Star Plus’ delicious reality show ‘MasterChef India’ always has some surprise in store for its viewers and contestants. However, this week the contestants will get the biggest surprise that will wet their eyes. Among the top 12 Master Chef contestants, the show is now left with only seven contestants and they will face the greatest challenges ahead. So, before facing the high pressure, the judges thought to give them a relief from the challenge and provide some emotional support to strengthen their morals.

Akshay Kumar along with the other two judges Kunal Kapoor and Ajay Chopra will bring their families on the sets so that they can spend some time with them before starting for the next challenge. They have been away from their family members for months to participate on the show thus this will boost up their confidence for the next challenge.

Zebi breaks down into tears seeing her husband after so many days. Pankaj, who has been a teacher by profession and is supposed to be a very strong person, also could not control her emotions meeting her son and husband. Joe’s family is in the United States so he did not expect to see them but he was taken aback when he saw them standing behind him. He was in tears while hugging his little daughter. Mrs Kandla was also touched to see her husband on the show.

However, the surprise does not end here because the contestants will now prepare dishes for their families and the families will decide the best dish. The families will not be informed which dishes are prepared by whom so they also need to identify the dish prepared by their family member.

It will be interesting to see if the families can identify the dish prepared by their loved one or they end up rejecting the dish prepared by their family member itself!

After Aishwarya Bachchan, it's Abhishek Bachchan, who has stayed away from 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' (KBC), hosted by his father Amitabh Bachchan. This week, the director Ashutosh Gowariker and his leading lady Deepika Padukone of Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey recorded an episode of 'KBC'. Abhishek opted out, although this is a crucial release for him.

Apparently, there was much behind-the-scenes maneuvering to convince Abhishek to occupy the hot seat in front of his iconic dad-host. Abhishek refused to budge. Says a source, "Both the channel personnel and the crew of Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey felt getting Abhishek and his dad on the same platform would be great publicity for Abhishek's film. Abhishek wouldn't relent. They finally went on the show without him."

In fact, the channel's plans to bring the entire Bachchan parivar for the grand finale on December 9 has also fallen through. According to sources, the Big B thwarted the plans of getting his family on the show by throwing the rule-book at the channel. They finally had to make the finale a Sholay special featuring the Big B with Dharmendra.

Says Sony Entertainment's CEO Ajit Thakur, "We were indeed in advanced talks with the Bachchan family to come on the show. However, it finally didn't work out. Even Abhishek is missing in the episode featuring his colleagues for the promotion of their film."

Argues Big B, "As per the rules and regulations of the company that owns the original rights of 'KBC', relatives of the anchor are not permitted to participate in the show. There's a signed contract in this regard." However, the channel's personnel argue that the contract rules don't apply to special episodes of 'KBC'.

Says the source, "We were very keen to have the family on the show. But the Bachchans don't want anyone to say they're using the show to promote their family."

According to reports from the sets of ‘Lapataganj’, all his co-stars had arranged for a party to applaud the senior actor on his achievement. The most promising friendship on 'Bigg Boss 4' between actors Ashmit Patel and Sara Khan has tentatively come to an end. Interestingly, the reason behind the rift is Pakistani actress Veena Malik. Ashmit who claimed Sara to be like her younger sister had a tiff with her after discovering that Sara had voted out Veena in last week's elimination round.

Dolly Bindra, who entered the house this week as a wild card entrant reveled the nomination news to Veena and Ashmit. On which, Ashmit had one-on-one talk with Sara and ended up fighting with her. However, Sara tried her best to explain him the reason, but Ashmit accused her of practicing pretense friendship. He said that this act of Sara was a breach of trust and has ended up the friendship between them.

Well, it looks like Veena Malik has come in-between Sara and Ashmit's friendship. Ashmit's insecurity in losing Veena forced him to act strongly with Sara. Nominating the inmates for the elimination round every week was a right given to all the 'Bigg Boss' housemates. Sara thus had merely accessed her voting rights.

Well!!! looks like love has once again come in between friendship. Keep looking out for this space to get more updates on 'Bigg Boss 4' on Colors.

Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor might not have dreamt in her wildest dream that her comments on her friend Ranbir Kapoor would become a big issue. But the unexpected happened. She earned the wrath of the actor and his dad.

The news is doing the rounds that Ranbir and his dad Rishi Kapoor are not happy with Sonam for commenting on Karan Johar's Koffee With Karan that Ranbir needed a stylist besides rating him the lowest when asked to rate the sexiest from five actors. This has upset Sonam, because she said it all in good humour and as a friend.

It may be recalled that Deepika also took a dig at Ranbir by saying that she wished to gift him a pack of condom.

Phas Gaye Re Obama Review – Little gem

What's the recipe for a winning motion picture? A gigantic financial plan? Striking locales? A mammoth star cast? Strictly going by the number of low cost films that found tremendous appreciation, it reiterates and restates the fact that content always reigns supreme. 'Small' films like Love Sex Aur Dhokha, Tere Bin Laden, Udaan, Peepli Live, Khichdi and Do Dooni Chaar have had a lot to say when compared to several mammoth ventures, which drove on star power while content took a complete backseat.

Subhash Kapoor's Phas Gaye Re Obama banks on a taut screenplay and not a showy star cast to deliver the goods. Choosing an interesting plot is one thing and doing justice to it is another. But the assorted characters, the sequence of events in the narrative and the bunch of talented actors do the trick. At the same time, though the film has the right running time, it could've done with some sharper editing at places.

Final word? Phas Gaye Re Obama may not boast of stars to entice the viewers in hordes. It may not have a colossal canvas [on the contrary, the making is very basic]. It may not have a wonderful musical score to act as a hook [there are hardly any songs here]. But Phas Gaye Re Obama succeeds, and succeeds largely, in its endeavour: Make the viewer laugh at the right places. A small little gem that deserves a watch.

Phas Gaye Re Obama traces the journey of Om [Rajat Kapoor], an American citizen of Indian origin, who loses all his wealth overnight to the global recession and is asked to vacate his home by the bank, unless he pays up $ 100,000 [the mortgaged amount] within 30 days.

Seeing no other option, Om comes to India to sell a small piece of an ancestral property. But within days of landing in India, he is kidnapped by a 'recession-hit' underworld gang [Sanjay Mishra, Manu Rishi, Amit Sial], who think that he is still a millionaire. How do the gangsters cope with their catch forms the rest of the story.

Phas Gaye Re Obama showcases how global recession/meltdown impacted lives, affecting not just an America-based businessman, but also an underworld don in the dusty plains of small-town India. A spanklingly new idea indeed. And the assorted characters, right from Sanjay Mishra to Manu Rishi to Neha Dhupia to Amole Gupte, only make the goings-on spicy.

Handled deftly by Subhash Kapoor, an extremely talented director, the film has several sequences that stay in your memory much after the film has concluded. I'd like to single out the sequence when Manu Rishi meets Rajat Kapoor for the first time. The sequence involving the English class teacher also stays with you. The climax is smart and I really liked the way Subhash Kapoor concluded the story.

Phas Gaye Re Obama is an engaging film because of its largely original writing. Also, director Subhash Kapoor allows the actors enough room to interpret their characters well. Rajat Kapoor as the suave NRI is natural, Neha Dhupia as Lady Gabbar is convincing, Sanjay Mishra as the broke gangster is incredible, Manu Rishi as the helpless sidekick of the gangster is wonderful and Amole Gupte as the gangster/politician gets his timing spot-on. Although each actor pitches in a commendable performance, I'd like to single out Sanjay Mishra and Manu Rishi for making every sequence they feature in, tremendous.

On the whole, Phas Gaye Re Obama banks on an interesting premise rather than a galaxy of stars to deliver what it promises. Few film-makers stick their necks out to tell tricky and complex stories in these days of mindless entertainers making loads of money at the ticket window. For their intentions alone, the makers of Phas Gaye Re Obama merit that support. Here's a request to all cine lovers and also multiplexes, from this writer. Give this one a chance. Let's nurture and support it well, so that genuine and honest efforts like Phas Gaye Re Obama don't go unnoticed.

Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey Review And Trailer

Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey Review: Enlightening experience
By: Taran Adarsh, Bollywood Hungama
Thursday, December 2, 2010, 16:57 [IST]

Adapting a work of literature into a movie is an arduous task. Satyajit Ray's 'Apu Trilogy' (Pather Panchali, Aparajito and Apur Sansar) was based on two Bengali novels written by Bibhuthibhushan Bandopadhyay. Ray's Shatranj Ke Khiladi was based on Munshi Premchand's short story of the same name. In fact, film-makers have always been fascinated by best-selling books/novels for adapting into feature films. Mira Nair's The Nameshake, P.C. Barua, Bimal Roy and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas, Pradeep Sarkar's Parineeta, Rajkumar Hirani's 3 Idiots, Atul Agnihotri's Hello and the recent Aisha have been adapted from literary works. Even in Hollywood, Lord Of The Rings, Harry Potter, Narnia and many more have been successfully adapted from novels by reputed names.

However, if you analyze the past, you will realize that not all movies adapted from novels/short stories have set the cash registers jingling at the box-office. Films like Pinjar, Paheli, Raincoat and international experiments like Bride And Prejudice and The Mistress Of Spices have found very few takers in the past.

This is not the first time Ashutosh Gowariker has adapted a book into a film. Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey is yet another book-to-movie adaptation by this talented storyteller [this one is based on the book 'Do And Die: The Chittagong Uprising 1930-34' by Manini Chatterjee]. Again, this is not the first time Ashutosh Gowariker has revisited the bygone era. He did it successfully in Lagaan [period], then Jodhaa Akbar [historical] and now Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey [period].

Recreating the bygone era is indeed demanding, laborious and strenuous. It's a challenge to present the era convincingly. Besides extensive detailing to lend authenticity, the director carries the responsibility of making the characters come alive to the present-day generation. Gowariker has successfully done that in the past and does it successfully yet again in Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey.

Once the film-maker takes on the task of depicting a chapter from history, it's imperative that he/she remains factual to the depiction of the revolution, giving an accurate account of what actually transpired in that period. But details alone won't help, it needs to be well dramatized for the big screen. There's a vast difference in the style novels are written, but one needs to take extra care to make it film friendly. While I may not be able to comment on whether Gowariker has been faithful to the book or tampered with it or implemented some changes, which may be necessary to suit the tastes of the present-day spectators and make it more palatable, I would definitely like to say that what comes across on screen is very absorbing, truly informative and exceptionally inspiring.

Final word? The expectations from Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey are minimal, but you can't overlook the fact that it's a genuinely honest effort that needs to be encouraged and appreciated. I would like to add here that the promotional posters/billboards/promos don't create any impact whatsoever. Wish the makers would've looked into this very important aspect as well!

1930, British India: In the province of undivided Bengal lies the sleepy, peaceful port of Chittagong. In this unassuming little town, a revolution is about to begin; a revolution which will forever wake all of Chittagong and inspire the entire nation.

April 18. 1 night. 5 simultaneous attacks. A band of 64 - 56 innocent yet fearless young boys, 5 defiant revolutionaries, 2 determined young women, and an idealistic leader [Surjya Sen], a school teacher by profession.

This group of 64 represents a little-known chapter in history; a forgotten night that reigned terror on the British through a series of calculated attacks. This is a true story of these forgotten heroes and the narrative takes us through every step of the action from the initial trepidation, to the thrill of the attack, to the underground movement, daring escapes and tragic captures, and most importantly, their undying legacy.

A film-maker of extensive aptitude and sensitivity, Gowariker's tryst with period films continues. Seems like he has worked himself to the grind in order to attain perfection. The writing [screenplay: Raoul V. Randolf and Ashutosh Gowariker] and execution of the material are so credible that it influences you to wonder if the writers and director were part of the revolution. The Bengali ethos and the behavioral patterns of the characters, recreating the etiquette and body language of people who lived in a different era along with their attire and styling and also their dwellings come across as very pragmatic. In fact, Gowariker has left no stone unturned to make a film that does justice to the event.

Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey has almost entirely been shot in Goa and not Chittagong [now Bangladesh] because the location that was there in the 1930s no longer exists in that shape, I understand. However, the film captures the spirit and intensity to perfection. On the other hand, with Gowariker's films, the length/running time of the film is always a topic of discussion and that's a problem with Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey as well. The film has a running time of approx. 2.48 hours and the editor [Dilip Deo] and director could've easily trimmed a few fight sequences in the second half, to make the goings-on crisper.

Musically, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey is embellished with soft and soothing compositions, but I have an issue with that. Sure, the album is high on patriotic sentiment, but the songs in the first hour act as a roadblock in the narrative. Ideally, it should've been a songless film. However, the background score [also by Sohail Sen] enhances every scene, making it more impactful. The production design [Nitin Chandrakant Desai] transports you to that era. It's that authentic. The stunts [Ravi Dewan] are true to life. Kiran Deohans and Seetha Sandhiri's cinematography captures the era to perfection.

Abhishek as Surjya Sen suits the character right. His character appears very fervent, but at the same time truly tranquil, incredibly unperturbed and really unruffled, which merges very well with the character of an educationalist that he illustrates. A freedom fighter with these attributes hasn't been presented in a motion picture before. Abhishek gets to the character a certain authority. The rebelliousness and boisterousness are depicted to perfection.

Deepika sheds her glam look and looks every bit the character she illustrates. Kudos to her first of all for accepting a challenging role [of a woman revolutionary of the 1930s] so early in her career and then almost living that character in the film, continuing to prove her mettle far ahead of her poise and exquisiteness.

Sikander Kher leaves a terrific impression. He excels in several scenes. Vishakha Singh is a complete natural. She catches one's attention instantly. Samrat Mukerji, Maninder and Feroz Wahid Khan, each actor is earnest and sincere to the core. In fact, every actor in the film looks most convincing in their respective parts. I would like to make a special mention of the young artists [most of them seem like first-time performers], who have a very unpolluted/uninfluenced approach to acting. Brownie points to each one of them.

On the whole, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, based on the Chittagong rebellion, is an enlightening experience of a poignant, but little-known chapter in history. It's a film of immense significance which evokes a colossal patriotic fervor. A motion picture like Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey isn't created targeting the box-office solely. It's also made for the gratification of the senses. And that it does in sufficient measure. In an industry obsessed by opening weekend business and box-office records, this is one of those rare films that doesn't compromise on its gracious objectives for the sake of becoming more box-office friendly. At the same time, a film like Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, although very well made, may not appeal to those who relish the customary kitsch and masala. Therefore, the film will have to rely on a very strong word of mouth to create any kind of an impression or impact at the box-office.

Sydney (ANI): ‘Unfaithful’ star Rihanna has said that women who criticize her for being sexy are 'unhappy with themselves' and are ‘hypocrites’. The pop beauty - who is famous for her flesh-flashing stage outfits and revealing fashion choices - is proud of her body.

“People think I'm overly sexy. It bothers them for some reason. Girls don't like to see other girls dressed sexy. It's a little intimidating; I don't mean that in a cocky way. There’s always going to be somebody not liking what you do. People have a lot of crazy opinions on things. Things I say, things I wear, places I go. It's just stupid,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted her as telling the UK edition of GQ magazine.

“People are hypocrites. They can’t wait to say something horrible. Most of them are unhappy with themselves. It’s women who are mad at other women. They should take a look at their own lives. A lot of people don’t have the guts to confront themselves,” she ranted.

Although her online critics make her angry, Rihanna can accept that her overtly sexual image could annoy people but the bold girl is determined not to change her behavior or style just to please anyone else.

The ‘Umbrella’ hitmaker also revealed that she would be happy to have a boy or a girl.

The ‘Umbrella’ hitmaker also revealed that she would be happy to have a boy or a girl. “I know God will probably want me to have a daughter just so I could see what I put my mother through. But on the other hand, I really love little boys. So it would just be fly either way,” she added.

Melbourne (ANI): Britney Spears is set to take legal action over reports that her boyfriend had viciously beaten her, according to the star’s management. Star magazine first claimed that the troubled pop star had been abused by Jason Trawick, alleging he had given the singer a black eye and that he had cheated on her with a teenager.

Now Radar Online has posted phone recordings where a woman - reportedly Spears - claims that Trawick had “beat on me.” The conversation is purportedly with Jason Alexander, the man whose quickie marriage to Spears in 2004 lasted just 55 hours, reports

It was Alexander who told Star magazine the chart topper had confessed about being assaulted in a phone conversation between the pair. Reports in America allege the singer made a heart-tugging appeal to Jason Alexander after confessing her life had turned into “a nightmare” because of constant beatings and abuse.

In a taped conversation with Jason, Britney today, claimed Jason Trawick had beaten her many times and once she had suffered a black eye. On the tape released onto the internet by a magazine, Jason, is allegedly heard talking to a woman, claimed to be Britney. At one point he asks her: “How’s your problems with your fiancé?” “Britney” answers: “That [bleep] is not my fiancé.”

However, a spokesman for both Britney and Trawick denied the story last night.

London (ANI): Jennifer Lopez has launched a legal battle to prevent the release of sex videos taped by ex-husband showing her 'flashing'. The singer has taken Ojai Noa and his agent Ed Meyer to court to stop their reported attempt to sell and market videos made during the couple's 11-month marriage in 1997.

In the videos, she is seen flashing her private parts and displaying other 'deviant behavior', according to documents filed in the singer's legal fight to keep the tapes secret. “This is among other nudity on her part in the now 21 hours of home movies that we have so far recovered,” the Daily Mail quoted Meyer as saying in the papers.

Ojani is continually finding more and more home videos with Lopez that he didn't remember he had, Meyer added. Although the tapes do not contain full sex scenes they could be of great embarrassment to the star who is married to Mark Anthony and has two-year-old twins Max and Emme.

“However, Noa & Meyer have never ever intended to market this and the many other racy, damaging & expositive scenes from the Home Videos,” the court filing said. “It must also be stated that in Noa''s Home Videos, Lopez gives her full consent to Noa taping her,” the documents added.

But Lopez is not agreeing to these tapes being made public saying they are private and personal, claiming that Noa and filmmaker Meyer are violating an injunction which blocks the release of the videos.

London (ANI): Former glamour model Katie Price has been handed a six month driving ban after she was spotted speeding at 83mph in her Land Rover. Price, formerly known as Jordan, was fined 1,000 pounds and given three penalty points after she admitted breaking a 70mph limit on the A23 in Pyecombe, West Sussex, on December 10 last year.

This took her over the 12-point limit and brought an automatic six-month driving ban, which will leave her family life in chaos. Crawley Magistrates' Court, Deputy District Judge Ken Goldspring read her the penalty. “That makes her a ‘totter’. She’s received 12 or more points and so as of today she is banned from driving for six months,” the Daily Mail quoted the judge as saying.

It means the mother-of-three, who lives in Woldingham, Surrey, will not be allowed to drive her children Harvey, eight, Junior, five, and Princess, three, to school. Defending 32-year-old Katie, lawyer Robin Sellers said she had been trying to escape paparazzi photographers when she was caught on a mobile speed camera in a police car.

However, Judge Goldspring said that she has a history of over speeding and “The paparazzi weren’t prosecuted for speeding. That’s the real story.” A statement produced by Sellers on behalf of Price read, “Katie accepts that whilst attempting to distance herself from paparazzi who were pursuing her (and about whose actions she had just notified the police) she was guilty of speeding.

London (ANI): Supermodel Christie Brinkley has shared her workout and fitness secrets with Shape magazine and she's also giving her advice on how anyone can look their best and stay fit with the same techniques. She says that when it comes to working-out she finds variety is the key and that it's important to her to not get bored.

“I like to mix it up. I get bored if I do the same thing,” the Daily Mail quoted her as saying. “The only constant that I have in my life is that I start whatever I do with my Total Gym, because I believe it helps keep me from getting injured.” She added: “Think variety is the spice of sticking with an exercise routine, whether it's getting a dance tape one day, or getting a tape with those stretchy things for building resistance on a different day.

“Arm yourself with a few different things. Ask your friends to go jogging or on a long walk. Sign up for a dance class, she said. Brinkley also loves to combine her love of the outdoors, and especially water, with her work-out. “Some of the things I like to do include kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, sometimes surfing, sometimes rafting, running on the beach, and walking down the beach waving my arms—I call it swimming down the beach. Kind of silly looking, but I don't care,” she said.

Busy working mother Brinkley says she optimises every opportunity she can, even squeezing in some moves whilst cheering on her children's sports games from the sidelines. “Parents were teasing me at the games last week. I was on the sidelines using a bench to do arm presses and then using it like a step board to step up and down, the model said.

And she even combines her workouts with her everyday chores like cleaning her teeth, or styling her hair. “I thought, "OK, I'm going to multi task." I'll dry my hair as though I'm sitting on a chair, even though there's no chair there,” she said.

“Then I'll do some squats, I'm always careful that my knee doesn't extend beyond my foot so I don't put stress on my knees, but you can do so much for your upper legs while you're drying your hair. When I am brushing my teeth, I'm bending my leg behind me, or I'm lifting my leg up and holding it in that position so I'm squeezing my butt in.”

“I can do that while I'm washing or slicing vegetables, too. Or I go up and down on my toes, working my calves a little bit. I also try to get in 100 push-ups every day. It's really easy. I keep a rolled up yoga mat under my bed. I throw it down and I'll do 30 push-ups before I get in the shower,” she added.

Melbourne (ANI): Miranda Kerr has created history by appearing as the first pregnant model on the cover of Vogue Australia. The Australian supermodel proudly stands side-on holding her large pregnant belly for the fashion bible's January cover. The pictures were taken when Kerr was 6 1/2 months pregnant and show the Victoria's Secret lingerie darling wearing a collection of designer frocks including a sheer white Alex Perry dress.

In another shot she appears completely nude, holding one hand under her belly and another across her breasts. "It's been a great experience modeling while pregnant because I'm really proud of my belly and I'm really happy about this moment in my life," the Herald Sun quoted her as telling Sky News.

Kerr tells Vogue she found the first three months of her pregnancy 'challenging' as she dealt with morning sickness while working. She also admits to having food cravings, although not of the junk food variety. "I normally don't eat tomatoes or oranges, however since being pregnant I've been craving them a lot," she said.

Kerr also tells the magazine she was 'flattered' when asked to walk the runway for Balenciaga in Paris five months into her pregnancy. "I agreed based on the fact that I was well enough in myself to do it... (I) was flattered he wanted me to be in the show, belly and all," she says.

Kerr married Hollywood actor Orlando Bloom in a shotgun wedding in July and is due to give birth to their first child in January. Demi Moore was the first pregnant celebrity cover girl when she famously posed nude for Vanity Fair in 1991.

Melbourne (ANI): Singer Keith Urban admitted to Oprah Winfrey that wife Nicole Kidman was the driving force behind getting rid of his alcohol and cocaine addictions.

The two opened up about their marriage and Urban's drug addiction on the Oprah Winfrey Show in the US. Urban, who will appear with Kidman when Oprah hosts her show at the Sydney Opera House, said he never would have kicked his alcohol and cocaine addictions without his wife.

“She really should have walked. I'm just glad she didn't. She made a decision to initiate, ultimately, this intervention and the love that was in that room at that moment was just right,” the Daily Telegraph quoted him as saying.

London, (ANI): Lingerie model Danielle Bux gave guests at her hubby Gary Lineker’s 50th birthday bash a lot to look at, when she arrived wearing a bust-flashing frock.

The party was held at hit London’s Funky Buddha nightclub, where the 31-year-old Welsh model was seen strutting her assets, the Sun reported. Even the cold weather conditions did not seem to faze her out as she posed for several photos in the low-cut gown and high heels.

She was seen emerging bleary-eyed from the club in the early morning hours and joining Gary in the backseat of a waiting car.
