September 14th, 2010
Warner Bros. is picking up a new project that will tell the tale of notorious gangster Al Capone, according to Variety.
The script is entitled Cicero, from The Wild Bunch screenwriter Walon Green. The story will follow Al Capone's beginnings in Brooklyn, leading into his time spent as a notorious gang leader who ruled the streets of Chicago during the Prohibition Era. Though he ran speakeasys and casinos throughout the city, his home base was in the suburbs of Cicero, IL, where he overtook the city government in 1924. Walon Green's script was described as a throwback to 1930s gangster movies.
No director is attached to the project at this time. John Lesher will produce the film along with Adam Kassan and Leonard J. Ackerman executive producing. Leonard J. Ackerman was a producer on the 1959 movie Al Capone.
