The tragic story of French naïve painter Séraphine Louis aka Séraphine de Senlis (1864-1942), a humble servant who becomes a gifted self-taught painter. Discovered by prominent critic and collector William Uhde, she came to prominence between the wars grouped with other naïve painters like Henri Rouseau only to descend into madness and obscurity with the onset of the Great Depression and World War II.
"Seraphine" explores the relationship between the painter and an art collector. To make ends meet, Seraphine works as a maid for Madame Duphot, who rents an apartment to Wilhelm Uhde, a German art critic with an interest in modern and primitive arts.

The Sniper
With budgets scaling back and the independent and social realist mini-industries gaining currency with their subject matter, the nonsense of films like "The Killer" has fallen by the wayside. "The Sniper," though, is a return to the roots that put Hong Kong's contemporary films on the map.
It must be said that there is a salacious element to "The Sniper" that will help it with local boxoffice. Co-star Edison Chen last year was embroiled in a sex-photo scandal (tame by standards anywhere but Asia) and was promptly driven from Hong Kong. His notoriety -- and absence from screens -- will generate buzz in Asia, but the film will probably remain a regional curiosity as far as theatrical release goes. Genre festival interest isn't out of the question.

A panda cub is separated from his mother and eventually rescued by a young orphaned boy. As the boy struggles to protect the cub from people he believes would hurt it, the two form a strong bond even as the boy realizes that the best thing he can ever do for the cub is to help him find its way home.
This was a great article from CRIEnglish that talks about the films conception to what they hope the film will achieve for the rebuilding of Wolong Reserve. It covers pretty much everything except for how much the film took in its box office, and that I didn’t find in any articles yet. However, with its target audience, general goodwill towards pandas, and Disney working behind the scenes for distribution, it shouldn’t be so hard to earn back production costs.

About the one of the most controversial illnesses in America today: Lyme disease. Most people think of Lyme disease as that thing you can catch from a tick bite, but few know the true graveness of one of the most dangerous epidemics currently afflicting people across the nation. Here, we examine not just the science of the bacteria that causes Lyme disease and the politics of the controversy but also the personal stories of those whose lives have been affected and nearly destroyed.
Well-researched investigative docu "Under Our Skin" examines schisms surrounding the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease, a near-epidemic in the U.S. Like Michael Moore's "Sicko," it reveals a controversial connection between conventional protocols, private patents, managed care and insurance companies that restrict consumer choice with huge consequences for patient care. Producer-director-writer Andy Abrahams Wilson ("Bubbeh Lee and Me") takes a creative, humanistic approach that makes the complex material dramatic and visually interesting. A natural for domestic cable, informative pic should have a long shelf life.

Denied the tools of a Hollywood dream machine to naturalize the good life, indie film is forced to justify class privilege. Where Wes Anderson invites his audience to share in the absurdity of inherited wealth and Whit Stillman aestheticizes boundless yuppiedom, Rogers agonizes over his upper-crust circumstances.
Rogers shot compulsively around his parents' house in the affluent town of Wainscott in the Hamptons, home of the eponymous windmill which his mother (who was given to throwing out dark hints about inherited madness) apparently believed to be the literal incarnation of her own father.
Shown posing for her son's camera lounging in a lawn chair and sipping a drink while dressed in a mink coat in July -- and later clinging to the framelines, shrunken by cancer -- her ghost hovers over the well-appointed enclave which Rogers associates with summers filled with attractive bathing suit-clad women and dipsomania.
Meanwhile, in the movie-mad Hamptons community, Rogers, armed with his unfinished movie, began to acquire the legendary proportions of a home-grown Orson Welles carting around an uncompleted "The Other Side of the Wind."
Olch includes copious footage of Rogers rationalizing his duplicitous parallel affairs with two women who lived around the corner from each other, one being his lifelong partner and last-minute wife, shutterbug extraordinaire Susan Meiselas (who produced the film).
Detailed minutiae of the physical changes that befall Rogers, from the accidental and mildly heroic loss of three toes to the creeping melanoma that eventually killed him, find equal pride of place.
