Deadline reports that actress Scarlett Johansson is in final talks to star in We Bought a Zoo.
We reported earlier this week that Scarlett Johansson was in contention for the role along with Amy Adams, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Rachel McAdams. Matt Damon has already signed onto star in the movie, which is based on the memoir by Benjamin Mee.
The plot will center on a family which buys an old, run-down zoo with their life savings and their journey to fix up the facility, which houses over 200 animals. Benjamin Mee's book recounts the challenges his family faced in turning this zoo around, while he's also taking care of his wife, who is dying from brain cancer.
Cameron Crowe will direct the movie from a script that he rewrote from Aline Brosh McKenna's initial adaptation. It wasn't clear when the movie would start production.
We Bought a Zoo comes to theaters December 23rd, 2011 and stars Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson. The film is directed by Cameron Crowe.
Will Redistricting Be a Bloodbath for Democrats? Republicans See Historic Victories; Gain Control of At Least 19 Democratic-Held State Legislatures. By HUMA KHAN Nov. 6, 2010
Republicans gained a historic edge over Democrats in state legislature elections that will have national implications for years to come. State legislatures in 44 states are responsible for one of the most important political processes: drawing district boundaries for the U.S. House of Representatives.
In a process that usually triggers partisan bickering, the reigning party usually has the upper hand, especially if the governor is also from the same party and cannot veto the legislature's decisions.
Republicans took control of at least 19 Democratic-controlled state legislatures Tuesday and gained more than 650 seats, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. The last time Republicans saw such victories was in 1994, when they captured control of 20 state legislatures.
Republicans haven't controlled as many state legislatures since 1928.
Across the country, the map for state legislatures has turned noticeably red as Republicans now control 55 chambers, with Democrats at 38 and the remaining yet to be decided. At the beginning of this week, Democrats controlled 60 of the country's state legislative chambers and Republicans 36.
Tuesday also was a historic day for many state legislatures. In Minnesota, Republicans won the Senate for the first time ever, while in Alabama, they took control for the first time since reconstruction.
The gains were truly of "historic proportions," said Tim Storey, a senior fellow at the National Conference of State Legislatures, pointing out that the last time there was such a wave of state legislature switches was 1966. "Everything moved in the direction of the GOP," Storey said. "I think Republicans are in the best position for redistricting they have been in since the modern redistricting era began in 1962. And they really have kind of a decided advantage now with the big wins."
The redistricting process that occurs once every decade when the Census is released usually tends to favor the party in power.
Redistricting is important because it not only determines the number of seats a state will get in the U.S. House of Representatives, it also creates boundaries for educational and public institutions.
When the process begins next year, it will mean a big boon for Republicans, who, in addition to state legislatures, also won key governorships.
GOP gubernatorial candidates won races where redistricting battles will be fought most heavily next year such as Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
All other signs also point to a victorious redistricting year for Republicans. In states like Florida, which is expected to gain two House seats, and Texas, which is projected to up its number by four, Republicans maintained their majorities.
Redistricting -- or "gerrymandering," as it's often called by critics because of a salamander-shaped district created by Massachusetts Gov. Elbridge Gerry in 1812 -- is a bitter political process with high stakes for both parties.
"You can win a number of seats just by controlling the boundary," said Darrell West, vice president and director of governance studies at The Brookings Institution.
In an effort to reform the system, California on Tuesday voted to pass a proposition that will test the power of independent commissions formed solely for the purpose of drawing district lines. Watch Results Video:

Here is interesting news. Kanye West, who has cast the Victoria’s secret model Selita Ebanks in his “Runaway” short film, wanted her to appear completely nude as a phoenix. The response to this request was a negative one by the Victoria’s secret model. The model, who started her modeling career real young, hails from George Town of Cayman Islands. Arrest warrants have been issued for Randy and Evi Quaid after the couple failed to show up at their Santa Barbara, Calif. court hearing this morning. The warrant for Evi is effectively immediately, but Randy's is being held until November 16 because he has another hearing to attend in Canada next week, according to Judge Donna Deck. Their failure to show up in court also means that the couple lost half the $1 million bond they posted to guarantee their appearance.
The Quaids were scheduled to be arraigned on felony vandalism charges stemming from a September incident that involved the couple allegedly trashing and squatting in a home they previously owned. Their attorney, Robert Sanger, said the couple didn't show up because Randy is scheduled to appear in a Canadian court for an immigration hearing. But the judge didn't think that was a good excuse for Evi, which is why her warrant was issued.
In response to the vandalism charges, Sanger said the signatures on the house's deed were forged and that the house does belong to the Quaids.
The prosecutor said the state is considering extraditing the couple, but hasn't made an official decision yet.
The couple is in Canada supposedly out of fear that they will be hunted down and killed by a group of people Randy calls "star whackers." The Quaids told ABC's "Good Morning America" in an exclusive interview that they believe this group is responsible for the deaths of actors Health Ledger and David Carradine. They also claim that the police who arrested them in October for living in the guest house of a home they previously owned are also trying to kill them.
Aside from the legal implications of their actions, some psychological experts say their behavior may indicate mental health issues as well. Specifically, they say, Randy and Evi Quaid's fears that someone is out to get them could be due to a rare psychiatric syndrome.
"To me, it really does sound like folie a deux syndrome," said Michelle Golland, a Hollywood-based clinical psychologist.
Folie a deux syndrome is characterized by delusional beliefs that are shared between two people who are closely related. It's also known as shared psychotic disorder. In some cases, the syndrome involves more than two people sharing delusions.
"It's probably one of the most under-diagnosed psychiatric disorders," said Dr. Harold Bursztajn, associate clinical professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
Bursztajn said it's a rare disorder, but is actually more common than people think.
"We see it a good deal in cults and also sometimes in Munchausen by proxy syndrome," he said.
Mental health experts, none of whom have any association with Randy or Evi Quaid, say there are a number of factors that contribute to folie a deux. Even though it's sometimes difficult to diagnose, it can be treated. If the Quaids do suffer from it, the experts say they need to get treatment.
Golland believes that Randy Quaid started on the path to paranoia around 2008, after he was banned for life from the Actors Equity Association, the professional stage actors union, for reportedly abusive and inappropriate behavior during rehearsals and performances of the play "Lone Star."
"Being removed from that group may have been the pivotal moment," said Golland. "It may have gotten much worse since then." She also believes the difficulty Quaid had finding work and the family estrangement that followed could have contributed to the syndrome's manifestation as well.
If these incidents led Quaid to feel a great deal of loss or caused his self-esteem to take a big hit, it may have indeed been a trigger for his delusions, experts said.
"If you have a choice between losing your sense of self or becoming delusional, it's easier to become delusional," said Bursztajn.

A 10-year-old girl has given birth in southern Spain and authorities are evaluating whether to let her and her family retain custody of the baby, an official said Tuesday. The baby was born last week in the city of Jerez de la Frontera, said Micaela Navarro, the Andalusia region's social affairs minister.
Navarro told reporters the father of the baby is also a minor, and both the mother and the baby were in good health. Her department declined to give details, including the sex of the baby, but said authorities do not consider this a case of rape and that no criminal investigation is under way.
Under Spanish law, having consensual sex with someone under age 13 is classified as child abuse, an official with the Spanish Justice Ministry in Madrid said. But this particular case is complicated by the fact that the father of the baby is also a minor and it is not clear if he could be charged, the official said.
Spanish newspapers said the mother is of Romanian origin.
The daily Diario de Jerez reported the girl was already pregnant when she arrived in Spain, but did not say when she came to this country. It is not clear if the father is in Spain.
Medical experts warn that because young girls are still growing, they are at higher risk during pregnancy. Studies have shown that teenage girls are more likely to give birth to premature babies and their infants have a higher chance of dying by age one.

She lives in Spain but is in fact Romanian. I'd say this would be pretty unusual for a spanish girl Girls used to be eligible for marriage and childbirth once they had their first period. Due to all the hormones in our food and water, girls are hitting puberty earlier; thus this doesn't really surprise me that much. London, (ANI): Eco-friendly actress Alicia Silverstone has inspired One Tree Hill star Sophia Bush to go vegan. Bush is having trouble to completely stop eating dairy and meat food stuff, but is committed to restrict her diet in order to reduce her carbon footprint.
And Silverstone's recipe book, 'The Kind Diet', has assured her that eating can be enjoyable even as a vegan. "I'm slowly trying to do the vegan thing, so I'm not really a vegan yet but I'm working on it," the Daily Express quoted Bush as saying.
"My family is Italian (and) my whole life has consisted of great meat and great cheese. I read Alicia Silverstone's book and I'm trying some of the recipes out," Bush added.

Despicable Me will cross $500 million at the worldwide box office, Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment announced today.
With a current domestic gross of more than $248 million, the inaugural 3D CGI feature from Universal and Illumination is second only to Toy Story 3 in domestic gross among animated films this year. Despicable Me is the sixth biggest domestic release of 2010 and the 10th most successful animated film of all time in domestic gross. In addition, it has become the sixth most successful film that Universal Pictures has ever distributed domestically.
Despicable Me's impressive success has continued as it has rolled out across the globe. The film, currently at more than $247 million overseas, has become Universal's top-grossing film internationally of 2010. In reaching the half-billion-dollar milestone, Despicable Me becomes not only the studio's biggest animated film of all time but is well on its way to becoming Universal's fifth highest-grossing film ever distributed worldwide. The 3-D CGI feature has yet to open in several territories, including China.

Albert Torres is writing the new screenplay for the Anime adaptation, which is a remake of the 1988 classic Akira. Here's a plot description for the remake from Production Weekly:

The Weinstein Company has acquired the rights to Timur Bekmambetov's latest project Apollo 18. According to Deadline, Trevor Caewood will direct the sci-fi thriller from a script written by Brian Miller, with Bekmambetov serving solely as a producer.
Apollo 18 is the latest movie to rely on found footage to tell its story. The plot will revolve around recently discovered video shot by the crew of an abandoned moon mission from the early 70s. NASA claims that the mission never took place, but this new discovery of "lost" footage reveals the existence of alien life and explains why NASA has hidden the evidence for all of these years. The Weinstein Company will be fully financing the project.
Timur Bekmambetov presented some film footage to The Weinstein Company that he claimed was really from the Apollo 18 moon mission, which helped get the project sold. Production is already well under way, with a proposed released date of March 4, 2011. Which is only five months away.

Oscar-nominated actress Jill Clayburgh passed away late Friday due to complications from chronic leukemia, which she had lived with for twenty-one years. Jill was known for portraying strong, independent women on screen, and helped push forward ideas of feminism in her starring roles throughout the 70s. She was sixty-six years old at the time of her death.
Jill began her career on Broadway, portraying many characters that had emerged from the new feminist era. She is best remembered for her starring role in Paul Mazursky's 1978 drama An Unmarried Woman, where she played Erica, a strong-willed New Yorker whose husband leaves her for another woman. She garnered a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her performance as Marilyn Holmberg in Alan J. Pakula's 1979 romantic dramedy Starting Over, which found her acting opposite Burt Reynolds as a teacher who embarks on an affair with a recently divorced man.
Starring in many popular film and television series throughout the 80s and 90s, Clayburgh had continued to pursue her career in acting up until her recent death, having even returned to Broadway in 2006, starring in a rival of Barefoot in the Park opposite Tony Roberts and Amanda Peet. She was last seen as a series regular on the short-lived ABC series Dirty Sexy Money. She will next be seen starring opposite Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal in this November's Love and Other Drugs. And she will also appear in the Kristen Wiig comedy Bridesmaids, due in theaters this May.
Jill is survived by her husband, playwright David Rabe, daughter, actress Lily Rabe, son Michael, stepson Jason, and a brother, James. An Unmarried Woman was released March 5th, 1978. Starting Over was released October 5th, 1979.
The actress, best known for portraying strong, independent women, succumbed to chronic leukemia in her home Friday night.

David Duchovny recently talked with TVmag (via Xfilesnews.com), and despite The X-Files: I Want to Believe tanking at the box office, the actor claims that a script for The X-Files 3 is currently being written. The sequel is coming, though the production is awaiting a green light from 20th Century Fox, who is a little hesitant about moving forward on the project due to the underperformance of the last installment.
Here is what David Duchovny had to say (as translated into English):
"It is in the process of being written. One awaits just the green light from Fox, who are a little disappointed from the relatively poor reception of the second film. (The film grossed $20.8 million.) The error comes, in my opinion, from the authors straying too far from the roots of the series. Moreover, the film was released in the summer. The third will be much closer to what the public expects, with government conspiracies, etc."
There is no official word from 20th Century Fox on this news, but we will keep you updated as more information on The X-Files 3 is revealed.

Tollywood's most eligible bachelor, Allu Arjun is finally turning 'Varudu'! Yes, the actor is set to marry a Hyderabadi girl named Sneha Reddy. The success of Rakta Charitra – 1 (RC) has postponed the release of its sequel by a week. Ram Gopal Varma, who unveiled the background audio of second part of the film, announced the newly scheduled date yesterday (November 2).
The Telugu and Tamil versions of Rakta Charitra 2 will hit the screens on November 26 but the Hindi version will be released on December 3. Sources say that the distributors asked the director to postpone the movie, as RC- 1 is running full houses in the theatres.

Actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi has said that his comeback to cinema will not affect his political career. In an interview, the megastar confessed that he is drafting a plan to balance both acting and politics.

As Shahrukh Khan was getting ready to celebrate his 45th birthday in Berlin, the Mumbai Police went on a frenzy. Apparently, an anonymous source informed the Mumbai Police that the famous don, Chhota Shakeel, had planned to attack one of the guests at King Khan’s home. As soon as the report came in, Shahrukh’s palatial bungalow (at Mannat) turned into a fortress of sorts.
The Mumbai Police cordoned off the entire area and searched every vehicle that passed by. According to the caller, the don had planned to assassinate Gutka Baron Joshi at Mannat. Fearing the security of the guests, the police started examining every bouquet and gifts that came in for Shahrukh’s birthday.
The caller had mentioned that sharpshooters from the Chhota Shakeel gang were on their way to kill Joshi. So, the police immediately raised red alert. They later found out that the person in question was Mr. Sachin Joshi, the son of Goa Gutka manufacturer J M Joshi, who is facing a CBI probe for helping Dawood Ibrahim set up a Gutka manufacturing plant in Pakistan. Sachin was scheduled to come to Mannat to discuss a business deal with Shahrukh’s associates.
According to reports, Sachin had earlier come to Shahrukh with a business proposal and was supposed to drop by to meet the actor’s consultants. The Police said that some of the biggest names in the film industry were present at Mannat, so, they immediately raised high alert. However, Sachin himself was unaware of the threat to his life until the police called him.
The good news is that the threats were found to be baseless.

Looking back, every time a film is up for release, there is usually some claim being staked in the court of law hindering the release of the film. Well, it's the same with the upcoming Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Bachchan starrer Action Replayy.
The film, which is produced by Vipul Shah, has a case that has been filed against it in the Bombay High Court for non payment of dues. The litigation has been filed by Dubai based entertainment company Eros Worldwide. In the complaint, Eros claims approximately Rs. 6.56 crore that is still to be repaid by the producers.
Eros Worldwide had filed a suit yesterday, through their legal firm Manilal Kher Ambalal and Co. The petition that was filed stated that the defendant (Vipul Shah) be restrained from exhibiting, causing to exhibit, releasing, communicating to the public in any manner, exploiting, delivering the prints to any third party or in any other manner exploiting or suffering the exploitation of the film Action Replayy which is scheduled to be released in first week of November.
The High Court vacation judge, Justice JH Bhatia, has kept the matter for hearing on November 4, and has further stated that the involved parties should try and reach a settlement out of court before the appointed date mutually.

Says Katrina, "All I can say about my role is this girl is quite a number, the closest I came to playing something so challenging was in Namastey London and that was a cakewalk compared with this. The girl in Ali's film is something else. I have to go completely outside myself to play her. Whom am I observing to play the role? I am not telling."
