Last week, we reported that Michael J. Bassett (Deathwatch) had signed on to write and direct Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, and now the director has a bit more to say about the project, via his Blog:
Finally, it's been announced and I can say officially what I've been eager to share with you all for a little while now; I've written and am going to be directing the new Silent Hill movie.
I love the games and was a huge admirer of the first film. Especially how Christophe Gans and his team managed to capture the look and feel of the world. I say, if it ain't broke don't fix it, so I'm bringing back as many of that core creative team as I can - but I'm probably going to bring just a little more darkness and fear into the mix as well. I love the complex mythology and psychological twists that Konami created so will do my best honour that aspect too.
I'm determined to deliver a film that builds on the qualities of the first film and draws on the best aspects of the games whilst giving the audience more nuanced characters, a compelling story and introducing some terrifying new monsters (as well as bringing back a few favourites) and, most important of all... just scaring the shit out of everyone.
The sequel follows Heather Mason, along with her father, who have been on the run - always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't full understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.
Silent Hill: Revelation 3D is based on the Konami video game franchise and is scheduled to shoot this year in Toronto.
Silent Hill: Revelation 3D comes to theaters in 2011. The film is directed by Michael J. Bassett.

In 140 AD, two men - master and slave - venture beyond the edge of the known world on a dangerous and obsessive quest that will push them beyond the boundaries of loyalty and betrayal, friendship and hatred, deceit and heroism...The Roman epic adventure The Eagle stars Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell and is directed by Academy Award winner Kevin Macdonald. 20 years earlier, Rome's 5,000-strong Ninth Legion, under the command of Flavius Aquila, marched north carrying their treasured golden Eagle emblem. They never returned; Legion and Eagle simply vanished into the mists. Hearing a rumor that the Eagle has been seen in a tribal temple in the far north, Flavius' son Marcus (Tatum), determined to restore the tarnished reputation of his father, is galvanized into action. Accompanied only by his slave Esca (Bell), Marcus sets out into the vast and dangerous highlands of Scotland - to confront its savage tribes, make peace with his father's memory, and retrieve the hallowed Eagle. Along the way Marcus realizes that the mystery of his father's disappearance may well be linked to the secret of his own slave's identity and loyalty - a secret all the more pressing when the two come face-to-face with the warriors of the fearsome Seal Prince (Tahar Rahim).
The Eagle comes to theaters February 25th, 2011 and stars Channing Tatum, Mark Strong, Jamie Bell, Donald Sutherland, Denis O'Hare, Douglas Henshall, Paul Ritter, Ben O'Brien. The film is directed by Kevin Macdonald.

Iron Man 2 and Cowboys and Aliens director Jon Favreau may be stepping outside the comic book genre for a bit with Magic Kingdom. Deadline reports that he is in talks to direct this new Disney project .
We first told you about the movie back in September, with Disney developing from a script by Battlestar Galactica creator Ronald D. Moore. If Jon Favreau signs on, another writer will be hired to further develop the movie with the director.
However, it doesn't seem that Magic Kingdom will be a fast-tracked project standing in the way of future comic book movies for Favreau. He will be signing a development deal with Disney for Magic Kingdom, which will allow that project to remain on the back burner while Jon finishes up Cowboys and Aliens, and it will even allow him time to direct Iron Man 3.
It wasn't clear when Magic Kingdom would go into production, although it could be quite a few years before this project is ready to go before cameras.

Walking with Dinosaurs will use live-action footage of scenery and CGI creatures to create an intimate and engaging 3D adventure for the entire family, transporting audiences to a breathtaking prehistoric world when dinosaurs ruled the Earth.
The big budget production is co-directed by Neil Nightingale and Pierre de Lespinois, and written by John Collee (Happy Feet).
In addition to U.S. distribution rights, Fox picked up rights in a number of key international markets, including the U.K., France, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Italy, Latin America and others. Reliance subsidiary IM Global has, since the film's launch at AFM last week, now sold out worldwide rights with other key territory buyers including Constantin (Germany), Alliance (Canada), Aurum (Spain) and Dutch Filmworks (Benelux).

Said Emma Watts: "Walking with Dinosaurs has been a huge success in the live tour and on TV and the franchise is perfect for a big screen event, 3D adaptation. We love it!"
Said Marcus Arthur: "I am thrilled that Twentieth Century Fox will be bringing Walking with Dinosaurs 3D to audiences the world over. I can't wait to astound everyone with Walking with Dinosaurs 3D on the big screen."

Spider-Man to Introduce Peter Parker's Biological Parents

The Spider-Man origin story is one we've all heard told too many times, in many different types of media. It is as ingrained in our brains as the necessity to eat and sleep, having been sold through in many different comic books, several different forms of animation, old Saturday night movies from the 70s, and even on The Electric Company. Sam Raimi created the perfect Spider-Man origin story with his 2002 movie. It's one tale, frankly, that doesn't need to be told again. At least, not this soon. Yet, that isn't stopping Sony or director Marc Webb from heading back to this familiar stomping ground with their as-yet Untitled Spider-Man Reboot (known in production circles as Spider-Man 2.0.
Once thought to kick-off with Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) already empowered with super human spider-strength, Spider-Man 2.0 will once again be retelling the story of how Parker came to be the superhero we all know and love today. Though, Marc Webb and his writing team are taking a slightly different approach by introducing, for the first time on film, Peter's biological parents Richard and Mary into the cinematic mythology.
In October, we reported that Sony was holding a casting call in search of a boy between the ages of 4 and 6 to play a young Peter Parker. What's Playing has now revealed that we will be seeing this young Peter with his parents, who, according to official Marvel lore, were government spies who died in a plane crash when Peter was still an infant. According to The Untold Tales of Spider-Man, Richard and Mary were both agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. Which, as you know, is headed by Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury in the upcoming The Avengers movie.
It is unclear if Richard and Mary Parker's ties to the government will play into the storyline of Spider-Man 2.0, or how that information will come to affect Parker's transformation into Spider-Man. It is unlikely Spider-Man 2.0 will tie into the storyline of The Avengers, as one is being release by Sony and the other is being released by rival studio Disney. It may hint at that, though, as both are of course Marvel Studio properties.
While Sony was originally looking to cast a boy between the ages of 4 and 6, they have now changed their search to that of a boy between the ages of 6 and 9. It is speculated that audiences will finally learn how Peter came to be in the protective services of Aunt May (Sally Field) and Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen).
There is no word on who will be playing Peter Parker's biological parents. But if Sony and Marc Webb want to make fans happy, they'll cast Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, as these parental characters will most likely be nothing more than cameos. Seeing these two actors in this remake/reboot would certainly make us happy. How about you?
Untitled Spider-Man Reboot comes to theaters July 3rd, 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

The actor who portrays Ray in the alien invasion movie takes us inside the innovative creative process of The Strause Brothers' movie
Neil Hopkins is an actor that most hardcore fans of Lost will surely recognize. He portrayed Liam Pace, the rockstar, drug-addled brother of Dominic Monaghan's character Charlie on the hit ABC series. And he was featured on the seminal sci-fi show's finale back in May. Post-Lost has been good for Hopkins, as the actor has two new movies in post-production and a role in the upcoming alien-invasion thriller Skyline, which opens in theaters nationwide on November 12.
I recently had the chance to speak with Hopkins over the phone about Skyline, as well as a pilot he recently wrote, and several other projects he currently has on the horizon. Here's what Neil had to say:
I was actually invited down to Hydraulx about a month and a half ago, and I was amazed how they put this whole movie together in such a quick fashion. They said they wrote the script in November, were casting in December and started shooting in January. Can you talk about how this process came about for you?
Neil Hopkins: For me, I just went in and auditioned. It was just a regular audition and there was very little information about the project, just that it was top-secret. I think there was something about how it was in the vein of Cloverfield, or something like that. I went in and, I guess it was in early December. I just went into Hydraulx and read for (co-writer) Liam O'Donnell and I think it was Colin Strause. I just read for them and that was it. I read for the lead role, actually, which Eric Balfour plays. That was it and I heard they were interested in me and I didn't hear anything until January. They said they had this other role they wanted me to play, Ray, and I didn't have to read for it or anything. Next thing I know, I was shooting it. I didn't work on it for very long, but before we shot, they showed up with this reel and the whole cast sat down in this screening room. They showed this thing they had shot over Thanksgiving weekend at the apartment building in Marina del Ray where we ended up shooting at, Greg Strause's apartment. They shot, basically, the teaser and they added all the CGI to it and it was incredible. They put this together in a month and a half and we were just blown away. That got us all pumped because, doing CGI-type movies is difficult for actors because you don't know what you're looking at and you don't know what to react to, etc. So being able to see that trailer got us all pumped because we knew it was going to be super-cool and they weren't going to be cheesy special effects, they were going to be incredible. From there we just started shooting in either January or February and we finished in March. It was all a very quick process, which is extremely unusual.
The Strause Brothers were talking before about how they wanted to do this to free themselves from the studio process. Was it cool to be on a project like this where it's just those guys and their main people, as opposed to a few hundred people
Neil Hopkins: Oh, yeah. It was like night and day. From the casting process on through to the production, it was so much more personable and so much more fun. I've never been on a huge, big-budget movie, but I have a lot of friends that have and I know what it would feel like. Just from my work in television, you get notes from the network and notes from the studio, going through the screen-testing process, things are done rather inefficiently in Hollywood, from the top down. To get to work on a project that will be in contention with any big-budget movie, but was shot like a small type of film, it was a really refreshing experience. Even from a casting aspect, for a movie like that, a lot of times, you need to go back three or four times, this person needs approval, that person needs approval. With this movie, it was like, 'Yeah, I like this guy. Let's use him.' It was as simple as that. Being able to work on that level, in that simple and fun fashion, was really great.
Your character, Ray, is kind of the comic relief for this movie.
Neil Hopkins: I guess you could call me that, yeah. I play a guy who works in visual effects for Donald Faison's character. He's kind of this goofball and would-be womanizer, I guess, but doesn't really get what he wants. They say write what you know and all these people were somewhat based on the people they had known and had worked with. Ray was based on this guy, who I had never met and I don't know his name, but he was just a relentless womanizer. It was a fun character to play. It gave me a lot of leeway and I didn't have to get that serious. A lot of my TV parts are serious roles so it was fun to come in and play this goofball. He's a little bit of a scumbag with the women, but he's someone that I think people will find amusing. It was fun to get to work on a movie like that and add a humorous aspect to it. I mean, you can't take these alien movies all that seriously. I don't think this movie takes itself seriously, so that's one of the other things I like about it. It takes itself seriously to a degree that it has to, but it's not trying to be a social, political allegory. It's just a fun movie.
It was funny when we did the event at Hydraulx. Donald Faison, David Zayas, Brittany Daniel and Eric Balfour were there. When Donald Faison was asked to describe his character, he said he was playing Colin and Greg Strause. We didn't know he was playing a visual effects guy so it was funny how he framed that.
Neil Hopkins: Yeah. It was fun for them to see themselves reflected in that way and make a movie that was very visual-effects heavy and have it in the world of visual effects. I think that was a nod to how not super-serious they're trying to be with this movie and how it's about a kick-ass story and a great alien invasion, but not trying to take itself too seriously.
They shot in just that one building and we were told that they essentially wrote around the limitations of that building. What was that experience like to shoot in a singular location like that?
Neil Hopkins: Yeah, the writers, Liam O'Donnell and Joshua Cordes, who were really great and funny guys, had those limitations and I think that limitations are a good thing with any kind of art. There's also the perspective of what can we create and what cool effects can we create with the landscape that we're working with, etc. I feel that freed them up in a way. These guys just had everything blocked out and figured out and it was really impressive. You felt like you were in good hands because they knew exactly what they wanted.
They wouldn't say what their actual budget figure was, but we talked about how shocked people would be if they actually knew how much this movie cost, since it looks like such a big-budget movie. It will be interesting to see how people react to that.
Neil Hopkins: Yeah. I don't know what it will be with the marketing and everything like that. What we were told at the time was that it was a very low-budget film and, because they could do the special effects so expertly, they knew they could do it on such a low budget. I think, in a lot of ways, it's going to change movies, in that regard. Hopefully, if it does as well as I think it will do, it will show a lot of people in Hollywood that you don't necessarily need to spend $100 million to make a really convincing, special-effects-heavy movie.
I read that you wrote a TV pilot awhile back as well. Are you still trying to shop that around or is there anything happening with that?
Neil Hopkins: My writing partner and I wrote a pilot called Hit Factor. It's kind of an action-comedy. We actually ended up shooting a 22-minute version of the pilot. James Cromwell produced it and starred in it and my friend Sherwin directed it. That turned out really well and we took it to the New York Television Festival and we won Best Drama there. We've had a lot of meetings and the script itself has been in a lot of competitions. There was one for Ion Television where they were looking to make a series and we were in the finals of that. We've been really close on a lot of things, but it's a pretty out-there concept. We know it's going to find a home eventually, but someone is going to have to take a little bit of a risk on it. It's one of those things that we always have on the back burner and we're always getting out there, but we haven't connected the dots quite yet.
It seems like something you really do have to wait on, if the concept is that intriguing, instead of going the other way and altering it for network needs. It sounds like your way is probably the best way to go.
Neil Hopkins: Yeah. It has also worked really well for us as a writing sample because it's very flashy and catchy. Like I said, it's out there and it shows people, 'Hey, these guys can write.' Eventually, it'll find a home, especially with cable television expanding how it is, with all these different networks with original programming. There's just so much more room, so I feel that in the next couple of years we'll find a home for it. It's been a long process. Just to bring it back, it's so rare for something like Skyline, where they write the script in November and shoot it in the winter and by the following November, I guess it was a year turnaround when it hits theaters. It's so rare when that happens. So often, things get tied up for years and years and years. Big things like The Sopranos and Mad Men, these things were around for years before they were finally made. That's typically how it works, so it's refreshing to work on a project that comes full-circle in such a short span of time. As an actor, sometimes if you shoot a movie, it could be two or three years before you finally get to see it. You don't get a whole lot of fulfillment, in terms of seeing it actually completed, but with something like this, it's mind-boggling how quickly they turned it around. I'm really excited it's coming out this week.
Is there anything else that you're working on, either with acting or writing, that you can talk about?
Neil Hopkins: Yeah. I just shot a feature over the summer called Detour. I play an advertising exec who lives up in the mountains and he's driving to work and he gets caught in a mudslide in his Jeep Cherokee. The whole movie is my character trying to figure a way out of this situation. He's buried about 10 or 15 feet under mud. It's a script that a friend of mine, Will Dickerson, wrote about three years ago. He's very, very talented. We shot it on a shoestring budget this summer on the Red camera and it just looks amazing. We'll be finished completely by December. He entered it into Sundance so we're going to do the festival thing and I think it has a pretty good chance. Of any of the movies I've done, I'd say this has one of the best chances of getting distribution. It's a really solid, exciting and nerve-racking film, but also inspiring. It was a great role for me and I'm really looking forward to that coming out. I also did a comedy coming out called Losing Control. I play a completely different character in that. I've got a lot of different projects that will hopefully be coming out in the next year. With the business being the way it is, you just never know. Other than that, I've shot a few television guest-stars on a few different shows, so I'm just constantly plugging away, waiting for that next big thing.
Just to wrap up, what would you like to say to anyone who might be on the fence about Skyline, about why they should check it out in theaters on November 12?
Neil Hopkins: Oh, you've just got to see it. You can't judge a movie until you see it and I really think it's going to surprise a lot of people, in terms of how entertaining and exciting and how nerve-racking it is as a film. I think it's going to be a real crowd-pleaser. Just go check it out. You should never judge a movie before you see it. That's my message for the day.
Excellent. That's about all I have for you, Neil. Thanks so much for your time and best of luck with anything else you might have coming up in the future.
Neil Hopkins: All right. Thank you. I appreciate it.

MTV recently spoke with actress Rachel McAdams, who was promoting her upcoming comdy Morning Glory, and she said that she doesn't know quite yet if she will return for Sherlock Holmes 2.
We reported in September that Noomi Rapace is playing the female lead in Sherlock Holmes 2, and it seems that if Rachel McAdams does return, it will be in a much smaller capacity:
"It's kind of all still in the process. They're still doing script work, and we'll see. If I do, it won't be a very big thing. It's not a lead part."
Sherlock Holmes 2 has been filming for the past month in England. We showed you some photos from the set in October. Rachel McAdams portrayed the female lead, Irene Adler, in last year's previous Sherlock Holmes installment.
Sherlock Holmes 2 comes to theaters December 16th, 2011 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Noomi Rapace, Stephen Fry, Jared Harris. The film is directed by Guy Ritchie.

We'll be sure to keep you posted with any further details on Sherlock Holmes 2 as soon as more information comes in.

Deadline reports that an influx of talent, including Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton, are in talks for Moonrise Kingdom.
Wes Anderson is directing this latest project from a script he co-wrote with Roman Coppola. The story centers on a young couple in the 1960s who run away from their small New England town. The town's leaders are convinced the kids are missing and form a search party to find them.
Edward Norton will play a Boy Scout troop leader who brings his Scouts along on the search party. Bruce Willis is circling the role of the town's sherrif, who is also having an affair with the missing girl's mother, a role that Frances McDormand would play if she signs on. Bill Murray will play the girl's troubled father. It wasn't stated what role Tilda Swinton may have.
The movie will start shooting sometime next spring. The last time we reported on Moonrise Kingdom was back in September, which indicated that Wes Anderson was seeking out a 12-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy for the movie. It seems that these characters will be the runaway couple.

Green Lantern Trailer Description and Abin Sur Photo

A Comic Book Movie scooper has sent along the first photo of Abin Sur from Green Lantern, as well as a description of the upcoming trailer. Sources confirm this Abin Sur picture is from the set of the movie, so take a look at the photo below:
Here's the excerpt from Comic Book Movie's trailer description, along with some clarification from a user named "MrDCU." Be warned, if you want to wait until November 19 to see this trailer in theaters with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1, then read no further. If you just can't wait that long, read the trailer description below:
"They show Abin Sur crashing, then you see Hal Jordan standing over Abin, they made him look a little different than what we've seen in the comics and movies, instead of a mostly human shaped face, he seems to have these (for lack of a better description) what looks like curved horns pointing down from his jaw line. They're not horns but the best way I can describe it (MrDCU: What he is referring to is the almost elastic looking way Abin's Skin is if you have seen the ComicCon pictures you know what I mean). Then they show him with the ring. There's a scene with Hal and Carol in the locker room going back and forth a bit, Hal makes a comment about her helping him with his pants. There's a scene with him talking to Tom about him not having fear and his friend gives him a look and he goes "yeah I know". Another scene where Tom's sitting on a couch and Hal goes "Check this out" and he instantly changes into his costume. Tom goes "That's cool" Hal: "I know" Tom: "What do we do now?" Hal shrugging: "Go fight some bad guys". A scene where Hal makes a huge fist construct to right hook a bunch of bad guys. The construct looks solid with what seems like mist coming off of it, don't know if they're trying for an excess energy look..., There's also a scene where he's taken up to what looks like a ring in space that shoots him into hyperspace to Oa. It was a quick long shot of it, but that may be the way they are explaning what Abin Sur crashed in. They show Oa briefly. There's a shot of Hector looking normal, then there's also a quick shot of Hector with a bigger head.
MrDCU: I will explain some of the bits where the guy doesn't make sense. Abin Sur doesn't crash because of the hyperspace ring, he crashes because a Parallax possessed Krona attacks him when he is carrying the body of a dead Lantern (Sector 2015) to their home planet, which causes him to crash to Earth. Hal goes into hyperspace because of a fail safe in the rings where when he flies for the first time, he is automaically sent into hyperspace and to Oa for training."

Kristin Stewart Appearing Nude in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn
November 10th, 2010
As fans of Twilight grow more mature, so do the sequels based on this popular vampire romance novel series. The first in a two-part finale, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 is currently shooting in Brazil, and news has come forth from E! Online that Kristen Stewart will appear naked in the movie, giving the nearly always topless Taylor Lautner a run for his money.
Director Bill Condon is sticking fairly close to his source material in bringing Bella and Edward's Brazilian honeymoon to the big screen. There will be more sex than all three past Twilight movies combined, as the pair consummate their marriage before the camera. Condon will keep this final chapter within the boundaries of its PG-13 rating, but the current shooting script is reportedly pushing those boundaries, with Stewart set to strip way down to nothing at all.
Here is what a source close to the upcoming sequel had to say:
"The script actually has Kristen practically naked in it, a lot."
"Practically" means we won't be seeing any parts of her body that wouldn't make it past the MPAA in earning that PG-13. Though, as E! Online reports, Condon is the type of director who likes to keep it real, and he plans to bring a sense of authenticity to the lovemaking that will be on display in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 comes to theaters November 18th, 2011 and stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Ashley Greene, Anna Kendrick, Jackson Rathbone, Nikki Reed, Peter Facinelli. The film is directed by Bill Condon.
