Monga Movie Story:
"Pae" Arak Amornsupasiri stars as Kreng, a lovelorn veterinarian who thinks he still has a chance with his high-school crush, Fai (Yarinda Bunnag), when he learns she's just divorced. But she doesn't remember him from their school days. As the result of a drunken-driving arrest, Kreng is reunited with Fai, who comes to bail him and his best friend (her ex-husband) out of jail. Kreng is sentenced to perform community service, and so he becomes the volunteer teacher for a group of retirees who are learning how to use the Internet. This puts Kreng and Fai in touch with the older couple - Sompit (Sunsanee Wattananukul), a widow who has fallen in love with her classmate Jamrus (Krissana Setthatumrong). The silver-haired gent is a smooth talker, but he has a problem - he's losing his memory.

Plot Summary :
Starring the top two male idols in Taiwan, Ethan Ruan (Monk) and Mark Chao (Mosquito), "Monga" tells about the story of five boys from the historical district of Monga in Taipei, who join a gang because they were tired of being bullied around. As the young men enjoy their newfound status as gangsters in Monga, they have no idea that other gangs have also set their eyes on this prosperous area. Under the guidance of a veteran gangster, the youngsters are taught the heritage created by the founders of the borough of Monga. He has no idea, however, of a storm brewing that will soon break every hint of order in town, and remove the last remaining grandeur of the old town Monga.

"Monga" Moie Review :
Have you ever imagined of a romanticised triad film? "Monga" is exactly it. If you hate triad movies, and decided to skip this one, you would have missed watching a very good movie. "Monga" atypically weaves action and drama around values like friendship, brotherhood, honour and loyalty, while being underscored by wonderful music!
This gangster flick is directed by Doze Niu Chen Zer (2007's "What On Earth Have I Done Wrong?!) and stars two of Taiwan's hottest male idols, Ethan Juan ("Fated to Love You", "My Queen") and Golden Bell winner Mark Chao ("Black & White"). It's the first time both stars hit the silver screen but they have managed to avoid the usual crossover letdowns we're used to.
Mark Chao plays Mosquito, a new transfer student who's tired of being bullied and befriends a group lead by Dragon (Rhydian Vaughan) to form the Prince Gang. This being his debut performance onscreen, this actually sits in well with his acting, as his character is a fresh gangster recruit. He also manages to pull off the emotional scenes in the movie, especially during a showdown at the end.
Meanwhile Ethan Juan makes a shift from his usual prince charming persona and displays more depth this time. You'll get to see Ethan in a solid role as the tense Monk who struggles between his possibly homosexual affinity with Dragon and on the other hand, revenge.
The camerawork in "Monga" is also outstanding. The most impossible-to-miss scene is the introduction to the five members of the Prince Gang. The camera pans around the characters in one continuous take where they battle a rival gang. It is said from the director's blog that this perfect shot took 20 takes which started from 6am to 5pm in the course of one day. The music score is also worth mentioning as it artistically heightens the ambience of the movie. One such example is Air Supply's classic "Making Love Out Of Nothing At All" supporting a love scene between a prostitute and Mark's Mosquito character.
"Monga" is uniquely Taiwanese and you'd enjoy the movie more if you understand Hokkien and Min Nan. With nostalgic backdrops, impressive camerawork and music score, stellar casts (and their half-naked hot bodies in some scenes) and the director's distinct style, "Monga" is a highly recommended watch.

Plot Summary:
Based on a true story of a hermit who lived for forty years in the Tennessee woods. Felix Bush (Duvall) decides it is time to plan his funeral. But his funeral will not be any old macabre occasion. Organized by a local undertaker played by Bill Murray and his sidekick played by Lucas Black, the funeral will be more party than memorial and an event to which anyone and everyone will be invited and at which Bush will reveal a long kept secret.

Reviews:
For years, townsfolk have been terrified of the backwoods recluse known as Felix Bush. People say he's done all manner of unspeakable things -- that he's killed in cold blood; that he's in league with the Devil; that he has strange powers -- and they avoid him like the plague. Then, one day, Felix rides to town with a shotgun and a wad of cash, saying he wants to buy a funeral. It's not your usual funeral for the dead Felix wants. On the contrary, he wants a 'living funeral,' in which anyone who ever had heard a story about him will come to tell it, while he takes it all in. Sensing a big payday in the offing, fast-talking funeral home owner Frank Quinn enlists his gentlemanly young apprentice, Buddy Robinson to win over Felix's business. Buddy is no stranger to Felix's dark reputation, but what he discovers is that behind Felix's surreal plan lies a very real and long-held secret that must get out. As the funeral approaches, the mystery - which involves the widow Maddie Darrow, the only person in town who ever got close to Felix, and the Illinois preacher Charlie Jackson who refuses to speak at his former friend's funeral - only deepens. But on the big day, Felix is in no mood to listen to other people spinning made-up anecdotes about him. This time, he's the one who is going to do the telling about why he has been hiding out in the woods.

Plot Summary:
Based on rock author and punk expert Alan G. Parker's best-selling book "Sid Vicious: No One Is Innocent."
"Who Killed Nancy" is a new documentary by Alan G. Parker looking into the demise of Nancy Spungen – was it her boyfriend, punk icon Sid Vicious; was it Nancy herself; or was it one of the unsavory junkie/dealers in and out of their room that night of October 12, 1978, at the Chelsea Hotel!
On October 12th, 1978, Nancy Spungen, an ex-prostitute, sometimes stripper and heroin addict, was found dead in a bathroom at the Chelsea Hotel in New York. She also happened to be the girlfriend of the Sex Pistols' bassist Sid Vicious, who was quickly accused of her murder. Less than 6 months later, he died of a heroin overdose and the case was closed.
The death of Sid and Nancy has passed into rock legend and has only added to the controversial and notorious image of the Sex Pistols and punk music.
At the request of Sid's mother, who committed suicide in 1996, Alan Parker has devoted himself to discovering who killed nancy, by interviewing 182 people – from former sex pistol Glen Matlock to Howie Pyro, a 'face' on the NYC punk scene who was present on Sid's last night alive - and re-examining NYPD evidence, he investigates what really happened that night in room 100.
Responding to the question, "Do we finally find out just 'who killed Nancy' in room 100 at the Chelsea Hotel, Parker responds: "I think we get as close as any human being is likely too! We didn't leave any stones unturned, and we discovered more new information than I personally thought we were going to."

Movie Story:
On October 12th 1978 New York Police discovered the lifeless body of a 20 year-old woman, slumped under the bathroom sink in a hotel room. She was dressed in her underwear and had bled to death from a stab wound. The woman was Nancy Spungen, an ex-prostitute, sometimes stripper, heroin addict, and girlfriend of Sex Pistols' bassist Sid Vicious. In a trial by tabloid newspapers Vicious was pronounced guilty before noon the following day. But the case never had the chance to be brought to trial, and a number of New York cops weren't convinced. Less than six months later in a flat in New York's Greenwich Village, Sid, himself aged only 21, died of a heroin overdose. For the next 28 years the assumption was that Sid did it - case closed. Over time, the death of Sid and Nancy has passed into rock legend and has only added to the controversial and notorious image of the Sex Pistols and punk music. At the request of Sid's mother, who committed suicide in 1996, rock author and punk expert Alan Parker has devoted himself to discovering what really happened in room 100. Parker has re-interviewed 182 people, re-examined NYPD evidence, and gone back to his original interviews with Sid's mother.

Paging Captain Obvious: 'Who Killed Nancy?' Doc Centers On The Death Of Ill-Fated Sex Pistol's FUG Girlfriend
Jesus, a whole documentary on who killed Nancy Spungen? Really? Really? Uhh, here's a clue, that sad, pathetic fucking junkie Sid Vicious. I mean, didn't the filmmakers see "Sid & Nancy"? Duuuuuh.
Well, disregardless of the obvious, some "mysteries" need further investigation apparently. According to The Journal, a British-based production company has been given some scratch to make the upcoming documentary "Who Killed Nancy?"
The doc will apparently "explore the events that led to the death of Nancy Spungen, girlfriend of the notorious Sex Pistols’ bassist, Sid Vicious."
Ok, Captain Obvious, good luck with that.
You'll remember that Johnny Rotten fucking haaaaaated Alex Cox's dramatized "Sid & Nancy," but whatever, what has the twat ever liked? Revisiting his comments however, is always amusing (and likely more engaging then this doc can ever hope to be).
"To me this movie is the lowest form of life. I honestly believe that it celebrates heroin addiction. It definitely glorifies it at the end when that stupid taxi drives off into the sky. That’s such nonsense. The squalid New York hotel scenes were fine, except they needed to be even more squalid. All of the scenes in London with the Pistols were nonsense. None bore any sense of reality
The chap who played Sid, Gary Oldman, I thought was quite good. But even he only played the stage persona as opposed to the real person. I don’t consider that Gary Oldman’s fault because he’s a bloody good actor. If only he had the opportunity to speak to someone who knew the man. I don’t think they ever had the intent to research properly in order to make a seriously accurate movie. It was all just for money, wasn’t it? To humiliate somebody’s life like that - and very successfully - was very annoying to me."

Screenwriter: Ralston Jover

Release Date: July 23, 2010 (NY)
Genre: Crime, Drama

Plot Summary:
One of the most prolific and acclaimed directors of the Philippine New Wave, Brillante Mendoza has created another virtuoso exploration of the volatile Manila slums. The camerawork in this verité portrait of petty thieves and hustlers is fluid, sweeping, and seemingly untethered, as frantic as the overcrowded shacks and ditches it captures. Mendoza (2009 Cannes Winner, Best Director for "Kinatay") uses this hybrid fiction essay not to judge the questionable acts of his fringe-dwelling characters, but to subtly implicate political and religious institutions as a source of their problems.
Slingshot (Tirador)

Reviews:
Set in the slums of Manila, The Philippines, amidst the unwashed street crime of petty thieves and the seasoned corruption of a congressional campaign, Slingshot opens in a flashlight frenzy as locals pre-warn junkies, "jammers," snatchers, gays and drunks of an incoming police raid. Shot in the rapid single-camera style of a documentary, the cameras jolt and jump as local authorities round up the local male population, stripping them and sorting them on the basis of their tattoos.
The vans into which the criminals are corralled are moving billboards advertising and advocating those councilors who are tough on crime. Down at the stations, however, the criminals are released by rival councilors in exchange for an assurance of their vote. As for world relevance, how familiar is the fact that the poor and persecuted are pawned for votes?
This is a society that hedges all sides of each bet - prayer for the luck of lotteries is supplemented by games and gambling on the streets while people's day-to-day necessities are harvested by hocking stolen goods; future hopes and dreams are driven by an underlying faith in Jesus and Allah... or in the children left on filthy floors to eat their own feces as daddy gets high.
This is not so much a movie as a moving portrait - complex and complete - hopeless and honest - into the underbelly of a society that could be as at home beneath a city as within it. The footage is raw and realistic, and the pace is sustained throughout. Although interesting on its own, the film can be seen to fail if compared to the riches of South African Academy Award-winner Tsotsi or Fernando Meirelles's widely lauded City of God - both of which not only boldly brought us the chaos, but delved more than superficially into the characters responsible for all the pain.
Slingshot flies between sequences involving its major characters but does not show us their core. And without that inherent emotion, the film can only be labeled as inherently entertaining but not emotionally engaging. The feat of this film lies, instead, with its ability to deftly deliver us to a world we haven't seen before and demonstrate that the lowest denominators in society are common the globe over. The film delivers slogans, substantiated by our own daily news, that democracies are definitely not infallible.

Nam Areal Ondina Kannada Review Movie:
This is also a remarkable film in terms of the cinematography. It is the first time that a female cinematographer Anjuli Shukla, has shot for a Malayalam film. Shukla has earlier worked in films like Rarambh and Tahaan as the first Camera Assistant.
The films story deals with an unidentified body on the beach, which is claimed by three ladies.
Although the storyline seems to be interesting, the fate of the film will be decided only after July 23.

Plot Summary:
Berman had unprecedented access to the outspoken founder of the Playboy empire. Through interviews and Hefner's own voluminous archives, the Oscar-winning Berman contrasts Hef's controversial lifestyle with his battles over racial equality, First Amendment rights, abortion rights, sexual freedom, censorship and social justice.
"What fascinates me about Hef is that, while many know him only as a hedonistic, sensual playboy and a legendary lover of countless beautiful women, there is a whole other and far more interesting, far sexier side to him as well," Berman said.
Doc also includes interviews with George Lucas, Tony Bennett, Joan Baez, Jim Brown, James Caan and Jesse Jackson.

Story:
When Hefner launched Playboy magazine in 1953, he became a champion of the sexual revolution and, immediately, the forces of Church and State initiated a war against him that raged over the decades. Hefner is revealed both as a hedonistic playboy, but, more importantly, as the man who's been a groundbreaking advocate and catalyst for civil rights, the First Amendment, and human rights. With humor and insight, the film captures Hefner's fierce battles with the government, the religious right, and militant feminists. Compelling interviews with a remarkable Who's Who of the decades, and rare footage, present a snapshot of the life of an extraordinary man and the controversies that surrounded him.

Movie Reviews:
Teeming with commentary from well-known celebrities, this exceptional doc about Hugh Hefner and the ascent of liberalism celebrates both the iconic Playboy founder and the receding of taboos and prejudice over the past half-century.
What fascinates most in Oscar-winning filmmaker Brigitte Berman’s slick and sublime Hugh Hefner: Playboy, Activist and Rebel is the reminder (or news to many) that the publishing magnate and lifestyle revolutionary was every bit as much activist, rebel and reformer as he was playboy. This lively documentary, which conveys the magnitude of change Hefner inspired, will rivet viewers of every age and persuasion who value human rights, respect for human nature, and the unexpected from human genius.
As an important and effective liberal progressive, Hefner abetted the civil-rights movement and helped emancipate women from their circumscribed roles—so graphically etched in ’50s/early-’60s pop culture—of housebound wife and mother. A revolutionary in the realm of ideas, he fought the right-wing forces of anti-Communism and fundamentalist Christianity, intolerance, sexual repression and hypocrisy. And he had a very good time doing it.
Sure, women’s-lib leaders like Gloria Steinem and Susan Brownmiller weren’t Hef fans, as the doc makes clear. The Playboy bunnies (Steinem went underground as one of them), whether in print or on-site at the mansion, might have been victims of their illusions but certainly not of any kind of coercion or sex trafficking.
Media titan Hefner, who shed some very thick Puritanical skin as an Illinois WASP, helped many in his inner and outer circles and in the country at large. These circles included some of the country’s smartest celebs, artists and activists who, thanks to Hefner, helped forge a more tolerant, honest, less hypocritical world.
The film follows Hefner from his early years as working drone to his break from conventional life (and marriage) and founding in 1953 of Playboy magazine, which he grew into a global empire and force for change. The magazine, propelled by the infamous Marilyn Monroe cover, begot star-packed, Hef-hosted TV variety shows (“Playboy After Dark,” “Playboy’s Penthouse”), the wildly popular Playboy clubs and mansions and huge Playboy Foundation. As the franchise exploded, the magazine grew in importance and seriousness; bunnies shared pages with in-depth interviews with some of the most important thinkers and shakers of the past 40 years.
While his image is imbedded in collective minds as a pipe-smoking, decadent, robe-donning swinging Don Juan in heaven, Hefner is on the battlefront, fighting for civil and gay rights, First Amendment rights and for a sexual revolution that will reflect what men and women of all orientations need and deserve.
His enemies are the religious and political right, the latter embodied by Nixon, Reagan and J. Edgar Hoover. Also across the barricades are religious fundamentalists, anti-porn activists and militant feminists who deem Playboy bunnies as traitors and symbols of an exploitative Playboy philosophy.
An endless stream of famous personalities pass through this doc, many as talking heads, others by way of an abundance of archival footage from Hefner’s old TV shows, Dick Cavett and William F. Buckley interviews, etc. To cite just a few, the film is a rich collection of Hefner allies (Mike Wallace is a convert), rock and jazz greats (Tony Bennett, Buddy Rich, Sammy Davis, Jr., Gene Simmons), anti-war and civil-rights activists (Joan Baez, Jim Brown, Rev. Jesse Jackson), anti-Playboy combatants (Pat Boone, Charles Keating, Steinem and Brownmiller), and intellectual-provocateurs (Buckley, Gore Vidal). And then there are the boys who just wanna have fun (James Caan, David Steinberg, Tony Curtis). Hefner’s mansion gave them just that.
Hefner, whose magazine and wealth fought the bullies, began by betting big on male lust and used the windfall to back the big causes. Berman’s film, a picture of effective, unexpected liberal activism, perhaps inadvertently asks where would this country be now without Hugh Hefner and begs the question: Where can we get another one?
