By R.G. Vijayasarathy Sat, 01 Aug 2009 Director Vijayalakshmi Singh's "Male Barali Manju Irali" is a feel good love story, which is told in a classic style. Singh has returned to basics to make the film that has a neat narration and top class performances. It is also technically sound.
The film doesn't have too much space for special effects, graphics and glitzy visuals. It's a simple story, but makes an impact. This is Singh's second directorial venture and she shows her class by making a stylish film that will appeal to young audiences and women too.
The director has presented the main protagonist Sneha well in both style and substance. She represents today's much awakened modern woman who is confident, mature, transparent and doesn't hesitate in speaking her mind. Other characters look like prototypes, but Singh has taken care to make the proceedings as natural as possible.
Despite having a simple love triangle, "Male Barali Manju Irali" will strike the chord with the viewers as it has high degree of emotional intensity, not seen in the Kannada films recently.
That is precisely because of charged performances by leading artists Parvathy, Kitty and Jai Jagadish. And Singh gets ample support from top class technicians that include cameraman Ajay Vincent, dialogue writer B.A. Madhu and composer Mano Murthy, whose background stands out in the film.
The films is about a well-educated young girl Sneha who comes to her village to spent time with her father Shivappa who works for a rich estate owner. Sneha's childhood memories are rekindled when she sees the two sons of the estate owner.
She takes a liking to Vishwas, elder of the two who is an introvert but with a heart of gold. While the younger brother falls in love with her. Since Sneha has been closer to Prem as a child, she seeks his help to strengthen her relationship with Vishwas. And then starts the drama.
Malayalam actress Parvathy gives a brilliant performance. She is extremely natural in her role. Her body language, dialogue delivery sinks suits the modern girl that she plays. She is terrific in the climax where she doesn't speak even a word, but shows a range of emotions.
Kitty comes off very good in the climax sequence as well. This is veteran actor Jai Jagadish's best role so far. All the other artists have given satisfactory performances.
Ajay Vincent's camera work captures the beauty of the locations as much as the mood of the sequences. The title song and "Ondhu Sala" are well shot.
Over all "Male Barali Manju Irali" is an enjoyable fare, which could be appreciated for its narrative, direction and high voltage performances.

Cast And Crew

Cast: Tarun, Prajwal Devaraj, Radhika Pandit,
Yagna Shetty, Ramesh Bhat, Chitra Shenoy
Director: Prashanth
Producer: Naveen

Reviews

"Love Guru" does not have an unusual story, it is a love story told many times over.
But it is presented in the film with a fresh concept and a different type of background which enables it to have a larger appeal.
Director Prashanth, who has had some training in Bollywood, has brought in some novelty in presentation of songs and has ensured that all the characters in the film look real.
The highlight of the film is the composition and picturisation of songs which are done with style. Joshua Sridhar has done some wonderful work and will be remembered for this film, after his sensational music in Tamil film "Kaadal".
The film is made in a corporate background to gel with the silicon city status of Bangalore. Its appeal is largely to an urban audience.
The ambience, the clothes, the background of each sequence fits perfectly. The major characters of the film are young and behave much like today's youngsters working in the corporate sector.
The confusion, depression, the happy mood, styles and mannerisms peculiar to the young corporate crowd has been well captured in the film. The colourful visual support adds a lot of pep to the film's presentation.
However the way the film moves in the second half is a matter of concern and the climax is confusing. Director Prashanth should have worked out his second half a little more cautiously. That is because the first half of the film moves so well in an entertaining manner that second half may look a little dragging.
Still the seriousness that comes from Tarun's character makes the proceedings a little interesting in the second half.
The story revolves around a young ambitious and assertive girl Kushi (Radhika Pandit) and a simple low profile Pratham (Tarun) who join a software firm on the same day. They start loving each other, but preferred to keep to themselves. Pratham tries many times to tell Kushi about his love, but all the time it ends up as a big joke. Kushi also finds Pratham little confusing and wavering. Meanwhile, Abhi (Dilip Raj) who is the boss of Kushi wants to marry her. Circumstances force Kushi to accept Abhi's proposal. A dejected Pratham is totally confused.
Among the artistes, it is Radhika Pandit who steals the show. She is terrific with her expressions. Experienced actor Dilip Rai lives the role of Abhi. For Tarun this is certainly a big turn in his career. He has also proved to be a very good actor in this film.
The veteran artists of the film have fit in to their roles perfectly.
The technical work of the film is superb. Particularly Joshua Sridhar's music really rocks.
"Yaaru Kooda Ninna Haage" and "Thangaali Tandeya" are well picturised. Cameraman Saba Kumar has done a wonderful job with the songs. The camera work captures the sequences quite effectively. The art work is fine and matches the film's background.

"Love Guru" is a must watch for its freshness, though the story is not off beat.

Reviews

Director P.N. Sathya's "Kencha", which has Prajwal Devaraj in the lead role, has an age-old storyline and the narration too is drab. Prajwal seems to have chosen yet another wrong film.

Sathya, whose recent "Hodi Maga" too fell flat, dishes out another below average potboiler in "Kencha".

The film's cliched story reminds one of many old films of the 70s that revolved around a virtuous son fighting a villainous father.

Sathya has taken too many responsibilities in the film -- writing the script, dialogues and essaying an important role. However, he proves to be a better actor than a director.

"Kencha" clearly proves that established directors like Sathya don't think of fresh concepts. In most of his films the villains are presented in an unrealistically crude fashion and even the other characters are far from natural.

The story is about a college student Rahul, who likes taking up challenges in life. During a motorbike racing competition, he sees a person getting killed by Pashupathi, a dreaded don in the city who has been hired by Giri Gowda, a minister.

Rahul is in love with Shwetha and this irks Ajay, who studies in the same college. Rahul goes to the police when he finds Pashupathi murdering another person. But Pashupathi refuses to cross swords with Rahul despite being pressurised by his friends, because he knows Rahul is his son.

Rahul hates Pashupathi because he feels his father had killed his mother. And this confrontation between Rahul and Pashupathi is exploited by Ajay and the other bad guys. What happens later in the film is very predictable.

Prajwal is shown with a larger-than-life image. But he needs to work in good films and accept characters that suit his age and physique. He is, however, good in fight and dance sequences.

Actress Pragna has little to do. It's sad to see that Pragna, who showed promise in a film like "Ganesha Maththe Bandha", is reduced to just a glam girl.

A talented actor like Tilak is totally wasted. Sharath Lohithashwa's voice is appealing, but his characterisation defies all logic. Director Sathya has done a fairly good job in a cameo role.

Rajesh Ramanath's music is ordinary, but the song "Hrudaya" stands out.

Cast: Diganth, Vishaka Singh, Girija Oak, Lokanath,

Reviews

Hemanth Hegde's "House Full" is a complete comical entertainer. The second half is well narrated, while the first part has some dull moments. But on the whole, the film is a lively package.
"House Full" starts as a comedy of errors and goes on till the confusions are sorted out. But there seems to be a sense of urgency seen in the climax as the end is quite abrupt. But "House Full" has lot of comical turns that provide a hearty laugh.
Hegde proves to be a major highlight in the film as an actor too. He has written the story and dialogues apart from being the director.
"House Full" is definitely his best best work compared to his previous films that lacked substance. Perhaps his stint in Bollywood where he directed "Khanna and Mrs. Iyer" for Mukta Arts might have helped him add some style and glitz.
But "House Full" has flaws in the first half. Hegde includes some unnecessary situations that are neither comical or logical. They look like they have been added just to enhance the film's length. But for these loosely knit situations, the film could have been better.
Another minus factor of the film is the music, which is just average.
"House Full" centres around two irresponsible friends Diganth and Parameshi who dream of a big debut in the film industry. Parameshi is a parasite who lives off Diganth's riches. He is married to Neetu, an aspiring star in the making, and Diganth is in love with a girl named Aishu.
Diganth's grandfather is in South Africa and wants his grandson reformed. Diganth lies to his grandfather that he is married to Aishu. A confusion is created by Diganth's deputy Pani Puri, who mails Neetu's photo to the grandfather instead of Aishu's photo.
And then the whole confusion starts with each of the four characters placed in many strange situations.
Hegde shows off his acting talents and Diganth too has done well in his role. He seems to have got a flair for doing comedy-oriented films. The heroines Vishaka Singh and Gowri Oak have also done a pretty good job and add some glamour to the film.
Veteran actor Lokanath steals the show in the role of Balavanta Rao. The other senior character actors don't disappoint either.
The film is made with a limited budget, but has turned out to be an enjoyable entertainer.

Chamkaysi Chindi Udaysi Kannada Movie 2009

Cast and Crew

Cast: Komalkumar, Nidhi, Rahul, Kiran
Direction: AR Babu
Production: Anasooya, Jeevan
Music: Masth Balaji

Reviews

Though it was publicised as an original film, A.R. Babu's "Chamaayisi Chindi Udaayisi" is clearly a remake of 2005 Hindi film "Deewane Huye Paagal", which in turn was inspired by Hollywood flick "There's Something About Mary".

Babu seems to have remained faithful to the Hindi version. "Chamaayisi..." makes a good beginning as it brings the house down with comical situations, but ends up with a disastrous second half.

The second part is so dragging that it may well put you to sleep.

The story revolves around Bottu Seenu and his two friends Ramu and Raghu, who are cheated by a finance agency. Seenu and his friends, who are all bluff masters, fall in love with Kamala, who rented a house near near Raghu's home.

The friends are disappointed when Kamala leaves for Malaysia. But a guy called Ganesh finances Seenu's trip to Malaysia to trace Kamala. Seenu spins a long yarn and tells Kamala that he is an architect. The heroine, meanwhile, has become a busy model.

Soon Ganesh also comes to Malaysia. There is a crime angle to the story as a mafia group kills Kamala's brother over some diamonds. What happens in Malaysia and who Kamala chooses in the end is what the story is all about.

Komal is brilliant as an actor as he literally lives his character.

Nidhi Subbaiah's glamour quotient helps the film, but the actress isn't great in emotional sequences. Sharan is impressive in his role and Giri flaunts his flair for comedy. Veterans Umashri, Shobharaj, Mukyamanthri Chandru do justice to their respective roles.

The film is technically sound. Well-known cinematographer and director Ashok Cashyap charms you with some fantastic visuals and frames. The dialogues by Manju Mandavya are entertaining and funny. Balaji's music compositions include some hummable songs like "Bejaanaagi Premisu" and "Rabne Bana Diya", which are well choreographed too.

The major drawback of the film is that director Babu has failed to maintain a good tempo. Even in the first half, there are unnecessary sequences that could have been chopped off.

"Chamakaayisi..." has many loopholes but it is worth a watch for the entertaining dialogues.

Give love and affection to your children. Spend some valuable time with them. Director Rasi Azhagappan, the one time assistant of Kamal Hassan, tries to drive home these messages with his movie "Vannathupoochi".
The film revolves around an eight-year-old girl fighting a legal battle to stay with her grandfather who showers love and affection on her while her parents, who provide all material comfort to her, fail to spend time with her.
What the movie finally says is that a child has every right to make a choice if he or she feels that parents are not giving enough attention to him or her. Rasi Azhhagappan can be appreciated for taking a theme that is far from commercial cliches, but at the same time he fails to handle it with maturity.
The couple Arun (Siddharth) and Chitra (Madhavi Sharma) work with an IT firm and they are so busy that they have no time for their child Divya Bharathi (Sri Lakshmi). They send her to a posh school and give her everything that money can buy, but are never there for her.
During her holidays Divya goes to her father's village to spend time with her grandfather Chinnasamy (Bala Singh). She is moved by the love and affection that is showered on her by her grandfather and the whole village.
When Arun comes to fetch her, he gets the shock of his life as Divya not only refuses to come with him, she also files a case alleging that she is neglected by her parents and she would prefer to stay with her grandfather.
It's a debatable issue in today's time when young parents are more concerned about their children and not only ensure that they get good education, but also spends quality time with them, help them with their homework and also throw lavish birthday parties.
One wonders why Azhagappan portrays Siddharth and Madhavi Sharma as a greedy couple who only care for money and have no time for emotions in the film. The director should have done more homework on working couples before finalising the script.
The director has not only failed to show the real picture of working couples and their relationship with their children, most of the scenes are handled in an amateurish manner. As a result it looks like a half-baked attempt and fails to do justice to the sensitive issue.
The director also tries to prove that village is an ideal place for children, which is far from the reality. While the scenes involving the children moving around in the village look credible and pleasant, the portrayal of a 'pleasant' village resembles the movies of eighties.
Newcomers Siddarth and Madhavi Sharma fail to portray the travails of upper middle class parents. Bala Singh impresses. But it is Sri Lakshmi who walks away with all honours. The young girl has done exceedingly well and her spontaneity on screen is a treat to watch.
Revathi makes a brief appearance as a judge.
P.S. Dharan's cinematography is highlight of "Vannathupoochi" and debutant music director Rehaan has provided some enjoyable tunes and the song "Grama Vazhkaikullae" stands out.

Reviews

Director Moorthy, after his maiden venture "Karuppasamy Kuthagaikarar", has chosen to do a light hearted film with "Vediugundu Murugesan".

Though it is loud and predictable, it is fairly enjoyable thanks to Moorthy's screenplay and Pasupathy's and Vadivelu's acting.

The film set in Keezharajakulam village in Rajapalayam is about a do-gooder, who gets into trouble for no fault of his.

Vedigundu Murugesan (Pasupathy) is a village youth. He earns his living fetching water for factories and hotels in his village. Though he Often gets into trouble for breaking the law, Murugesan escapes every time thanks to the kindness of the judge. Murugesan also takes care of Ponni (Deepa), who is mentally ill and deserted by her parents.

Enters Nachiyar (Jyothirmayee), a police constable who begins to like Murugesan.

Meanwhile Kodanchan (Raneesh), a local gangster, troubles Ponni and Murugesan beats him up. A mishap occurs after the fight in which Kodanchan gets killed and the blame falls on Murugesan.

Kodanchan's brother Ganesan (Veera) vows to take revenge and the rest of the film is about a cat and mouse game between the two.

Morthy hasn't chosen a new storyline but he has given a different treatment to the story.

He has consciously laced the narrative with satire. He has conceived some hilarious moments.

Pasupathy plays his part well. His body language and dialogue delivery are good. Jyothirmayee as his ladylove is competent. Veera and Raneesh are alright.

The theme of "Sinthanai Sei", directed and enacted by newcomer Yuvan, is like a bolt from the blue. But the amateur handling of the screenplay mars its overall impact.
What begins as an emotional tale slowly settles down to an action-flick about a bank robbery. The humiliation caused by failures of five youths manifests into violence and forces them to chart a different path in their lives.
Adhi (Yuvan), who is considered useless by his parents, comes to the city to eke out a livelihood. But to his surprise Gayathri (Madhu Priya), a rich girl falls in love with him and they get married within a month. But they get separated in a matter of days.
Yuvan, humiliated and shattered, goes in search of his lost life and meets his four friends who studied with him in school. All of them are sailing in the same boat as all are struggling to make both ends meet.
Ethics and morality are the last thing on their mind as they struggle to make a living and so they have no qualms in indulging in criminal activities as well.
Aiming big, one fine day these petty thieves plan to rob a bank. They execute the plan well, leaving the police clueless and confused. They decide to share Rs.5 crore (Rs.50 million) they stole from the bank and here begins all the troubles.
Mistrust crops up between them. Friends get killed one after another and a blame game follows. Yuvan finally manages to survive and the climax tells you what he did with the money.
Debutant director Yuvan has to be commended for his efforts to build a story based on the psychological aspect of one's life. He has effectively shown how humiliation caused by failures gets manifested in youth taking to crime and violence.
He has presented the movie with a brisk pace till the intermission. But the second half, with some predictable turns, is relatively slow. Moreover, the director takes too much of time to reach the climax, which lacks punch despite the many twists and turns.
Thaman, a member of the group Shankar's Boys, scores the music for the film. A couple of songs are racy and foot-tapping.
Yuvan is impressive in the acting department too as he brings out the right emotions at the right time. The rest of the cast, including Sashanth, Bala, Madhu Sharma and Kadhal Dhandapani, do the job entrusted to them well.
On the whole, the movie begins with a promise but fails to maintain the momentum in the second half.
The bank robbery of Rs.5 Crores is carried off perfectly. But sooner begins the big roll of twists and turns where double-crossings and betrayals become the order of the day leading to unexpected bizarreness.
Yuvan has well-depicted the bank robbery plan that turns to be the highlight of this show. Although, the scenario reminds you of Al Pacino’s Dog Day Afternoon, it is ‘picture perfect’. But the latter part has been completely copied from Johnny Gaddar (Directed by Sriram Raghavan with Neil Nithin Mukesh , Dharmendra in lead roles) where the evil-minded gang members are on the greedy run.
Yuvan makes a convincing debut as a filmmaker and well as an actor. Rest of the star-casts Madhu Sharma, Shesanth, Nitish Kumar and Shabi have exquisitely delivered their parts. Kadhal Dandapani hardly appears in not more than 3 scenes, but spells an awe-inspiring show. Humorous quotients have been crafted by Yuvan that keeps you entertained during the first half.
Musical score by Thamman is laudable in both songs and background score. But Yuvan should’ve avoided depicting the symbolization of ‘Kannagi’ in fast-beat Kuthu song as it looks absurd. Dialogues are quite amateurish in few parts and it could’ve been trimmed. Cinematography has been stupendously done with rich tone while more ‘cuts’ on editing slightly diminishes the look.
Though, Sindhanai Sei seems to have been inspired from a long-list of flicks, Yuvan does a brilliant job in modifying them to the tastes of Tamil audiences. With most of this week releases failing to make it big, Yuvan is sure to strike jackpot at the box office with this engrossing film….

Pista Telugu Movie 2009

Cast And Crew

Cast: Vishal, Shriya
Director: Sabha Ayyappan
Producer: G K Films

Reviews

The movie starts with such a loud noise and sends out an early message that nothing is right about it. It starts with a typical movie background music hearing, which one can immediately expect the quality of the scenes that are going to unfold. Barely a few minutes in to the movie and the audience realizes that its money and time have been wasted. The title and the promos promise a lot and the makers fail to deliver.
Neither Vishal's acting, nor does the story have anything worthy writing about. If the story is weak, the dialogs are weaker. Having watched the same type of fighting scenes it can be safely said that the fights in the movie are utterly boring.
Another downside of the movie is that Prakash Raj and Shayaji Shinde are the villains in it. People have watched them in countless movies. Why is not anybody thinking of finding newer villains or putting older villains in newer and challenging roles?
Krishna (Vishal) comes to Visakhapatnam in search of his elder brother. His elder brother had run away from home when he was a kid. How Vishal finds his elder brother and in what circumstances form the gist of the story.
Vishal's acting lacks authenticity. The director's imagination matches that of a school going kid. Shreya's acting is all right, but she hardly plays any vital role except as the love interest of Vishal.
The music of the movie also keeps pace with everything else and does not rise from the over all sub standard quality. There is hardly any comedy. Whatever comedy is there it actually makes us cry.
In the climax scene when the interest should be at its peak, viewers find themselves waking up from small naps.
Gosh, hardly watched a movie so boring in a long time. But even such a movie has one good thing - good acting by the guy that has donned the role of Krishna's brother. But that is hardly anything to hold the movie together.

Director Muppalaneni Siva, who gave big hits like Raja, Sandade Sandadi, Sankranti, which had family subjects in the backdrop, this time chose a youthful love story with college in its backdrop. Moreover, he chose new faces for his film this time. But with several films to his credit as a director, he managed to deal with the artistes easily and was able to extract the acting talents in each of them. The film appears to have been inspired by the recent hit film ‘Happy Days’ till the interval bang. But takes a twist and turns into a different way.
There is a group of five friends with two girls among them in Bapatla Engineering College.

Anand(Nischal) leads the gang. Of them, there is one Prabhu, whose father (Bhuvanachandra), is very strict about his studies. He puts his son in complete discipline. All the five enjoy the college life and a day comes where the campus recruitment starts going on. Everyone participate in it and four of them get a job in a multi-national company. But the four refuse to join the job as all the five want to work for a company together. Pleased with their strong bond of friendship, the company selects Prabhu who missed the selection earlier. Even as they were enjoying their selection in the college, Prabhu’s father forcibly takes him away and gets him married against his wishes. After his return, Prabhu did not reveal about his marriage to his friends and he manages to get posting away in Mumbai, while the remaining four seek jobs in Vizag. He separates with his friends by feeling guilty for not inviting his friends to his marriage. Later, the remaining four continue to live together and the girls get married and to continue their friendship, they stay together by constructing a villa with four different portions in that building. At this juncture, Anand and the other guy go to a place on a project work. During their train journey Anand falls in love with Anjali, who was in his opposite berth. Accidentally, Anand comes to know that Anjali manages a digital photo store and their friendship grows. Once Anjali calls up Anand and invites him to lunch. But Anand says he will come with his friends. Even before he express his love, he gets a shocking news that Anjali is none other than Prabhu’s wife. Then he repents and starts making efforts to know the whereabouts of Prabhu. One day one Rajeh calls him from Bangkok saying Prabhu was there. So Anand and Anjali go to Bangkok and start searching for him. Anand comes to know that Prabhu married another girl in Bangkok and they had a daughter too. He did not want to reveal it to Anjali but she comes to know when Anand talks to Rajesh about this. Knowing fully well that Anand had sacrificed his love for his friendship, Anjali decides to forget Prabhu, as he deserted her immediately and marries Anand. The film ends on a happy note with all the five uniting again and launch a company on their own and visit the college for campus recruitment.

Though novices Nischal, Karthik, Abhiram, Meenakshi Deekshit, Monali Choudary gave a nice performance. Especially, Nischal performed well before the camera, though he is very new to it. He showed good ease in dances and one fight. Moreover, his body language to is very casual and did not show any fear while facing the camera. Meenakshi Dikshit also showcased good performance and she got a good chance to prove her acting capabilities and at the same time, she got a good chance to shake legs with Nischal in duets. Other artistes including Karthik, Abhiram, Ananya and Monali Choudary too did justice to their roles. For the first time, Bhuvanachandra made his screen presence as an artiste and proved that he could do well on the screen as well. However, he sought someone’s voice for dubbing. Narayana Rao, Sana and Sivaparvathi appeared in a couple of scenes. Brahmanandam once again flashed on the screen to tickle the funny bone of the audiences.

ischal and Meenakshi Dikshit was perfect in dances. Not only the songs are good to watch, some of them were also penned with good literary values to suit the situation. Music by Srija is okay though not very impressive. Story by Ghatikachalam is normal till the interval bang and the twists in the second half made the audiences to sit tight in seats. Dialogues by Ghatikachalam are also okay. Cinematography by Steadycam Prasad is good and he captured the beauty of Bangkok as well as the scenes with college backdrop with the same precision. Muppalaneni Siva, penned perfect screenplay for the film and this helped the audiences not to feel bored with right placement of songs every time when the audiences feel like boring. The director succeeded in his attempt in portraying the lifestyle of the students and presented on the celluloid how different students behave in their college.

Though the film has nothing new to offer, the twists and the accurate movement and twists made the film worth watching. The film is not boring and reminds the audiences of many other films
with college backdrop in general and ‘Happy Days’ in particular. The film upheld the values of friendship, love and sacrifice. It may attract the college going youth, provided the producer gives it proper publicity. The film had no obscene scenes and could be watched by the entire family sitting together. Moreover, the film depicts that the present generation youth realized the value of time, and are not wasting it. Moreover, they want to use their time constructively by setting certain goals for themselves. They are struggling hard to achieve those goals

By Ayyappa Prasad Sun, 14 Sep 2008 A petite female raising the hackles of a possessive lover by naming a different suitor is almost as old as time.
That, in a nutshell is the plot of "Gunde Jhallumandi" set against a college backdrop featuring Uday Kiran and Aditi.
A rustic political aspirant Balaraju moves to a city to obtain a graduate's degree. He falls for a femme fatale collegian Neelima.
After bluffing that she has a different lover for a while, the heroine accepts her bumpkin suitor. And a surprise bad man suddenly turns up to stake a claim to the girl.
How the lovers best the impostor forms the rest of the tale.
In the sixties and seventies, hackneyed plots used to be written to weave 6 catchy songs into a movie.
If the numbers were hits, the movie would fare well, or so the formula went then.
Director Madan has tried to resurrect that mothballed mode of movie-making sans the vital ingredient - hit music.
It is a mystery as to why Keeravani, who contributed considerably to the success of "Pandurangadu" earlier this year, had to come up with this below-par effort.
Director Madan seems to have worked in bursts of inspiration and lows of insipidity. As a result, the move is a series of staccato bursts of spirited scenes and silly soliloquies.
Uday and Aditi look like winsome college kids Balaraju and Neelima, respectively, and attempt to resuscitate the inane proceedings in patches.
Prabhakar Reddy has provided some interesting frames. But, they are too sparse to leave a lasting impact.
In short, this one is a sheer wastage of resources.

Our film would reflect the mindset of the present day youth and their lifestyle. The first half is shot in India and the entire second half has been shot abroad."
'Rechipo' is the Telugu flick which stars youth star Nitin in the lead. The shooting of the same was going on at brisk pace and has been completed.
According to sources, most of the movie has been shot in Gulf. It is being produced by GV Ramana and directed by Paruchuri Murali. Nitin is pairing up with ‘Andala Khazana’ Ileana in this one.
Sources indicate that most of the shooting has been completed sans the post production works and now the release date is likely to be for this week or the next.
The movie seems to be about a young man set to achieve his love goal in the game of love and how he defies all odds forms the essence.

Reviews

‘Meghatheertham’ a new movie directed by Unni made a silent release today. The movie is a musical based on Carnatic music, produced by Shaji Natesan in association with green and bravo films. Featuring Saikumar, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Manikuttan and Siddique in key roles, the movie has some good music by Sharath.
The other highlight of the movie is the presence of Lohithadas who recently met with an untimely death. The prolific screenwriter-director will be in a short but interesting role in the movie. Utpal V Nayanar and Gireesh Puthenchery are also in the crew list of ‘Meghatheertham’, which made an opening in 20 theatres today.
The story clearly belongs to the primitive era, when musician boy (Saikumar) meets musician girl (Kaviyoor Ponnamma), girl gets pregnant, boy and girl get separated, and later meet again with the boy's boy (Siddiq) now grown up into a man. Now the boy's boy has got serious issues with boy, and girl is distraught. Story goes on till misconceptions are cleared and boy and girl are together again.

The loud claims that 'Meghatheertham' makes as the most moving musical to hit the screens after 'Shankarabharanam' are a bit too incredibly tall. Any comparison with the 1979 musical would be fully unfair, as 'Meghatheertham' is not a patch on the classic, content or quality wise.

If you are experiencing difficulties visualizing Ponnamma and Saikumar in the throes of a glorious romance, let me assure you that Manikuuttan and Aparna are around in the flashback scenario.

It rains at last as the Amrithavarshini raga reaches its pinnacle. And thus comes an end to a clutter of events that do not even for a moment move away from its traditional purpose. The 'Shankarabharanam' impact is obvious here with what happens on stage, and you can only cringe at how ridiculous the whole thing has turned out to be.

Could somebody tell me where the son disappeared after making life a hell for his mom? He was nowhere to be seen in the rain scene either. Probably a bit too embarrassed to be a part of this highly dramatic finish, he must have fled for his life.

The script is clunky to the core, and the direction uniformly uneven. There are a few brilliant visuals by Utpal V Nayanar that sadly appear out of place in this otherwise forgettable film. Sharath's music is pleasant on the ears and his rendition out of the world, but 'Meghatheertham' cannot seek to do for him, what K.Viswanath's film did for K.V.Mahadevan. Unfortunately, splendid music in a film that's anything but splendid sums up the affairs here.

'Meghatheertham' revolves around Kaviyoor Ponnamma, but it's Saikumar who steals the show. He is incredibly good, even as there is little that the film offers him. Siddiq has to his credit another top notch performance, though the disappearing act midway through doesn't help the film much.

Produced jointly by Satyam Cinemas and Real Images, "Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru’ had the audio launched today morning by Padmashree Kamal Haasan. Music Director Mani Sharma (Music Director of Pokkiri, Padikadhavan and Thoranai) ennobled as "Swara Brahma’ has tuned melodies to the lyrical lines of Yughabharathi and Lalith Anand. The album has 5 zippiest tunes and resplendent beats that would doubtlessly haunt the music lovers. We bring you the first exclusive music review of "Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru’…
Doctor Maappilai V
ocals- Ranjith and Naveen
Lyrics- Lalithanand
The song boasts about playing pranks on a peppy girl who doesn’t find a right guy for her. Ranjith and Naveen croon with best intonations while instrumentations are mild. The chorus part has been very well orchestrated. Interludes on oboe have been performed well. Lalithanand’s lyrical lines are very catchy.
Athiri Puthiri
Vocals- Rahul Nambiyar and Janani
Lyrics- Lalithanand
Had you ever heeded to fantastic mix of western beats and carnatic vocalism? The song has spellbinding fast-running beats with hard rock guitars on accompaniment. Lyrics are around pettifoggeries between a guy-gal and about their difference of opinion and tastes. Like the previous song, voices dominate a lot. Rahul Nambiyar and Janani render their voices bringing exact feel of the theme.
Jilena Veesum
Vocals- Haricharan and Saindhavi
Lyrics- Lalithanand
Manisharma has exquisitely tuned this soft-flowing melodious duet. Mild instrumentals add to the pleasant touch. Although, Haricharan and Saindhavi have delivered a commendable show, Manisharma could’ve opted for singers like Hariharan and Shreya Ghosal, who would’ve yet more embellished the tuneful score.
Thiru Thiru Vizhiyae
Vocals- Karthik and Rita
Lyrics- Yughabharathi
The tune is slightly middling. Maybe, the song may get popularized if visuals have been presented well. Yughabharathi’s lyrics are average.
TTTT Theme Song
Vocals- Ranjith and Saindhavi
Lyrics- Lalithanand
Looks like, Manisharma has adapted some musical pieces from Mozart’s pieces for the preludes. Much similar to the first song, the chorus part has been delicately orchestrated and sound mixing has been magnificently engineered.
Final Take-
With Manisharma’s previous albums "Padikadhavan’ and "Thoranai’ not doing well in audio markets, he is back with a bang. "Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru’, in all is a music album with best tunes. The songs have right ingredients to attract the listeners. Verdict- Mani Sharma back with his magic

True love comes quietly, without banners or flashing lights. If you hear bells, get your ears checked. Well that is how this young lad and gal fall in love. "Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru’ is not boasting of an exceptional theme. This is a sweet romantic comedy interwoven with interesting elements of humour and emotions.
Nandini, who assisted director Priya in "Kanda Naal Mudhal’ and "Kannamoochi Enadaa’, makes her debut directorial with this film, which is produced by Satyam Cinemas and Real Image.
Actor Ajmal, a doctor by profession who made his debut in Kollywood with "Anjathey’ has gdropped his tough-guy role into a cool-romantic chap. Bangalore based model Rupa stars him opposite in female lead. Witnessing her fluency in Tamil, Nandini has offered Rupa to dub with her voice.
Ajmal does the role of devil-may-care youngster who frequently gets into problems while Rupa solves them out.
Actor Kamal Haasan, director A.R. Murugadoss, Gowtham Menon and K.S. Ravikumar have launched the audio for this movie on Aug 4. Producers of the film have decided to dub the film in Telugu.
"Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru’ is slated to hit the screens by first week of September. In short, the movie will have pleasant appeal to the audience.
Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru, a light- hearted romantic comedy starring Ajmal and new comer Rupa Manjeri in the lead, is ready for a release. The film is directed by Nandini, a former associate of Priya (of Kanda Naal Muthal-fame)

Says Nandini, ‘Ajmal has acted in serious roles in Anjathae and TN 09 AL 4777. In T4, he plays a callous youth who is fun-loving. Rupa Manjeri is a new face from Bangalore. She has played her part well as a chirpy young girl.’

T4 is produced jointly by Satyam Cinemas and Real Image. Nandini adds: ‘It’s a challenge to do a movie in digital format. But all went according to plan. And I thank my producers for giving me that opportunity.’

According to Ajmal, 'I am playig a cool romantic chap, who loves fun. Working with Nandini is wonderful as she plans things well in advance. My co-star Rupa too is a great colleague to work with.

The other credits are: Music- Mani Sharma, Lyrics- Yughabharathi and Lalith Anand, Cinematography- Sudhir Chowdary Art- Kiran, Editing- M S Suryah.

What happens when an exceptionally talented actor develops an inexplicable urge to delve into the dark side of the human psyche, and worse, decides to paint the town red about it?
Well, for one, you get a film called Abhay (Fearless).
With the vision that hindsight provides, I wouldn't be far off target if, in a rare bout of self-pity, I describe myself as being the real Abhay for having sat through the almost three-hour-long film.
For someone who has grown up deifying Kamal Haasan's histrionic talents, whether as the simpleton in Moonram Pirai (dubbed as Sadma in Hindi), as the do-gooder godfather in Nayakan, or as the mentally challenged Guna, his portrayal of Abhay is sterile and without soul, to put it mildly.
Padmashri Kamal Haasan, as he has chosen to introduce himself in the credits, seems to be afflicted with the typical Hollywoodian obsession with technology, and it shows in the delusional sequences of Abhay, numerous fight scenes, and the countless pyrotechnics the twins (Abhay and Vijay) engage in.
No wonder it took close to Rs 25 crore to make.
But like Godzilla and countless other gizmo-heavy movies, the film falls with a mighty thud, proving yet again that nothing can substitute a good story line and great acting.
True, the film does have its moments, but they are more like its '15 seconds of fame'.
With a double role, Kamal should have delivered a double whammy. In an ironic twist of fate he manages to deliver it, but it hits you where it hurts the most: your innate logic and sensibilities.
I am still wondering how Abhay throughout the film manages to get hold of jazzy costumes when he has just about managed to escape from a mental asylum and is constantly evading the police and his twin brother Major Vijay Kumar.
There are many such scenes, which place incredulity at a major discount. At the end of it all you are left with the sick feeling of having been sold lemons -- extremely polished ones, but lemons nevertheless.
The scene that takes the cake is the final fight sequence, where Abhay, after a murderous but a vain attack on Tejaswini (Raveena Tandon), jumps out of the hotel room, flies through the air, and lo and behold! lands miraculously on an advertising balloon in the air, which carries him, of course all coincidentally, to the next building and safety.
Even as you are scraping your jaw off the theatre floor, his twin (Major Vijay Kumar) shows that what Abhay can do, he can do better.
And the story? Ah...
Twins: one evil, one good. The evil one, through a process of logical deduction that puts the word convoluted in the shade, gets it in his head that the good one's wife is the root cause of all that is wrong with the world. The rest of the film is one massive Kamal vs Kamal megalomaniacal tussle, and surprise,
surprise! the good one wins. Yawn. Zzzzzzz
Now, such a story doesn't merit more time than you have already spent reading it.
But Kamal, in an exemplary display of how to stretch a four-line story into a three-hour film, comes up with a screenplay liberally embellished with inane songs, tech-laden but completely out of sync delusional sequences, and extra-strong fight sequences.
Even the little somethings that Kamal is famous for in his characterisations -- remember the gruff voice and the stoop he used in Nayakan or the amazing makeup in Indian? -- are quite jarring in Abhay.
The long sniff and sudden twitch of the head that Abhay does before indulging in a bloodbath or entering drug-induced dreamland leave you irritated and wondering whether his doctor had actually made a wrong diagnosis, and all Abhay suffered from was a bad bout of spondylitis.
As for the rest of the cast, except for Raveena Tandon, who is Major Vijay Kumar's better half -- literally so -- they add nothing more than ornamental value to the film. Raveena holds her own against Kamal, and at least once comes out on top when she 'out-acts' Kamal in a post-nuptials scene.
Manisha Koirala (Sharmilee) breezes through the film, leaving you aghast at the waste of such a talent, and wondering why she was needed in the first place.
But, Kamal, for all the brickbats thrown at him, deserves wholehearted credit for having had the guts to break out of the usual cinematic routine of the 'sati savitri, no premarital sex' girlfriend/wife characterisations.
Major Vijay Kumar's girlfriend Tejaswini is a no-holds-barred mediaperson who has no qualms admitting that she enjoyed having sex with her boyfriend. Neither does the major have any problems getting his girlfriend pregnant before marriage and voluntarily taking full responsibility for it.
In a major departure from the Bollywoodian script, neither do Tejaswini's parents (Navin Nischol and Smita Jayakar) react with 'oh the world's all but crashed' attitude, nor does Vijay's uncle (Vikram Gokhale) raise any moralistic ruckus about the issue.
The film's saving graces are the excellent cinematography (Thirru) and the stunning visual effects (George Merkert, Scott, Ian Johnson and Krishnakant Mishra). Both put together manage to push it to the higher reaches of filmdom, which very few Indian films have touched.
Now for the big question. Should you go and see the movie?
For all the disappointment that Kamal has dished out, I would still say a big Yes.
Why? For the sheer technical wizardry of the backroom boys, and for those with a dark sense of humour, to see a demigod fall.
After all, it isn't often that Kamal Haasan fails.
"Padmashree" Kamal Haasan is known for being unconventional. The characters he has essayed, the films he has produced, and even the one he directed, "Hey Ram" have all dared to be different. Returning this time with "Abhay," one of the most hyped movies of the year, this legend, this "demi-god" blunders by being a bit too different. He has guts no doubt. Any person who is willing to spend 250 million rupees on a film (a very high budget for an Indian production) that cannot appeal to any audience at all, really must have some guts!
The plot is an adaptation of the novel, "Dayam" written by Kamal Haasan himself over a decade ago. While in words, the plot may look impressive, the execution by director Suresh Krishna and Kamal Haasan is simply "fanatical" for lack of a more appropriate adjective. The movie starts off in a highly upbeat fashion with Major Vijay Kumar introducing his fiancée to his psychopathic twin, Abhay. The plot is laid out immediately that Abhay is out to kill Tejaswini because he sees his clichéd, evil step-mother in her. Abhay’s painful memories of his childhood that drive him to insanity are well narrated. However, in the second half, Kamal and Suresh Krishna decide to delve into the issue again in a painful, hour-long flashback sequence that is as boring as watching paint dry. In a nutshell, the plot and script look very innovative in the first half but is stretched like a piece of chewing gum in the second.
The film falls flat on its face because of its failure in the two most important departments of filmmaking – scriptwriting, and direction. Initially, the scenes after which "Abhay" gets high on drugs and hallucinates are quite interesting. The use of animation in exposing his mind frame and his naked savagery when he kills is indeed well executed. However, Kamal makes the same mistake he has made time and again in so many of his films – he overdoes it. While one ten minute long hallucinatory sequence is bearable, doing the same thing twice after that, and that too with a little musical number imbedded in one of them, is really testing the audience’s patience.
Among the positive aspects of the film is the action. From the commando operation in the beginning to the car chase and to the final scenes where Abhay jumps off the building on a hot air balloon are all slickly mounted. The special effects by the Australian company, Cutting Edge are also worth a mention. In the fight scenes, and the scenes showing both Abhay and Vijay in the same frame, they have discarded the traditional morphing technique to increase the believability of the interplay between the two characters. Cinematography by S. Thiru provides the necessary gloss that such scenes need. Editing is slick at times, and invisible at others. While making a film such as this, editing should be used to thrill and accentuate the narrative pace. However, when the director would devote so much unnecessary time to hallucination and banal glorification of a drug-addicted psychopath, one can’t really blame the editor for his shortcomings.
Music by Shankar, Ehsaan, and Loy serves absolutely no purpose in the film. While Zingoria and Koyal Se Mili sure are nice songs, they simply stand out as sore thumbs hampering the already lame narrative even more. The background score, while complimentary to the character of the film, is nothing fresh. It’s simply a half-baked montage of sounds pulled of samplers and synthesizers.
Finally, the performances are worth a mention. Kamal as always excels ensuring that he appears in literally every single shot. His performance as Abhay is impressive initially but plays the monotonous tune post interval. Raveena Tandon as Tejwaswini also plays her miniscule role with conviction. Kitu Gidwani as the stereotypical, evil step-mother, and Milind Gunaji as Abhay and Vijay’s father are passable. Manisha Koirala makes a completely, inexplicable, pointless special appearance. While one can sit through the Zingoria dance, her squealing in a pathetic, artificial Americanized accent is simply intolerable.

Parichaya features Tarun and Rekha. It has music by Jassie Gift.Apart from K Sanjay giving us a good music album (by Jessie Gift) here’s what also comes with the much awaited Parichaya – Rekha’s make-over. While most actresses have not been subjected to drastic make-overs in most of our films, K. Sanjay begs to differ. But unfortunately, things did not turn out as expected.
While Hudugata showcased Rekha as a bubbly girl and her looks to suit just that, Parichaya changes the Rekha we all know (rather knew). To start with, the flicks on the forehead make her face look fatter. Makes it look round and the make-up doesn’t go with the round face look. Her dressing themes are light years away, from an innocent small-girl look to a sexy rule-the-ramp look. All her dresses have a characteristic way-above the-knee look unlike her usual jeans and a tee look.
Jeetendra is sent to teach Pran's five grandchildren, the eldest of whom is played by Jaya Bhaduri. Their father Sanjeev Kumar, a talented musician, died after his wife's death, so the children were sent to live with their paternal grandfather. The children have driven away their previous tutors and in turn, get corporal punishment by their aunt. After Jeetendra comes, the children play tricks on him too, but his gentle manner and patient methods win them over. He and Jaya Bhaduri fall in love, and the end credits indicate that there will be a wedding between them.

Jothegara stars Prem Kumar and Ramya in lead roles. Produced by Ashwini Ramparasad, the movie is all set to hit screens any day.
But there seems to be some problems between the lead actor and producer. Apparently, Prem is miffed with Ashwini, who gave a statement that Prem Kumar's role in the film was like that of a supporting actor.
Though the title did make it a hero-oriented film, Ashwini said that he had not invested in the film for the hero, who had a string of flops to his credit. On the contrary, it was the story of Jothegara that attracted him.
Recently, five songs from the movie were screened for the media, and this is where the discord came to light. Adding fuel to fire was Ashwini's claim that he did not need Prem Kumar for the film's promotion, when the latter threatened to withdraw from all publicity activities.
But all said and done, the media response to the songs has been very good. The movie has been creating a lot of positive pre-release buzz.
Well let’s hope both of them put this issue behind them and concentrate on promoting the movie.
The discordant note between the lovely star Premkumar and producer Ashwini Ramprasad of ‘Jothegara’ surfaced open on Wednesday afternoon after screening of five songs for the media of the film ‘Jothegara’ at Arjun Art Studio in Bangalore.

‘I can go without Premkumar now for the publicity and promotion’ said producer Ashwini Ramprsad in retaliation to what actor Premkumar said. The reason for Premkumar to express his fury that he would detach from the ‘Jothegara’ film is because producer Ramprasad given a statement that Premkumar is like supporting actor in the film. As a matter of fact the title points to the hero although top actress Ramya is in the female lead. I have not invested on my film on the basis of market of Premkumar. He has three continuous flops. The subject and making is important for me said Ramprasad in continuation of his attack on Premkumar.

The observation of Ashwini Ramprasad is that the producer and director are at best place to decide on the contents of the cinema. Premkumar is angry because the introduction song with Yana Gupta has been omitted before shooting. The team of ‘Jothegara’ discussed that the song would deviate from the family subject. Premkumar should realize this and not get angry for such things said Ramprasad.

However the five songs seen by the media of ‘Jothegara’ are superb. Ramya is surely going to be the dream girl of youths from this film. The costumes and presence is so fabulous.
What’s the role of lovely star Prem in his forthcoming film Jothegara? Some like Producer Ahwini Ram Prasad swear on Yana Gupta that he is the hero of the film. But some unsupported sources in Gandhinagar whisper that Prem is just a ‘supporting actor’ in the film. Not only Prem has lesser screen space than his co-star Ramya, but he is also paid less than her for this movie. Sources quote that while Prem’s remuneration came to 18 lakhs, the Bombat girl was paid a handsome 30 lakhs for the film.
The root cause of all this bad blood between Prem and Ahwini Ram Prasad seems to be an item song, supposed to be shot with Yana Gupta, but which never made it to the shooting floors. For some reason, Prem wanted the song at all costs but Ahwini Ram Prasad wasn’t too enthusiastic. Ahwini Ram Prasad thinks an item song by Yana, which will inevitably involve lots of skin show, will not be fit for the family audience. While this argument may not be as transparent as Yana’s famed wardrobes, we think it’s left to the producer and the director to shoot or not to shoot a song.
Reportedly, both Ramya and Prem weren’t too keen to do this film with each other. But Ahwini Ram Prasad has a good rapport with Ramya and he also was on good terms with Prem. Now, this episode leaves only Ramya and producer Ahwini Ram Prasad on very good terms. Prem, who hopefully will play the title role in the movie Jothegara is ironically left with no companions who can lend a sympathetic ear to his grievances!

Still working on the next episode. We’ve had a bit of a heat wave lately, which has made recording impossible (unless you happen to like the sound of a loud air conditioner droning on in the background while I’m talking…) Fortunately it’s cooled down this weekend, plus we have a holiday on Monday (so no work, yay!) so I should be able to get something out soon. In the meantime, if you’re a Eureka Seven fan, you might want to pay attention to this little tidbit of news I picked up off the wire!

Bandai and NCM Fathom announced that, on September 24 at 7:30pm, they will be screening the new Eureka Seven movie, “Eureka Seven – Good Night, Sleep Tight, Young Lovers,” in various locations across the States. Tickets are currently on sale at Fathom Events’ website as well as the ticket offices of the theatres showing the film. A list of theatres participating in this event is available on Fathom Events’ website.

Not only will you get to see the film at this screening, but they also promise a special “behind the scenes” peek at how the film was made, as well as never-before-seen interviews with some of the English voice cast and crew.

Not too familiar with the Eureka Seven storyline, or did you fall behind in the series and need to catch up quickly? No worries – Crunchyroll has all 50 episodes available for streaming – in both sub AND dub versions! Now that’s what I call service! (No, not that kind of service…)

This is another version of the story of Renton and Eureka. For almost half a century, mankind has battled a mysterious organism from space called "Image." In 2054, there is a young soldier on board the fighter aircraft commanded by Holland, GEKKO, of the renegade group GEKKOSTATE, who is battling Image. The young soldier's name is Renton. He boards Nirvash and heads for the battlefield. He has only one dream: to rescue his childhood friend, Eureka, who was kidnapped eight years ago and return to his hometown. Fate, however, brings tribulations to test the young love between Renton and Eureka -- mission and emotion, truth and lie, past and future, life and death, reality and dream and even Holland - the entire world stand in the way of the two as the final battle with Image approaches. This program is not rated but should be treated as PG-13

.This time, the highly reputable Gotham Independent Film Awards announced this year's career tribute recipients. Being recognized for their work are Natalie Portman (coincidentally starring in the upcoming "Brothers"), Kathryn Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker"), Stanley Tucci ("Julia & Julia" and "The Lovely Bones") and producers Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner who have a ridiculously long list of impressive credits through their Working Title label including the upcoming "A Serious Man," "Frost/Nixon," "Fargo," "Atonement," "Four Weddings and a Funeral" and many, many more (both are long overdue for Oscars by the way).

Considered the first "true" awards event of the season (sorry Hollywood Film Awards), the Gothams will take place on Nov. 20 at Cipriani Wall Street in New Your City. Nominations for additional awards including Best Feature, Best Documentary, Breakthrough Director, Breakthrough Actor, Best Ensemble Performance and Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You will be announced October 19th. Those additional six categories will be voted on by the IFP membership which according to their release seems to be close to 10,000 members.

In other news, Newmarket Films has taken a dive into the deep end to acquire the rights to Jon Amiel's yawner of a Charles Darwin biopic "Creation." The opening night film at the Toronto Film Festival, the film was universally dismissed as a bore, of little commercial value and hardly a prestige or awards season player. Newmarket is no doubt hoping a campaign around Darwinism (which is ludicrous debate in 2009) and that the, um, star power of real life husband and wife Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly playing Mr. and Mrs. Darwin will help spark interest. Good luck with that.
