Robert Pattinson: Sexiest Man of 2010
by Kiran Pahwa on Fri, 10/22/2010

It is not for anything that girls of all ages have fallen hook line and sinker for the 'Twilight' star. If looks could kill then Robert Pattinson would surely be behind bars, or so think most girls around the world! On a serious note, the 24-year-old Hollywood hunk has bagged the top spot in the list of the sexiest men in the US in 2010. Defeating the likes of Johnny Depp, Gerard Butler and Taylor Lautner, Robert Pattinson has proved again that his killing vampire look which had won him the award last year too, has not faded away and he is still the sexiest man alive in the United States for the second year running.

The list has been prepared by the Glamour Magazine and going by the rankings, one can see that the new definition of being sexy is to play a vampire or a beast in Hollywood movies these days! Following Robert Pattinson, the famous vampire from “Twilight”, are Taylor Lautner, Xavier Samuel, Kellan Lutz and Ian Somerhalder, all actors have played vampires or beasts in recently released movies.

While many would still like to see classic looks like that of Brad Pitt and George Clooney featuring on the list, Glamour Magazine prefers to call younger actors sexy. Though Brad Pitt was at the bottom positions, George Clooney did not even feature on this year’s list!

Bipasha Basu: Role Slashed In Aakrosh But She Is Not Complaining!
by Kiran Pahwa on Fri, 10/22/2010

It’s never happened to her before. Though once in Phir Hera Pheri her voice had been dubbed without her permission and she was understandably upset, in her new release Aakrosh Bipasha Basu’s role has been cut substantially.

And Bips is not sulking!

In fact, she seems quite happy to be in the shadows.

Chuckles the actress, “I knew from the start that my role was comparatively small. But I wanted to be part of this film because I believed in it. When I saw the complete film for the first time with my family and friends earlier this week I realized my role had been edited out even more. Now I’m hardly there. Important things that I had shot have been removed.”
Naturally Bipasha’s family and friends were disappointed.

Says the actress, “I quickly took charge of the situation in the theater and told them to watch Aakrosh as an Ajay Devgn film. I told my friends, ‘Hey guys. Just enjoy the film for Ajay. Forget I’m there’. Sometimes it’s important to be part of a film that says something important. We live in the cities and half the time we don’t even know what’s going on in the backward areas. We city folks live a blinkered life. As an actor I am ashamed to say I’m not aware of the world as much as I should be.”

Aakrosh opened Bipasha’s eyes to a reality she didn’t know existed. “Though my role is the blink-and-miss kind I’ve no regrets about doing it. The greatest of actors do walk-on parts when they believe in a project. Aamir Khan entered Taare Zameen Par at mid-point. And John (Abraham) insisted on being a small part of Sooni Taraporewala’s Little Zizou because it was about football.”

'Do Dooni Char' was to highlight teachers' plight: Faizal
by Supreet Sharma on Fri, 10/22/2010

Mumbai, Oct 22 : Habib Faizal, who has made his directorial debut with "Do Dooni Chaar", says he wanted to highlight the plight of teachers in today's India and in future too he would like his movies to be rooted in the working class.

"I'd often wonder why our academicians are so underpaid. We live in an acquisitive world. In every city of India, kids look out of their home windows at big cars parked outside, wondering when they can get one of those," Faizal told IANS.

The character of the underpaid teacher is based on Faizal's own teacher Kewal Arora.

"I chose Delhi because it's a milieu I know well. But the me-too syndrome exists everywhere," says Faizal.

He fondly recalls how easily Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, who star in the film, blended into the locations in Delhi where they shot.

"Rishi Kapoor ceased to be the iconic star in Delhi. He became so much part of the Delhi-Punjabi milieu that soon plate-loads of delicious food started reaching our location from all the neighbours. That was a good thing. Because I had made it very clear to Rishiji that he was not supposed to lose even an ounce of his bulk. My protagonist Santosh Duggal had to be roly-poly," Faizal says.

He credits a lot of the film's efficacy to its lead.

"Once I had Rishiji and Neetuji playing protagonists, I had nothing to worry about. In 'Do Dooni Chaar', I wanted to bring forward the plight of our teachers. But not at the cost of entertainment value. First and foremost, I wanted audiences to like my film," he says.

He has no intention of doing issue-based films and says he doesn't even know when he'll direct his next movie. But he is sure about his priorities.

"I've a 14-year-old daughter whose future I have to secure. I do know that whatever I direct next will again be rooted to the working class and its desires and longings."

"But I am certainly not going to bring up the plight of a specific group of professionals in our country in every film I direct. 'Do Dooni Chaar' was about teachers being underpaid. My next film won't be about the life of doctors or engineers or call-centre workers. I don't want to become the Arthur Hailey of filmmaking," Faizal says.

Katy Perry getting married -Indian Maharani Style:
Katy Perry and Russell Brand are tying the knot this Saturday in true Indian Maharani style, at the luxurious Rambagh Palace in Jaipur, India, where the couple met a year ago. Katy is going all out with the Indian traditions for her wedding! The big day for Katy Perry and Russell Brand being less than 48 hours away, the bride-to-be has arrived at Jaipur, yesterday.

Katy was spotted wearing a nath –a nose ring attached to ear by a chain. In some parts of India, the bride traditionally wears a nath on her wedding day, which the groom removes after the wedding ceremony rituals are carried out and all the vows are taken. The removal of the nath symbolizes the end of the bride’s virginity.

Just to avoid the complications of piercing-like swelling, Katy got her nose piercing done at London – ahead of the big day.

According to latest reports, the procession will start at the gate of the hotel, with the groom, Russell Brand, sitting on a beautifully decorated horse being led by equally decorated camels and elephants. Folk dancers will welcome the couple with the songs, and dances, and fireworks, after which the bride and the groom will be ushered into the main garden for the wedding rituals - the whole nine-yards of the traditional kingly wedding scenario.

Some of their special invitees out of the 85 guests on the list have also started to arrive at the Palace, including David Walliams, and P Diddy, who will perform at the reception. Bride’s maid-of-honor, Rihanna has also arrived at Jaipur.

Vanessa Hudgens will Not be adopting the Jewish religion in an attempt to impress the parents of boyfriend Zac Efron.

Vanessa Hudgens Not Converting To Judaism
by Kiran Pahwa on Sat, 10/23/2010

Actress Vanessa Hudgens is not converting to Judaism. A representative of the actress has issued a statement to the media refuting claims that Vanessa Hudgens will be adopting the Jewish religion in an attempt to impress the parents of boyfriend Zac Efron. It was an US tabloid which first came up with the story that Vanessa Hudgens was leaving no stone unturned to become Mrs. Zac Efron, and that she can do whatever it takes to take that place including converting to Judaism. However, the representative claims that this piece of news is nothing but a rumor and that Vanessa Hudgens would never do something as vital as changing one’s religion for winning over Zac Efron.

The particular piece of news in the tabloid also claimed that the conversion to Judaism was an effort on the part of Vanessa Hudgens to show her boyfriend how committed she was in her love for him. However, it now seems that Hudgens is not so desperate after all to show her love for boyfriend Zac Efron!

The couple had first met on the sets of their film “High School Musical” and that was when love first bloomed. Zac Efron has often been heard saying that he is completely floored by the beauty of his girlfriend and that he feels shy to stand beside her because she is always so wonderfully dressed. Vanessa Hudgens on the other hand feels that it is his Tobacco Vanille perfume which attracts her towards Zac Efron.

Pakhi Wants An Early Entry Into Husband’s Film
by Kiran Pahwa on Sat, 10/23/2010

It pays to be the director’s wife, especially if you happen to be as spirited as Pakhi who makes her debut as a leading lady in Abbas Tyrewala’s Jhootha Hi Sahi. Pakhi’s character enters the narrative after more than 30 minutes of playing time. The debutante actress felt that was way too long to wait to be seen.

She has now convinced her director-husband to let the audience see her in a song sequence that comes much before her character was supposed to enter the plot.

Candid and unfussy Pakhi explains, “It isn’t as if a new song had been added to the narrative for my sake. The song was there all along. It was just repositioned in the narrative to come a earlier than scheduled.”

Pakhi is aware she’s getting a dream launch in her husband’s film, though not a conventional launch.

Says Pakhi, “I don’t enter the film in slow motion. Nor do I get into a costume change in every frame. I play a normal girl. And yes I am not the central character in Jhootha Hi Sahi. John Abraham’s character is far more central to the plot. I should know. I wrote the script.”

Not that Pakhi sees herself in every film she writes. Priyanka Chopra, an actress Pakhi admires, would be ideal in the next script. “I am not here to write films only for myself. After Jhootha Hi Sahi I’d be hopefully noticed by other scriptwriters and director and be cast in their films.”

Pakhi is very clear about making a career in acting. “I’m here to stay. At least that’s the intention. I’m aware Jhootha Hi Sahi is not the kind of launch that would make audiences go nuts about me. There aren’t too many stand-alone shots for me. During a large part of the narrative I am part of an ensemble.”

Folklore has it that Pakhi wrote Jhootha Hi Sahi only so she could share screen space with her college crush John Abraham. The spunky aspirant doesn’t deny she had a thing about John. “When I met him for the first time we exchanged pleasantries and then I walked straight into a French window. Luckily nothing got broken. But my crush did get crushed.”

There are intimate moments between John and Pakhi. And it must have been awkward to be directed in them by her husband.

Says Pakhi, “At the end of the day we were all professionals. And really, how much passion can you squeeze out of a love scene when you’re shooting in restricted areas of London where you have exactly 25 seconds before the director, who happens to be your husband, calls cut before we run off to avoid traffic?”

Oh, and Pakhi is Size 00P which in fashion parlance is a lot thinner than Size 0.

“It comes from being petite in frame and hitting the gym really hard to stay paper-thin,” says Pakhi who stays in a large family that takes care of her home while she pursues her acting aspirations.

Abbas and Pakhi are to move into their new home soon. “That got sinfully delayed because of Jhootha Hi Sahi. The film has taken three years of our life. Maybe now we can go back to doing what normal couples do,” ends Pakhi.

by Kiran Pahwa on Sat, 10/23/2010

Christina Aguilera is experiencing a bad phase in her life as she has filed a divorce to end her five-year-old marriage with music marketing executive Jordan Bratman. The divorce petition was filed on October 14, 2010.

The American pop singer has specified the date of separation with her husband as September 11, 2010. She has sought for a joint legal and physical custody for their two-year-old son Max.

There is a lot of speculation going on regarding the reason behind this divorce. There is a buzz that the main reason behind this separation was Christina’s lust for lesbian romps. Jordan was reportedly forced to divorce her due to her increasing lesbian inclination.

As per the gossip mills in Hollywood, the couple were in an ‘open’ relationship, where Christina was allowed to out go ahead with her female fantasies. However, lately Jordan, 33, started feeling jealous which led to the breakup.

The 29-year-old pop singer was reportedly taking consolation from her lesbian friend DJ Sam Ronson, who was the main reason behind this divorce. As per the industry insiders, they are considered as lovers as they were spotted getting very close at a party following Christina’s split with Jordan. But Christina has denied all these rumors saying that she is just a good friend. She has termed it as a dirty trick by her beau to attain good ground in this divorce battle.

Well, the truth will come out sooner or later!

Anne Hathaway Asks Director Edward Zwick To Get Naked To Give Her Company For A Naked Shot
by Kiran Pahwa on Sat, 10/23/2010

Anne Hathaway has no problem going naked on the set – as long as she is not the only one; the actress confided in the November issue of Vogue.

Talking about her experience on the sets of ‘Love and Other Drugs’, a comedy/drama by Edward Zwick, co-starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a Viagra salesman; Anne admitted she was having very tough time stripping on the sets. “Some people don’t have any trouble taking off their clothes. May be their bodies are their currency,” Anne told the fashion mag.

The 27-year-old star of ‘Rachel Getting Married’ however, was completely falling apart going nude during the shoot; to the point that finally exasperated director Edward Zwick came up from behind the camera and asked her what she wanted him to do to make her comfortable. As the buzz goes, Anne’s prompt reply was, “You take your clothes off!”

The dismayed director complied with the actress’s demand, took off his clothes and got into bed with the two stars and posed for photographs with them to dissipate the tension! Of course, later on, the art director had to photo-shop the director out of the picture to use it as the poster for the movie.

Though, this was not the first time that Jake Gyllenhaal had to deal with an emotionally terrified female co-star of exposing their vulnerability. As the word goes, Gwyneth Paltrow was an equal mess during the shoot of their 2005 movie “Proof”, what with her pregnancy and all.

“Love and Other Drugs” is slated to premier on 24th November.

Watch & Read Review ‘Dus Tola’ is one of those simply told folk stories that are passed from one generation to the next.

Review Of Dus Tola: The Victory Of Goodness Over Greed
by Kiran Pahwa on Sat, 10/23/2010

Director: Ajoy Verma
Starring: Manoj Bajpai, Aarti Chhabria, Siddharth Makkar, Pallavi Sharda, Govind Namdeo, Asrani, Dilip Prabhavalkar.
Rating: **

It seems that Bollywood is slowly turning its attention to the rural scene, this year there have been a string of movies based on this subject. Directed by Ajoy Verma, ‘Dus Tola’ is one of those simply told folk stories that are passed from one generation to the next. Co-produced by the Warner Bros studios, this movie holds a lot of promise to the audience.

Set in Sonarpur, the story of ‘Dus Tola’ revolves around the time-tested theory of the victory of goodness over greed. ‘Dus Tola’ aims to pull the heart strings of the average Indian who is still true to his/her roots. The film revolves around some of the colorful characters in the quiet and non-descript town of Sonarpur. Manoj Bajpai plays the role of Shankar, a goldsmith who is madly in love with his neighbor’s daughter Suvarnalata (played by Aarti Chhabria). Everything is not hunky dory as it might seem because there is a major hurdle in their union.

Suvarnalata’s father Daya Shastri (played by Dilip Prabhavalkar) is not very happy with this match and wants to get a bridegroom from Dubai who would gift lots of gold jewellery to his little princess. According to Daya Shastri, marrying his daughter off to a good family will help him climb up the social ladder and gain more respect.

On the other hand, our protagonist Shankar is not ready to give up that easily. Fate throws a lot of obstacles on his path but armed with his unique philosophy towards life Shankar keeps moving forward. ‘Dus Tola’ is a light hearted rural story that depicts the true nature of our society from a different perspective.

Manoj Bajpai has done a commendable job as the simple goldsmith and looks very convincing in his role indeed. Aarti Chhabria’s acting skills are not something that you will still talk about after leaving the movie hall but it gets the job done nonetheless. Dilip Prabhavalkar as Daya Shastri is one of the best supporting actors in the cast. The film does become a bit monotonous towards the end but it still manages to hold on to the audience’s attention.

Varma cancels Anantapur visit as "Rakta Charitra" hits screen
by Supreet Sharma on Fri, 10/22/2010

Hyderabad, Oct 22 :Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma cancelled his visit to Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district on the advice of the police as the town remained tense because of the release of his controversial film "Rakta Charitra" Friday.

Varma was planning to watch the movie in a theatre in Anantapur town. The film, based on the factional war between two families in Anantapur, is the talk of the town as the followers of both the families are waiting to see if their leaders are projected right and as heroes or villains.

The trilingual film in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil revolves around the feud between gangster politicians Paritala Ravi and Suryanarayana Reddy alias Maddelachervu Suri. It stars Vivek Oberoi, Surya and Shatrughan Sinha in key roles.

Ravi, a former minister and leader of the main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in the state, was gunned down in 2005 allegedly by the followers of Congress leader Suri, who is currently in jail for the bomb blast in Hyderabad's posh Jubilee Hills.

Police have made elaborate arrangements at the theatres in Anantapur district to prevent any clash between the two groups. The Bharatiya Janata Party, some student groups and NGOs are also staging protests against the screening of the movie.

Anantapur Superintendent of Police Manish Kumar Sinha said adequate security arrangements have been made to maintain law and order.

Ravi's widow and TDP legislator Paritala Sunita is unhappy that Varma did not show her the film before release though he promised to during the shooting. She also turned down his invitation to watch the preview in Hyderabad.

Suri's followers are also keeping their fingers crossed on how their hero and his relative Obul Reddy are projected in the movie.

Varma had met Sunita and also called on Suri in jail. He also visited Anantapur a number of times to shoot the movie.

The movie triggered a row much before the release with peace activists and NGOs opposing it on the ground that it could lead to a fresh spell of violence. They accused Varma of making factionist statements through the movie and appealed to the people to reject it.

Locals also raised objection to Varma using the name of the district in the film. The protests forced him to change the name to Anandapuram.

Paritala Ravi was allegedly gunned down in Anantapur town Jan 24, 2005, by Suri's followers.

Suri had earlier made an attempt to kill Ravi in 1997 at the Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad. Though Ravi escaped unhurt, 25 people were killed and many injured in the bomb blast.

Anantapur district is part of the backward Rayalaseema region, notorious for factional killings. Factions backed by political parties have been engaged in bloody battles for decades for supremacy in villages, especially in Anantapur district.

The factionists are notorious for the merciless manner in which they eliminate their rivals. More than 500 people have been killed in the factional violence over the past 15 years.

Habib Faizal 's Directorial Debut Not Under Yashraj Banner!
by Kiran Pahwa on Fri, 10/22/2010

It seems strange that the director of this week’s much-acclaimed film Do Dooni Chaar chose to make his directorial debut away from his home-ground the Yashraj banner. The Do Dooni Chaar director Habib Faizal, who has written a number of films for Yashraj Films and proclaims great proximity to Aditya Chopra, strangely chose to make his directorial debut with another producer (Planman Films).

When questioned about it, the soft-spoken product of Delhi’s Jamia Millia university argues, “I could’ve easily made my first film with Adi. He’s so close to me that he has guided me through every stop of Do Dooni Chaar. Not just Adi but also his dad, Mr. Yash Chopra. When Yashji saw my film he said, ‘You’ve made a very real very interesting film.’ Coming from someone whose films like Dharmputra, Waqt, Kala Patthar and Deewaar moulded my interest in cinema, that compliment meant the world to me. So yes, I could have any time made a film for that banner.”

So what made Habib, who had written a number of Yashraj Films including Siddharth Anand’s Ta Ra Rum Pum & Salaam Namaste and Shaad Ali’s Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom turn to another producer for his directorial debut?

Says Habib, who has also served as a television journalist (for NDTV) before turning to scriptwriting, “At the time when I thought I was ready to direct my first film Adi was completely consumed by his own film Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. There was no way I could slip my own film into the banner. Like I said, I can go back and direct another film for YashRaj any time I want. In fact I’ve also written Yashraj’s Band Baja Baraat which is currently being directed by my friend Maneesh Sharma.”

But here’s the thing. Aditya Chopra was directing a film that went into the same mind space and cultural specificity as Habib Faizal. Both Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Do Dooni Chaar were set in a Punjabi milieu. The protagonist was a working class Punjabi on a scooter and with a moustache.

No wonder Habib had to quietly take his creativity elsewhere. He fondly recalls how easily Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh blended into the locations in Delhi where they shot. “Rishi Kapoor ceased to be the iconic star in Delhi. He became so much part of the Delhi-Punjabi milieu that soon plate-loads of delicious food started reaching our location from all the neighbours. That was a good thing. Because I had made it very clear to Rishiji that he was not supposed to lose even an ounce of his bulk. My protagonist Santosh Duggal had to be roly-poly.”

The character of the underpaid teacher is based on Habib’s own teacher Kewal Arora. Says Habib, “I’d often wonder why our academicians are so underpaid. We live in an acquisitive world. In every city of India kids look out of their home windows at big cars parked outside wondering when they can get one of those. I chose Delhi because it’s a milieu I know well. But the me-too syndrome exists everywhere.”

Habib credits a lot of the film’s efficacy to his lead. “Once I had Rishiji and Neetuji playing my protagonists I had nothing to worry about. In Do Dooni Chaar I wanted to bring forward the plight of our teachers. But not at the cost of the entertainment value. First and foremost I wanted audiences to like my film.”

Habib has no intention of doing purposely issue-based films. “I don’t even know when I will direct my next film. The urge has to come to me. Not that I can afford to chill while the inspiration to direct hits me. I’ve a 14-year-old daughter whose future I have to secure. I do know whatever I direct next will again be rooted to the working class and its desires and longings. But I am certainly not going to bring up the plight of a specific group of professionals in our country in every film I direct. Do Dooni Chaar was about teachers being underpaid. My next film won’t be about the life of doctors, or engineers or call-centre workers. I don’t want to become the Arthur Hailey of film making.”

And that is exactly what Krishna Shah did when he had the script of a film based on the life story of Baiju Bawra, the gypsy singer in hand. The film being stalled for a long time now, reports claim that it was music composer A R Rahman who inspired Krishna Shah to not only resume work on the Baiju Bawra project but also approach actor Aamir Khan for the lead role in the film. And it was then that the director offered the role of Baiju Bawra to the talented Khan who is known for choosing his roles with utmost care.

However the latest reports from Bollywood claim that Aamir Khan may not be a part of the upcoming movie as things did not work out between him and Krishna Shah. And now that the actor is no longer a part of his project, Krishna Shah, who is also the producer of the untitled Baiju Bawra project, plans to sell the script of his yet untitled project to a different director who will do justice to the film.

The Baiju Bawra project had been shelved by Krishna Shah because he was busy with his work on Mother: The Indira Gandhi Story. Reports claim that the film based on the life of Baiju Bawra was touted as one of the most extravagant films in respect of visual effects used in Bollywood.

Colors TV moves court against 'Bigg Boss' ouster from Lonavala
by Supreet Sharma on Fri, 10/22/2010

Mumbai, Oct 22: The Colors TV channel Friday moved the Bombay High Court against the Lonavala Municipal Council's (LMC) eviction orders to its reality show "Bigg Boss-4".

A channel spokesperson said a writ petition has been filed with the Bombay High Court after the civic council's CEO Yogesh Godse served it a notice to stop the shooting of the show in Lonavala and vacate the premises.

The petition - in which the channel has sought a stay on the LMC order - is expected to come up for hearing later Friday, according to the channel spokesperson.

The LMC gave a jolt to Colors TV Thursday, ordering it to stop the shooting of "Bigg Boss-4" and move out of the premises as the channel's documents were not in order.

In the notice, the LMC pointed out that despite repeated reminders, the channel had not submitted the requisite documents and maps of the property where the shooting is being done.

Accordingly, the permission and no-objection certificate for the shooting could not be granted, the notice added.

It ordered the channel management to immediately stop the shooting, failing it would initiate necessary legal proceedings.

"The channel has been told to pack up shooting today (Thursday) itself and move out of the hill station, as per our demands last week. We had objected to the presence of the two Pakistani celebrities on the show which has created a law and order problem here," Prakash Porwal, Pune district treasurer of social worker Anna Hazare's Bhrashtachar Virodhi Jan Andolan Nyas, told IANS.

Porwal pointed out that the LMC had already issued permission and no-objection certificate to the channel for the shooting on the abandoned factory premises of Anti-Friction Bearings Company Ltd.

He claimed the civic council's move came after he served a notice to Yogesh Godse Oct 12, threatening to drag him to court for violating the provisions of change of user - by permitting the shooting for "Bigg Boss-4" - which goes against a Bombay High Court ruling.

"Some time ago, the Bombay High Court had ruled that change of user would not be permitted for any property in the town's jurisdiction. The venue where the shooting is being held is an old factory which has now been hired for commercial purposes. We have raised objections to this," Porwal told IANS.

Besides, Porwal added that the presence of the Bigg Boss team had shattered the peace and calm of the quiet hill-station, around 120 km from Mumbai.

The town has seen a shutdown, several protests by the Shiv Sena, and fortress-like security since more than a fortnight after the shooting for "Bigg Boss-4" started.

'Rakta Charitra' and 'Jhootha Hi Sahi' Fight It Out; 'Hissss' Follows
by Kiran Pahwa on Fri, 10/22/2010

Rakta Charitra' has been projected for what it is which means that audience has been well prepared for the violent saga that lies ahead. Since the film's subject is not quite universal and has a niche appeal to it, a terrific opening is ruled out. With such challenges ahead, it would turn out to be a pleasant surprise if the film manages anything over a 50% opening. The film can take solace from the fact though that there is no major release for two weeks till Diwali which means that it has a potential to grow with good reviews and word of mouth.

Jhootha Hi Sahi should take a better start though but still not the kind that makes it safe overnight. The biggest issue here is the music which has just not managed to pick up despite a 6 weeks window that it got for its promotion. The film is a solo starrer with John Abraham as the only star attraction, the leading lady (Pakhi) is new, the director (Abbas Tyrewala) is being looked at with quite some cynicism due to this being his first outing outside Aamir Khan productions, the subject isn't really universal and the buzz is just about okay as well. All of this means that Jhootha Hi Sahi too would have to rely a lot upon word of mouth to make any impression whatsoever.

Hissss doesn't have much going in its favour though. The promos have been out and out tacky, Mallika Sherawat has totally lost her audience in the last 3-4 years gone by, the 'naagin' theme is a story of the past (pun intended) and the publicity design has been violent enough to put off a majority of audience. With no pre-release buzz or any other positive word being thrown about the film, Hissss comes with a good probability of going 'fussss'.

As for the fourth release of the week, Dus Tola couldn't have chosen a worse time period for its arrival. Leave aside poor promotion, the fact is that there has been no awareness created about this Manoj Bajpai & Aarti Chabria starrer. No one knows what the story is all about, what exactly is the setting, its genre and its USP. Dus Tola sadly has turned out to be one of those films that see an inconsequential arrival. While one wishes that the film could have been releases in a better time period, the sad truth is that it would face difficulty in facing the competition (even though not mighty but at least in terms of sheer quantity) around itself.

WIFW gets grander with bigger venue, 115 designers
by Supreet Sharma on Fri, 10/22/2010

New Delhi, Oct 22 - Its biggest ever venue promises to make the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) - which kicks off Saturday - a grand affair this time. With 115 designers set to showcase their collections, it is expected to be low on glamour and high on fashion.

Top names like Abraham and Thakore, Ashish Soni, Ashima-Leena, JJ Valaya, Kotwara by Meera and Muzaffar Ali, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Ranna Gill, Ritu Beri, Rohit Bal, Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna, Tarun Tahiliani and Wendell Rodricks will be displaying at business-to-business event at Pragati Maidan in central Delhi.

Those participating in WIFW have always loved the vicinity of Hall No. 7. But this time, with the venue shifting to Hall No. 18, designers are set in for a sweet surprise.

Earlier in that single hall, there used to be a set-up of exhibition area, two main-show areas (MSA), lounges, a media centre, dining area and backstage as well.

But now, huge space at Hall No. 18 will be a high point of this five-day extravaganza that will start Saturday and go on till Oct 27.

Sunil Sethi, president of the Fashion Design Council of India that organises the event, said it was a matter of coming out of the "comfort zone".

"We were so much in our comfort zone at Hall No. 7 as we knew where we had to put MSAs, where the exhibition was and every other detail. But here, when we had to start from scratch - we had to do planning, make layout changes," Sethi told IANS.

Spread over an area of 11,633 sq m, this is the biggest ever venue for WIFW and the look has been enhanced by light arrangements, installations and photo exhibitions, giving it an international feel.

The roof of the venue is in the shape of a dome and is divided into two levels - an exhibition area and lounges on the ground and main show areas at the first level. It will give a spectacular view to guests who can see the exhibition area from the waiting area at the first level.

The shift has caused a bit of apprehension.

"There is a difference in how things look on paper and in doing them. Like we wanted to keep the media centre on the first level but couldn't do it because we had wiring issues; so it is just an example. A new place requires more attention because there is always a possibility of things going wrong," Sethi said.

His words are reminiscent of the fiasco during the autumn/winter edition of WIFW in March this year when day one of the event had to be scrapped because organisers had failed to get a fire safety permit.

At that time, FDCI had to change the venue to the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) Exhibition Complex, as no halls were available due to the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games.

But this time, Sethi says, all precautions are being taken to ensure things are smooth. "We have got a special fire retardant for fabrics and we are doing all possible to make this event a success," he said.

As fashion weeks all over India have been overloaded with the presence of Bollywood celebrities, Sethi promises the focus will be more on fashion and very little on glamour.

There will be some activities like a fashion quiz and fashion awards. Celebrities like Deepika Padukone, Sonakshi Sinha, Ayesha Takia, Kalki Koechlin and Jaquelin Fernandes will be present at the WIFW.

Dorian, 66, was arrested immediately after the shooting Saturday night and is still in jail on $1 million bail.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that the couple were having an argument when the U.S. model allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired at least one shot into her boyfriend's upper chest."vetri bee girls
