Hollywood Movie Salt - Review

Salt is one of those rare action flicks that has non-stop hard hitting action for ninety minutes straight and is all done with a brain. Originally, written for a male lead star, in which Tom Cruise was the primary candidate but after he turned it down because it was too similar to his role in Mission: Impossible the makers changed the script and took on Angelina Jolie to play the same role reworked for a female main lead.

Evelyn Salt (Jolie) is a C.I.A. officer who is amazing at her job. She has done everything to protect the United States. One day, as she is leaving work to go home to her husband for their anniversary, a strange man walks into the C.I.A. offices with an extremely odd accusation about Salt. As she and her partner, Ted Winter (Schreiber), sit around to hear him talk, things start to get a little crazy. This man, who is considered a defector, claims that Evelyn is actually a Russian spy who has been planted in the United States to kill the President. Salt freaks out, thinking that this can’t be true, and makes a run for it. Ted is on her side at first, but as the counter-intelligence officer Peabody (Ejiofor) steps in, he starts to realize that Evelyn could actually be a Russian spy. Her actions of running away are not helping her but she wants to make sure that her husband is safe, even if that means risking her life. As the movie goes on, we learn more and more about who Salt really is. The question is whether or not she can prove her innocence before being captured.

The action is absolutely non-stop but the best part about it is that it’s believable. Director Philip Noyce (Clear and Present Danger) does not go over-the-top to the point where the action seemed unreal. Being that this movie is about 90 percent action, there is great story-telling occurring as well. The twists and turns in the plot are very surprising and keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. Throughout the entire film, you will be questioning who Salt really is. As the story gets deeper you start to become attached to the character but the best part is that you don’t really ever know her true intentions. That hopefully will leave the film open for a sequel.

Jolie has finally bridged that gap where one is able to look at her character as an action star, rather than a female or male. Every performance in the film is strong from Jolie to the amazingly talented actors, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Liev Schrieber.

The film is short (100 minutes running time), fun and you get to see Angelina Jolie kicking butt and looking hot. Do watch it on the big screen.

Cast: Angelina Jolie, Liev Schreiber, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Daniel Olbrychski

Hollywood Movie Despicable Me - Review

Tags: hollywood reviews | despicable me movie review | hollywood film despicable me | new animated 3-d feature | voices of steve carell, jason segel | julie andrews | russell brand | pierre coffin | chris renaud

You'd have to be totally despicable and heartless not to be entranced by "Despicable Me," the new animated 3-D feature that mixes wit, affection and cartoon slapstick.

This is a movie that entire family can enjoy as it tells its story of a master villain tamed by three little girls. Gru aims to be the world's No. 1 villain, but to do so he must pull off the crime of the century. With the aid of his little yellow minions, he proposes shrinking and stealing the moon. To do so, though, he must recover a shrinking ray stolen by Vector, a rival villain. To accomplish this aim, he adopts three orphan girls who have sold Vector cookies in order to gain entrance to his lair. But as every parent knows, where children are involved plans usually are disrupted, delayed, deterred or deferred. Much to his surprise and annoyance, Gru actually finds himself growing attached to his young charges, even as he gives in to their demands in order to carry out his scheme.

"Despicable Me" brilliantly combines comedy and compassion, humor and heart. The film begins slowly then builds up steam as Gru devises plot after plot to recover his shrinking ray and claim the top spot in villainy. One of the movie's delights is seeing all the gadgets and weapons Gru and his arch-rival have at their disposal.

Whatever situation arises, something is always at the ready to handle it. Also abetting the enjoyment is the purposeful use of 3-D. In "Despicable Me," it is more than a gimmick. It actually helps tell the story. The really cool use comes during the end credits when the filmmakers do show off a bit, putting some of the minions through some delightful stunts.

Steve Carell as voice for Gru is a master stroke. Speaking with an unrecognizable foreign accent, Carell conveys Gru's megalomania, dastardly scheming as well as his ultimate softening and reformation. Adding to the pleasure are the voices of Jason Segel as Vector, Julie Andrews as Gru's mother, Kristen Wiig as the Miss Hannigan-like owner of the orphanage, Russell Brand as Gru's scientific helper Dr. Nefario and Miranda Cosgrove, Elsie Fisher and Dana Gaier as the girls.

"Despicable Me" is a pleasure, an entertaining outing that will have youngsters and oldsters alike laughing out loud. It's imaginative, smart and charming.

Director: Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud

Cast: Voices of Steve Carrell, Jason Segel, Julie Andrews and Russell Brand

Emma Watson slams 'Twilight' series for 'selling sex'

New York (ANI): 'Harry Potter' star Emma Watson has apparently slammed the popular 'Twilight' series for selling sex. The 22-year-old actress, who reprises her role as Hermione in the upcoming 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part I, condemned the rival franchise during a conference call with journalists.

"This kiss between Hermione and Ron [Weasley played by co-star Rupert Grint] is highly anticipated, it's been building up for eight films now," the New York Daily News quoted her as telling OK Magazine. "And Harry Potter is not 'Twilight,' you know'. We're not selling sex," she added.

Watson had been addressing the long-gestating romance between Hermione and Ron, leading up to a kiss. Although it is a fan favourite from the book, Watson admitted it was uncomfortable for her and Grint to shoot. "In fact, it was horribly awkward; we couldn't stop laughing," she said.

The much talked movie of director Sanjay Leela Bhansali titled Guzaarish, which stars Aishwarya Bachchan, was supposed to release its trailers with the prints of recently released We Are Family. However, it got delayed for a month and now the trailers will appear with Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor starrer Anjaana Anjaani.

In the meantime, the industry insiders have reported that the trailer shows Aishwarya smoking cigarettes anxiously. The films in India have no more ban on smoking but the former beauty queen is a global icon and smoking is no doubt injurious to health. So people have expressed their concern over these particular scenes in the trailers of the movie.

However, a source close to the film was quoted saying that Aishwarya is not actually smoking in the movie. The scene is very cute and funny and the sequence is captured very beautifully where she tries to smoke even though she does not know how to do it.

Well, whether Ash is really smoking or not is something we can’t comment on at the moment, but what about the other stars, who have been often shown smoking in the films. Are they not propagating smoking? One cannot actually force or encourage smoking, whether he is a star or a common man. It’s totally a decision of an individual because stars also do many good things in the movies but are the youngsters encouraged by that?

London (ANI): Amy Winehouse's new romance with director Reg Traviss has ended within four months of it's commencement. They couple had a blazing argument after Traviss was spotted hand in hand with his dancer ex, Raven.

"She hasn't spoken to Reg since and she's told everyone that it's over. She's pretty cut up about it, as she was serious concerning the relation. Amy is confused and vulnerable," the Sun quoted a close pal of Amy as saying.

Since Reg was caught with his ex, Amy has been seen crying in his parents' London pub. Moreover, her ex, Blake, is constantly calling her, something she could do without. "Reg might have bungled by having unfinished business with an ex but Blake is a complete loser. She's had a pretty rubbish time, I just hope her weekend is better," her friend concluded.

There is a report that Saif Ali Khan, has moved out of the sequel of the blockbuster movie Race and Abhishek Bachchan is likely to take up the role. The Abbas Mustan directed movie was a big hit and starred Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif, Akshay Khanna, Anil Kapoor and Sameera Reddy in the lead roles. Bipasha Basu and Katrina were already missing in Race 2 and now Saif is also moving out.

However, there is a buzz that junior Bachchan will replace Saif and will match up to the attitude of the character. Khan left the project because he has got extremely busy with his home production titled Agent Vinod, which also stars his girlfriend Kareena Kapoor. So, Saif has enough good reason to move out. However, the sequel is expected to have Kareena and her once rival Priyanka Chopra.

Race 2 is still in the scripting stage and Abhishek is still under consideration so who knows what the final cast would be. The filmmakers are trying to keep the original glamorous touch to the sequel also.

Saif has taken the decision at the right time when the movie is still in its pre-production stage and the makers have enough time to decide on his replacement.

Nimrod Antal’s Predators is a pseudo-sequel/reboot of the sci-fi action franchise that manages to pump new life into a series that many left for dead. Working from a story idea by producer Robert Rodriguez (Planet Terror), the film takes the action back to a locale similar to the one in the Arnold Schwarzenegger cult classic as it amps up the action and gore. To be sure, these are cosmetic concerns but what really makes the film work is its veteran cast and a clever script that’s far more entertaining than it has any right to be.

Exposition be damned, Antal drops us straight into the action with his opening shot of military mercenary Royce (Adrien Brody) plunging towards the earth. Gathering himself, he opens his parachute, lands safely and discovers seven others who’ve had similar experiences. Lost in remote but seemingly familiar surroundings, what they don’t realize is that they are all dangerous killers in their chosen fields and they’ve been placed in a hunting preserve so that the title alien race can sharpen their skills by hunting them down.

Antal keeps things moving at a decent clip until the overlong third act, and the special effects are quite good. A herd of alien boars that come a huntin’ are frighteningly real while the Hawaiian locales make for a tropical yet alien environment. However, the cast is what saves the day. Brody is convincingly stern and surprisingly pulls off the tough stuff while Alice Braga as a military sharpshooter and Topher Grace as a misplaced surgeon effectively play it straight. But it’s Laurence Fishburne as a long-suffering survivor who steals the show. Unbalanced yet wily, he brings a gravity to the proceedings that goes far in convincing us that the threat they face is real.

Sure, Predators sounds more like a B-movie premise, but the A-list talent on board makes Predators the most pleasant surprise of the summer.

Lenny Feder (Adam Sandler) is a wildly successful Hollywood agent married to a fashion designer (Salma Hayek) and father to three bratty kids who spend all their time on tech devices. He is thrown together with five of his old high school basketball team following the death of their beloved coach. They haven’t seen each other for 30 years. Naturally all of them pretend to be flourishing except for Lenny who wants to downplay his wealth and the nanny they have to look after the kids. His buddies are Kevin James as a businessman, his wife (Maria Bello) who persists in breastfeeding their four-year-old son; Kurt (Chris Rock), a stay-at-home dad with a domineering wife (Maya Rudolph) and his mother-in-law (Ebony Jo-Ann) whose physical ailments are ridiculed; Rob (Rob Schneider), a health-conscious New Age devotee and his wife (Joyce Van Patten) who is much older than he is; and Marcus (David Spade), a witty singleton.

This Dennis Dugan directed sporadically funny comedy about a sad group of middle-agers who have built their lives on lies and fantasies that make them feel forever young is not as entertaining as you would expect it to be given the casting. All the sex jokes, farts, and bikini-clad young women cannot punch up what is essentially a chaotic tale of five friends who don’t want to ever grow up and face the unpleasant truth about themselves.

Nobody really acts here, they’re all doing cheap stand-up turns, and Dennis Dugan’s typically lackadaisical direction imposes no control on their excesses. Sandler just mopes through the picture, but he ungenerously gives himself the part of the one really successful member of the quintet, and also the one who’s wisest about how they all ought to live. The four other “stars” are one-note figures, and played that way. The women are even more sketchily drawn, reaching a low point in a scene at that unnecessary water park where they descend to “Sex and the City” level. And the youngsters are just convenient foils. But certainly the most embarrassing turns—despite the awful ones handed to Spade, Schneider, Bello, Hayak and Van Patten—go to prune-faced Quinn and particularly Steve Buscemi, whose cameo as one of his pals is the movie’s absolute nadir.

Avoid this one unless you have absolutely nothing else to do!

Hollywood Movie Cats & Dogs - Review

Tags: hollywood reviews, cats & dogs review, the revenge of kitty galore, james marsden, nick nolte, christina applegate, bette midler, roger moore, director brad peyton, hollywood cinema review

The film is a sequel to Cats & Dogs (2001) which was an amusing but largely forgettable family flick that had domestic canines and felines running a secret war against each other. In this film the Cats and Dogs continue to be mortal enemies in a battle for supremacy among humans, and both sides have secret organizations and technology at their disposal.

A loose -cannon police dog named Diggs (voice of James Marsden) is recruited by his species' equivalent of the CIA to help stop a psychotic hairless cat named Kitty Galore (Bette Midler). Kitty plans to deploy a weapon that will make all dogs go crazy, which will cause their owners to get rid of them, which will enable cats to take over their share of the pet market.

The feline intelligence agency wants to stop the rogue Kitty, too, as her actions would upset the balance of power and violate the rules of war, or something. This leads to a rare truce between cats and dogs so the two sides can work together and thwart their common enemy. Diggs and his gruff veteran partner, Butch (Nick Nolte), are teamed with Catherine (Christina Applegate), a top feline spy. They receive intel from a stool pigeon named Seamus (Katt Williams). They also descend into a Silence of the Lambs-ish prison to seek advice from Mr. Tinkles (Sean Hayes), the fiendish feline villain from the first Cats & Dogs.

The film is mostly live-action, the animals' faces digitally manipulated to make them talk. Good old-fashioned puppetry and newfangled CGI are also employed as needed. Ron J. Friedman and Steve Bencich, a duo that also contributed to Brother Bear, Chicken Little, and Open Season have packed their rather short screenplay with as many pet–related jokes as they could. A good many of these are corny and forced, but more than a few made me laugh outright. The plot is straight out of the James Bond casebook, and the film owes much of its look and ideas to classic entries in that franchise, including a villainous sidekick akin to Jaws and Roger Moore voicing the feline equivalent of M.

However, too much time is spent on the wordy script and sly tributes to other more adult films including The Silence of the Lambs, Terminator 2: Judgment Day and The Fly to keep youngsters entertained throughout. But thanks to improvements in CGI and a sympathetic canine lead (voiced by James Marsden), this is a slight improvement on the original, with the prize for the best voice acting going to Bette Midler, who lends Kitty a devilish rasp that's one of the joys of the film.

The film succeeds as a moderately funny entertainer but not anywhere closer to the first part. However, one just wishes the film was in regular 2D instead of cashing on the 3D craze and converting it to one!

Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore: Moderately funny

Rating: 2.5 out of 5*

Starring: Voices of James Marsden, Nick Nolte, Christina Applegate, Bette Midler and Roger Moore

Hollywood Movie Bitch Slap - Review

The opening credits sequence of this film is all about women wrestling with each other in films of yesteryear, while the credits themselves are sarcastic indicators of what's to come. The film then begins with a car roaring into a remote desert encampment, its engine and the pounding music battling for control of the soundtrack.

Three women emerge from the rattle-trap, one adorned in high heels and all in scanty clothes that cling to their bodies like sweat on a summer day. They survey a rusty trailer and gasoline cans that litter the hideaway. Then they pull a bound and wounded man from the car's trunk. They intend to make him give up the location of what they seek and don't mind using extreme pain in that quest. These three women are Camero (America Olivo), a pill-popping killer; Trixie (Julia Voth), an "angelic" stripper; and Hel (Erin Cummings), a mysterious underground op. Their captive is Gage (Michael Hurst).

The back story then unfolds in flashbacks to fill you in on the who's and why's behind everyone's presence in this godforsaken landscape. All the women have secrets, so betrayals cut back and forth as the trio fights one another and those who follow them into the hideaway. The latter includes a sheriff's deputy named Fuchs (Ron Melendez) and two psycho killers, a stud called Hot Wire (William Gregory Lee) and a Japanese hottie with a lethal yo-yo named Kinki (Minae Noji).

Co-written and produced by Rick Jacobson and Eric Gruendemann of TV’s Xena: Warrior Princess fame, it wants to be a throwback to the Russ Meyer-type sexploitation flicks of a gentler era. It’s a mash up of biker chick, chick in prison and other Grindhouse genres with lots of slow motion cleavage, girls in short skirts, girls kissing and girls fighting. The problem, however, is that it's as badly crafted as it is occasionally clever, a poor man's Sin City, with no real sense of how to walk the tightrope between well-executed irony and stupid, cornball homage. Delivered with tongue in cheek, there’s a gleeful stupidity to Bitch Slap that threatens to entertain at times, but it never goes far enough.

The actresses deliver highly sensual performances where every thought and desire gets communicated more through their body language than actual dialogue. Their stares, postures, movements, snarls, smacks, evasions and feral reactions convey whatever emotional inner life these absurd caricatures might possess.

The idea of the film isn’t a bad one. There is always room for some good old fashioned cinematic exploitation, but Bitch Slap never strikes the right balance. The filmmakers are never fully enough committed to their roots to pull it off convincingly. The end result ultimately is a total misfire.

Bitch Slap: A wannabe Tarantino flick!

Halo Movie Could Still Happen
September 5th, 2010

We haven't heard much on the Halo movie since it was reported to be put on hold last August and now a new story in Variety reveals the film still could happen. Here's what Franchise Development director Frank O'Connor had to say about the film possibilities:

"We're still interested in making an excellent Halo movie," O'Connor said. "We've created an awful lot of documentation and materials to support a feature film. We have a good idea of what kind of story we want to tell, but won't move on it until there's a great reason to do it. We're in no particular hurry."

We also reported in April that O'Connor said the Halo movie would still happen, but it seems that no further progress has been made at this time. It was said that scripts by Alex Garland, Stuart Beattie, Josh Olson and D.B. Weiss were still being developed by Microsoft and considered as potential blueprints for a movie.

It was also said that Microsoft was, "intently watching" the television market for a possible Halo TV series as well. The latest video game in the lucrative franchise, "Halo Reach," will arrive in stores on September 14.

We'll be sure to keep you posted with any further details on a Halo movie or TV series as soon as we have more information.
Halo is in development .

The Story : Happy Happy Ga is a Mani Sharma's musical love story based movie. In which, Santhosh (Varun Sandesh) is an orphan who lives along with his 4 friends and he pins his livelihood with a business of wishing the people with a bouquet on behalf of his customers.
He names his team as ‘Cartoon Guys’ where his friends dress up like cartoon characters while wishing people. Santhosh wishes to love a girl and settle his life with her. But no girl loves him. Accidentally he encounters a girl Pooja (Vega) and falls in her love.

Movie Review:
Young hero Varun Sandesh similar to delivering hits of his life ‘Happy Days and KBL’ has happen to more unfailing with failures from carry on three to four movies. With another director Priya Saran course the team, pretty n tiny heroines Saranya Mohan and Vega sharing the prime roles, ‘Happy Happyga’ is a litmus test in place of Varun Sandesh and Music Director Mani Sharma, as both are nomadic through a rough letter. Let us know, how Happy was this film in place of both of them and of classes audience?
Clothed in the Movie Happy Happyga: Santosh (Varun Sandesh), is a jovial living guy in Vizag running a gift consultancy ‘Cartoon Guys’ which relinquish gifts in the form of feelings and expressions from single crew to other.

Santhosh (Varun Sandesh) is an orphan who lives along with his 4 friends and he pins his livelihood with a business of wishing the people with a bouquet on behalf of his customers. He names his team as ‘Cartoon Guys’ where his friends dress up like cartoon characters while wishing people. Santhosh wishes to love a girl and settle his life with her. But no girl loves him. Accidentally he encounters a girl Pooja (Vega) and falls in her love. He wishes to propose her but knowing that Pooja has no positive opinion on love factor, he keeps silent. He decides to nurture his love slowly and get close to her. But unexpectedly another girl Priya (Saranya Mohan) gets force from Pooja to love Santhosh. Why so? That forms the first twist in the story. Eventually after several twists and turns, the movie comes to climax. With whom Santhosh ties up at last- Pooja or Priya, or none? That has to be watched on screen.

Pooja carries all his love letters to Priya, the stranger and she has fallen in love with him almost immediately. The rest of the film is how Pooja plays a glorified broker’s job and in the process begins to feel love for the hero. The hero is in a role conflict, to reveal all. Another angle to this love story is the Priya’s brother is a baddie and he wants to see his sister happy so compels the hero to love her (sic) as she will soon die (she suffers from an ailment). Now to know if Priya dies or not, if she gets Santosh or Pooja does..one has to sit through the second part of the film.

The director Priya Saran has handled the film in an absolutely juvenile manner. Shabby cinematography, the plot and treatment gives it a third grade look. Varun Sandesh’s non stop prattle is not amusing especially when he pronounces Taj Mahal as Taj Mahaal. The entire film has him smile constantly and when the situation demands that he needs to look sad, in the last scene, he fails to deliver the right expression making a mockery of the entire story. Is Vega blinded by too much light or is she opening or closing her eyes is something that needs to be unraveled. Saranya Mohan does a convincing job. The Story :
Gudu Gudu Gunjam is a family based film in which, Rajendra Prasad, Sitara, Kasturi, Paardhu and Ridhima are playing the main leads in this movie.
Father role played by Rajendra Prasad experiences many things in the process of getting his son married and there will be many twists and turns.

Movie Review:

Rajendra Prasad is good, his mannerisms and comedy timing was good. Sitara and Kasturi are adequate. Parthu is a misfit. He is poor in delivering dialogues. All the heroines are more like B grade models. Music is bad. Art and cinematography are poor. Story is o.k. but the screenplay is weak. Direction is weak.

This film has Rajendra Prasad as the protagonist and produced by Ravi Kumar Reddy under the banner of Sri Chitra and directed by Veeru. Screenplay for the film is written by Maruduri Raja, dialogues are by Nandyala Ravi and Lyrics are written by Kula Sekhar, Bhaskarabatla and Vishwa.

Gopalam (Rajendra Prasad) is a famous criminal and is a henpecked husband of Sita (Sitara). Parthu (Parthu) son of Gopalam kisses a girl in the college and mother of the girl (Telangana sakunthala) is after him to kill. He absconds to Bangkok and falls in love with Meenakshi (chahat). Parthu’s parents too agree for the marriage with Meenakshi. What happens after that?? Who stops them from getting married? What’s the story behind that is what all the film is about.

Paardhu and Ridhima are the lead pair and Smt. Lakshmi Ravikumar Reddy is the producer. Director Veeru Dwaith says it’s a family based film and a father played by Rajendra Prasad experiences many things in the process of getting his son married and there will be many twists and turns. MS Narayana, Krishna Bhagawan, Kondavalasa are the rest of the cast. Soma Vijaya Prakash presents the film.

Britain: Virgin at 106?
Saturday, September 4, 2010, 14:08 [IST]

London, Sep 4: An old woman who turned 106-year-old on Saturday, Sep 4 in Britain is not only a virgin but also she has never kissed anyone, The Sun reported.

Isa Blyth, born in 1904, believed that being single has made her stay strong."I'm not sure if anyone ever tried it on, but they never got anywhere! She says she never felt the need for romance and never had time for a man.

She attended flower club and church, sang in the choir, played golf or gardening and worked for 35 years as a private secretary to a whisky producer.

Niece Sheena said, "She was wrapped up in her church and she loved her choir and flower club.

"And she had a high-powered job, which meant she was always busy.

"She never had time to be sad. She's an amazing character. You wouldn't believe she was 106."

PAKISTAN'S new skipper Shahid Afridi has BANNED his players from reading the News of the World.

UNDER PRESSURE - Pakistan's new skipper Shahid Afridi

Afridi has taken over from shamed Test captain Salman Butt.

And he has apologised "to all cricket lovers" for the shame his disgraced colleagues have heaped on the game.

The Pakistan team braced themselves for more revelations in Sunday's paper after we sensationally broke the spot-fixing story last week.

But Afridi told his players to avoid a trip to the newsagent ahead of their Twenty20 clash on Sunday.

He said: "I've told the boys 'Don't read the newspaper - just focus on cricket'. I know the people in Pakistan are very upset and what's happened is very disappointing. I think this is very bad news.

"On behalf of these boys I want to say sorry to all cricket lovers and all the cricketing nations."

England v Pakistan series to go ahead - team manager

CARDIFF | Sun Sep 5, 2010 12:25pm BST

(Reuters) - The first Twenty20 international between England and Pakistan was set to go ahead as planned on Sunday despite the latest allegations in the fixing controversy, Pakistan manager Yawar Saeed said.

The Pakistan team held an emergency meeting after The News of the World reported that a fourth player was being investigated over match-rigging allegations, leading to speculation that they could pull out of the series.

"We are going to the ground for the match and that means the series is on," Yawar told Geo Super Channel.

The newspaper quoted Pakistan batsman Yasir Hameed as saying that some of his team mates were fixing matches.

Hameed again denied making these allegations, even though the newspaper released a video of the interview with him.

"I was approached by this guy about a deal for sticker sponsorship on my bat. It was a general discussion and I just repeated what had already been published in the News of the World," Hameed told Reuters.

"I was tricked into this interview I never knew they were recording it which is a serious offence and I am talking to the Pakistan team management about it," he said.

Test captain Salman Butt and pace bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamir were suspended by the International Cricket Council last week over spot-fixing allegations.

Shahid Afridi, who will captain Pakistan in the one-day series against England, apologised to his countrymen for the damage caused by the scandal.

"Pakistanis passionately love their cricket team and support us. I apologise to them and the rest of the cricket world for what has happened," he told Geo News channel.

"I can only ask for forgiveness on behalf of Salman, Asif and Aamir."

Pakistan High Commissioner Wajid Shamsul Hasan told BBC Radio Sunday that the trio should receive life bans if they are found guilty.

"If the News of the World evidence is correct then I would banish them from cricket," Hasan said.

Anti-corruption chief's underworld warning to players

Sir Ronnie Flanagan

DANGERS - Sir Ronnie Flanagan

WORLD CRICKET'S anti-corruption chief has warned players tempted by the murky underworld of spot-fixing: You don't know who you're dealing with.

Sir Ronnie Flanagan, the man who helped bring peace to Northern Ireland during a 32-year career in the Royal Ulster Constabulary, talks of the potential dangers faced by players associating with criminals.

Flanagan's first month in charge of the ICC's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit has coincided with cricket's biggest scandal since the Hansie Cronje affair.

And former Australia star Geoff Lawson this week spoke of the kidnap threats made against a selector's daughter during his tenure as Pakistan coach.

Flanagan is at pains to stress the link between the criminal underworld and cricket remains to be proven and at NO point does he refer to the current ongoing investigation.

But from the experience of other sports, he admits the threat is out there.

"Absolutely we warn players of the dangers," he said.

"At this stage I have no personal knowledge or belief that this kind of thing is going on in cricket.

"But when you look at the wider sports world, some of these people are very nasty and have very dangerous connections. There is absolutely no doubt about that.

"I wouldn't want to overplay it, but look at approaches that have been made in the world of horse racing and in other areas of professional sport.

"Some of these people to whom I refer undoubtedly have very suspect connections with people who can be dangerous.

"The potential threat is there, undoubtedly.

"The threat to the game of course often comes from people outside the game of cricket who have no love for the game.

"These are people who have no respect for the integrity or the reputation of the game of cricket. They simply want to make illegal profit.

"It's not only advice, it's an absolute requirement under our code for players to report approaches from any of these people."

The ACSU has been under the spotlight since last Sunday's sensational revelations about Pakistan players' involvement in illegal gambling.

Flanagan, 61, is in the process of beefing up his team as he seeks to eradicate corruption in the sport.

He said: "I salute what The News of the World has done in bringing alleged wrongdoing to our notice.

"My aim, as far as is humanely possible, is to rid cricket of people who would engage in corruption and people who would in any way engage in dishonesty.

"I want the public to be absolutely satisfied when they are watching international cricket it is a truly fair and competitive game.

"It is my absolute determination, and that of all my colleagues, to do everything in our power to ensure that cricket is, and remains, clean.

"I am determined to free it from these criminal and corrupt people who would do so much to damage the integrity and the good name of cricket.

"I feel the pain and upset of cricket fans personally. Neither my team, nor I, will rest until we have done everything possible to ensure the game is clean.

"I remain of the firm view that what we are seeing now does not represent a contagion, the game is not rotten, it doesn't mean it is rampant.

"But what it does mean is that everyone in the game must increase and enhance their vigilance and their awareness to prevent this sort of thing."

Flanagan has been hardened in life by his dealings with terrorists and murderers in Northern Ireland.

But that has not stopped him being "deeply saddened" by a scandal that rocked the sport he played as a child on the backstreets of north Belfast.

Today he reaffirms his call for players to blow the whistle on anybody, including team-mates, they suspect of involvement in corruption.

Flanagan believes it is imperative players inform the authorities if they suspect any player.

He said: "When we sought assistance from the public in Northern Ireland my message used to be - You are the folks who know the regular patterns of activity in your area.

"Therefore you will know of any departure from these regular patterns.

"If you see any departures from those regular patterns, please inform us, that's my message to the players.

"In Northern Ireland I would rather have had 50 false alarms of what looked to be suspicious activity than miss the one where someone is actually making a bomb.

"Having been involved in policing in Northern Ireland and having frequently received reports of the most dreadful occurrences, the shock factor naturally diminishes over time.

"When I heard of the latest allegations, it wasn't so much a shock - we all know this sort of thing goes on - but I personally believe that it goes on from time to time rather than going on from a rampant sense.

"But it was a sense of great sadness. I feel this is the way that all true cricket people will be feeling it."

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has raised doubts over dressing room security at international matches, claiming mobile phones can be easily smuggled in and out.

Vaughan believes airport-style security may be required to prevent the practice.

And Flanagan admitted: "Nothing is off the agenda."

Cricket supporters this week voiced their fury at the hugely damaging recent revelations.

Flanagan added: "My message to cricket fans is - do not be disheartened. Place your trust that we will do all we can in our powers to keep this sport clean. Keep alert, and if there is anything at all, get in touch with us.

"Keep faith in the wonderful game of cricket.

"Undoubtedly, at this moment in time, there is a cloud hanging over the game.

"But every cloud does have a silver lining.

"We must do everything in our power to ensure the silver lining of this temporary cloud is that everyone enhances their awareness, everyone increases their vigilance.

"Everyone takes this as a wake-up call to make sure everything that is humanely possible is done to prevent it happening in the future.

The Office Season 7 will mark the final year that Steve Carell appears as boss Michael Scott to the beloved staff at Paper Company Dunder/Mifflin.

EXCLUSIVE: Oscar Nunez Talks The Office Season 6 DVD/Blu-ray and Season 7 Premiere
September 3rd, 2010

Oscar Nunez reveals whom he'd like to have take over the popular NBC show once Steve Carell leaves

The Office Season 7 will mark the final year that Steve Carell appears as boss Michael Scott to the beloved staff at Paper Company Dunder/Mifflin. Ever since Steve Carell announced his departure, there has been plenty of speculation about who will take over the job. A popular theory has Dunder/Mifflin turning to one of its already-existing employees to hold down this important position. Could that particular bench warmer be Oscar Nuñez, who has been with the series since its debut in 2005?

It seems unlikely, with Rainn Wilson the popular favorite. Oscar Nuñez doesn't discredit the idea, though. Anything is possible in the world of the The Office, and stranger things have happened. As we head towards the Season 7 premier of Nepotism, it seems that anything can happen between now and next year.

We recently caught up with Oscar to chat about the importance of The Office's upcoming season, as well as his thoughts on the soon to be released Office: Season Six [5 Discs] DVD and Blu-ray set that hits stores on September 7th. Here is our conversation:

What is the likelihood that Season 7 of The Office is going to push us all towards seeing Oscar in the Boss' chair?

Oscar Nuñez: (Laughs) I don't think that is going to happen. I would like it to be someone who is already in place. But it has to be someone who is a big, dumb jerk. They would have to be an awful boss. But they would also have to be someone who has a lot of heart. Someone that is vulnerable. I personally think that Oscar would be too boring. I would personally love to see David Koechner or Melora Hardin take over.

We've heard a lot of names kicked around, but I think this is the first time that I've heard Dave mentioned for the role. Is that a possibility?

Oscar Nuñez: Hmm? I don't know. It's certainly not up to me. But those are my two picks. Whoever they pick, I think it's going to be great. But personally? My picks would be either Melora Hardin or David Koechner.

Now, you say you want to see someone with a touch of heart. Thus far, I don't think we've ever seen Koechner's Todd Parker show much heart on this series. He's hilariously crude, though!

Oscar Nuñez: I don't think he has shown heart, but it would be so much fun to discover that. I don't think that Melora's shown much heart, either. God, she is just awful. But she is beautiful. And when a beautiful woman cries, your heart just melts. Either one of those guys would be great.

I am assuming that you guys have already shot the season premier?

Oscar Nuñez: I think we've shot a total of three or four episodes thus far. In regards to what is going to happen in these upcoming episodes? It's the same thing. We're just there. People are going to come and go. Timothy Olyphant? We just shot a couple of episodes with him. But it's going to be the same dynamic. Nothing different. So far, the first four scripts that we've shot have been hilarious. I cannot wait for it to premier.

Its interesting to me that Timothy Olyphant would be on this show. Especially with the ongoing debate that he's the "Clint Eastwood" of this generation. What, exactly, is he bringing to your show that we've never seen before? He certainly is different than a lot of the guest starring comedians we've seen in recent years.

Oscar Nuñez: He is just a great actor. The writing is funny, and the situations are funny. All you need is that one great actor, which Timothy is. It is going to be a lot of fun. I don't know how much about his character I can tell you. I know he has a lot of interaction with Micheal. He is going to be on more than one episode. And he's not carrying a weapon.

He's not possibly carrying the boss card? His own series on FX, Justified, is such a hit. There is no way he'd be doing both?

Oscar Nuñez: I don't think he's there to replace Michael Scott by any means. He's just coming in for a couple of episodes.

Looking back at the Season Six DVD collection, what are your most proud moments?

Oscar Nuñez: My gosh, its all a blur. I don't even know. I don't even remember season 6. I remember the shows that we are shooting now. The ones we've shot so far. But let me think back on last season. What happened?

Jim and Pam's marriage was obviously a big part of last year. And to make the season even crazier, you also had the birth of their baby...

Oscar Nuñez: Yeah, the wedding was a fun episode. And the baby. The wedding was so awesome. It was really nice. Those were great episodes.

When the show is such a blur, do you ever find yourself engrossed in the reruns when you accidentally come across them late at night? Is it almost like seeing them for the first time?

Oscar Nuñez: Yes! I won't even remember ever having shot it. I am not in all of the scenes. If I am not in a scene, I am not there. So, I'll be like, "Oh, look at that! Look at those funny people!"

On that note, how do they divvy up and decide what scenes you will be apart of? How is screen time allotted?

Oscar Nuñez: The writers just write the episode. It doesn't ever do any good to complain. We get the script and we read it. There are a lot of us. I think there are thirty cast members. I'm not sure how many, but it is a lot. It just happens the way it happens. They never think, "This guy needs more lines. Or, that guy needs more to do." They don't do things like that. They simply write the story.

Even so, a lot of the secondary players are prominently featured in the Webisodes. Are you glad that those are there, allowing you an opportunity to further push your character and develop him? That we get to see certain aspects of his life the series simply wouldn't allow for because of time?

Oscar Nuñez: Those are fun. Any time you get to work, whether it's a Webisode, or an episode, is great. I know the fans love it. They also love hearing about the behind the scenes gossip. But nothing is more unfunny than talking about funny. You know? It's just a process, whether it's a Webisode or an episode. You have this wonderful chocolate milkshake. Its like, "Why did you make it? Where did you get the milk? Where did you get the cow?" for us, its not as much fun to talk about it as it is to listen to it from the other side. You don't realize that until you are doing it. I remember watching Seinfeld and Cheers. And I thought, that must be so much fun. They were the most beloved shows on the air. Now I am on one of those shows that people really love. But it doesn't sink in. Not until someone says, "I love your show! I have been watching it for years." They act like they've known you for years. But its like a whirlwind that you've been caught up in.

Do you know what we might see in terms of the new, upcoming Webisodes? These have been as popular as the show itself.

Oscar Nuñez: I think I will be involved with the next run, but I don't know what they are going to be about just yet.

Will fans get to see the most recent ones on this upcoming DVD set?

Oscar Nuñez: I haven't seen the DVD set yet. I don't know if those are being included. That is a good question. They should be, I guess. But I don't know.

Going back to season 7, do you know what they have planned for Oscar?

Oscar Nuñez: Again, I have no idea. As we are talking, they are writing the very next episode. They do not discuss it with us. They don't show us anything. Its like being on Lost. You have twenty-four actors asking, "What is going to happen?" The writers don't even know. They have no idea from show to show. They are making it up. There is no over-all arc, or anything. We come in, and we have no clue. I can't tell you what is coming down the pike. I just know from experience that it's going to be funny. We trust our writers. As far as story? We have no idea.

Out of curiosity, because I have been a fan since the show came on the air, how do you guys occupy your time when you are asked to be in front of the camera, but lingering around in the background, not necessarily involved in the action that may be taking place? Do you have any specific rituals? Are you staring at your computer screen, rehearsing your lines?

Oscar Nuñez: Some solitaire. Some Youtube. A lot of the cast does a lot of emailing back and forth. Some people do work. Others are watching videos. Some are just hanging out. It's like that. Its almost like you are at home on your home computer. It's a lot about catching up on the news. That's what I do. It's kind of cool. Never, never Fox News. But everything else? Yes.

One last question, with Steve Carell leaving the show this season, there is a lot of speculation that we might finally see David Brent making a guest appearance. Can you comment on that?

Oscar Nuñez: Who is that? David Brent? Who is he? I don't know who that is.

Ricky Gervais!

Oscar Nuñez: Oh, uh? You know what? I heard those rumors, too. Maybe! But I don't know who that is. So, I have no idea.

September 2nd, 2010

Despite the high price tag, a highly-anticipated TV DVD set topped all other new releases last week with Lost: The Complete Sixth Season debuting as the top-selling DVD and Blu-ray release, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Only one feature film made a mark on the home video charts this week, with The Back-up Plan taking the second spot on the DVD sales charts, for the week ending August 29. The Jennifer Lopez comedy sold just 75% of the units that Lost: The Complete Sixth Season, even though it had a significantly lower price tag. It was said that Lost: The Complete Sixth Season cost about three times as more as a standard DVD title. Two more TV DVD sets fared well on the charts as well, with NCIS: The Seventh Season taking fourth place on the DVD sales charts and The Simpsons: The Thirteenth Season finishing in seventh place in DVD sales.

Lost: The Complete Sixth Season also topped the Blu-ray sales charts and, even though it cost a whopping $279.99 SRP, Lost: The Complete Series 36-disc Blu-ray set took second place on the Blu-ray sales charts. It was said that 20% of both these Lost sets were sold in the BD format.
