EXCLUSIVE: Could Patrick Wilson Be Superman?

Recently, we brought you the rumor that True Blood actor Joe Manganiello is up for the role of Clark Kent in Zack Snyder's Superman. Supposedly, Smallville's Tom Welling and Superman Returns' Brandon Routh are still being considered as well, although their casting would contradict most of Snyder's previous statements about his film being a complete reboot of the franchise. One actor who has played a super hero for Snyder before is Patrick Wilson, who portrayed Nite Owl in the director's comic book adapted masterpiece Watchmen. He recently appeared as The A-Team's nemesis, Agent Lynch, in the film adaptation of the popular '80s TV series and soon the actor will be seen in the new romantic comedy, Morning Glory, which opens on November 10th and co-stars Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford and Diane Keaton.

While he was promoting his new movie, actor Patrick Wilson took some time out to speak with us. We began by asking him his thoughts on the choice of Zack Snyder to direct Superman and if he thinks the director is a good fit for the franchise?

"Well, I think anything is a good fit with him. The thing about Zack is that the guy is the most detailed, focused director that I've worked with. He knows exactly the picture that he wants to paint. Whether it's your taste ... I mean you can find a hundred people that absolutely love Watchmen and then there are people who will say that it is too close to the comic. But whatever, its Zack! He just attacks each film and with every single frame he knows exactly the picture that he wants to paint. So I think its awesome and I think its awesome for the franchise. I loved Superman growing up. I was brought up really on the movies. I was not a comic guy so those movies just defined, especially Superman and Superman II, the super-hero genre for me. Christopher Reeve, you know? So its great to mix it up and I think it is a great move. I think it will just be an awesome spectacle and you know he'll find some great story to tell."

The actor went on to share with us his initial reaction to hearing that Snyder had been given the job.

"When I heard he signed on I called one of my agents and said that I hadn't talked to Zack or anything but that I just wanted to read it. I don't even care if I'm right for anything, I just want to know what he's doing."

Finally, we asked Wilson if there was any character in the Superman universe that he would like to play in the movie ... Clark Kent perhaps?

"Oh man, who knows? I love seeing all the Jon Hamm comments and Jon is like, "What? I'm over forty, this is ridiculous". So I don't know? That is such a big thing, who knows? I remember when Watchmen came around I didn't think I was really age appropriate or right for that but then when I jumped into it I was able to make it work. So who, knows? I would be happy to do anything with Zack again."
Superman comes to theaters in 2012. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

Follows a Palestinian leader who unites Fatah, Hamas and Israelis in an unarmed movement to save his village from destruction. Success eludes them until his 15-year-old daughter jumps into the fray.

Reviews:
This documentary will be an eye-opener for many Americans. It tells the story of an on-going non-violent protest movement on the West Bank of the Palestinian Territories. The movement has been created and led by Palestinians--a people often portrayed as terrorists or fanatics by the Western media. Some intrepid international activists as well as some Israelis have joined the movement, but the focus of this film is on the Palestinians.

The film portrays the actual protests and the response by the Israeli military. Just as interesting are numerous brief interviews with many people including the leaders of the protests, an Israeli activist and an Israeli military leader on the ground (who I began to suspect was probably later fired, as his comments were damning as well as humorous). Many people might be shocked to see a Hamas member talk about the value of non-violent protest and how he has met progressive Jews whom he now views as comrades. Not a bearded mullah, he is a math teacher.

The protests I believe were filmed in 2003, but this movement against the Israeli theft of Palestinian land continues on the West Bank. Since it is rarely covered by the Western media, this film may be your only chance to get a good look at it.

Storyline:
Tiny Furniture explores the depths of romantic humiliation and the heights of post-college confusion.
About a recent college grad who returns home while she tries to figure out what to do with her life.

Review:
Written and directed by Lena Dunham, who also acted the part of the lead character, Aura, "Tiny Furniture" is an admirable accomplishment for a variety of reasons. First of all - with a budget of $50K - it demonstrates what talent and dedication can achieve with minimal funds and a skeleton crew. The film tells the story of a young woman, recovering from a recent romantic break-up and just graduated from film studies at Oberlin College, who returns to her artist mother's Tribeca apartment in New York where a younger sister also resides. Coincidentally (or not) this narrative framework closely mirrored Ms Dunham's real-life circumstances at the time when she wrote the screenplay - and she utilized her own mother, sister and friends to play their parts in this fictionalized version of her homecoming.

The result is a fresh, witty, inventive insight into the crucial dilemmas of an insecure but fairly privileged female college graduate who finds herself on the threshold of real life. The film leads us through a varied sequence of Aura's everyday dramas such as sibling rivalry, communication issues with her self-absorbed mother, free-loading boyfriends, employment problems and impulsive casual sex - all of which are portrayed with ironic humor and poignant sensitivity.

"Tiny Furniture" is beautifully photographed on a Canon Digital SLR, and the entire cast - both amateur and professional - give sophisticated performances, with Jemima Kirke stealing the show as Aura's out-to-lunch BFF Charlotte.

Jenna Fischer (The Office, Blades of Glory) will star in The Giant Mechanical Man which begins production in Detroit later this month. Fischer is also producing alongside Molly Hassell (Vamps, Edmond), Michael Nardelli and Brent Stiefel (Grassroots).

Written and directed by Lee Kirk, the film also stars Topher Grace (Predators, Valentine's Day, Spider-Man 3), Malin Akerman (Couples Retreat, Watchmen) and Chris Messina (Greenberg, Julie & Julia, Vicky Cristina Barcelona).

The Giant Mechanical Man is an offbeat romantic comedy about two outsiders -- a misunderstood street performer (Chris Messina) and the soft spoken zoo worker who falls for him. Akerman will play Fischer's well-meaning sister who pushes her towards dating a pompous motivational speaker, played by Topher Grace.

Producer Molly Hassell said: "There are so many great projects out there which never make it to the silver screen. We're thrilled that this indie film, which is a completely unique and interesting story gets to be told."

Kirk, who comes from a theater background recently wrote and produced the award-winning short film The Man Who Invented The Moon as well as Maybe It's Albequerque, Hercules, and the independent feature film Pants on Fire. His critically acclaimed play Sad Happy Sucker enjoyed an extended sold-out run in Los Angeles.

Hassell has produced over 11 critically acclaimed films and documentaries to date with a slate that includes the Amy Heckerling project Vamps with Red Hour Films and starring Alicia Silverstone, Krysten Ritter, and Sigourney Weaver.

The Toxic Avenger Lands Director Steve Pink
November 5th, 2010

Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink is stepping into the horror genre, signing onto direct The Toxic Avenger remake, according to Deadline.

Steve Pink will also co-write the script with Daniel C. Mitchell. Here's what Pink had to say about the project:

"The Toxic Avenger is exactly what the country--wait, that's not big enough--what the world needs right now."

The story centers on a man named Melvin, a janitor who is constantly hassled by the jocks at his gym. One day they dump him in a vat of toxic waste, which transformed him into a hideous but hulking creature who vows to clean up the streets of New Jersey.

Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, the Troma Films owners who created the first The Toxic Avenger movie in 1984, are executive producing the remake along with Kerry Foster. Akiva Goldsman, Richard Saperstein and Charlie Corwin are producing the remake.

The Toxic Avenger comes to theaters in 2013.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler stars in Chad Feehan's upcoming thriller about a hotel sequestered in purgatory

Jamie-Lynn Sigler stars in Chad Feehan's upcoming thriller about a hotel sequestered in purgatory

Jamie-Lynn Sigler, best known for her turns on the HBO series The Sopranos and Entourage, stars in this month's harrowing new thriller Beneath the Dark, from filmmaker Chad Feehan and IFC Films.

The movie follows Paul and Adrienne (Josh Stewart and Jamie-Lynn Sigler), a young couple traveling between Texas and Los Angeles for a wedding. Tired and feeling amorous, they check into the somewhat creepy, very desolate, but eternally stylish Roy's Motel and Cafe. As if preserved in time, the motel proves to be a strange and surreal place where the guests are forced to confront the secrets that they keep from the world and from each other.

We recently caught up with Jamie-Lynn to chat with her about this thriller, which opens today at the IFC Center in New York, and will be available on VOD this weekend. Here is our conversation:

There is a scene in the film where Adrienne's boyfriend Paul gets sick after eating some cherry pie. Be honest with me, how could anyone stay with a guy who pukes on a toilet seat, then shuts the lid and doesn't clean it up? Whether its in a hotel or not?

Jamie-Lynn Sigler: I think that is where the real questions started turning in her head, for sure. I think they were past recognizing things like that, at that particular point in the story. She was so freaked out with whatever was happening, that was the furthest thing from her mind. I would like to think that in some break we didn't get to see on film, that he cleaned it up. Or something...

That was pretty gross...

Jamie-Lynn Sigler: That is pretty gross. Throwing up cherry pie and not cleaning up after your self is very gross.

Adrienne is an interesting character in that she is completely unaware of everything else going on around her at this hotel. Did you find that you had to shut yourself off from the rest of the script and just concentrate on your particular aspect of the story?

Jamie-Lynn Sigler: She is the audience, in a way. I read through the script a couple of times, and then I really concentrated on her world. Usually, you want to read through the whole script constantly, and be aware of where you are in terms of the arcs, and the acts. But this was really about her reality. Which, we don't even know if it is a reality or not. She is so unaware of everything except for Paul. She knows what she feels. You needed to keep that aspect to have that level of confusion. And frustration. When you finally see what is going on, you have an understanding for Paul. But when you don't see it, you obviously see that it is pretty frustrating.

I personally think your character is interesting in that she is basically a configuration of Paul's guilt and imagination. Or how he would imagine Adrienne in a dream. Did you have to look at the character differently when considering this aspect of the storyline?

Jamie-Lynn Sigler: No. We always tried to keep it as if everything was real. Because you never want the audience asking, "Is this real? Or is this his imagination?" For the audience's ride, you want to be respectful of that. You want them to really be questioning what is going on at all times.

Josh Stewart is such an intense actor. How was it for you interacting with him in those scenes where he is being extremely difficult? Did you guys develop a good give and take before the cameras started rolling?

Jamie-Lynn Sigler: We had only read together once. Then we did a read through. Our first day of really working together was our sex scene. It was sort of awkward and weird. But it did break the ice. That was Chad Feehan's game plan. He did that on purpose. He wanted us to start with that, because he wanted it to be clumsy. And he wanted it to be real. He thought that we would have a deeper connection, having started with that. It was an interesting move, and Josh and I were kind of confused by that. But it definitely worked. You know, Josh is amazing. It was interesting, though. Being in the middle of nowhere, and being with this limited crew. You would think it would be dark and depressing the whole time. But we had Journey blasting between each take. And we tried to keep it as light as possible. But as soon as the camera was ready, Josh Stewart and I had our own process of getting into it. It was awesome to have that process, because of the level of commitment you have to have. He was definitely inspiring in that. We helped each other a lot. Its good for an actor. It's definitely a muscle that I haven't worked. It was a great process. It was hard. We had no cell service. There was no connection to the outside world where we were. This was every day. Not until we all got home, which was an hour away from set every night. We were really in this together. It was great.

Chad is a first time director. When he has you do the sex scene right off the bat, and you are questioning that decision, what did he do to make you feel comfortable? And make you think, "Okay, this is the right guy for this movie, and what we are trying to accomplish"?

Jamie-Lynn Sigler: Chad had this way about him, where he literally looked at me and said, "Do you trust me?" and I said, "Yes, I have to." You can't not trust your director. You have to fake it to make it, even if you don't. Or try as hard as you can. I said, "Yeah, I do." After that, everything seemed more right, and we had this deeper connection. I trusted him whole-heartedly the entire time after that. Especially because he was right.

You were stuck out at this desolate hotel for the duration of the shoot. Did that help play into the ideas and themes we see in the film regarding your character?

Jamie-Lynn Sigler: Oh, my god! Yes. Totally. It helped with everything we needed. In being creeped out. In being scared. I have a bug phobia, and there were some of the largest insects I have ever seen in my life on that shoot. It definitely helped with my paranoia, completely.

Where was this film shot at?

Jamie-Lynn Sigler: We were in the desert outside of Palm Springs, on Route 66. No cell service. It was crazy. But our cast and crew were so awesome. I laughed a lot on set, believe it or not. We had a lot of good times. There were a lot of glasses of beer and wine at the end of each evening.

Did you have any run-ins with the gruesome cave crickets?

Jamie-Lynn Sigler: What the Hell is a cave cricket?

It's a cross between a roach and a cricket.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler: Oh, yeah! For sure. There was fucking everything there. I am not lying. I hate bugs. There was a moth the size of a bat. It was really intense. That did help with my paranoia. Because these things were everywhere. There were all kinds of bugs and rodents. Everything! Ugh!

Had you taken a lot of road trips prior to this movie? Have you stayed at a lot of these types of hotels?

Jamie-Lynn Sigler: No. I have never taken a road trip. Unless you count Los Angeles to Vegas. And I would never stop at one of these hotels.

They are eerie. And this particular place certainly has that feeling on screen.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler: It is eerie. And it was really there. This was a real motel. It is a light in the middle of nowhere. It seems like a saving grace. It seems like a safe place, because it's the only light in miles of darkness. But it could be the unsafest place for you. You never know. Even the people that were stopping by while we were shooting were creepy. It was weird.

Was the motel operating during the shoot?

Jamie-Lynn Sigler: I don't think they could stay. No. The motel wasn't running any longer. It had been abandoned. It was a tourist stop. People would stop and take pictures. The same way they have the pictures of the couples you see in the movie. There were people who would actually stop and take those same photos.

That is cool. The story in Beneath the Dark takes some dark turns. What was your impression of the screenplay when you first read it, and how has your idea of it changed since seeing the completed film? Do you constantly get something new out of it?

Jamie-Lynn Sigler: My initial feelings about it were that it wasn't going to fall into any of the cliché type of genre situations. Because I saw so much more for it. When I met Chad, and talked to him about the film, he eased all of my concerns. A lot of his inspirations came from other films. It was this question about whether you can change yourself, and if you can be redeemed for a past. Can you move on and reinvent yourself? Or are you always haunted by your past decisions? There were a lot of questions that were raised, that we see constantly. When we were making the film, and when we were watching the film. There were a lot of things that we talked about. It was on a much deeper level than it just being a horror-thriller, as some people like to call it. There are deeper emotions there. It's at a different level, and there are moral questions that Chad wanted to ask himself. And he wanted others to ask themselves, after they saw the film.

Were you aware of Chris Browning's storyline while you were shooting? Or was that something you came to only once you saw the film? And were you at all confused by it?

Jamie-Lynn Sigler: I read his parts when I first read the script, but I distanced myself from anything I didn't need to be a part of. I thought he did a phenomenal job. It could have been played a lot of different ways, and Chris nailed it. Completely. He did a really great job. It is confusing when you don't know what is going on. But once you can piece everything together, you really do appreciate it.

I was a little confused at the beginning. I thought maybe I was watching Chris play twin brothers.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler: Yeah.

Chris is as intense in his role as Josh. What was it like getting to watch him work on set? He amazed me in this film...

Jamie-Lynn Sigler: He is a regular guy, but on screen he is intense. Chad was adamant with me that Adrienne be the lightness in this film. He wanted her to be sunny, and smiling, and laughing. At first, I thought, "Here I am working with these guys who are very intense. They are dark, and interesting, and off beat." Chad was very adamant that Adrienne was not that. She was a symbol to us of Paul's new direction in life. Where he wanted to go. What he wanted to be a part of. What he hoped to be influenced by eventually. Working with them? You can get yourself lost in their performances. They are incredibly talented.

You bring up an interesting thought. Adrienne is like an angel in this story. What do you personally think about this ultimatum that is made at the end of the movie? This almost doesn't sound right. That if she is a pure sole, that she can still be captured and kept at this motel. Just like Chris' wife...

Jamie-Lynn Sigler: You'd like to say that Chris Browning's wife was not the most innocent of innocents. We're not going to feel for her the way we feel for Adrienne. With Paul, you want to side with him. And you want to support him. You always believe that he will do the right thing, and you hope he does. It's a good question. Can we get sacrificed for the choices that we make? Adrienne's choice was to trust Paul. Can she now fall victim to something because of that? It's all about the choices we make in life. We could be innocent, and bad things still happen to good people. She wanted to be with him. It would have been unfortunate for her, but luckily, he made the right decision about that at the end. Adrienne is the angel. She is the innocent person amongst all of this craziness.

The film really is about the secrets that we keep. What do you think audiences will pull away from the story?

Jamie-Lynn Sigler: Could we ever be redeemed for the choices we make? Could we ever reinvent ourselves? Paul was reformed. He was a good guy. You don't want to believe that he was capable of what he did. Neither did she. But it was the truth. There was a change that happened from that one choice that he made. You can make a choice and move on from it. But then, it affects someone else. In turn, that affects another person. And then another person. There is this whole wicked chain that can happen. We need too, at some point...Whether its karma, or whatever, we need to see it come around at some point. And we all need to pay for the choices that we make.

Beneath the Dark was released November 5th, 2010 and stars Josh Stewart, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Chris Browning, Angela Featherstone, Afemo Omilami, Trevor Morgan, Christopher Gessner, Robert Maxhimer. The film is directed by Chad Feehan.

StoryLine:
A documentary that takes an alternative approach to dealing with the global warming crisis.
Don't miss the new film Cool It, based on the book of the same name and lectures by the controversial author Bjorn Lomborg, in theaters November 12th.

Toronto International Film Festival 2010. Cool It Reviews:
Directed by Ondi Timoner USA/87 MINUTES/REAL TO REEL
Cool It is an eye-opening yet uneven and overlong documentary detailing the exploits of an academic scientist named Bjorn Lomborg, with the film primarily following his
efforts at downplaying the almost hysterical hullabaloo surrounding global warming.
It's worth noting that Cool It gets off to a decidedly uninvolving start, as filmmaker Ondi Timoner ineffectively establishes the credentials of his subject - which essentially forces the viewer to wonder if Lomborg is actually qualified to make his controversial claims or if he's just a guy with an opinion. Exacerbating matters is an early emphasis on big business and political policy, with the inherently dry nature of this stretch provoking a less than enthralled reaction in the viewer (ie one's eyes start to glaze over with all the technical jargon). It's only as the movie segues into its progressively intriguing midsection, which is devoted primarily to Lomborg's efforts at refuting the various claims within Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth, that Cool It finally does become a surprisingly enthralling piece of work, as there's something undeniably fascinating about watching the film's subject shut down Gore's points one by one (and, as someone else notes, the best way to capture the public's interest on a political issue is to "scare the pants off them.") Unfortunately, Cool It suffers from a final half hour that is almost exclusively devoted to the various solutions for the global warming problem, with Lomborg relegated to the background and the emphasis once again placed on pervasively dry instances of speechifying. It's an anti-climactic close that can't quite diminish the strength of Cool It's strong, informative midsection, though it's clear that the film would've benefited from some extremely judicious editing.

Synopsis:
The classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale gets a lavish CG makeover as directors Glen Keane and Dean Wellins team to tell the tale of a fair-haired beauty with long-flowing locks, a gallant hero with a heart of gold, and the evil witch who plots to keep these lovelorn innocents apart.

Movie Story:
Story of Rapunzel, a girl, who after being locked in a tower by an evil witch, lets her beautiful hair grow until it was long enough to reach the ground. Soon, a prince arrives and calls to Rapunzel to let down her hair so he can climb into the tower window to rescue her.

Movie Views:
I really don't think Mother Gothica is really up to par with the magnificent Dr. Facilier.. I think she's kinda like Queen Narrisa from Enchanted.. infact the voices somewhat sound the same. I will give it points on Flynn being yet another step up in Disney men and Rapunzle isn't too bad, just well.. she acts a bit like Charlotte from PATF. I doubt the new marketing will really bring in boys and releasing it on Nov 24..um HP7 Comes out on Nov 19.. do they really want a repeat of last year.

I'm really excited! I feel like this will be another Little mermaid.
Not only does it have a new animation style but it will make the male and female roles equal. TLM made the female have a personality, I admit the male had a personality in Aladdin but then the female was lost. Also, Mother Gothel looks like an evil version of my favorite teacher.

The Wrap is reporting that, contrary to previous reports, the Mary Jane Watson character will not appear in Marc Webb's Untitled Spider-Man Reboot.
A new report indicates that James Vanderbilt's screenplay always had Gwen Stacy as the sole female character.
Last month we reported that actress Emma Stone was playing Mary Jane Watson, then a few days later it was revealed that Emma Stone was actually playing Gwen Stacy. There was speculation that both Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy would appear in the remake, although now it seems James Vanderbilt's screenplay never included the Mary Jane Watson character at all. There was apparently talk of bringing Mary Jane into the project, although they ended up sticking with Gwen Stacy as the lead female character. We reported yesterday that Martin Sheen will play Uncle Ben and Sally Field is in talks to portray Aunt May. However, Sally Field's deal is still in the very early stages.

Untitled Spider-Man Reboot comes to theaters July 3rd, 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

The latest issue of Production Weekly is indicating that Jeremy Renner could star as Snake Plissken in the upcoming Escape from New York remake.

There is only an offer out to the actor at this time, and it wasn't clear if he would accept the role. Its also noted that the movie will start filming in the first quarter of 2011. Jeremy Renner could feasibly shoot this project before The Avengers starts filming, where he will portray Hawkeye. Although a clear production start date for The Avengers hasn't been given yet.

Breck Eisner is directing Escape from New York from a script by Allan Loeb. We exclusively reported back in June that Timothy Olyphant, who starred in Breck Eisner's horror movie The Crazies, was considered as a possibility to portray Snake Plissken.
Escape from New York comes to theaters in 2012. The film is directed by Breck Eisner.
