Sofia Vergara runs nude down Sunset Blvd after winning Emmys
Wednesday, September 1, 2010, 10:54 [IST]

Washington (ANI): Colombian actress Sofia Vergara has revealed that she has fulfilled her pledge to run nude in Hollywood should sitcom ‘Modern Family’ win an Emmy. The team behind the hit ABC comedy had through an ad stated in July that Vergara, 38, would “run naked down Sunset Blvd.” if the show won the outstanding comedy award at the Emmys on August 29.

They also added in a disclaimer that the “cast member may change without notice”, but the actress says that she is not one to back down and has already done the run. “Listen, I’m not afraid of anything. I’m Colombian,” People magazine quoted her as telling Access Hollywood. “Yes, I mean, I’m fast. I run fast. They zipped me and they sent me to do press,” she said.

Vergara’s co-star Julie Bowen has backed her story. “When we went back to the press room, she had made a left turn and we all made a right turn. So for about 20 minutes, she was missing,” she said. When she returned, Bowen asked her where she had been, and Vergara replied that she went to run nude down Sunset Boulevard. “No one was there. So I did it. It’s over … No one said I had to do it at a certain time,” Bowen said Vergara told her.

Former captain/coach Javed Miandad has expressed his desire to coach the Pakistan cricket team if the PCB decides to replace the accused players.

Miandad willing to coach Pak again
Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 12:51 [IST]

Former captain/coach Javed Miandad has expressed his desire to coach the Pakistan cricket team if the PCB decides to replace the accused players.

Miandad, a veteran of 124 Tests, said that he was ready to step in and assist the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in the midst of the biggest fixing scandal to have hit the world cricket.

"I can take charge and manage things but first the board has to recall the players accused of spot-fixing and the present management from England. We need to field a new look side and new management for the One-Day series in England," Miandad said.

The former batting great, who is now the director-general of cricket in PCB, said he had aired his mind and now the ball rests on the board's court.

"I am always there for Pakistan cricket and these latest spot-fixing scandal has hurt me immensely. It is damaging for Pakistan cricket and the board needs to steps of its own to set things right," Miandad said.

Miandad, who was coach of the national team thrice in the past, said PCB should immediately recall those players from England who were under the scanner.

"They are still not proven guilty but given the kind of pressure they would be under at the moment and considering the pressure there will be on the team, the sensible thing is to call them home now," he said.

He also felt that the entire team management needed to be replaced immediately as it had failed to prevent the occurrence of such a situation.

"I don't want to say much now but it is obvious the management failed. We have enough talent in Pakistan to field a new look side in the ODI series. We should make a fresh start and try to clear this tainted image," Miandad said.

Miandad, however, declined to make any comments when asked if he felt it was time for PCB chairman Ijaz Butt to resign.

"Look I don't want to go into that. The chairman has been appointed by the chief patron of the board and only he can decide who will run cricket affairs," he said.

"I am a member of this board and I have the interest of Pakistan cricket at heart. That is why I am suggesting these radical steps. The investigations will go on but we need to understand that we can't carry on playing like this in the ODIs with all this pressure on the team," the former captain added.

Sri Lankan team Wayamba which will be led by Mahela Jayawardene have been sponsored by 'Musli Power' a 'sex enhancer' for the Champions League T20 tournament starting next month in South Africa.

Musli Power is basically a herbal product designed to assist with sexual disorders and enhance sexual pleasure.

According to the manufacturers, Kunnath Pharmaceuticals, Sri Lanka's top provincial side will adorn jerseys with 'Musli Power' prominently displayed as part of the sponsorship agreement. Wayamba qualified for the Champions League T20 after winning the inter-provincial T20 tournament in Sri Lanka this year.

However, the endorsement hasn’t gone down well with Sri Lankan cricket supporters as there have been several moral and ethical questions being posed about the association.

According to the 'The Island' report, Secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket Nishantha Ranatunga wasn’t even aware what Wayamba were going to endorse during the Champions League when he attended the media briefing and the board has privately admitted that it was a mistake not to check things before sitting. And the worst, the product was endorsed on a Poya Day.

Australian cricketers Shane Watson and Brad Haddin confirmed that they were approached by Indian bookmakers during the tour of England last year.

Watson, Haddin approached by bookmakers last year
Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 15:25 [IST]

Australian cricketers Shane Watson and Brad Haddin confirmed that they were approached by Indian bookmakers during the tour of England last year.

Watson's admission came after the Sydney Morning Herald reported that the all-rounder was approached in the bar of the team's West London hotel, the Royal Kensington Garden, after the Lord's Test, while wicketkeeper Haddin was confronted during the World T20 tournament last year.

It has also emerged that Brett Lee and Mitchell Johnson were approached during the England tour.

"Both players had immediately reported the approaches to the authorities and neither is suspected of any wrongdoing," the newspaper said.

Watson also confirmed that he was approached twice by the illegal bookmaker and he had reported the matter to Australian team management.

"I didn't think too much more of it until I found out a bit more information and that he was actually one of the illegal bookmakers," he said.

"It was just a little bit different to what normal fans are," he said.

Watson's admission came after spot-fixing allegations against several Pakistani cricketers, including captain Salman Butt, rocks the world cricket.

Mazhar Majeed, an alleged bookie, claimed in a sting operation by British tabloid 'News of the World' that several Pakistani cricketers were involved in spot as well as match-fixing.

Watson was in "complete shock" when he first learned of the match-fixing allegations and said if found true the accused players face the risk of life ban.

"When I first heard about it I was in complete shock, there's no doubt about that. If the allegations are true then they will unfortunately get a lifetime ban," he said.

The 29-year-old Australian all-rounder said he was upset about young Mohammad Aamer's involvement in the match-fixing scandal.

"I probably feel for him (Aamer) more than anyone because he's only a young, naive and innocent guy," Watson said.

"Unfortunately he's caught up with something (and) whether it's in their culture I don't know, I don't know how deep it runs but it's unfortunate that someone of his skill has got tied up with something that is damaging to cricket and to the individuals.

"I found him to be a brilliant competitor on the field. He always gave everything he got every single time that I competed against him and I found him to be an extremely skillful bowler for a 19-year-old," he said.

ODI series must go on: Swann
Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 17:10 [IST]

England off spinner Graeme Swann has said that the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan must go on as scheduled, despite the alleged spot-fixing scandals involving several players in the Pakistan squad.

Swann says he has no problem playing against any Pakistani cricketer or the Pakistan national team, but was against playing accused skipper Salman Butt or fast-bowlers Mohammad Aamir and Mohammad Asif.

Latest media reports suggests that the Pakistani Cricket Board (PCB) might take stern action against the accused cricketers and remove them from the squad for two T20 and five ODI matches to take place.

"I am very keen for the one-dayers to go ahead. I love one-day cricket and, with nothing proved, I have no problem whatsoever who I play against. What I want most is that cricket gets back in the papers for the right reasons - for someone to score an unbelievable hundred or produce a great spell of bowling," The Sun quoted Swann as saying.

"It''s terrible for cricket to have something like this hanging over it. We want a clean game and that''s what the spectators deserve," he added.

Earlier on Monday, the Pakistani team travelled by coach from London to Taunton, where they will play a one-day practice match against Somerset on Thursday before the first T20 match in Cardiff in Sunday.

The Pakistani team has now been joined by captain/all-rounder Shahid Afridi and paceman Shoaib Akhtar for the remainder of the tour.

Pakistan middle order batsman Younus Khan has reportedly been given the green-signal by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to join the national team for the five-match one-day series against England. Younis has not been part of ODI team Pakistan since November last year.

According to The Nation, the decision to recall the veteran batsman was taken in a meeting held between skipper Shahid Afridi and team manager Yawar Saeed on Monday.

The team’s dismal performance in Test matches and the match-fixing allegations on seven players are being attributed as the reasons behind the decision.

The 32-year-old along with Mohammad Yousuf was banned indefinitely from the team in March following an inquiry committee report, which had probed Pakistan’s dismal performances and disciplinary problems during the tours of the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand and Australia.

Five other players - Shoaib Malik, Rana Navedul Hasan, Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal and Umar Akmal - were also banned or fined.

However, the appellate tribunal later lifted bans on Younus and Malik and halved the fines.

Pakistan had earlier announced a 16-member squad for series on August 24.

ICC/PCB likely to suspend four Pakistan players
Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 11:28 [IST]

The ICC and PCB is considering suspension of four Pakistan players from the rest of the England tour according to media reports.

The move came even as ICC President Sharad Pawar said the world's cricket governing body will take "ruthless actions" if any player is found guilty in the scandal in the Lord's Test match.

The officials of the International Cricket Council and the Pakistan Cricket Board are understood to be considering short-term measures against the accused Pakistan players and this includes suspending Mohammad Aamir, Mohammad Asif, Kamran Akmal and captain Salman Butt from the rest of their tour of England, Daily Mail reported on its Mail Online service.

Pakistan are scheduled to face England in two T20 matches and then five NatWest Series matches over the next three weeks.

ICC president Sharad Pawar has ruled out taking action until after the police investigation but later added "If, unfortunately, there is a truth (in the allegations), then ruthless actions will be taken," he told reporters in Mumbai.

"I am absolutely confident that both boards - English and Pakistani - will never encourage or protect anybody who has done a wrong thing," he added.

Aashayein is a journey from a delusory light into a place where the radiance comes from a consciousness of why mortality is not to be feared.Video.

Subhash K. Jha unravels the facts of Aashayein
Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 11:55 [IST]
By: Subhash K. Jha.

This is a film about coping with dying. But that's not what makes it such a special experience. It's the writer-director's profound understanding of human nature that furnishes the simple story with a lucidity and coherence even when the protagonist's mind is so numbed by physical pain he can barely think straight.

Aashayein is structured as a journey from a bright delusory light into a place where the radiance comes from a consciousness of why mortality is not to be feared.

In John Abraham's eyes are mapped the entire history of the human heart, its follies and foibles as it struggles to make coherent the indecipherable logistics that define our journey across that bridge which everyone crosses from this world to the next.

As that very fine actress Prateeksha Lonkar (a Kukunoor favourite) says, "The only difference between the healthy and the ill is that the former don't know when they are dying and the latter do."

Between that state of blissful oblivion where we all think life is forever (and a day) and that one moment when our delusions come crashing down there resides some very fine cinema. Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Anand where Rajesh Khanna smiled his way though that wobbly bridge taking us to the next world, is an interesting reference point in Aashayein.

I also thought of the actress Supriya Choudhary shouting into the dispassionate mists in the mountains, "I want to live." The echoes reverberate all the way to Kukunoor's heart warming funny and elegiac exposition on the truth that lies on the other side of that illusory mountain we call life. Kukunoor pays homage to life per se, and life as we know in the movies about death.

Even in the most poignant places in the art Kukunoor ferrets out some humour. When John's lovely girlfriend (Sonal Sehgal) hunts him down in his exilic place of the dying John quips, "So you are not going to behave like one of those heroines in films who dumps the dying hero?"

The fantasy element creeps into the hospice (yes, that's the spotless space that the story inhabits unostentatiously) with the least amount of fuss. There's a little boy (the bright and expressive Ashwin Chaitale) who weaves mystical tales borrowed from the comic books for the desperate and the dying. Here Kukunoor brings in an element of rakish adventure borrowed from the edgy hijinks of Indian Jones.

Who says money can't buy love? John uses bundles of cash to bring a smile into these doomed lives. When he doubles up with pain in womb-like postures of helplessness we feel his pain.

John in Harrison Ford's hat and whip cuts a starry figure. He has never been more fetchingly photographed. John's smile reaches his eyes, makes its way to his heart and then to ours. This film opens new doors in John's histrionic hospice .It's a performance that heals and nurtures.

John's finest moments are reserved for a hot-tempered sharp-tongued 17-year old girl on a wheelchair, played with intuitive warmth by Anaitha Nayar. He guides the relationship between these two unlikely comrades of unwellness with brilliant restrain and candour. She wants him to make love. He does with his eyes using his unshed tears as lyrical lubricant.

Here is a performance that defines the character through immense measures of unspoken anguish. Rajesh Khanna in Anand? Nope. John pitches his performance at a more wry and cynical world where true feelings are often smothered in worldly sprints across a wounded civilization.

This is unarguably Kukunoor's most sensitive and moving work since Iqbal. We often find little sobs pounding at the base of our stomachs. Not all the characters or situations are fully formed and fructified. But even the partly-realized truths in Aashayein convey more common sense and uncommon affection for life than the "entertainers" of today's cinema where laughter is generated through cracks in places very far removed from the heart.

Even as the promos of his next big release Anjaana Anjaani continue to make waves with each passing day, Ranbir Kapoor is busy shooting for his next venture, director Imtiaz Ali's Rockstar. Oneindia came across a couple of on-the-sets stills of this eagerly awaited film.

Newcomer Nargis Fakhri would be seen opposite Ranbir in this film. The unit of Rockstar recently shot in Prague. It's obvious that Ranbir Kapoor plays the 'Rockstar' in the film, but in these images he looks far from being one. Maybe it's yet another story of a small town boy going on to becoming a 'Rockstar'.

One of the highlights of the film is its music composed by none other than Oscar winner A.R.Rahman. This is the first time that Rahman and Imtiaz Ali would be collaborating and we can't wait to hear the music of this film.

Dabangg makers don't want 'A' certificate
Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 17:16 [IST]
By: Joginder Tuteja:

In the current market scenario when the maximum moolah for a film is generated in it's first week with more than half of it coming in the first three days itself, it is imperative that audience across different age groups and segments walk into theatres across the country in dozens. The makers of Dabangg are conscious of this fact and are sure that in order to get maximum footfalls, bringing in family audience is the key. No wonder, they are pushing for a 'Universal' certificate and are in mood to settle for an 'Adults Only' certificate.

"We are very clear about that. Dabangg is a universal film and not targeted only for youth. There isn't anything at all in the film that would lead to an 'A' certificate", says Arbaaz Khan who is understandably protective about his debut production.

Ask him whether Censors would have any issues with the brutal and rustic action in the film and Arbaaz denies any such possibility.

"It is understandable for a film to get an 'A' certificate if it has blood all around with lot of gruesome and violent action. In case of Dabangg, there isn't anything remotely close to that. It is a fun masala entertainer and that's the way we have projected the film through promos as well", Arbaaz reasons.

However, the fact remains that Wanted was a fun film as well but it had received an 'A' certificate. It is a different matter though that the film still went on to be a super-hit at the box office
even with a reduced audience base. Still, doesn't past reference make the producer in him wary, especially so because Dabangg is supposed to be carrying the 'cool action' quotient the same way forward as Wanted?

"God forbid, even if there is any particular shot that Censors may feel would qualify for adults only, I would fight for it, perhaps relent eventually but won't allow it come in the way for Dabangg to miss out on a 'U' certificate", Arbaaz responds quickly, "Of course, in my heart I don't think I would have to touch even a single shot. My film is for family audience. Also, it doesn't touch upon any sensitive issues. It doesn't have any vulgarity. Also, there isn't any foul language which is unbearable for audience to digest."

For someone who is attached to his film, Arbaaz understands that an 'A' certificate does affect a film's market eventually. "Today there is monitoring of people who step into theatres to watch a film. Dabangg is a film for single screens as well as multiplexes, A centres as well as B and C centres. It would appeal to all classes; it has to work everywhere. I want maximum number of people to watch Dabangg. Period."

Here is good news! Bollywood arch rivals Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan are likely to patch up if all goes on well. Surprisingly, it was Shahrukh, who decided to break the ice, by saying that he would watch Dabangg with his family.

Salman, who is badly needing a hit after a series of flops, must be pleased with Shahrukh's gesture. The truth is, Shahrukh's statement has not only given publicity to the film but also sent good feelers to the public. Dabangg featuring Salman and debutant Sonakshi Sinha is scheduled for release on September 10.

Well, it may be recalled that Shahrukh and Salman have been keeping away from each other ever since they got into a brawl at Katrina Kaif’s birthday party a few years ago. Let’s hope Shahrukh’s gesture brings them closer again!

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan was bought into the picture to see the situation and present his views on them.

Salman to give his views on Emotional Atyachar
Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 12:45 [IST]

Recently, the Emotional Atyachaar team (EAT) was approached by a girl called Sudhiksha who wanted to conduct a loyalty test on her boyfriend Manish. She explained that Manish is a compulsive liar who denied about the pregnancy of his ex-girlfriend. The loyalty test begun and a crew member visited Manish for some official work. They exchanged phone numbers. The two met next day at a coffee shop and soon Manish began showing interest. He even went up to the extent of proposing her over the phone.

The EAT was shocked to the core, since the undercover agent wasn’t even introduced in the scene. The crew member soon said that she will be leaving for Mumbai and this is where Vaishali was introduced. Manish got comfy with her, in almost no time.

Before Sudhiksha was made to face the reality as dug out by the EAT, the special guest of the episode, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan was bought into the picture to see the situation and present his views on them. Salman was both shocked as well as appalled at the behavior of Manish and told EAT host Pravesh Rana that there is a very thin line between healthy flirting and cheating and one should never cross that. He further went onto talk about and comprehends the case in depth.

Sometime back there was a report that hot Rakhi Sawant wants to make a serial on the Holy ‘Bible’ in which she expressed her wish to play ‘Mother Mary’. As Rakhi is a follower of Christianity, she has a strong feeling to make a show on ‘Bible’ where she could preach some gospels of ‘Lord Jesus’ to the common man. Sounds sarcastic! But Rakhi is still in search of a channel who can take on her show.

Expressing her thoughts Rakhi says, “I really want to make a show on ‘Bible’, where I want to essay ‘Mother Mary’. My show will include everything right from the creation of this Earth, how ‘Adam’ and ‘Eve’ come into the Universe, what was the first sin on Earth. How did Earth evolved and how did other developments take place. But it’s really very bad that no channel has yet taken my show.”
To which channels have you offered your show? “I have offered my show to Imagine TV but they want all drama which my show doesn’t have,” says Rakhi annoyingly. “Then I took this show to Colors but even they rejected it. Now a few more channels are remaining and I know they will surely take my show,” clarifies a disheartened Rakhi.

Star Plus’ well sought after and highly anticipated show called ‘Master Chef’ is supposed to launch in the month of October. The show’s auditions have already started and the channel is all ready to launch the show at a particular prime time. Rajiv Laxman of MTV Roadies fame is the primary creative head behind the show.

According to a reliable source, who is a part of the show, says that it’s supposed to start in October. Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has been energetically involved in the making of the show. The first dish that the contestants will be asked to make is the ‘Khiladi Sizzler’ keeping in mind, the true ‘Khiladi’ from Bollywood, Akshay Kumar.

When Ajit Andhare, of Coloseum Pvt Ltd, the producer was contacted he said that the format is brand new because a reality show
solely based on food has never ever been attempted in India. Worldwide, such a concept has garnered a good audience base, but here in India it hasn’t been attempted. The show would definitely be Indianised in order to suit the Indian audiences as well as their food habits.

Here’s hoping that this version of the show, captures the culinary imaginations of the masses and becomes a hit!

Paris Hilton to be charged with drug felony
Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 11:35 [IST]

Washington (ANI): Hotel heiress Paris Hilton is to be charged with possession of cocaine, an offense that could possibly lead to time behind bars. The DA is said to have filed the case involving the socialite, who was allegedly caught with 0.8 grams of cocaine this weekend in Las Vegas, reports TMZ.

The police report says the cop who stopped the Escalade pulled along the passenger side of the vehicle and smelled "the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle." In the report, the cop says he noticed immediately the passenger was Hilton. He then observed her trying to roll up the window.

After the traffic stop and a crowd of 100 people gathered around, Hilton said she was "extremely embarrassed" and asked the cop if she could go to the bathroom at the Wynn hotel. At the hotel, Hilton told the cop she needed lip balm so the cop handed Hilton her purse: "As she began to open it, I saw a small bindle of what I believed to be cocaine in a clear baggie begin to fall from the purse and into my hand."

The cop also said that inside the purse was a "broken tablet of Albuterol" -- a prescription medication used to control wheezing. And cops say they found Zig Zag wrappers ... commonly used to roll joints. Paris then admitted the Albuterol was hers but she said the cocaine was not and claimed the purse was not hers -- that she had borrowed it from a friend.

The cop questioned Paris about the cocaine and according to cops Paris gave an odd answer: "She said she had not seen it, but now thought it was gum."

New Delhi, Aug 31: On a curative petition filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Supreme Court resumed the Bhopal Gas Tragedy case on Tuesday, Aug 31 and issued notices against the seven accused involved in the case.

CBI sought enhancement of the sentence to the seven people in the gas leak case in which more than 15,000 people were killed and over 5 lakh seriously affected.

On Aug 2, 2010, CBI filed a curative petition in the Supreme Court seeking restoration of stringent charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which attracts maximum punishment of a 10-year jail term, against the accused in the 1984 Bhopal Gas tragedy case.

In 1996, in which court reduced the charges against the Carbide executives from culpable homicide not amounting to murder to criminal negligence. The former Carbide men will now have to answer why the charges against them should not be beefed up.

In Jun 2010, a Bhopal court, on the basis of these charges, sentenced the men to two years in jail, however, they were granted bail immediately.

The decision by the court infuriated the country and the people urged the government to increase the punishment and the compensation for the families of victims who died, as well as for surviving victims.

Viveka suicide case closed, clean chit to friends
Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 18:18 [IST]

Mumbai, Aug 31: The police has closed the supermodel, Viveka Babajee's death case after ruling out foul-play concluding that it was a suicide.

This means that police has given clean chit to Viveka's two friends, namely stockbroker Gautam Vohra and event manager Kartik Jobanputra, who were under the scanner during the investigations.

Vohra, who was also claimed to be Viveka's boyfriend, was probed under the suspension of abetting the 37-year-old fashion model's suicide.

Viveka, who killed herself by hanging in her Bandra flat in Jun 2010, had left behind a note that read, "U (you) killed me Gautam Vohra".

This led the police to investigate if a strained relation with Vohra forced Babajee into taking the extreme step.

"The chemical analysis report submitted by the forensic science laboratory rules out any foul play. Except the note, there is no evidence to indicate that Babajee was pressurised by someone to commit suicide," a senior police official said.
