Google quietly kills its once-hyped Nexus One phone.

(CNN) -- With the eyes of the technology world squarely on Apple's iPhone 4, Google quietly announced it will stop selling the Nexus One, its first and possibly only foray into the smartphone world. In a two-paragraph post on its official blog, Google's Nexus One team said the next shipment of the phones will be the last. "Once we sell these devices, the Nexus One will no longer be available online from Google," according to the post. The announcement was made Friday, the same day that Apple CEO Steve Jobs held a news conference to announce the company's solution for reception problems with the popular iPhone 4. Running on Google's Android operating system, the Nexus One was released in January to mostly positive reviews from the tech blogosphere. Early users compared it favorably to the iPhone and liked the ability to buy the phone, albeit for more money, without a data plan from a particular service provider. But sales were anemic, with the phone selling only 135,000 units in roughly the same time it took the iPhone and the Droid -- Motorola's phone that runs the Android system -- to sell 1 million. Many blamed Google's experimental try at selling the Nexus One only in its online store. The company abandoned that approach in May, offering the phone in brick-and-mortar stores for the first time. With the announcement, Google seems satisfied to write off the Nexus One as a tool to experiment with Android's features. Recently, the search engine giant has been pushing Android users to phones made by other manufacturers, such as the HTC Droid Incredible. May's announcement mentioned both the Incredible, for Verizon customers, and the HTC Evo 4G from Sprint as phones that have benefited from advances made on the Nexus One. The new Droid X from Motorola has most of the Android buzz now. It was released last week to positive reviews and is selling out online and in many retail stores. Google's blog post said that it will continue to make the Nexus One available to Android developers so they have something to use while writing apps for the mobile platform.

London, England (FT.com) -- China overtook the U.S. last year to become the world's biggest energy user, the International Energy Agency revealed on Monday. Beijing's new status is expected to make it even more influential in global energy markets, in determining prices and how it is used. China clinched the top slot more quickly than had been expected because the U.S. has over the past decade far outpaced China in using energy more efficiently. On a per capita basis, the U.S. still uses far more energy than China and remains less efficient than Europe. Fatih Birol, the IEA's chief economist, said: "In the 2000, the US consumed twice as much energy as China, now China consumes more than the U.S." He noted that the U.S. had improved the efficiency with which it uses energy by 2.5 percent annually during that time, while China managed only a 1.7 percent annual improvement. "On the one hand, the U.S. has come to a certain saturation of energy use, but there have also been lots of efforts, especially since 2005, to use energy more efficiently," he said. China last year consumed 2,252 million tons of oil equivalent of energy from sources including coal, oil, nuclear power, natural gas and hydropower, about 4 percent more than the U.S., the rich countries' watchdog said. China's growth has also not suffered the same setback as that of the U.S. following the global financial crisis. In 2008 it pushed oil prices to record highs, which helped tip the world into recession. Mr Birol said China's increased need for imports of coal and gas could eventually have a similar impact. A second big consequence of China's growing heft as an energy consumer is that the country will thus increasingly determine how energy is used on a global scale -- from the types of cars manufactured to the kinds of power plants built. This means China will also determine energy consumption patterns outside its boarders. "There will be a big multiplier effect," Mr Birol said. Though the IEA warned the data on China's energy demand last year was still preliminary, the country's ascendancy in energy use has been well established, with western policy makers fretting about issues such as Beijing's aggressiveness in seeking to secure oil from Kazakhstan to Sudan and to China's growing carbon emissions. China is already by far the world's largest user of coal. Despite its own vast resources, its imports of thermal coal are expected to hit 105-115 million tonnes this year, pushing it ahead of Japan as the world's largest coal importer. Only three years ago China was a net coal exporter. The trend has also been apparent in oil. Saudi Arabia, the world's most important oil exporter, for the first time last year sold more oil to China than the U.S., which for decades had been its most important customer. In March, Nobuo Tanaka, the IEA's secretary-general, called on China to join the IEA, warning that the organization, which represents the OECD's largest energy consuming countries, risked losing its relevance otherwise.

New York (ANI): Lindsay Lohan’s dad Michael has slammed her new lawyer, Robert Shapiro over lack of court appeal. Michael even admitted that his 24-year-old daughter really needs "a lot of prayers" and an attorney who will appeal her July 6 sentence from Judge Marsha Revel for three consecutive 30-day jail stints for violating probation for a pair of 2007 DUI busts. The troubled star is reported to join Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, Calif. on Tuesday. Lindsay recently checked into Pickford Lofts, a Los Angeles sober house that uses meetings, meditation, and the 12-step program to address addiction. Shapiro, who famously represented O.J. Simpson, founded the program. "It's a conflict of interest if he's putting her in his own sober house but not doing anything for her legally," the New York Daily News quoted Michael Lohan as saying. "An attorney is ethically responsible for defending their client to the best of their ability. But when you have an attorney like Robert Shapiro, who went through so much with his own son and knows the effects of prescription medications, it doesn't make sense that he did nothing to appeal her case and get her off the meds before she goes to jail,” he added.

New Delhi, Jul 20: During interrogation David Coleman Headley had told National Investigation Agency interrogators in Chicago, that the terrorists who carried out the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai were trained by the Pakistani Navy. "The role of frogmen was confirmed by Headley when the Indian investigators interrogated him in the US," a senior official said. Kasab had confessed that the 10 terrorists, including himself, who attacked Mumbai received training in swimming and underwater diving from Pakistan Navy frogmen. Officials said the Indian investigators so far had no plan to interrogate Headley's accomplice Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin, as his involvement in the Mumbai attack conspiracy was limited to providing finance. “If necessary, we may interrogate Rana also, though we have no immediate plan to do so," an official said. 2008 Mumbai attacks, which drew widespread condemnation across the world, began on Nov 26, 2008 and lasted until Nov 29, killing at least 173 people and wounding at least 308.

Mel Karade Rabba movie Punjabi Review So, at last after three days of excited waiting I managed to watch the first day first show of the film Mel Karade Rabba in Greater Union Cinema of the Melbourne and let me say that I really enjoyed it. In Punjabi community/culture most marriages as a rule are set off through the fixed process or some traditional ceremonies like “Rok”, “Shagan” and “Mangani”. In case something goes wrong or some misunderstanding cultivates between the families of the to-be-bride and groom, it leads to the end of the relationship of the future husband and wife along with their families. The situation of the aforementioned ceremonies being performed, but the final destination of marriage/wedding not achieved, has been expressed in a successful and stylish way by the film director of Mel karade Rabba.
Attention – Story Spoiler – Dont read if you havent seen the film yet: The film’s protagonist Rajveer Gill (Jimmy Shergill) is a college student who cannot pass entrance exams (It shows in the film that he has been trying for three years) but successfully manages to get the top results. Rajveer also goes ahead and takes part in fights with other student groups of his college. He also buys cups and trophies to make his mother feel proud of him as she is so proud of her late husband who was an army officer. So, a family pride story there. The female protagonist Neeru Bajwa plays the role of Seerat “a decent Punjabi girl” who first sees Rajveer during a fight holding hockey stick in his hand. Rajveer goes through his “love at first sight” moment with neeru at the same time as well. Later on when Rajveer’s family tries to get his agreement for the marriage he denies first but agrees straight away when he comes to know that this is the same girl who saw him fighting. Rajveer and his family members go to the girl’s house so the boy and girl can see each other for first time. Seerat is aware of Rajveer’s true nature so she tries to inform her father as she knows what type of life partner should “not” be in her life but Rajveer handles the situation with skill. Seerat continues to make unsuccessful efforts to break this relationship and escape the marriage. On the other hand Rajveer successfully wins the heart of Seerat’s other relatives when he visits Seerat’s grandmother in village. During this visit Seerat observes the better side of Rajveer and stops her efforts to break the relationship and agrees to see Rajveer as her future husband. And here comes somebody who makes girl’s father really aware regarding the bad side of Rajveer. Seerat’s father asks Rajveer to finish this relationship before the marriage without telling anybody and Rajveer does that. What happens after this is the rest of the film. Well, I didn’t want to let the whole cat out for you.
