PUZHAL SYNOPSIS:
Puzhal arounds Three youths, who have been jailed for crimes of varying degree and for periods of varying incarceration, meet each other accidentally inside the prison campus and develop an odd friendship between them.
The trio gets released and what they plan to do afterwards forms the crux of the story of ‘Puzhal’.

Tamizh Amudhan is producing a film titled Puzhal under the banner Classic Movies. He has also written the story and dialogues. Azhagu is directing this film. Nalla Thambi is composing the music for this film.

The audio launch of this film was held recently in Chennai. Tamil Nadu Labour Welfare Minister Tha Mo Anbarasan released the audio CD which was received by music composer Ganesh.
Many of the important film personalities including Sivasakthi Pandian, G Sekaran, K Sundar MLA and Snegan participated in this function.
Director Azhagu while speaking about this film said,” Three youngsters who were free birds become prisoners. How their life changes after this and whether their love materializes is the story of this film. Hemachandran, Mano, Murali, Archana, Aswatha and Sona Singh are starring in this film.”
Tamizh Amudhan is making a movie titled Puzhal below the poster typical cinema.

He has as well printed the tale and conversations. Azhagu is directing this movie. Nalla Thambi is creating the melody for this movie.

Super star Salman Khan and former Miss World Aishwarya have always kept away from each other after they got separated. But, the thing that they can’t help is the release date of their movie which is expected to clash.

It is heard that Ash-Rajnikanth starrer ‘Robot’ and Salman-Sonaksi starrer ‘Dabangg’ is coming out at the same time. The release date for both the films is on the day of Eid, but the makers of Ash starrer movie have been holding the release due to this fact.

A Trade observer adds, “The makers of the Ash-Rajnikanth starrer have been holding the release plans of the film pretty close to their heart. However the trade was getting enough hints that the film would arrive along with Salman’s film. With the festive season at its peak around this time, both the films wanted to make the best of this period.”

But, it is heard that to avert such a situation Ash’s film has been moved to a further date saying that some patch work is required to be done in the movie. The fear for the moviemakers is that both are Hindi movies and will affect each other’s business if released on the same date.

Meanwhile, Arbaaz Khan, producer of ‘Dabangg’ adds, “Even I had heard earlier that Rajnikanth’s film was coming on the same date as mine. However, I wasn’t worried because this date (around Eid) falls at such a good time that two big films can release simultaneously. There is place for everyone.”

He further adds, “Ultimately people make their own choices and the better film will stand tall. Of course, one film, whether ours or theirs, would have suffered a bit had there been a clash. One can’t stop another film from releasing on the same date. You don’t own a date. We have worked very hard on our film and that’s what matters.”

Now, the release of ‘Dabangg’ and ‘Robot’ has taken another form and one has to see that who ultimately wins the race, Ash or Salman?

Ajith Kumar’s desperate need of hits has urged him to opt for an abrupt change now. The actor has decided to sign more projects and at least come up with couple of releases a year. He has already started vigorously on his next movie ‘Mankatha’ that will start rolling from September 5. Meanwhile, we hear it from the closer sources that he is holding talks with director Vijay for next project.

According to the sources, it will be a period film set in unusual backdrops. It’s not all the same as we expect it to be either a romantic tale or a revolt for independence. The film is reported to be focalizing on trade and commerce during 17th century.

It’s worth mentioning that Ajith Kumar was supposed to work on a period thriller titled ‘Thuppariyum Anand’ with Gowtham Menon. Due to some unavoidable constraints, the project has been shelved.

Vasu would be held on September 18, the birthday of Kannada film industry’s legendary actor who breathed his last year on December 30. The film’s producer Krishna Prajwal has at last decided to organise this silver jubilee function on September 18 to be held at Kanteerava Indoor Stadium.

According to sources more than 240 shields are now under preparation which includes shields to be distributed to various artists and technicians who had worked for the film and also the distributors and theatre owners screening the film. Ms. Bharathi Vishnuvardhan would also be present in the function.

The Story :

Director Solairaja, who made many a popular serial on small screen, has tested waters in the tinsel town with a film that speaks about the egos, friendship and camaraderie among children.
Set in the backdrop of a dance competition between students, the movie harps about the innocence of children, their agony and frustration.
Though Solairaja has tried his hand at such an interesting theme, what the movie lacks is the way the director has executed it. It sounds clichéd and predictable at many places.
Sanjeev of ‘Kulir 100 Degree’ plays the lead role while debutant Chetna is cast as his ladylove. The film boasts of star cast that includes Sampath Kumar, Master Rinson, Master Sachin, Singamuthu, Nellai Siva and Manobala among others.
The movie begins in a school campus where Surya (Sanjeev) comes to join as aerobics instructor. The school is owned by Sampath (Sampath Kumar), the chairman of a group of educational institutions, and an influential man in town.
Surya develops affinity with Diya (Chetna), a relative of Sampath who is also a dance teacher there. Meanwhile, a poor boy Karthick (Rinson) manages to get admission in the school thanks to Surya.
An intelligent boy, he incurs the wrath of Siddharth (Sachin), son of chairman of the school who studies in the same class. Karthik’s mother falls sick and he needs Rs. Five lakh to do surgery for her. Comes a dance contest carrying cash award of Rs 10 lakh which Karthik wants to do. Siddharth comes in between and poses hurdles.
Eventually with Surya’s help Karthik gets admitted to another school. Surya, Karthi and others take it as challenge and prepare themselves for the competition. Meanwhile Diya walks out from the house to be with Surya. It’s finals between Siddharth and Karthik and the best wins.
The movie boasts of enough dance sequences. There are some fun elements in the form of children getting ready for dance contests. Sanjeev looks cool and suave while Chetna is okay. Sampathraj as usual does his job well. All the kids have played well.
Music by Sriram Vijay is good especially the theme music. Premshankar’s cinematography is breezy. All said ‘Neeyum Nanum’ is like watching a dance contest on a television channel which impresses you in parts.

Shankar’s ‘3 Idiots’ remake in 6 months

Guess what? It’s a big surprise from director Shankar as he assures of completing his next film within a short span of 6-7months. Director Shankar’s films usually get along for a longer duration of not less than couple of years. It’s patently for his unique grandiloquence’s prevalent both in his technical and narrative panoramas.

But this time, he’s sure to strike with a surprise of delivering the same grand ornamentations, but at a different style. According to cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa, he has assured that Shankar will be completing his ‘3 Idiots’ by 6 months as producers have planned to release the film in April-May 2011.

In a recent interview, cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa has mentioned that Shankar’s remake project will be a quickie, but will have the same rich grandness as in his previous movies. It looks like Jeeva and Arya will be playing the other lead characters along with Vijay as Simbhu and Maddy have walked out of the film.

Moscowin Kaveri story is about two lovers who are as different as Tamil Nadu’s Kaveri and Moscow’s Moscow River. The Moscow River is cool and placid, whereas Kaveri River is warm and has strong currents.

Moscowin Kaveri Reviews:
The very title ‘Moscowin Kaveri’ engrossed us as Ravivarman promised of an intensely romantic movie. The loveliest wild rivers have been metaphorically named as film’s lead characters. While Kaveri it’s a common name for any girl, it’s absurd to spot a guy’s name as Moscow. The basic plot of ‘Moscowin Kaveri’ itself is trite and banal as the egoistic clashes between a boy and girl isn’t something new. On the pars, cinematographer Ravivarman has perplexed the audiences with too many parallel sequences in a disordered narration.

Moscow (Rahul) and Kaveri (Samantha) the IT works fall in love and follow ‘Living Together’ policy (Ravivarman projects the present-age lifestyle of youngsters). The difference of opinions, misunderstandings and other constraints blow up their egoistic outbursts. The parallel tale reveals about a criminal stabbing down a cop’s wife and kid. These stories intercross towards the penultimate sequences with a predictable proceedings and an ordinary climax.

Actor Rahul suits well for the role of a modern IT professional and does his part well. Newcomer Harshvardhan as the intruding character goes with a best spell. But spotting him with blazers all throughout the film looks unrealistic. Samantha looks cute (this was supposed to be her first film) and Ravi Varman has tried capturing her sans makeover during few sequences. In fact, it works well with her looks. Director Seeman appears in a cameo with his real life advocacies of going against westernization. Thanks to Santhanam! He really refreshes the audiences with his minimal role during second half.

Technically, Thaman’s background score and songs are at its best. Ravivarman’s cinematography is excellent as he captures every shot with excellence. Thota Tharani’s art works embellishes the screen with his rich set decorations. Anthony’s editing is worst as there are whole lots of discontinuities.

If done with a better screenplay and a careful narration, the film would have at least scored passing marks. As of now, it’s best to avoid this film.

The producers could have directly released the film on satellite channels or Home Videos. It’s not worth spending money for the tickets for this show.

Warner Bros. has picked up The Pacific creator Bruce C. McKenna's latest pitch The Battle of Midway, which will be a 3D film that centers on the June 4-6, 1942, turning point of World War II, reports Deadline.

The project is being fast tracked, with a rumored budget of around $200 million.

The Battle of Midway took place six months after the demoralizing surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. When it was over, the supremacy of the Imperial Japanese Navy was lost along with 4 of its aircraft carriers and 1 heavy cruiser. The Japanese never recovered.

No production date has been set.

Ghostbusters 3 to Feature Peter Venkman's Love Child?

We haven't heard much about the highly-anticipated Ghostbusters 3 for quite some time, but now Bloody-Disgusting has uncovered some intriguing new information about the impending sequel. The site reports that Bill Murray's Peter Venkman was actually the father of Dana Barrett's (Sigourney Weaver) newborn son Oscar, who was introduced in Ghostbusters 2.

The site goes onto report that Oscar will be 21 years of age in this new film, and that he will be one of the younger crop of Ghostbusters that will take over the business from the original four characters, Venkman, Egon Spangler (Harold Ramis) Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) and Winston Zeddmore (Ernie Hudson).

Bloody-Disgusting is also reporting that Rick Moranis is expected to come out of retirement to reprise his role of Louis Tully and that Sigourney Weaver is expected to return for Ghostbusters 3 as well. It was also reported that, "things are progressing nicely" on the sequel, although no production start date for the sci-fi comedy has been revealed.

Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky is now a contender to direct X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2, according to Deadline New York.

We reported on Friday that directors David Slade and Robert Schwentke were in the running to direct the superhero sequel, but now Deadline New York is reporting that Robert Schwentke has dropped out of the race, with Darren Aronofsky stepping in as a potential director.

David Slade is still considered the favorite to direct X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2, but star Hugh Jackman does have a lot of clout on the project and could very well side with Darren Aronofsky, whom he worked with on The Fountain.

The site is also reporting that Battle: Los Angeles director Jonathan Liebesman is currently in talks with Warner Bros. to direct their upcoming sequel Clash of the Titans 2. We reported back in June that Jonathan Liebesman was one of the directors being considered to replace original Clash of the Titans director Louis Leterrier, and now the studio seems to be moving in that direction. Our original report from June indicated that Warner Bros. was eyeing a January 2011 start date for Clash of the Titans 2, but that date may change.

LOS ANGELES: George Clooney on Sunday added another trophy to his Oscar, two Golden Globes and slew of movie critics awards -- but this one had nothing to do with acting.

Clooney was presented with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at the Primetime Emmy Awards for his work to raise awareness of the crisis in Darfur, and fund-raising efforts for causes ranging from Hurricane Katrina to the Haiti earthquake and the victims of the September 11 2001 attacks on New York and Washington DC.

"It's important to remember how much good can get done because we live in such strange times where bad behavior sucks up all of the attention and the press," Clooney said as he accepted the award.

The actor said he hoped there were others who could step in and "help find a way to keep the spotlight burning on these heart-breaking situations that continue to be heartbreaking long after the cameras go away."

Television Academy chairman John Shaffner said Clooney, 49, was "an obvious choice" for the humanitarian award because he had "understood and harnessed the power of television...to reach into the hearts of people around the world."

Clooney, one of the most popular figures in Hollywood, was one of the main organizers of charity telethons for victims of the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti, and Hurricane Katrina which devastated New Orleans in August 2005.

He was appointed a United Nations Messenger of Peace in 2008 and in 2006 addressed the United Nations Security Council over the refugee crisis in Sudan's conflict-torn western Darfur region, which has taken the lives of more than 300,000 people.

Backstage, Clooney talked about how the award differed from his previous accolades for acting and writing.

"It's embarrassing because you don't want to be awarded for doing what you're supposed to do," he said. "It's a very kind thing, so you accept it. But it's very hard to take."

Clooney, who first found fame on television as the handsome Dr. Doug Ross in hospital drama "ER", has never won a traditional Emmy Award, although he was nominated twice for his work in "ER" in 1995 and 1996.

He won a best supporting actor Oscar for his role in the 2005 movie "Syriana".

The Bob Hope Humanitarian Award was created in 2002 in memory of the late entertainer. Previous recipients include Oprah Winfrey and Bill Cosby.

KARACHI: The Interior Ministry is sending Federal Investigation Agency officials to London to probe the allegation of the involvement of Pakistani cricketers in spot-fixing in the fourth cricket Test match against England at Lords.

The three-member delegation would fly to London immediately as the government had taken serious notice of the latest fixing scandal to involve Pakistan team, Interior Minister Rehman Malik told reporters.

"The FIA delegation will be headed by an additional director and they will not only assist but also carry out their own inquiries into the allegations made against our players," Malik said.

He pointed out that the government wanted to know the truth about the allegations against the players through its own investigating agency.

"The Scotland Yard is doing its own investigations, our team is there to assist them and also independently find out what has happened," Malik said.

COLOMBO: Doctors have removed 13 nails and five needles from a Sri Lankan housemaid who said her employer in Saudi Arabia hammered them into her body.

LP Ariyawathie, 49, told staff at Kamburupitiya Hospital her employer inflicted the injuries as a punishment.

X-rays showed that there were 24 nails and needles in her body. Doctors said those remaining inside her body posed no immediate threat to her life.

The nails were up to 2in (5cm) long, a hospital official said.

"The surgery is successful and she is recovering now," Dr Satharasinghe said, according to news agency Associated Press.

Ms Ariyawathie, a mother of three, underwent a three-hour procedure.

Doctors said they would carry out further surgery later to remove the remaining nails.

Ms Ariyawathie travelled to Saudi Arabia in March to become a housemaid.

Last week, she flew back to Sri Lanka and was admitted to hospital in the south of the island, where she told doctors she had undergone abuse for more than a month.

The doctors found 24 metal pieces in her legs and hands.

She could not sit down or walk properly, doctors said.

They said Ms Ariyawathie was deeply traumatised and unable to give full details of her experience.

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan authorities have launched an investigation.

"We have launched a strong protest with the Saudi government through the external affairs minister, but there has been no response yet," Kingsley Ranawaka, chairman of Bureau for Foreign Employment, told the media.

Around 1.8 million Sri Lankans are employed abroad, 70% of whom are women.

Most work as housemaids in the Middle East, while smaller numbers work in Singapore and Hong Kong.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday promised "prompt and decisive action" if allegations of spot-fixing by Pakistan players.

LONDON: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday promised "prompt and decisive action" if allegations of spot-fixing by Pakistan players in the fourth Test against England were proven.

Neither the ICC nor the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have suspended the players involved in the allegedly deliberate bowling of no-balls here at Lord's during the final Test of a four-match series.

But ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said in a statement issued Monday: "The integrity of the game is of paramount importance.

"Prompt and decisive action will be taken against those who seek to harm it.

"However, the facts must first be established through a thorough investigation and it is important to respect the right of due process when addressing serious allegations of this sort.

"Make no mistake - once the process is complete, if any players are found to be guilty, the ICC will ensure that the appropriate punishment is handed out. We will not tolerate corruption in this great game," added Lorgat, who said the ICC were conducting their own enquries into the allegations.

Pakistan's tour is continuing with a one-day match against county side Somerset on Thursday and the players who have been under investigation could yet play in that fixture at Taunton and in the first of two Twenty20 internationals against England in Cardiff this coming Sunday.

Meanwhile Lorgat insisted: "The ICC, ECB and PCB are committed to a zero-tolerance approach to corruption in cricket.

"All allegations of betting irregularities or fixing of matches or incidents within matches are investigated thoroughly by the ICC's internationally respected Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) and this case is no different."

The South African added: "Currently, senior ACSU investigators are in the United Kingdom conducting enquiries into the allegations directed at some Pakistan players during the recently concluded Test against England at Lord's.

"That investigation has the full support and co-operation of the ECB and PCB. In addition, ACSU officials are assisting London's Metropolitan Police with their criminal investigation.

"Led by Sir Ronnie Flanagan (the former Northern Ireland police chief) the ACSU is the most respected and experienced such unit in world sport and it has at its disposal a robust and far-reaching anti-corruption code that all ICC members support and are bound by."

The scandal broke when Britain's News of the World newspaper claimed last Sunday it had paid fixer Mazhar Majeed 150,000 pounds (230,000 dollars, 185,000 euros) for advance details of three Pakistan no-balls at Lord's as part of a sting operation.

Majeed, a 35-year-old who is an agent for several Pakistan players, was arrested by police on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud bookmakers in the wake of the report but was released on bail late last Sunday.

Scotland Yard interviewed Pakistan captain Salman Butt and wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal plus star strike bowlers Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif, who bowled the no-balls -- normally an accidental and unpredictable occurrence -- in question.

Butt, Asif and 18-year-old Aamer all had their mobile phones seized.

Pakistan lost the fourth Test by an innings and 225 runs -- their heaviest Test defeat -- and with it the series 3-1 at Lord's on Sunday.

LOS ANGELES – Hollywood is finishing its summer with record revenue but the lowest actual movie attendance in five years.

Domestic receipts from the first weekend in May through the upcoming Labor Day weekend should come in at about $4.35 billion — $100 million more than the record set last year, according to Paul Dergarabedian, box-office analyst for Hollywood.com.

Attendance is down because of a steep rise in ticket prices, heavily due to a surge in 3-D screenings, which cost a few dollars more than regular movie admissions.

Through Labor Day, the actual number of tickets sold during the summer season is expected to come in at 552 million, the lowest since 563.2 million tickets were sold in summer 2005, Dergarabedian estimated Monday.

Ticket prices this year are averaging $7.88, according to the National Association of Theatre Owners. That's up 38 cents, or 5 percent, from 2009.

"To have record revenue built on the back of much higher ticket prices, in a way, it's kind of a shallow victory. You want to see attendance go up every year, not down," Dergarabedian said.

The summer delivered some huge crowd-pleasers, led by Disney's "Toy Story 3," which followed "Shrek 2" as just the second animated film to top $400 million at the domestic box office.

Paramount's "Iron Man 2" shot past $300 million, while Summit Entertainment's "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" has almost hit that mark. Topping $200 million were the Warner Bros. release "Inception," Paramount and DreamWorks Animation's "Shrek Forever After" and Universal's "Despicable Me."

Sony had three $100 million hits with "The Karate Kid," "Grown Ups" and "Salt."

Other releases failed to live up to the hype of summer blockbuster season, among them the Warner Bros. sequel "Sex and the City 2," Disney's "The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" and "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," and 20th Century Fox's "Marmaduke" and "Knight and Day."

"Audiences were underwhelmed, and they voted with their absence," Dergarabedian said. "If you asked most people what they thought of the quality of the movies, it's kind of a so-so summer. We could have done a lot worse were it not for films like `Inception' and `Toy Story 3.'"

Silicon Valley software giant Cisco has unveiled a 128 pound handheld device that allows supporters to view instant replays of live action from as many as ten different camera angles. The gizmo, FanVision, features three 4.5inch LCD screens and also allows users to switch to live TV coverage of the game they are watching in specially equipped stadia.

Brad has told his fellow US ambassadors, including former President Bill Clinton and actor Morgan Freeman, that FanVision will "revolutionise all sport". "He believes it can clinch the American attempt to host the 2018 World Cup and blow Becks and England completely out of the water," the Daily Star quoted a pal as saying.

Brad's pal insisted: "He and his fellow US ambassadors are well aware soccer is in the dark ages on this issue. But their pitch to Mr Blatter will be that technology plays a part in all other major US sports and will inevitably have to be adopted by soccer's world authority."

Washington (ANI): ABC's show 'Mad Men' has won Emmy awards for outstanding drama series third time in a row, while ‘Modern Family’ was named outstanding comedy series. A 14-time nominee, ABC's ensemble comedy netted an early win for supporting actor Eric Stonestreet, who plays the loveable Cameron Tucker.

The first-time winner called the gig "the most amazing job ever” onstage. "All I wanted to be was a clown in the circus when I was a kid growing up," People quoted Stonestreet as saying. Another freshman series, ‘Glee’, collected an award for director Ryan Murphy and Jane Lynch, who won outstanding supporting actress in a comedy for her role as the scheming Sue Sylvester.

In a shout-out to the ensemble cast, she joked, "I love you. You're young and you're wonderful. You're fresh-faced, and when I'm not seething with jealousy, I'm so proud of you." Edie Falco claimed outstanding actress in a comedy for Nurse Jackie and Jim Parsons won outstanding actor in a comedy for The Big Bang Theory.

London, (ANI): John Cusack will be playing the role of Edgar Allan Poe in a new murder mystery, he confirmed on Twitter. The High Fidelity actor will star as the horror writer in director James McTeigue's forthcoming The Raven — a fictionalised account of Poe's mysterious last days chasing a serial killer.

"Official I will play Edgar Allen Poe in fall. A film called The Raven, send any Poe gold my way as I begin this journey into the abyss,” the Daily Express quote Cusack as saying in a post on his Twitter.come page. Ewan McGregor and Jeremy Renner were previously in talks for the project but their parts were not specified. It is unclear if either actor is still involved.

The period thriller is due to begin filming in autumn (10) and is set to hit theatres next year (11).

Shahrukh, who starred opposite Deepika in her debut film Om Shanti Om, has played an important role in shaping her Bollywood career.

The Lafangey Parindey heroine, Deepika Padukone, still goes speechless if asked about Shahrukh Khan. Shahrukh, who starred opposite Deepika in her debut film Om Shanti Om, has played an important role in shaping her Bollywood career.

Deepika accepts that whatever she does, she can't get over Shahrukh. She says, “While Shahrukh was talking, all I did was sit quiet and listen. This always happens to me! Every time I think I'm going to meet him and I have soo much to say, then one look at him and I blankout!!”

Being the first timer in the film Om Shanti Om, Deepika played the role of Shantipriya with ease, and all the credit goes to the unit of the film and above all to King Khan, who made her feel so comfortable that, she never felt conscious about working with a superstar.

Surely, the respect and the realization of Shahrukh's more experience and knowledge in the acting field, keeps Deepika tight lipped when it comes to sharing space with Shahrukh Khan.

Mumbai, Aug 30: Heavy rains battered Mumbai for the second day on Monday, Aug 30 even as weather bureau forecast intermittent rains over the next 24 hours.

The Indian Metrological Department (IMD) informed that Colaba recorded 69.3 mm of rainfall and Santacruz received 138.0 mm of rainfall from 8.30 am on Sunday, Aug 29 to 8.30 am on Monday, Aug 30.

Heavy rains accompanied by strong gusty winds have been forecast in parts of city and suburbs.

While rail and road traffic remained unaffected by the downpour, waterlogging was reported from Dadar, Andheri, Malad, Ghatkopar and Vikhroli.

In a rain-related incident, a portion of Bayani House building in Masjid Bunder in south Mumbai caved in early Monday, Aug 30 morning. However, no injuries have been reported.

Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor had earlier expressed her wish to act with her big sister Karisma Kapoor but not in the much-hyped film We Are Family. She thinks that Karisma can't play the role played by Kajol.

Kareena said that Karisma couldn't do the film, as the film required them to marry the same man. She added that both Karisma and Kajol are mothers and have the experience of raising children in real life.

The bold and beautiful actress is all praise for her co-star. She said that it was an honour to be part of the film because she was excited by the challenge of sharing the screen space with Kajol. They had earlier acted together in Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham.

We Are Family is a remake of Hollywood film Stepmom. Karan Johar is producing it with Siddharth Malhotra as the director. It is scheduled for release this Friday, September 3.
