Män som hatar kvinnor Polish Movie Review :

The music lends a threatening aspect to the opening scene, where we in slow close ups – on and off deliberately out of focus – get to follow the opening of a package. Inside the package, post marked in Hong Kong, is a framed plant. The camera starts to move backwards, taking in more of the room and revealing Sven-Bertil Taube as the opener of the package. He holds the frame in his hands, lowers his head and slowly starts to cry.

Niels Arden Oplevs Män som hatar kvinnor is based on the first of Stieg Larssons three bestselling novels, meaning of course that it is basically guaranteed large box office numbers – but the expectations will probably match those numbers. Weatherthe film manages to live up to these expectations I cannot say – seeing as I am one of the probably only eight people who has not read Stieg Larssons books. But as a piece of cinema, completely removed from its literary origins, it definitely leaves an impression!
The music mentioned above, written by Peter Fuchs, is the first thing to register in the mind as something interesting… Something that make everything feel very serious. The impending-doom-score composed by Howard Shore, for David Finchers Se7en, springs to mind – and this only a few seconds intothe film.

IPC Sec 300 is the action movie which tells about how the law helps for the people who are facing the problems. Vijay Raghavendra plays the role of Advocate.Watchonline Movie Trailer free Indian film IPC Section 300 Kannada Mysowood film. The film Directed by Shashikanth .

IPC Section 300 Kannada Film Review :

The clever handling of a captivating subject by debutant director Shashikanth earns him kudos. Had he given up songs and inconsequential comedy the film would have risen to the Hollywood standards to some extent. The opening of the film the unveiling of murder in the early stage of the film and proving what is truth is false indicates director Shashikanth sat tight on the subject. The glory is his style and narration is very new to the Kannada cinema audience.

The luscious Sheela (Suman Ranganath) finds Sharan (Srujan Lokesh) a cop to satiate her hunger. She keeps her secret affair for some time but her husband Mallik (Devaraj) a business tycoon discover through a private detective the moments of his wife. On one fine day Mallik question his wife on her connections and shoots her to a brutal injury. It is Sharan a cop who come to arrest Mallik. Mallik admits that he shot his wife and put behind the bars. When the case of Mallik comes up in the court without the help of anyone Mallik argues his own case. Incidentally the cop Sharan is gravely insulted in front of everyone in the court hall. Losing his job Sharan tries to maintain a separate route to teach a lesson to Mallik. It is the public prosecutor Vijay (Vijay Raghavendra) gets in to every detail and stops Sharan from clumsy decisions.
A very smart Mallik has not left any clue that he has used his pistol to shoot his wife. The arguments of public prosecutor fails and the judge passes an order that Mallik is innocent despite of he agreeing to cop that he shot his wife. Sheela in coma breathe her last in the hospital and it is a plus point for Mallik. How outside the purview of court Vijay proves that Mallik is the culprit and arrest him in ‘IPC Section 300’ is interesting part ofthe film.

Grand looking Devaraj has done a fine job. It is a long time that the Kannada audience has seen Devaraj in such a powerful role. Suman Ranganath is very attractive and in a scene when Srujan Lokesh drops the ice blocks on her it is such a hot moment for the viewers. Vijay Raghavendra although defeated till the end wins through a brainy work. Srujan Lokesh is apt for the role. Priyanka has nothing much to explore in this film.
Devaraj gives an extraordinary performance. Vijaya Raghavendra is equally good. Suman Ranganath and Srujan are superb. Yathiraj shines. Camerawork by Niranjan Babu is good as is Veera Samarth's music.

The story revolves around Mallik (Devaraj), an architect, married to Sheela (Suman Ranganath). Since a workaholic Mallik fails to fullfil Sheela's needs, she turns to Sharan (Srujan Lokesh), a special investigation officer. When Mallik comes to know of their affair, he shoots at Sheela who escapes, but succumbs to injuries later.
The responsibility of investigating the case falls on Viji (Vijaya Raghavendra), a lawyer, and Sharan, who is shocked to see his lovershot at by her husband. To their surprise, they find the bullets and the gun from which Sheela was shot at don't match. Mallik, who was in jail, is released, for want of evidence. But there is curious turn to the story. What is it?

Bunny and the Bull English Film Synopsis :

Stephen Farnaby hasn't been outside in months and when he finds his mind hurtling back to the disastrous trek around Europe he undertook with his friend Bunny, a catalog of adventures unfurl. Stephen's flat becomes the springboard for an extraordinary odyssey through a land made up of snapshots and souvenir replica landmarks within his imagination.

Bunny and the Bull Hollywood Movie Review :

But back to that lobster for a moment: it doesn't take an armchair psychologist to drum up a corollary between the surreal and often fraught comedy of Bunny, and The Boosh, and that traumatic childhood incident.

The plot of Bunny And The Bull does indeed deal with how painful memories can adversely affect our present outlook. If King can't go near shellfish again, his paranoid, agoraphobic creation Stephen 'Bull' Turnbull (played by Edward Hogg) can't seem to leave his Kings Cross flat for fear of something awful happening. This is a man so terrified of the unexpected, and of that which he cannot control, he has turned his dismal flat into a virtual mausoleum, stacking his own pee in jars, "and noting its PH".
The reasons behind his self-incarceration are soon revealed: an ultimately doomed European road trip taken with his toxic best friend Bunny (Simon Farnaby). Initially taking in such genuine museums as The German Museum of Cutlery and the National Shoe Museum of Poland (your laconic tour guide, one Richard Ayoade), Bunny decides his lovesick friend requires more stimulating adventures, and soon they're picking up a sexy Spanish waitress Eloisa (Verónica Echegui), stealing stuffed bears and encountering a barking mad Hungarian tramp called Atilla (Julian Barratt), who much prefers to drink his dog's milk directly from the dog.

Given the presence of the latter, and of a pleasingly restrained Noel Fielding who also cameos here as a booze-sodden matador, the real shocker is that this isn't in fact 'Boosh: The Movie' (which at time of writing, is apparently in the works). This, despite featuring - and apparently in all coincidence - a pale, long-haired man and a hairy Yorkshireman pottering through a surreal hyperverse. (If this were made in the 1960s, Frank Zappa and 'Monkees' creator Bob Rafelson would surely be exec-producing.) Instead, this movie utterly belongs to Hogg and Farnaby, who act out an anarchic and surprisingly touching meditation on male friendship, impotent bravado, and grief. Perhaps unsurprisingly, King's a huge fan of Bruce Robinson's classic, and there are various allusions throughout ("Sure I can't tempt you with one last little drink?" asks Bunny as the mismatched pair bid their farewells).
Making the association explicit, the producers have even dubbed this one "Withnail & I for the mentally ill" - as if the latter weren't also conceived in the white heat of a near-nervous collapse. At any rate, as with Withnail, and the comedy of duo Oram and Meeten, there's deeper stuff going here on than just a bunch of stoner-style antics.

Ricky French Film Review :

We first reported on the teaser back in December and since then Berlinale has announced that Ricky would be playing in competition, and I have to say I'm pretty intrigued by this whole experiment even though this trailer makes this look like a family drama with a bit of comedy.. I'll still watch it! I mean, the kid has friggin wings!
When Katie, an ordinary woman meets Paco, an ordinary man, something magical and miraculous happens: they fall in love. Out of their love comes an extraordinary baby : RICKY.
I realize that some Ozon fans are disappointed by the outcome of this project, as can be seen by another review here on IMDb also. I do understand that some might feel that Ozon should have better stick to what he was doing. But I think he did a very good job here. Behind all the "normality" of the movie, there lies an ambiguity. The movie deals with loss or better how people react to loss.

Loss of material things, emotional loss and of course other losses too. That's what I felt watching it, but I can also tell, that some people might have gotten a completely different vibe from the movie. And that is what makes it special. It might not be his best movie (I haven't watched all his movies), but it is pretty good. Especially since it disguises itself as normal movie. well as normal as an Ozon movie can be of course.

Everybody's Fine English Reviews :

Several months ago while Quentin Tarantino promoted Inglourious Basterds, he mentioned that he might only make a few more films before he retires because, as he said, he didn't want to make "old man" movies. If anyone is unclear as to precisely what an "old man"movie is, they need look no further than Everybody's Fine, Robert De Niro's latest film, about a father trying to reconnect with his adult children after the death of his wife.

De Niro, once an indisputable fount of actorly integrity and hard work, has in recent years played a series of characters that either demanded little of his oft-discussed commitment, or exploited his persona as an intimidating figure both on and off screen. And while the character he plays here indicates a return to the kind of character work that made him a screen icon, there's no denying thatthe film itself is the cinematic equivalent of career achievement award, which is why Everybody's Fine is well-done and effective but too treacly to be truly powerful.

Based on the 1990 Italian film by director Giuseppe Tornatore (who also did Cinema Paradiso), Everybody's Fine follows Frank (De Niro), a septuagenarian retiree who lives alone in his family home after the death of his wife several months ago. When all four of his children bail out on a reunion weekend, Frank decides to go and visit them instead, starting with his youngest child David, who isn't at home. Travelling by train and bus because of a heart condition, Frank then surprises Amy (Kate Beckinsale) before going on to see Robert (Sam Rockwell) and Rosie (Drew Barrymore). Despite Frank's best efforts to make nice, he soon discovers that his children are harboring various secrets from him, eventually leading him to reconsider his role in their lives, and his responsibility in making them the people that they are now.

Suffice it to say that dysfunctional families are the stock and trade of contemporary dramedies, but few of them are able to operate with any subtlety, and most are as broadly reassuring as a get-well card. Director Kirk Jones, who previously helmed Waking Ned Devine, has a particularly light touch rendering the relationships between Frank and his kids, but unfortunately their problems have become boilerplate drama by now, which is why their examination and resolution feels quite so clichéd. That said, Frank is by no means a monster; in fact, he's quite a supportive old softie. But De Niro seeds him with a kind of impatient expectation of success that is immediately recognizable to any person who's ever felt like they occasionally wanted their parents to be a little less supportive.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - There isn't much that's fine in "Everybody's Fine," an embarrassing misfire for Kirk Jones, who once gave us the exhilarating comedy "Waking Ned Devine," and for Miramax, a storied company now reduced to little more than a film library. Despite a cloyingly sentimental story that rings false in every moment, the production did attract a substantial cast headed byRobert De Niro. It's not going to help though when Disney's downsized specialty unit releases the film December 4.

Up in the Air Hollywood Movie Review :

I was lucky enough to catch George Clooney's "Up in the Air" at the Toronto Film Festival and was very impressed with the quality of this movie in both acting and story. It is emotional, funny and is actually better than Jason Reitman's past works like "Juno" and "Thank You For Smoking."

In "Up in the Air," Clooney plays a human resources executive whose only joy in life comes from the prospect of notching his ten millionth frequent-flyer mile, a goal he pursues with zeal as the rest of his life falls apart because he is constantlyon the road.

The Warrior and the Wolf: Mandarin Movie Review

It's a struggle to summarise exactly what happens in the first half hour of Tian Zhuangzhuang's THE WARRIOR AND THE WOLF as it largely resembles a cobbled together mass of random sequences and unrelated footage from a frenzied shoot in the Mongolian wilderness, haphazardly lap dissolved back and forth into each other in a struggle to form a coherent narrative.

Odagiri Jo plays Lu, a mountain-dwelling shepherd, recruited into the Imperial Army, during China's epic Warring States Period. Along with many other eligible males from the area, Lu is allocated weaponry and armour, still warm and sticky from the blood of its previous owners, and immediately thrown into battle against local nomadic tribesmen, with minimal training or explanation. Lu is seen attempting to desert and stubbornly refusing to kill anybody, yet after a few words and a forceful hand from his commanding officer, General Zhang (Tou Chunghua), Lu is suddenly slaying people left and right, glaring wild-eyed into bonfires and howling demonically at the moon. At one point he even rescues Zhang from a hostage situation, although, like many key incidents, much of this information is gleaned solely from onscreen captions, which appear sporadically to explain what itisexactly we'relooking at onscreen.
The opening act is totally disorientating, and it is never entirely clear whether Lu is now leading his own squad of soldiers or living an idyllic existence on a lush hillside, rearing a young wolf cub. It appears at various stages that both of these are true, until a blizzard forces Lu and his troops to hole up in a cursed, and seemingly deserted village. The coming of the snow thankfully forces Lu's men - and the film - to stand their ground and regroup.
No sooner has Lu got the fire going to warm his mitts, does Maggie Qemerge, literally out of the ground, clad only in a furry toga. After trying to explain that her people are cursed, the battle weary Lu wastes no time in ravaging her. The woman repeatedly warns Lu that copulating with an outsider will invoke the curse and affect him as well as her. But Lu seems not to care and as time goes on, his persistent raping eventually subsides into consensual lovemaking and a fatalistic love affair blossoms between them.
Certainly there are moral questions to be raised about Tian's representation of this relationship. Flippant critics may take issue with the fact that Maggie Q is basically raped until she loves it, but in her defence, she was a deeply scarred individual way before Lu arrived on the scene and is victim of a supernatural burden that might well hamper her chances of a normal relationship in the future.
I never expected the appearance of Maggie Q to actually make a film better, but here she does and not only due to her persistent near-nakedness, welcome though it is. The film's middle hour, set almost entirely within the confines of her snowbound shack, is easily the strongest section of the film. The relationship between Luand the girl is primal, feral and yet desperately passionate. Tian develops genuine intrigue as to the fate of these doomed lovers and the anticipation grows in hope of a climactic, otherworldly finale. The final act, however, loses its footing once more. After a fantastic sequence involving a sandstorm and hundreds of spectral wolves, the film jumps ahead five years, clumsily reintroducing characters vaguely recognizable from Act One for a largely meaningless final chapter, before segueing into an ending borrowed wholesale from Mike Nichols' WOLF.
But, despite its grand failures in storytelling, THE WARRIOR AND THE WOLF is staggeringly beautiful to look at and never a chore to watch. Almost every moment spent outside the lovers' retreat delivers gorgeous mountain vistas, epic wastelands or weather-ravaged battlegrounds and it is easy to see whyTian insisted on throwing it all up on screen, regardless of how it worked as a narrative. The film also has a mercifully tight running time, helping it hold the attention, despite failing to fully entertain. The ridiculously good-looking stars don't hurt the production either. Odagiri Jo is insanely talented and commands the screen with precious little effort.
Despite his plight being hard to follow on occasion, his charismatic performance demands your sympathy throughout.Maggie Q here finds a role that plays to her strengths of basically being hot and playing the enigmatic seductress. It is entirely believable how Lu is drawn in by her animalistic sexuality despite knowing the dangers involved. Once again, however, it must be noted that both leads have been clumsily dubbed into Mandarin, further fuelling a thousand ongoing debates the world over.
So, in the end THE WARRIOR AND THE WOLF is a failure, but a beautiful one rife with segments of genuinely interesting material. Perhaps a longer cut exists somewhere and will emerge at some later stage, allowingthe first Act the room to breathe that it certainly needs. As it stands, however, it is nothing more than an intriguing middle act, bookended by rambling nonsense

Katalin Varga: Romanian Movie PReview;;

The award-winning movie Katalin Varga was said below to have been filmed in Hungary. In reality it was filmed near the heart of Romania, in the Székely area of Transylvania (the fact that many inhabitants of the area in question are of Hungarian ancestry often gives rise to confusion). The actor playingVarga's husband is László Mátray, not Florin Vidamski.
Peter Strickland is the director who was this year's leftfield discovery at the Berlin film festival: an auteur from the UK who'd sprung, confident and fully formed, out of nowhere. Like Thomas Clay with his enigmatic Thai picture Soi Cowboy, he had succeeded in making a bold and accomplished film outside this country (his debut, in fact) and entirely outside the public-subsidy radar. With heroic effort and a family legacy,Strickland had climbed the treacherous peak of independent movie-making, and he hadn't had so much as a brass farthing from the UK Film Council. It leaves our film establishment to ponder the question of whether it should therefore be embarrassed by or proud of a British director who is independent in the truest sense.

Katalin Varga: Romanian Movie Review;;

Strickland's film is intriguing: a slow-moving, insistently gripping, faintly Dostoyevskian tale of violence and retribution set in the swooningly photographed Romanian countryside. It's the sort of film that looks as if it is going to drift dreamily away in an arthouse torpor; in fact, it comes to a satisfying narrative crunch. There is actual suspense, of a sort. It's a woozy noir, with a hint of the supernatural.

Hilda Péter plays Katalin Varga, a young woman in a remote village with a small son; she is seen in a state of some distress. Evidently her husband (Laszlo Matray) has "found out". But found out what? He angrily denounces her as a "whore" and says that she should leave, and take her son with her. Katalin and 10-year-old Orbán (Norbert Tankó) make their desolate journey on a horse-drawn wagon, and their lonely departure makes a melancholy, almost Hardyesque spectacle, photographed in long-shot in rolling hills and fields that have clearly not changed in centuries, in which mobile phones are the only clue to the period. She asks some teenage girls the way to a village called Jadzereda, and thanks them for the directions. "Don't mention it," one replies derisively. "Never thank anyone who leads you to Jadzereda." Later, staying the night in a grim cowshed, Katalin explains to the boy why she is so depressed: "I just miss my husband, that's all." The reply leaves Orbán more distressed than ever: "You mean Papa don't you? Why didn't you call him Papa?"

Katalin's exposure triggers in her a need to conclude some unfinished business. During her travels to fiercely unwelcoming rural communities, she tracks down an unpleasant man called Gergely (Roberto Giacomello) and then another man called Antal (Tibor Pálffy). She knows precisely who they are – but they appearto have only the haziest recollection of her. At all events, these encounters turn the story into a chase movie in which Katalin is both hunter and hunted.

It is when Katalin and young Orbán are given hospitality from Antal and his charming wife Etelka (Melinda Kántor) that Strickland's weird, cold, unexpected tension exerts its grip. Etelka strikes up an intimate friendship with Katalin and confesses to her that she has been unableto have children with her husband, and wonders whose fault it is. Katalin knows the answer, for reasons that she discloses in a bizarre scene in which she is taken boating by the couple, and in an extraordinary monologue, on the edge of hallucination, recalls the awful thing done to her 10 years earlier in a nearby forest.
Apart from the literary influences, Strickland must surely have taken something from the severe and austere cinema of Béla Tarr, whose films move at a glacial pace, but which, weirdly, have plots which could be thrillers and noirs. The rackety bars here are the location for much central European-style hillbilly-sinister dancing, promising a violent denouement in the darkness outside. It is very like Tarr, and the suspicious farmer who first lets Katalin and Orbán stay overnight is Tarr-ed with that brush. With his neck brace and his moment of semi-nudity in a pair of horribly tiny underpants, he is scary and funny – but mostly scary.

Strickland's film-making steers away from Tarr's tendencies towards indulgence and conceit, however. He keeps the storylines reasonably taut and his characters are capable of normal human smiling. Péter's performance is not catatonic-deadpan in the cliched, high arthouse style: she can be the harassed refugee, or the pained single mother, or the seducer, and her face seems to change radically in each incarnation, as if in the grip of the classic abuse-victim's multiple personality disorder. It's the kind of story that could be happening in the city, not the country, on concrete pavements and in the glare of neon rather than sylvan hillsides and golden sunsets. This is a film that glowsfrom the inside with its own awful secret.

The Road hollywood Movie Review

The Road is an upcoming film directed by John Hillcoat and written by Joe Penhall. Based on the 2006 novel of the same name by Cormac McCarthy, author of No Country for Old Men. The film stars Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee as a father and his son in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Filming took place in Pennsylvania, Louisiana, and Oregon. The film is scheduled to be released on November 25, 2009, and on January 4th 2010 in UK cinemas[1].[2]
The Road follows the premise from the book of the same name. An unnamed father (Mortensen) and his young son (Smit-McPhee) struggle to survive after an unspecified apocalypse and make their way toward the coast for possible food, shelter, safety, or to potentially find other survivors of the cataclysmic events. Along the way, they encounter grave struggles and hardships across the barren landscapes, with scarce shelter and resources available to them, and having to avoid bands of cannibals and other desperate gangs looking to pillage valuables and food. Various flashback sequences occur where the Man remembers events prior to the catastrophe, many involving his deceased wife, who has a much more expanded role in the film than in the original book.

Cast * Viggo Mortensen as the Man.[3] Mortensen explained the interaction of the father with his son, "They’re on this difficult journey, and the father is basically learningfrom the son."[4]
* Kodi Smit-McPhee as the Boy.[5] At the London Film Festival, Mortensen explained that Smit-McPhee was one of four finalists for the part, all of whom then read with him. Smit-McPhee was unanimously chosen, in particular because he seemed youthful, innocent and yet wise beyond his years.
* Charlize Theron as the Wife, who appears in flashback. Theron joined the film because she was a fan of the book and had previously worked with producer Nick Wechsler on the 2000 film The Yards.[6] The character will have a larger role in the film than she did in the book. Hillcoat said of the expanded role, "I think it's fine to depart from the
Filmmakers sought to implement bleak scenery as the backdrop of post-apocalyptic America for the characters' journey
In November 2006, producer Nick Wechsler used independent financing to acquire film rights to adapt the 2006 novel The Road by Cormac McCarthy. When Wechsler had watched John Hillcoat's 2005 film The Proposition after reading The Road, the producer decided to pursue Hillcoat to direct the film adaptation. Wechsler described Hillcoat's style: "There was something beautiful in the way John captured the stark primitive humanity of the West in thatmovie ."[8] In April 2007, Joe Penhall was hired to script the adapted screenplay. Wechsler and his fellow producers Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz planned to have a script and an actor cast to portray the father before pursuing a distributor forthe film.[9] By the following November, actor Viggo Mortensen had entered negotiations with the filmmakers to portray the father, though he was occupied with filming Appaloosa in New Mexico.[10]
With a budget of $20 million,[11] filming began in southwestern Pennsylvania in late February 2008 for eight weeks and moved on to Louisiana and Oregon.[12] Pennsylvania, where most of the filming took place, was chosen for its tax breaks and its abundance of locations that looked post-apocalyptic: coalfields, dunes, and run-down parts of Pittsburgh.[4] Filming was also done at the 1892 Amusement park (Conneaut Lake Park) after one of the parks buildings (the Dreamland Ballroom) was destroyed in a fire in February 2008. Hillcoat also said of using Pittsburgh as a practical location, "It's a beautiful place in fall with the colors changing, but in winter, it can be very bleak. There are city blocks that are abandoned. The woods can be brutal. We didn't want to go the CGI world." Filmmakers also shot scenes in parts of New Orleans that had been ravaged by Hurricane Katrina and on Mount St. Helens in Washington.[13]
Hillcoat sought to make the film faithful to the spirit of the book, creating "a world in severe trauma", although never explaining the circumstances of the apocalyptic event. According to Hillcoat, "That's what makes it more realistic, then it immediately becomes about survival and how you get through each day as opposed to what actually happened."[5] Filmmakers took advantage of days with bad weather to portray the post-apocalyptic environment. Mark Forker, the director of special effects forthe film, sought to make the landscape convincing, handling sky replacement and digitally removing greenery from scenes.[4]
The Abandoned Pennsylvania Turnpike was used for much of production,[7] with evidence shown at the eastern portal of the Sideling Hill Tunnel. The exterior of the tunnel was somewhat restored for filming, with the doorsto the ventilation shaft repainted as well as the white paint near the base of the tunnel entrance being painted tan to match the rest of the exterior of the tunnels. (When the property was still owned by thePennsylvania Turnpike Commission, vandalism took place on the abandoned tunnels sometime in the 1980s, with the white paint used to cover up graffiti.) The same was done with the western portal to Sideling Hill as well as the eastern portal of the Rays Hill Tunnel. Filming did not take placeon the western portal of the Rays Hill Tunnel towards Breezewood, Pennsylvania, as well as the Laurel Hill Tunnel further west due to the latter having been used by Chip Ganassi Racing for wind tunnel testing since 2004.

Plot summary;

The Road follows an unnamed father and son journeying together toward the sea across a post-apocalyptic landscape, some years after a great, unexplained cataclysm has destroyed civilization and almost all life on Earth. The setting is extremely bleak; the sun is obscured by a layer of ash so thick that the pair must breathe through masks, and plants do not grow. The surviving remnants of humanity have been largely reduced to thoughtless violence and cannibalism. Realizing that they will not survive another winter in their present location, the father leads him through this desolate landscape towards the sea, sustained by a vague hope of finding other "good people" like them.

Overwhelmed by this desperate and apparently hopeless situation, the boy's mother, pregnant with him at the time of the cataclysm, has committed suicide some time before the story begins. The father coughs blood every morning and knows he is dying. He struggles to protect his sonfrom the constant threats of attack, exposure, and starvation, as well as from what he sees as the boy's innocently well-meaning but dangerous desire to help the other wanderers they meet. They carry a pistol with two bullets, meant for protection or suicide if necessary. In the face of all of these obstacles, the man and the boy have only each other (they are "each the other's world entire"). The man maintains the pretense, and the boy holds on to the real faith, that there is a core of ethics left somewhere in humanity. They repeatedly assure one another that they are "the good guys", who are "carrying the fire".
On their journey the duo scrounge for food, encounter roving bands of cannibals, and contend with casual horrors such as a baby roasting on a spit and people being kept alive as their limbs are slowly harvested for food. In the end, having brought the boy south after extreme hardship but without finding the salvation he had hoped for, the father succumbs to his illness and dies, leaving the boy alone onthe road . Three days later, however, the grieving boy encounters a man who has been tracking the father and son; this man, who has a wife and two children of his own, brings the boy to join his family. One of the children is a girl, implying the possibility of a future for the human race, despite the grim conditions. A brief epilogue meditates on nature and infinity in this altered environment.
The movie was mainly filmed in Pennsylvania. It was chosen for its tax breaks and its abundance of locations that looked post-apocalyptic: coalfields, dunes, and run-down parts of Pittsburgh. Some scenes have also been shot in parts of New Orleans that had been ravaged by Hurricane Katrina and on Mount St. Helens in Washington. Filming on days with bad weather and using some minors digital enhancements (to take away any greenery) the result is a really bleak atmosphere that looks so real!
