Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and controversy go hand in hand! The latest news suggests that the actor is going to face the wrath of Income Tax Department, which has moved to the Bombay High Court claiming a huge amount of Rs 4 crore in a tax evasion case.
The IT department has challenged the order of the appellate body that forgave the actor from paying the amount. A bench headed by Justice V V Daga will hear the case in due course. The actor was charged by the Income Tax Department with an amount of Rs 4 crore for assessment year 2000-2001. During the same financial year, Salman declared his income to be Rs 9.32 crore. But, as per the findings of the I-T department, his income was found to be around Rs 13.61 crore. The actor was also informed about the reassessment.
Later, Salman challenged this estimation order before the Commissioner of Income Tax and the ruling came to his favour. Following this, the Income Tax department then filed a petition in the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) but it also dismissed the allegations, thus giving relief to Salman.
The Income Tax department has finally approached the High Court to set aside the ITAT order and demanded a stay on the implementation of the order. After hearing both sides, the court will give its final ruling.
