Movie Plot Summary:
Today's Special is a heartwarming comedy with a culinary flavor, inspired by Aasif Mandvi’s Obie Award winning play “Sakina’s Restaurant.” Samir (Aasif Mandvi, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Last Airbender) is a sous chef who dreams of becoming the head chef at an upscale Manhattan restaurant. When he is passed over for a promotion he impulsively quits and lets his co-worker Carrie (Jess Weixler, Teeth) know that he intends to go to Paris and apprentice under a master French chef. Dreams must be put aside though after his father Hakim (Harish Patel, Run Fatboy run) has a heart attack and Samir is forced to take over Tandoori Palace, the nearly bankrupt family restaurant in Jackson Heights. Samir’s relationship with his parents and his heritage is immediately put to the test. He has been estranged from his father since the death of his older brother, and his mother Farrida, (played by legendary cookbook writer and actor, Madhur Jaffrey), is consumed with finding a wife for her remaining son.

While Samir is being forced to forsake his dreams, he is desperately trying to master Indian cooking to salvage the family business. Luckily, he crosses paths with Akbar, a taxi driver, passionate chef, and worldly raconteur (portrayed by the icon of Indian cinema, Naseeruddin Shah, Monsoon Wedding). Akbar inspires Samir and teaches him to trust his senses more than recipes; to stop measuring his life, and to start truly living it. With Akbar’s guidance, Samir has a chance to rediscover his heritage and his passion for life through the enchanting art of cooking Indian food.

Hollywood movie online English movie online Comedy movie Romantic movie online movie Review movie story Fantasy Movie Adventure Movie Made in Dagenham English Movie Made in Dagenham Directed By Nigel Cole

Movie Plot Summary:
Set against the backdrop of the 1960s, Made in Dagenham is based on a true story about a group of spirited women who joined forces, took a stand for what was right, and in doing so, found their own inner strength.

Although far from the Swinging Sixties of Carnaby Street, life for the women of Dagenham, England is tinged with the sounds and sights of the optimistic era, heard on their radios and seen on their TV sets. Rita O’Grady (Sally Hawkins) reflects that upbeat era, along with her friends and co-workers at the city's Ford Motor Factory -- Sandra (Jamie Winstone), Eileen (Nicola Duffett), Brenda (Andrea Riseborough), Monica (Lorraine Stanley) and Connie (Geraldine James) -- who laugh in the face of their poor conditions. Lisa (Rosamund Pike) is a fiercely intelligent Cambridge-educated woman who feels a bit trapped, tending to the home with a husband that suggests she keep her opinions to herself. She may not live in the same world as the other women, but she shares their views. No one thought the revolution would come to Dagenham, until one day, it did.

Rita, who primarily sees herself as a wife and mother, is coerced into attending a meeting with shop steward Connie, sympathetic union representative Albert (Bob Hoskins) and Peter Hopkins (Rupert Graves), Ford’s Head of Industrial Relations. What she expects to be simply a day out of work, complete with a free lunch, turns into much more when she and her colleagues become outraged by the lack of respect shown in the meeting to the women employees.

With humor, common sense and courage Rita and the other women take on their bosses, an increasingly belligerent local community, and finally the government, as their intelligence and unpredictability proves to be a match for any of their male opponents. Daring to stand up and push boundaries, the women changed a system that no one wanted to admit was broken.

Movie Review:
Andrzej Wajda's superb Man of Iron (1981) was shot in the Gdansk shipyards at the very heart of Solidarity's activities, gave Lech Walesa a brief role as himself, and became part of the political process it commented on. It was a rare case of a feature film based on a major episode in the history of organised labour made close to the actual events. More typically, Mario Monicelli's The Organizer (1963) was a bracing reconstruction of a strike in late 19th-century Turin. Bo Widerberg's Adalen 31 (1969) lyrically recreated the violent strike in northern Sweden that ushered in 40 years of Social Democratic government.

There was an even greater gap in the case of Comrades (1986), Bill Douglas's epic account of the Tolpuddle Martyrs, the Dorset labourers transported to Australia in the 1830s for attempting to form a trade union.

There is, therefore, a precedent for the commercial cinema taking 42 years to get around to the 1968 strike by women machinists at Ford's plant at Dagenham, east London, which is what director Nigel Cole and his screenwriter William Ivory have done with Made in Dagenham. It's welcome, though hardly Ken Loach, whose Bread and Roses dealt with a successful strike by Latina office cleaners in Los Angeles, and the Dagenham factory depicted is far from the one controversially observed in 1969 by Jean-Luc Godard in his Marxist documentary British Sounds.

But you would not expect that of the director of the feelgood, rural, middle-class Calendar Girls, of which this is the urban, working-class equivalent. This, too, is largely fictionalised and mostly predictable, yet manages by its heart-on-sleeve openness to be oddly touching.

The strike came about when the 187 women who stitched the seat covers for Ford cars demanded equal pay with men. It was richly justified as they'd recently been reclassified as "unskilled" and worked in appalling conditions, and their action led to the Equal Pay Act of 1970. Though the larger social and historical background is fairly vague, the period is superficially well-evoked. Indeed, what the movie most resembles is the popular sitcom of the 1960s and 70s, The Rag Trade, in which Peter Jones as the boss of Fenner Fashions did constant battle with his all-female staff led by militant shop steward Miriam Karlin, as timid foreman Reg Varney looked on, and the catchphrase was: "Everybody out!"

Peter Jones's equivalent here is the staff at Ford, a crowd of remote, insensitive male chauvinists kowtowing to their American bosses. The Reg Varney figure is a minor union official sympathetic to the women's cause, played in his best twinkling, Dickensian manner by Bob Hoskins. Miriam Karlin's shop steward becomes the working-class mother and housewife Rita O'Grady, who is persuaded to lead the women and eventually gets to say: "Everybody out!"

Rita is played by Sally Hawkins, the overpoweringly cheerful heroine of Mike Leigh's Happy-Go-Lucky, and becomes the film's central character. She is the reincarnation of Gracie Fields, the ever-optimistic millworkers' leader in the feelgood Depression movie Sing As We Go, and apart from her no-nonsense handling of the duplicitous union apparatchiks and the Ford bosses, she has four significant relationships.

The first is with Connie (Geraldine James, prim branch president of the Women's Institute in Calendar Girls), the woman she replaces as shop steward. Connie's husband is physically and psychologically impaired by his heroic RAF service during the second world war and stands for the solid working class who sacrificed themselves to keep Britain free.

The second is with her husband, a decent father and breadwinner who becomes resentful when Rita neglects him and their children to pursue her new career and threatens his manhood. This relationship, which inevitably leads to his consciousness being raised, echoes precisely that between Sally Fields, the politicised blue-collar heroine of Martin Ritt's Norma Rae, and her husband.

The third relationship, involving Rosamund Pike as Lisa, the beautiful wife of Ford's managing director, is the most contrived. Lisa meets Rita when they both come to the local grammar school to complain about the old-fashioned maths teacher beating their sons. It transpires that Lisa, a university graduate (first-class honours at Cambridge no less), is unappreciated by her husband and openly sympathetic to the women's cause. As in Kipling's poem "The Ladies", "For the colonel's lady an' Judy O'Grady are sisters under their skins."

The fourth relationship is with the fiery Barbara Castle, secretary of state for employment in Harold Wilson's government. Impressively embodied by Miranda Richardson in an underwritten role, Castle is attended by a pair of lickspittle officials who would scarcely pass muster in a Carry On version of Yes, Minister, and seems in this context to foreshadow Margaret Thatcher. Her meetings with a pipe-puffing Wilson (played by John Sessions) hover uncomfortably between something Peter Morgan might have written and Mrs Wilson's Diary caricature. Eventually, and anti-climactically, Castle and O'Grady meet, discuss Biba and C&A fashions and pose for the press photographers.

Seeing Made in Dagenham reminded me that in 1987 I reviewed a more serious and politically committed film about labour relations, Lezli-An Barrett's Business as Usual, where Glenda Jackson leads a strike in a Liverpool boutique. I described it as "a cautiously optimistic movie that states that the best hope for the British working class, now as in the past, resides in organised labour and a united community". I was taken to task over this in an editorial in a right-wing broadsheet and derided as a deluded leftie. How long ago and far away that seems now.

Movie Plot Summary:
Life seems perfect for John Brennan until his wife, Lara, is arrested for a gruesome murder she says she didn't commit. Three years into her sentence, John is struggling to hold his family together, raising their son and teaching at college while he pursues every means available to prove her innocence. With the rejection of their final appeal, Lara becomes suicidal and John decides there is only one possible, bearable solution: to break his wife out of prison. Refusing to be deterred by impossible odds or his own inexperience, John devises an elaborate escape plot and plunges into a dangerous and unfamiliar world, ultimately risking everything for the woman he loves.

The Next Three Days Movie Review:
By Prairie Miller
The second big release right now to focus on the incarceration of innocents and the suggestion of a flawed criminal justice system where only the extreme defiant determination of family ties frees them, The Next Three Days unlike Conviction opts out of DNA/exoneration heartbreak as a triumphant dramatic tool. And goes directly for the post-9/11 paranoia, righteously rebellious jugular instead.

Written and Directed by Paul Haggis (Million Dollar Baby, In The Valley Of Elah, Crash), The Next Three Days finds the ordinary life of suburban Pittsburgh family man John Brennan (Russell Crowe) abruptly destroyed when his wife Lara (Elizabeth Banks) is tried and convicted of homicide. And in a circumstantial evidence case involving the murder of her boss that she didn't get along with.

When the appeals process is exhausted and Lara is about to be transferred from the county jail to a state prison, the distraught community college teacher vows to come up with a plan to free her no matter what the consequences. And embark on lives as Weather Underground style fugitives, before that transfer occurs in three days.

Seeking the advice of an ex-con and master escape artist (Liam Neeson) who's written a bestseller about it, Brennan is also that rare professor who practices what he preaches in class. In other words, taking inspiration from his own teachings about Don Quixote's notion that belief in virtue is more important than virtue itself, Brennan deduces that if the system is not under our control, creating a reality that is under our control is what 'drives men to be free.' Pretty subversive fighting words for Hollywood.

And The Next Three Days is much more than a standard thriller. Executed effectively on multiple levels, the story fuses with breathless intensity an unnerving collage of intimate emotion, passion and provocative suspense, And unequivocal identification with an anti-hero breaking every established social convention, and then some.

And like Conviction, and the striking Ford Plant women machinists in Made In Dagenham, this film summons extraordinary gifts from the most unassuming and unlikely people imaginable, to rise above their everyday lives to tackle injustices with insurrectionary zeal, even if in this case, purely personal. Though in a surprise ending twist, Haggis playfully baits and switches with a similar political showdown touching on where The Next Three Days was filmed, and where its setting professes to be, no more will be said on that score.
So is one man's terrorist another man's Russell Crowe? You bet.

Movie Plot Summary:
Kieu, a beautiful and talented actress, is starring in a film directed by Kim, an American/Vietnamese who has come back to Vietnam to become a part of the new wave of Vietnamese film culture. The film is being produced by her Uncle Henry and her mother Ba Tu.

It is a seemingly wonderful situation until the fragile family balance is disrupted when Kieu falls in love with her director, and Uncle Henry's mounting gambling debts shut down production of the film. Uncle Henry embraces dishonest ways to pay off his debts entering the murky realm of human trafficking.

Kieu must come to terms with the curse of beauty and the cost of loyalty that has forever burdened her life. Can Kieu save her family? And will our modern Kieu find her way back to her one true love?

Movie Story:
Inspired by the characters of Nguyen Du's 19th century masterpiece "the Story of Kieu", the first epic poem written in Vietnamese. It relates the destiny of Kieu, a young Vietnamese woman who sacrifices herself for her family. Itself based on an early Chinese legend, the epic poem chronicles the fate of Kieu, a beautiful young girl, who soon after her betrothal to her true love is left alone when he returns home to deal with a death in his family. After saying goodbye to her future husband Kieu returns to her house to find her father is about to be imprisoned on trumped up charges. She offers herself to free her father without fully understanding the ramifications of the life she has chosen. A stunning and tragic story of loyalty and the perils of beauty, it was written as an allegory for Vietnam, Nguyen Du's beautiful mother country which has almost always been possessed by others.

The Orgasm Diaries: Synopsis:
OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS – In this poetic love story, Noon (Nancy Trotter Landry) is our narrator, a shy taxidermist who keeps a silent menagerie of fauna in the freezer alongside Manchester’s (Liam Browne) ice pops. Manchester documents their affair, creating highly charged and wonderfully erotic images. There is no artificiality in his work, just an instinctive technique, a couple of cheap instamatic cameras and a willing girlfriend. In a garage on a wasteland, Noon and Manchester have made a home and are spending their first summer together. They are happy to detach themselves from the outside world as much as possible, allowing them to explore each other and indulge their passions. In their space away from other distractions, their appetite and attraction for each other is intensified. How will their relationship fare when they step out of this cocooned environment? Tension is never far from the surface, and things are exacerbated when Manchester is seduced by a lucrative offer that takes him away from Noon and the world they share. Franny, a wealthy pornographer and connoisseur of erotica, launches Manchester’s photography in the art world; Manchester’s success destroys the beauty of their once idyllic life. His downfall is as rapid as his rise.
All the characters are linked thematically via Erotology; the study of sexual love and lovemaking.

More Info:
A handsome young guy named Manchester and his girlfriend Noon are having sex a small garage apartment in the English countryside during an endless sweltering summer day. He's a photographer, she's a taxidermist—and they are head over heals in lust with one another. But when he leaves the photos behind in a pub after one too many pints, a wealthy collector "discovers" Manchester's work and soon makes him the crème de la crème of the art world. Money is new in Manchester's world, and his hasty rise to fame spurs unforeseen consequences and uncovered truths. ORGASM DIARIES is a gorgeous and intoxicating story of passion, art, and ambition.

The Orgasm Diaries:Reviews:
1) I was fortunate to be one of the first to see this at the EIFF press screening. I haven't felt a film speak so honestly before. Here we have two characters Manchester and Noon, tangled in a sexually fuelled and intense relationship. They both live for the moment and everything outside their world threatens their together-ness.

The film focuses heavily on racy, intimate scenes between the pair. The chemistry between the two is very believable, I especially enjoyed Noons character played by Nancy Trotter Landry. her angelic face catches every single moment of emotion and you are sometimes taken aback at how filthy she is during the film. I also commend Liam Browne who plays Manchester for being brave enough to show his genitals whether urinating or being frozen cold. I haven't seen a film like this where a relationship is so thoroughly sexually explored.
The plot of the film is lacking slightly but I feel it is contrasts the mundane northern feel. Nevertheless very good acting and I was fixed to my sit throughout. This feels like the way British cinema should be going, bold, brash and modern.

2) Review:
The great love story with full-on eroticism has somehow never sounded like the sort of the thing the British do at all, much less do well. Director Ashley Horner set out to put that right.

His protagonists are two freewheeling youngsters who are In Love. So they spend most of the 97 minutes of this film Having Sex. Manchester is a sort of would-be photographer and Noon is a self-confessed taxidermist. Their sources of income, if any, are not particularly clear. But such details could after all complicate the heady sense of falling for someone you have heady sex with. Especially at an age where hormones are high and responsibilities are low. Things can get complicated. Such as when Manchester leaves his lovingly lensed erotic photos in the local boozer. And they are picked up by someone with a slightly more commercial eye for such things.

The good things about brilliantlove are quite a few. Seeing the two leads with all their clothes on for the Q & A at least reassured me that they did an decent job as actors, and weren’t just a couple of hippie-types who had wandered onto the set. The film is shot in a very warm and natural way without being cheesy. There is none of the attempt to desexualise (the quite graphic) sex as is so common in arthouse movies which want to prove they are high brow. People in brilliantlove are meant to look warm and sexy in a nice way, and actually achieve that. There’s plenty of natural, inoffensive full-frontal nudity along the lines of two people who might wander around half naked anyway, and happen to be young, and happen to be physically good-looking. No penetration close-ups in case you are getting hot under the collar. It doesn’t seem to be pushing UK censorship boundaries, and so doesn’t have to wave a flag that justifies it in the name of art. The only thing a stuffy person might object to on the nudity count would be the sheer quantity. The filmmakers should also be complimented on turning out a decent job on what was probably a non-existent budget. The script is as natural as the acting, and it generally has all the warm fuzzies that go with saving small furry animals from a night in the cold.

But if brilliantlove succeeds in making a fully British erotic love story, it doesn’t quite manage to make a great one. Except for competent demonstration of technique, one might question whether it was worth making at all. It is hard to care about the characters that deeply, or whether they are in love. ‘Nice-ish kids’ is about the best you could say. There is no perceptible intellectual connection – in fact both of them seem a Rizla paper short of a spliff at times – and any emotional connection seems based more on the devotion arising from good physical chemistry and easy-going natures. Such shortcomings alone would not ruin a film, and indeed the last 10 to 15 minutes manage to salvage much of the dramatic tension. But the story is weak. Grand end statements try to assert the seriousness of the affair – sadly, using the standard three-part formula of, love, break-up, and reunion. Overall, brilliantlove is just a little bit too inoffensive to really get one's teeth into.

What particularly worries me is that it is being held up as a very British offering. Films that are different and have something to say in some way need to stand out more. At least 9 Songs divided opinion. Not that sexy, but it had shock value and an unusual, segmented composition which I personally rather liked. Erotic and explicit love stories do seem to come from abroad. Whether major hitters such as Breillat’s beautiful Brief Crossing, the wistful hedonism of The Dreamers, the aesthetically engaging romance and eroticism of Sex And Lucia, the controversial love-tragedies like Irreversible or Antichrist, Cronenberg’s fetish love (Crash), or the simple shock-value graphic love in The Brown Bunny. All these films, love them or hate them, are worthy of serious attention. Sadly the harshest thing one might say about brilliantlove is that it is just... well... ‘quite nice.’

The ideal market might be the age-group where people are losing virginity with weekend pocket-money at the cinema. Getting swept up in waves of strong first emotion – or infatuation – and definitely passion. Where they might strongly identify with the characters. Ironically, the ubiquitous soft-porn warmth of ‘erotic love’ so constantly on screen will possibly classify this film as ‘unsuitable’ until they are of an age to have refined their tastes or cooled their ardour. There again, a lot of people in the audience seemed to quite like it. Maybe I’m just an old fuddy-duddy...

Review:
I almost don’t have words. Almost.
Sex Magic is a documentary. It’s about a dude, Baba Dez, a Daka/ Tantric sexual shaman and founder of The Sedona Temple. Poor Baba falls in love but loses his woman because of his polyamorous lifestyle (he fucks around a lot). And so of course he decides to get her back by performing “Sex Magic” on other women.

I am not making this up and it is not a parody. Watch the not entirely NSFW or children (no real nudity but conversation) yourself:
Sex Magic opens in theaters today, though you’ll probably have better like finding actual in-theater porn. It’s also available On Demand.
