Friday, August 27, 2010, 12:04 [IST]

London (ANI): Jennifer Aniston will reportedly appear topless in her upcoming movie Wanderlust. The role will be a major departure for the actress who has appeared in a series of romantic comedies since making her name as Rachel in ‘Friends’.

Wanderlust calls for her to strip off for the first time in her acting career, reports the Telegraph. In the flick, her character also indulges in threesome with two other women, sleeps around with numerous men and takes drugs. According to reports, Aniston has agreed to play the part of a “free loving” married woman who ends up living in a hippie community.

Her most recent film The Switch, in which she played a single girl who uses a sperm donor to have a child, did not perform well at the box office. However, the actress is now looking to the Judd Apatow-directed film to boost her flagging career, say reports.

In the script, which has been seen by a celebrity website Hollywoodlife.com, Aniston’s character Linda rips off her top to distract workmen who are attempting to build a new supermarket.

Antardwand Review: Power-packed film
Friday, August 27, 2010, 12:08 [IST] By: Taran Adarsh:

Jog your memory and recall films highlighting the nuisance called dowry. Images of a number of movies would instantly conjure up in front of your eyes. Now think of groom kidnapping. Have you heard of it or 'Pakrauah Shaadi' (that's how it is referred to in North India)? I had vaguely heard of it once, but was clueless about the reasons that prompt people to kidnap eligible bachelors. Antardwand not only spells out the reasons, but also tackles the issue with rare understanding.

Cinema lovers are thirsting for novel and untold stories and Antardwand is an applaud-worthy film that fills the void. Real, disturbing and shocking, Antardwand, reportedly based on a true story, is a power-packed film. If you crave for new stories and often complain that Hindi films have started stagnating, Antardwand should be your pick this weekend.

Final word? The year 2010 has seen a number of 'small' or low cost films having a lot to offer in the dark confines of an auditorium. Now add Antardwand to that list!

Raghuveer (Raj Singh Chaudhary), who has just appeared for his Civil Services exams, is admonished by his father (Vinay Pathak) against marrying his pregnant girlfriend in Delhi. Distraught and defenseless, Raghu terminates his home visit in the interiors of Bihar and leaves for Delhi. But before he could get out of the village, he is abducted by another headstrong and ambitious father (Akhilendra Mishra) of a girl (Swati Sen) wanting to have a potential IAS officer as his son-in-law.

The boy is forcibly married off at gun point, much against his and the girl's own wishes. Once married, they are locked up in a room for several days till they consummate their marriage and accept each other completely. But do they accept each other in the face of inevitability?

Director Sushil Rajpal needs to be lauded for choosing a novel story and narrating it with flourish. Filmed at actual locations, the debutant director not only captures the atmosphere well, but also keeps the realism alive all through those two hours. In fact, one of the strengths of the film is its unconventional story/screenplay (Amitabh Varma) and even though the viewer becomes a participant after a while, you just can't guess what will happen next or how the film will culminate eventually. In fact, the open ending sets you thinking and most importantly, also seems appropriate.

The first-time director has handled a number of sequences with elan. The entire episode of the groom being kidnapped, tortured physically and mentally and his subsequent marriage gives you gooseflesh. Even the finale, when the daughter reacts sharply, is brilliant.

Sushil Rajpal makes a solid impact as a storyteller. However, the story stagnates in the second hour, but gathers momentum quickly thereafter when the guy consummates the marriage in an inebriated state. The twist and turns in the final reels also keep you thoroughly engrossed.

Antardwand has fine performances by one and all. Raj Singh Chaudhary is natural. Swati Sen is first-rate. Akhilendra Mishra is dynamic. Vinay Pathak is calm and restrained. Himanshi (as Sia) is okay. Jaya Bhattacharya stands out. The actress
enacting the role of Swati Sen's mother is good.

On the whole, Antardwand has a hitherto untold story to tell, which it tells most convincingly. Of course, a film like Antardwand caters to a niche audience, who, I am sure, should praise the effort.

Director - Sushil Rajpal
Cast - Raj Singh Chaudhary, Vinay Pathak, Swati Sen, Akhilendra Mishra, Himanshi, Jaya Bhattacharya, Neelima

Aashayein Review: Bizarre and abstract
Friday, August 27, 2010, 10:16 [IST] By: Taran Adarsh:

Practically every new-age film-maker wants to attempt a real story on celluloid. Stories which are straight out of life/newspapers/news channels. These stories, generally, strike a chord with the ticket buying audience if narrated convincingly and most importantly, narrated within commercial parameters.

Nagesh Kukunoor has been a frontrunner as far as choosing and narrating real stories are concerned. Aashayein too seems like 'our' story. Here's a man who suddenly discovers that he has a few months to live. The indomitable spirit of living life to the fullest, under all circumstances, is what you expect from him. But Aashayein gets so bizarre and abstract that you feel anesthetized after a point. Sadly, you don't react to the characters, you don't react to the film either.

Like Kukunoor's previous attempts, Aashayein is sensitively told and has several poignant and heart wrenching moments, but the story strays from realism and ends up being a fantasy, which leaves a sour taste in your mouth. The entire Raiders of the Ark track, with John imagining himself in Harrison Ford's boots, is weird.

Final word? Aashayein just doesn't meet the Aashayein (hopes) of the viewer.

At a party to celebrate his big win at gambling, Rahul (John Abraham) proposes to his girlfriend Nafisa (Sonal Sehgal). Within minutes of announcing his engagement, he collapses on the floor. After a medical diagnosis, Rahul discovers that he has only a few months left to live. He is diagnosed with lung cancer.

A distraught Rahul learns of a hospice and without sounding off his girlfriend about it, packs his bags and leaves in the middle of the night. He meets a number of people at the hospice, who may have failing health, but unfailing spirit.

For millions of viewers worldwide, Hrishikesh Mukherjee's classic Anand (Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan) remains one of the best films on the matchless spirit of a person diagnosed with a terminal illness. The person in question (Rajesh Khanna) knows he doesn't have much time on hand and decides to spread light and cheer all around.

Though Aashayein has nothing to do with Anand (although there's a reference to the film), the least Kukunoor could've done was to narrate the story without getting into the fantasy zone. When you talk of matters as serious as death, when you show people spending their last days in a hospice, you can't deviate from the topic. Even the hospice here looks more like a small-town resort where people have come for a vacation. The seriousness is clearly missing!

On the brighter side, the sequences between John and Anaitha Nair are wonderful. Ditto between John and Farida Jalal. Salim-Sulaiman's music is in sync with the mood of the film. The song filmed on Shreyas Talpade is the pick of the lot. Sudeep Chatterjee's camera captures the outdoors well. But the writing is imprecise and like I pointed out at the outset, the culmination to this story is difficult to decipher.

Kukunoor is a master when it comes to extracting performances and Aashayein also boasts of sparkling performances by each and every member of the cast. John puts a whitewash on his previous works and comes up with an honest and sincere performance. In fact, this film makes you forget that he's blessed with a striking personality. Instead, you notice the fine actor beneath the good looks and that's what makes you relate to this character for most parts.

Anaitha Nair is pure dynamite. Fiery, feisty, someone who can light fire in water. She's sure to make people notice her talent after this film. Sonal Sehgal is efficient. Girish Karnad, Farida Jalal and Prateeksha Lonkar are perfect. Ashwin Chitale (as Govinda) is natural to the core. Vikram Inamdar (as Xavier, John's friend) is alright. Sonali Sachdev (Doctor) is adequate. Shreyas Talpade appears in a song.

On the whole, Aashayein falters and fails on the writing level. Not much aasha (hope) from Aashayein. Nonetheless, the film has been made on a shoe-string budget and therefore, the recovery from non-theatrical avenues would keep its distributors safe, although the returns from theatrical business would be disastrous.

Prachi becomes Ekta's neighbour
Friday, August 27, 2010, 14:15 [IST]

Television to Bollywood, a journey from small screen to big screen, has been not very tough for budding actress Prachi Desai. And all this was possible only because of her mentor and TV queen Ekta Kapoor, who launched her in the Zee TV’s serial ‘Kasamh Se’. So, how can Prachi remain far from her mentor and best friend?

It is reported that Prachi has recently purchased a lavish apartment just beside Ekta Kapoor's office in Andheri West. So, the actress must be on the seventh sky with her new home being near Ekta’s office. Moreover, she must be celebrating the success of her latest movie Once Upon A Time In Mumbai by gifting herself this new apartment.

Before this, Prachi was living in a rented house at Yari Road. Now, finally she has managed to buy herself an apartment after all these years. Her new home is reportedly a luxurious two-and-a-half BHK situated at Oberoi Spring in Andheri West, just minutes away from Ekta’s office.

According to a source close to Prachi, she saw many other apartments as well but she zeroed down on this apartment at Oberoi Spring. The interiors of the apartment are already done.

Well, is it a mere coincidence or planned buy, who knows!

Hello Darling - Review
Friday, August 27, 2010, 16:48 [IST]
By: Taran Adarsh

Comedy is serious business and I genuinely believe that making people laugh is an arduous task. The best of film-makers, with years/decades of experience behind them, have tried attempting laughathons time and again. Sometimes they succeed, sometimes they don't. Hello Darling also tries to tickle your funny bone, but in vain.

Frankly, the story of a sex pervert and three alluring ladies could've resulted in one naughty film. Hello Darling uses every trick in the book (skin show, generous dose of double entendres et al) to make you laugh, but barring a scene or two, the effort falls flat on its face.
Final word? This film is a joke in the name of comedy!

Hello Darling tells the story of three working girls - Candy (Celina Jaitley), Mansi (Gul Panag) and Satvati (Eesha Koppikar) - who bond together in a posh office of Mumbai, though each of them belongs to a different stratum of society. The biggest issue they face is in their work place. It is headed by their smart boss Hardik (Jaaved Jaffrey), a chronic playboy. He is smart. They have to be smarter. Who wins this battle of the sexes?

An interesting story idea may not translate into an interesting/entertaining film. On paper, perhaps, the concept of Hello Darling may sound hilarious, but what unfolds is childish and bizarre. Forget smiling, you wear a constant smirk on your face at most times. In fact, even if the plotline was weak, but had the writers (Pankaj Trivedi and Sachin Shah) and director (Manoj Tiwari) packed the film with gags and punches, the film would've kept your attention alive. But what comes across is an excuse in the name of comedy.

A few funny moments, like the 'kidnapping' of a dead body from the hospital and a Godmother [Seema Biswas] who brings errant and wayward husbands back on track, are amusing. But the negatives outweigh the positives in this case. In fact, the goings-on get unbearable towards the post-interval portions, when a robber (Vrajesh Hirjee) lands up at Gul's apartment and finds Jaaved chained. From that point onwards, till the finale, which includes the boss (Sunny Deol) reprimanding Jaaved and transferring him to Bangladesh, the film only worsens.

Director Manoj Tiwari fails to deliver, mainly because the writing is corny. The double entendres, used generously to spice the proceedings, are tasteless. The music (Pritam) is mediocre, barring the 'Aa Jaane Ja' track. Ravi Yadav's cinematography is functional.

Amongst the three, Gul stands out with a convincing performance. Celina is decent, while Eesha doesn't look like a Haryanvi. Jaaved goes over the top, but is believable nonetheless. Divya Dutta is alright. Chunky Pandey gets no scope. Seema Biswas is just right. Sunny Deol, in a brief role, is monotonous. Asawari Joshi is passable. Mukesh Tiwari is wasted. Ditto for Vrajesh Hirjee.

On the whole, Hello Darling tries hard to make you laugh, but falls flat on its face. In fact, this comedy is more of a tragedy for the viewer.

The ‘chawl’ culture of Mumbai has never been too far from Hindi cinema.Review & Video.

Madholal…Keep Walking - Review
Friday, August 27, 2010, 18:09 [IST]

The ‘chawl’ culture of Mumbai has never been too far from Hindi cinema. From Basu Chatterjee’s Piya Ka Ghar to Sanjay Jha’s Pran Jaye Par Chawl Na Jaye to Mahesh Manjrekar’s City Of Gold and Chandan Arora’s Striker, many gripping tales of resilience and kinship have been put on screen with no trace of self pity or anger in the underprivileged characters who go about their lives with dignity, optimism and humour even after queuing up for an hour to get into the dingy public toilet.

Madholal…Keep Walking is a well intended look at people we know from the chawls even if we’ve never been to one. The conversation among the characters is authentic. But the sad part is, these characters don’t seem to be saying anything that interests anyone apart from the characters who speak mundane matters acquires a certain engaging quality on screen only when ordinariness is treated with extraordinary empathy. This was the case recently with Irfan Kamal’s Thanks, Maa where one slum kid’s quest for a mother made all the routine characters assume a life beyond their appointed ennui.

In Madholal… The plot and dialogues create no interest in the characters. For half the film we grow familiar with the hand to mouth world of the the protagonist Madholal (Subrat Dutta) his family of loving wife and two daughters and his circle of friends with whom he commutes by train every day. The conversation among the friends is essentially about sex or the lack of it.

One can’t but recall with pleasure and warmth the middle class ladies traveling to and fro in the local trains of Mumbai in the soap ‘Ladies Special’. Not one of the characters traveling with Madholal in these crowded trains appears interesting enough to meet, let alone take home.

Midway through the flat narration there’s a bomb blast on a train. The lives of the people who populate the film are turned around. Madholal, we are happy to know, keeps walking. There are some purposely poignant and emotional highpoints in the story that touch you with their sincerity in the second half. Actor Purba Dutta who plays Madholal conveys a profound anguish and helplessness in the second half. His train journey at the end when he comes to terms with his changed circumstances in life is a measure of the resilience that Mumbai’s middleclass epitomizes.

Sadly the film never quite takes off. The plot is too blunt about its noble intentions to convey the grief of common people caught in the downside of terrorism. This look at Mumbai’s undying spirit is like a Village Mela after closing time. If Slumdog Millionaire was Mumbai on steroids, Madholal …Keep Walking takes the lives from a chawl on a lifeless journey.

Soha Ali Khan roped in by Shreyas for Chemistry

The Iqbal star Shreyas Talpade, who has earlier produced a Marathi movie titled Sanai Chaughade, is now going to co-produce a Bollywood movie titled Chemistry. Talpade has signed actress Soha Ali Khan to play the female lead in the movie. Shreyas himself will act in the movie.

On the other hand, Soha is the girlfriend of Shreyas’ new friend, actor Kunal Khemu. Both the actors bonded well while shooting for the movie Golmaal 3. So, there is a buzz that Soha has probably got the role due to this personal bonding. Kunal and Shreyas used to get along well on the sets of Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal 3. In fact, Shreyas reportedly used to discuss his production Chemistry with Kunal during the breaks. Finally when the project started, Talpade could not think of any other name than Soha and signed her.

However, the spokesperson of Shreyas said that Soha was offered the role only because she suits it and no personal relation is the base of signing her. Sai Kabir, writer of movies like Lamhaa and Kismat Konnection, is also making his directorial debut with Chemistry. It is a romantic comedy, which shows the chemistry between a next door boy with liking for kulfis and a girl with high ambitions.

Recently, Shreyas had launched his production banner Affluence Movies. It will be interesting to see how strong a chemistry Soha can build with her beau’s friend!

Shahid's buttocks are not real!
Friday, August 27, 2010, 11:45 [IST] By: Kalyani Prasad Keshri

Okay! here's something to laugh about. Have you ever thought of Shahid Kapoor's sudden transformation from a young college boy look (thin, lean, lanky) in the film Ishq Vishk to his recent manly and hunk looks? Woow! Isn't that a sudden change? Well, let's make it clear, it is all the magic of his 'butt pads' and nothing else.
Shahid in a recent quiz with a television channel made it clear that (now read this clearly) he wears his butt pads. He said, these pads are so comfortable that he doesn't need a chair to sit on and added that it is a water proof one, and he can wear it in the rain also.
Well Shahid, good that it's a water proof one, because rain is unpredictable and wearing a wet butt pad would have left your fans thinking something nasty about you. Carrying the humour forward, now we know the secret behind Shahid's hunk look.

Telugu actors in drug allegations
Friday, August 27, 2010, 13:51 [IST]

The police recently busted Ravi Teja’s siblings while they were caught buying cocaine from a Nigerian national. The city police confirmed that they have drawn out a list of 65 celebrities from the Telugu film fraternity, who use cocaine regularly. These celebrities have been warned to mend their ways or else they will be arrested.

The strange thing is that drug abuse is not confined among the small time actors, the Police Department said that some superstars, directors and music composers are also involved in the act of abusing drugs. Struggling actors have been known to take up drugs to beat depression in the work place. Some of the superstars have checked themselves into the rehabilitation centers to get rid of the habit. Rehabilitation centers often fail to cure addiction, and the actors take up the drugs as soon as they are released.
According to an industry insider, a top filmmaker introduced this habit among other members of Tollywood and now it has become a trend in the Telugu film industry. Some of the industry leaders believe that a mere 65 offenders cannot tarnish the glorious tradition of the Telugu film fraternity. Renowned film maker Sai Kiran Adivi feels that the law will take its own course and punish the offenders.

Porn king Larry Flynt sued for not using condom in films
London, Aug 27 (ANI):

LOS ANGELES - An AIDS activist group filed a workplace safety complaint against Larry Flynt on Thursday, accusing the porn king of creating an unsafe environment for his stable of sex stars by not requiring they use condoms.

To illustrate its point, the AIDS Health Foundation also delivered 100 DVDS of hardcore Flynt films to the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health's Los Angeles office. Only a single scene in one of the films shows a performer using a condom, said AHF spokesman Ged Kenslea.

The films, most with innuendo-laden names, "clearly demonstrate workplace activities highly likely to spread bloodborne pathogens in the workplace," the complaint says. It urges the state agency to order the use of condoms on film sets.

Larry Flynt Productions President Michael Klein indicated that is an unreasonable demand, adding porn audiences don't want to watch people using condoms.

"We won't budge when it comes to condomless productions," he said in a statement. "That's what the consumer wants, and we deliver it."

Federal law requires that all porn actors be tested for HIV 30 days before the start of filming, and Klein said Flynt's productions adhere to those standards. He added that none of the company's actors has ever tested positive for HIV.

AHF President Michael Weinstein said his group targeted Flynt in part because he is arguably the world's most famous and successful pornographer. Hours before filing the complaint, AHF members, clad in bright red shirts, demonstrated outside the plush Beverly Hills skyscraper that is home to Larry Flynt Productions.

Earlier this year, the group brought similar complaints against nine talent agencies it says promote actors willing to have unprotected sex on camera. Cal-OSHA spokeswoman Krisann Chasarik said Thursday those complaints prompted an investigation, although she didn't know the status of it.

Depending on the nature of a complaint, Chasarik said, Cal-OSHA can launch a workplace inspection or ask that an employer prove the complaint is groundless.

"Our next step now would be to evaluate the complaint," she said of Thursday's filing.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, workers in the adult film industry are 10 times more likely to be infected with a sexually transmitted disease than members of the general population. The department documented 2,013 cases of chlamydia and 965 cases of gonorrhea among workers between 2003 and 2007, and noted that some performers had four or more separate infections over the course of a year.

As many as 25 industry-related cases of HIV have been reported since 2004, the department said.

Saif has planned to start the pre-release promotions of this film in April next year,

Saif to launch an Agent Vinod game
Friday, August 27, 2010, 16:50 [IST]

Whenever one gets to hear of Saif Ali Khan, the terms that get associated with him are talent, style, poise and lots of élan. Here on, add one more term, and that's 'acute business acumen'. Testimonial to this is the fact that he is now all set to launch an Agent Vinod game, for his upcoming film which goes with the same name. It's a game that will have the user become Agent Vinod and go looking for the clues in the country, interacting with many characters, including that of Kareena's as well.

For this game, Saif has tied up Sangam Gupta of Trine Animation and Gaming Studio. Readers may note that this is one of the very few companies that create Xbox and PlayStation games. Saif has planned to start the pre-release promotions of this film in April next year, with the PlayStation game and a comic book. Talking about the two concepts of promoting the film, Saif said that the idea was to come up with a different medium of expression that will appeal to kids as well as adults.

For the uninitiated, Agent Vinod stars Saif in the lead, with his real-life lady love Kareena Kapoor. The film is directed by Sriram Raghavan.

Katrina cries over breakup with Salman
Thursday, August 26, 2010, 12:42 [IST] By Raymond Ronamai

All is not well between lovebirds Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. Ever since Salman declared on a television channel that they have split, Katrina has been pestered with personal questions wherever she goes. And the poor actress was spotted bawling at a news conference after being bombarded with questions on her love life.

All hell broke lose when the actress spoke to the media for one of the brands she endorses. She lost her cool and went emotional after the media persons kept asking her about the break up with Salman. She said that the news of the split must be true if Salman had said so.

“Katrina is a strong girl and not prone to public display of emotion. But on Tuesday night she broke down and wept after the event, wondering why she was being subjected to questions on something that Salman had said,” The Times of India quoted a close friend of the actress as saying. “Firstly, it was unfair of Salman to speak about their so-called split; they had decided between themselves that they would never talk in public about what transpired between them. Katrina has been hurting ever since Salman made the remark that he is now single. Katrina, on the other hand, shares a very personal relationship with Salman’s family and she would never put it up for public scrutiny,” added the source.

Katrina admitted that she was disturbed by the new development. “What happened was very, very disturbing. I had the entire congregation of media persons questioning me about a statement made by Salman. If for all these years I haven’t spoken about the relationship, why should I do so now? I won’t be bullied into talking about my personal life. I am going to take contractual action to ensure limits are not crossed at these events,” she said.

Hema Malini’s daughter Esha Deol has shown her anger against filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma,

Esha files a Case against Ram Gopal Varma
Friday, August 27, 2010, 15:55

Hema Malini’s daughter Esha Deol has shown her anger against filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who has been alleged to have not paid her dues for the movie Darling. She has even filed a complaint against RGV for the same.

A friend of Esha was quoted saying that the actress waited for a long time for Ram Gopal Varma to clear the dues but he did not respond even after repeated reminders. One year back, Esha also filed a complaint in the Cine and TV Artistes' Association (CINTAA) and the filmmaker even did not reply to the letters from the association.

Varma is said to have not paid an amount of about Rs 13 lakh. After some time, the case was taken to the Federation of Western Indian Cine Employees (FWICE), which has termed the case as a 'Non Cooperation Matter'. The friend added that RGV should pay Esha’s dues even if the movie failed at the box office. How long will she wait, added the friend.

On the other hand, Varma said that it is a very old issue, which has been solved as per his knowledge. On this, Esha’s friend said that it’s totally rubbish because the actress is still trying to sort out the problem and it fighting against RGV in CINTAA. By: Prakash Upadhyaya

The Robot, which is the title of Hindi version of Endhiran, was originally registered by Shahrukh Khan's Red Chillies. However, SRK gave away the title to Shankar after the director sent a request letter to the actor asking him to lend the title.

Earlier, Shahrukh and Shankar were in talks regarding Endhiran. Due to creative differences, SRK could not make it to Shankar's project. But it has not stopped King Khan from lending this title to the director.

Later, Shankar roped in Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Bachchan for this sci-fi film and rest is history. The movie is said to be releasing simultaneously in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu in September.

Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif, who had always refrained from speaking about her relationship with actor Salman Khan,Video.

I'm single: Katrina Kaif
Aug 27, 2010

Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif, who had always refrained from speaking about her relationship with actor Salman Khan, has finally confirmed that she was single. "I am single. But beyond that I don't think I need to give too much of details," Katrina told reporters Tuesday at the Trident hotel, where she was named as the international brand ambassador of Etihad Airways. Etihad Airways is the national airlines of the United Arab Emirates ( UAE). The actress who garnered rave reviews for her role in director Prakash Jha's political drama " Raajneeti" said that sometime it becomes very difficult to take a personal decision and more so if it has to be taken publicly. "Sometimes it's hard enough to take decisions, professional sometimes but mostly personal and wherever the decision that you have to take, it's very difficult to take them and if you have to make them in front of everybody, whether it's media, or the public or the world, I think that's a little bit more than what I can handle. That's why for six years, I have never commented who I am with, if I had a break up, if there is an argument," Katrina said. The actress said she thinks commitment changes with situation. "If you commit to something, you must stand by. But if you commit to something and the situation changes, then perhaps the commitment also changes," she said.

Bollywood's finest actresses, Kajol says she was not keen to do 'We Are Family' because it had a first-time director.

One has doubts working with first-time directors: Kajol
Dibyojyoti Baksi [ Tue, Aug 24, 2010 ]

Mumbai, Aug 25 (IANS) One of Bollywood's finest actresses, Kajol says she was not keen to do 'We Are Family' because it had a first-time director. She also believes being a mother in real life made a difference to her body language in the film where she is shown to have three children.

Definitely. I think you always have doubts while working with first-time directors and it's very sensible to do that,' Kajol, 35, told IANS in an interview about her latest film helmed by Siddharth Malhotra.

I don't think you should have complete confidence in first-ime directors, you have to depend on yourself as well,' said Kajol who had many years ago teamed up with Aditya Chopra in his directorial debut 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' that went on to be a huge hit.

Now that 'We Are Family' is ready for release, she is quite positive about the film, a Hindi adaptation of Hollywood comedy-drama 'Stepmom'. Releasing Sep 3, the film also stars Arjun Rampal and Kareena Kapoor.

Lots of films can't be remade. If there is a magic in a film, that cannot be rejuvenated. But there are some films that can. I think 'Stepmom' is one of those. We couldn't have done this in English. If we have tried to do it in English, it would have flopped miserably,' Kajol said.

Since we are doing it in a different language, we had to change the script and make it more Indian. I personally think it's a different film from what 'Stepmom' originally is. When you watch the film, the premise of the film remains the same, but there is so much else there that I hope you come up with the feeling that it's a different film altogether.'

Though it was her best pal, director-producer Karan Johar's production, Kajol really didn't want to do a film soon after 'My Name Is Khan'.

Mallika Sherawat, signed on the dotted line for the 'Dhamaal' sequel without discussing her fee with producer Ashok Thakeria.

Mallika Signs 'Double Dhamaal' without discussing money
Subhash K. Jha [ Wed, Aug 25, 2010 ]

Mumbai, Aug 25 (IANS) Mallika Sherawat, known to charge anything from Rs.1 to Rs.1.5 crore in Bollywood, has signed on the dotted line for the 'Dhamaal' sequel without discussing her fee with producer Ashok Thakeria.

Mallika said she will take anything we give her. She's just happy to be part of a brand like 'Dhamaal' and that too opposite Sanjay Dutt,' said Thakeria.

Part two is titled 'Double Dhamaal' and it will be directed by Indra Kumar.

It seems after reaching a dead end with her career in Bollywood and with her purported global re-re-re-launch in 'Hisss' showing no sign of release, Mallika is delighted at being accepted back in Hindi movies.

So far she has only a few hits like 'Khwahish', 'Murder' and 'Pyar Ke Side Effects', not counting the cameo with Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor in 'No Entry'. And the release date for 'Hisss' has now gone from August to November.

Meanwhile Kangana Ranaut, who will also feature in 'Double Dhamaal', has been very generous about the remuneration as well.

Kangana's work is looked after by Rakesh Nath (Rikku). My director Indra Kumar and I go back a long way with Rikku (who was secretary to Madhuri Dixit who starred in Thakeria-Indra Kumar's 'Beta' and 'Dil'). So Kangana said money was not an issue here,' said Thakeria.

Kangana is paired with Riteish Deshmukh in 'Double Dhamaal'. Javed Jaffrey, Aashish Chaudhary and Aftab Shivdasani will also feature in the film.

Bollywood actress Divya Dutta, who is playing Javed Jaffrey's wife in the upcoming film 'Hello Darling', is missing from promotions of the film.

IANS [ Thu, Aug 26, 2010 ]

New Delhi, Aug 25 (IANS) Bollywood actress Divya Dutta, who is playing Javed Jaffrey's wife in the upcoming film 'Hello Darling', is missing from promotions of the film.

While the other three actresses - Gul Panag, Eesha Koppikar Narang and Celina Jaitley - along with Javed Jaffrey are visible in every mode of publicity, Divya's presence has been negligible.

But it is all part of a planned publicity where filmmakers thought it was best for the movie because they believe Divya's is one of the most important characters in the film and basis for the story to excel, said a source close to the film.

I'm lucky to get Saif as partner: Kareena Kapoor
Dibyojyoti Baksi [ Thu, Aug 26, 2010 ]

Mumbai, Aug 25 (IANS) Actress Kareena Kapoor is all praise for her beau Saif Ali Khan, with whom she is shooting for director Sriram Raghavan's 'Agent Vinod', and says she is lucky to have him in her life.

Very few people get love in life and such a supportive partner. Of course, I am very lucky that I have got a partner like Saif. He is a very unique man. His thoughts are much different from others and he always encourages me to work,' Kareena told IANS in an interview.

She maintains that Saif is like a Hollywood actor, who is ignorant about what's happening around and enjoys his own world.

Saif is mostly ignorant about what films are in the making or if I have signed any until I tell him about my upcoming projects. He is like a Hollywood actor who stays mostly in his own world. He wants to do certain films and produce movies like Hollywood star,' said the actress who teamed up with him in 'Tashan'.

'Rakhi Ka Insaaf', claims she has better solutions to Mumbai's growing migrant population than Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray.

I can solve problems better than Raj Thackeray: Rakhi Sawant
IANS [ Thu, Aug 26, 2010 ]

Mumbai, Aug 26 (IANS) Rakhi Sawant is big-mouthed, they say. The celebrity item girl, who will soon play agony aunt in a new reality show 'Rakhi Ka Insaaf', claims she has better solutions to Mumbai's growing migrant population than Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray.

Come to my show, I'll even solve that. I'll solve it better than our friend Raj Thackeray,' she said when asked about a solution to the growing number of outsiders coming into Mumbai.

The 31-year-old, who was speaking at an event held to launch her new show on Imagine TV where Rakhi will solve issues of the common man, says she has raised her voice for many issues in Mumbai. She is a Maharashtrian herself.

There are a lot of issues in our society. I have been raising my voice from day one. No one knows me better than the media. I have barged into BMC's (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) office to get road construction done.

There are no problems that I haven't solved. The media knows it. Name me one celebrity who has barged into BMC commissioner's office to ask them to mend your road,' she said.

Rakhi is appalled with the governance in the city and is particularly against Thackeray's resistance to migrants from other states residing and working in the financial and entertainment capital of India.

Angoothachaap log baithhe hain wahaan (Uneducated people are sitting at the helm of affairs). There are so many people who know nothing. They don't use their brain even.

I don't think like Raj Thackeray...that anyone from Uttar Pradesh or Bihar or anywhere who comes to Mumbai is an outsider. This country, as well as this state, is of the god and the people living in it are all god's children. I don't believe in differentiating between Hindu, Muslim, Sikh or Christian - we are all one, and Mumbai is for everyone. Everyone can earn their living here,' Rakhi told IANS in an interview.

Vidya Balan's plans of performing a complex Mohiniyattam dance for Santosh Sivan's Malayalam film 'Urumi' have been postponed.

Vidya's Mohiniyattam in Malayalam film postponed
Subhash K. Jha [ Fri, Aug 27, 2010 ]

Mumbai, Aug 26 (IANS) Vidya Balan's plans of performing a complex Mohiniyattam dance for Santosh Sivan's Malayalam film 'Urumi' have been postponed due to her shoulder condition. The actress says she can't dance until she is fully recovered otherwise she may have a life-long shoulder problem.

This has happened all because of my own stubbornness,' said Vidya whose gym trainer had warned her against rigorous exercises.

But I didn't listen to him. Now I can't dance until I am fully recovered. I still haven't forgotten the impact of my classical number in 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa'. The one in Santosh's film would be far more sensuous and intricate.'

Vidya has a chronic shoulder condition which got aggravated after she insisted on going to the gym before it had healed completely. She has now had a relapse, leading to this excruciating pain.

Now I've to wait out, I've no option. Otherwise I'll have a life-long shoulder problem. I can't wait to start rehearsing for Santosh Sivan's dance number.'

Though Vidya is a trained classical dancer, a Mohiniyattam guru has been specially hired by Sivan to teach her nuances of the dance form before she performs it for filming.

Vidya's training was to start this week. Her spirit and her feet are willing -- but the body is too weak to take the vigorous dancing.

I was in so much pain I couldn't do any of the normal things, let alone dance,' she said.

Speaking on the much talked-about item song, she said: 'It's more talked-about than actually performed. I was supposed to start preparing for it this week. Unfortunately I've been down with a painful shoulder condition for some time. And completely forbidden from doing anything strenuous.'

I can't afford Akshay Kumar, Says Feroz Nadiadwala
Subhash K. Jha [ Fri, Aug 27, 2010 ]

Mumbai, Aug 26 (IANS) Producer Feroz Nadiadwala waited for four years for Akshay Kumar to return to the third instalment of 'Hera Pheri' before they parted ways because of the price factor.

I first started discussing the third 'Hera Pheri' movie with Akshay in 2006. I never wanted to make it without him. It's sad that we couldn't come to an agreement. Akshay is like a brother. But I can't afford him. I hope we work together again very soon,' said Feroz.

With Akshay gone, Feroz had to change the entire cast of 'Hera Pheri'.

Now Abhishek Bachchan plays Akshay's role, Nana Patekar has stepped into Paresh Rawal's shoes and Sanjay Dutt has been cast in place of Suniel Shetty.

This, according to Feroz, would remain the lineup of actors for the 'Hera Pheri' films to come.

Feroz is delighted with the script that Anees Bazmi has come up with for 'Hera Pheri 3'. 'It's going to be one of the funniest comedies in living memory,' he said.

Farah and I are friends: SRK
Fri, Aug 27, 2010

Mumbai, Aug 26 (IANS) Superstar Shah Rukh Khan has cleared the air over a reported rift with choreographer-director Farah Khan, saying that just because he wasn't on her next project didn't mean that they weren't friends.

He wished her luck for her next film 'Tees Maar Khan', for which she signed on Akshay Kumar instead of Shah Rukh.

'My friendship with all is as it was before, love them the same way. Many times if we are not working with each other doesn't mean that I hate her or end of friendship. I don't take my wife's decision, how could I take others. I want to see everyone doing well.

'When I am shooting with someone, I am more in touch with him. This time I am not in touch with Farah but wish her all the success and hope this film ('Tees Maar Khan') becomes a bigger hit than 'Om Shanti Om', which was her last film. I just hope she become even a bigger producer. Yes, she is a friend of mine. I am not doing a film with her, which doesn't mean I don't love her,' said Shah Rukh.

Shah Rukh played the lead role in Farah's last film 'Om Shanti Om'.

MadhoLal - Keep Walking Synopsis:
This is a story of humanity. Madholal's simple life has modest dreams and usual challenges. The Times were perfect. A supportive wife, Kamla. Loving daughters, Sudha and Summi. A trusted neighbour, Anwar. And friendships like none other.
Each morning Madholal starts a journey with his inseparable comrades on the local train. An eclectic mix of buddies. Witty Peon, Rajan. Fastidious lawyer, Varma. Beetlejuice spewing stockbroker, Jayesh. Romantic young executive, Satish. And a youthful retiree, Joshi Kaka. They laugh with and at each other. Meeting only in the trains, squibbling and laughing all the way they pass the journey everyday.
Till the tragedy strikes. One event blows it all into smithereens. Shatters the very fabric of Madholal's life.
Come the testing times for a family, a neighbourhood and a friendship. Tumultuous times that turn a perfect home into a gloomy abode. Wife into a stalwart, daughter into a crutch, trusted confidant into a suspect and concerns of a father into his nightmares.
Gloomy doom shrouds over his life. Madholal tries to no avail to darn the life that has been teared to tatters.
A cowardly act of terrorism puts a man's character and grit to test. It hits at the very heart of society's solidarity. We live in such times.
Help comes from the most unexpected quarter. His soul speaks out.
And these trying times do not destroy Madholal rather reaffirm his belief in goodness and strength of human spirit.
Film is a Microcosm of basic human emotions. The local train is a metaphor for life. It represents life as an odyssey. We all are cogwheels of the machinery that has fallen apart due to external and evil events beyond our control. Realities of our times. But each man is for himself. He has to himself put them back together to defeat the purpose of the wrongdoers.
A contemporary message in these tumultuous modern times.
A misfortune can cripple him but can't stop Madholal. He takes his first step towards bringing his life back on the tracks. The local train is his teacher, friend and lifeline. Come hail or storm Madholal has to keep walking.
