Toronto Fest Feels The ‘Aftershock’
September 21st, 2010

September 21, 2010: "Aftershock," a film based on an earthquake that was released in China sometime this year has quickly became the nation’s box-office leader of all-time. It has done amazingly well for itself for a domestic movie. The movie was played as an afterthought this weekend in the Toronto Film Festival.

The Chinese release of the film was scheduled to happen at the 34th anniversary of the dreaded Tangshan earthquake that took place in the year 1976. The Tangshan earthquake took over 240,000 lives.

The making of the film costed a whopping $76 million. However, Hollywood’s "Avatar" still remains the leader at the Chinese movie box office and has made more than $200 million in China. "Aftershock" the movie is also the first ever Chinese film that has been made in conjunction with IMAX. The movie is presently devoid of any U.S. distributor.

This film is directed by Feng Xiaogang. The director couldn’t attend the Toronto International Film Festival as he had prior shooting commitments.

This is one film that is bookended by almost real-life depictions of the Tangshan earthquake that devastated the entire region in 1976. It also draws inspiration from the Sichuan earthquake in 2008.

The story as depicted in the movie follows the lives of twins, a boy and a girl. The two are estranged by the first earthquake and then are reunited in the repercussion of the second one. The movie beautifully tracks their personal changes as the nation of China proceeds further away from its days of Cultural Revolution to its more capitalist embodiment of today.

How I Met Your Mother Season 6 premieres
September 21st, 2010

September 22, 2010: The first episode of the wildly popular sitcom ‘How I Met Your Mother’ Season 6 was aired on Monday. The premise of the show as we already know is about Ted Mosby an Architect on the wrong side of 30 who is looking for the perfect woman. Ted’s friends include Marshall, Lilly, Robin and last but definitely not the least Barney. Wait for it … Stinson.

The crew is back with another season of the hilarious sitcom, the first episode of Season 6 suggests that Ted might be very close to finding the mother of his future kids. On Monday’s episode we saw Ted running into Cindy who is the girlfriend of his future wife. The season opens with Robin still coping from her break up with Don. Marshall wants to start a family and Lilly is upset with Marshall’s father. Barney definitely gave us some Aww! Moments when he got starry eyed after seeing Robin.

The episode was not that high on laughter but it served its purpose by giving the audience an update on everyone’s life. The episode also managed to take the story to the next level. Something was mentioned about Ted being the best man at someone’s wedding; we don’t really know whose wedding we are talking about here. The biggest twist will be if Barney and Robin decide to get married.

Speculations aside, the show to be a laugh riot and we hope it delivers on that promise.

Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah, who has been acting in Bollywood films since 1975, has worked in numerous films till today,

Naseeruddin Shah Has Over 30 Unreleased Films!
September 21st, 2010

September 22, 2010: Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah, who has been acting in Bollywood films since 1975, has worked in numerous films till today and is still counted as one of the finest actors in the industry.

In his over thirty year long Bollywood career, the actors would have 30 more films if there were no distribution problems. The 60 year old Shah was quoted saying that he could probably make the world record of maximum number of unreleased movies.

Naseer added that some of these unreleased movies were not very good but even a bad films involves lots of hard work. He informed that these movies have finished dubbing, mixing and even they are ready with the prints. So the veteran thinks they deserve to be released.

The oldest unreleased film of Shah was made by renowned director Mrinal Sen. The film also starred two other veterans Om Puri and Shabana Azmi. Speaking about this, Shah said that it was shot in Jaisalmer 25 years ago and he and Om grew beards for over a year to get into the skin of their caveman-like characters.

One of his action-adventure films titled Valley of Flowers was also not released even after four years of completing it.

Speaking about the solution of this, Shah said that the makers should think of this from the beginning. The filmmaking process faces so many problems during the post production stage that sometimes they forget about how to release it, Shah added.

We hope, the distributors are listening to the veteran and some of them come out to release those long pending films!

However, there is a possibility that the former ‘O.C.’ star might reconcile with him.

‘She’s trying to forget about him and move on, but they might give it another go. Mischa has always had on-off relationships. But she’s not reaching out to him at this stage,’ the source added.
