Jthe teaser trailer for your viewing pleasure. There’s a very short subliminal of Francis at the very end of the clip fyi.ust wanted to fire off a fast post about the appearance of a new, very brief teaser trailer (see below) for the upcoming Francis Ng wuxia pic Chasing Shadows. Looks like the movie will be full of the old-school 1990s style wire-fu & special effects that I cut my teeth on back in the day.
The very first Hong Kong movie that I saw long ago at the Roxie Theater in San Francisco was A Chinese Ghost Story, with its amazing action choreography by the great Ching Siu-Tung. His trademark style includes lots of beautiful night photography, swirling fog, gravity-defying synchronized stunt performers, flowing robes, and flying people bounding over rooftops and through forests. He’s the action director for classics including Swordsman 2, New Dragon Inn, and House of Flying Daggers, among many more.
Chasing Shadows, in which Francis Ng not only stars but codirects, with Marco Mak, looks like a throwback to those glorious movies. According to news sources,
“As a form of tribute to past wuxia films, not only does the film contain various well-worn wuxia elements, but it also has the protagonist, his nemesis, and the four exponents named directly, onomatopoeically, metaphorically, in part or combination after the famed wuxia directors: Chang Cheh, Li Han Hsiang, Tsui Hark, Chor Yuen, Sammo Hung, Liu Chia Liang, Tong Gai and King Hu, possibly with some of them doing cameos.”
The movie also stars Jackie Chan’s son Jaycee Chan and Pace Wu. Ching Siu-Tung’s protege, Ma Yuk Sing, is the action choreographer for Chasing Shadows and Ching’s influence is pretty clear in the trailer.
The lady in red, Tracing Shadow ??, 2009
Needless to say, my anticipation meter is off the charts with this one.
UPDATE: According to Twitch, as of late March the film’s title has been altered to “Tracing Shadow ??,” which I’m not sure I like more than the original. “Chasing” seems a bit more active and dynamic than “tracing,” but I’m not the marketing expert so who am I to say? Looking forward to it at any rate & hoping it rocks.

Vengeance (Chinese: ??) is a 2009 neo-noir crime filmdirected by Johnnie screenplay written by Wai Ka-FaiA co-production between Hong Kong and France, Vengeance features an international ensemble cast that includes Johnny Hallyday, Sylvie Testud, Simon Yam, Anthony Wong, Lam Suet, Lam Ka-Tung, Maggie Siu, and Cheung Siu-Fai. The film was co-produced by ARP Sélection in France, along with Hong Kong production companies Media Asia Films, and Milkyway Image.
Vengeance tells the story of François Costello, a French assassin-turned-chef whose daughter, stepson and grandchildren are murdered by a gang of Triads. Costello heads to Hong Kong to embark on a violent quest for revenge, enlisting the aid of three hitmen. The film features To's trademark use of stylized violence, along with elements of both film noir, and heroic bloodshed, a sub-genre of Hong Kong action cinema.
The idea of Johnnie To directing an English-language film originated with the ARP co-founders and French producers Michèle and Laurent Pétin, who had Alain Delon in mind for the lead role. In 2006, after the Pétins approached him with their idea, To met with Delon, who was not interested in making the film. The Pétins later recommended Johnny Hallyday, and Hallyday was cast in the lead role after meeting with the director in early 2008. Principal photography for Vengeance began in November 2008, and concluded in February 2009; filming took place in Hong Kong and Macau, with a crew mainly based in Hong Kong. Vengeance competed for the prestigious Palme D'Or award at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival, and was released theatrically in France on 20 May 2009, following its positive critical reaction at Cannes. The film will be released theatrically in Hong Kong on 20 August 2009, and will have a North American premiere at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival.

The second installment in a series of spin-off films based on Johnnie To's award-winning 2003 police noir PTU, Tactical Unit - No Way Out continues to delve into the gray world of the uniformed officers who patrol the streets of Hong Kong. Produced by Johnnie To and directed by Lawrence Lau (My Name is Fame), this gritty police drama details the dangers and desperation faced by those on both sides of the law as night falls and cops and triad cross paths in the same sleepless streets. Franchise stars Simon Yam and Maggie Siu headline the film, along with usual suspects Lam Suet, Derek Tsang, Samuel Pang, and Otto Wong and Osman Hung of EO2.
When a late-night triad dispute leads to the death of an innocent man, the police make a swift crackdown on all triad activities in the area, forcing smallNo Way Out 2009,movie No Way Out , watch No Way Out , No Way Out movie watch, online No Way Out watch, online watch No Way Out , movie free No Way Out watch, free No Way Out watch movie, chinese No Way Out film, chinese No Way Out 2009 movie, Chinese No Way Out 2009 watch, review No Way Out film, overview movie No Way Out , download No Way Out ,free download No Way Out-time gangster Fai into a corner.
