The Story:
The Thriller movie is based on a true murder investigation that happened in the state recently, the movie will have Prithvi playing the cop.
The Thriller Movie Review:
Prithviraj plays the role of Anwar, who is arrested for a case, will get company with Babu (Lal) in jail, and he becomes the most trusted person of Babu. Babu was arrested in regards with the Coimbatore Bomb. Later coming out of jail Anwar executes two bomb blasts. Stalin Manimaran (Prakashraj) was the investigation officer of Bomb Blasts occurred around. Babu introduce Anwar to Basheer Bhai (Sampath), and another mission was given to Anwar. Anwar have a unforgettable past which is not revealed yet. Rest of the movie tells whether he does his next mission and what was the past which is hunting him so badly.
Prithviraj excels in the role of Anwar, he is stylish and he reminds us that he is the only person who can in future, match the stardom of Mammotty and Mohanlal. He is steadily increasing his fans base and his stardom. He now have an image like that of all the youngsters in other Language Industries (Suriya, Mahesh Babu, Vijay, Allu Arjuna etc). Acting and performance wise, Prakashraj is the star of the movie. With a not great character, Prakashraj shines in particular one of the scene with Prithviraj in Police Station.
This movie can be considered as the heaviest Character received for any Young Actor in Malayalam, Prithviraj had done well though lacks something at the end product.
The Songs are already very popular and is very rare to see in Malayalam Movie that few songs from a single album is becoming chart busters, may be after 4 the People. BGM is entertaining but very irritating most of the time, too much of noises and it was very difficult to grasp many dialoges.
Is the most notable aspect of the movie. It delivers the style which is expected from Amal Neerad movie. Look out for Blast Scenes and action scenes. Very rarely we see such beautifully pictured action scenes in Malayalam Movies, My last noted good action sequences was in 15 and 18 Year old Kaalapani and Yodha, but all these things are spoiled by the immense use of Slow Motion (it's slow slow motion). Coimbatore bomb blasts is presented in the best possible way. Editing is very good.
Story selection is extremely good. Screenplay is also Good, story moves fast but screenplay is little bit slow and the most of the time movie reminds us of A Wednesday (Hindi) and Pokkiri (Telugu / Tamil), and the Hollywood movie 'Traitor'.
Its very appreciable that he included many of the real time incidents in to the story line such as the Coimbatore Bomb Blast, bomb blasts in Calicut and Ernakulam. And the story and the screenplay is a perfect for a Hollywood like thriller.
Style of the direction is very similar to that of his own Big B, the camera angle, and few locations too reminds the same. With a Strong story in hand the directer should have more focused in story rather than stylish dresses and walks. Bomb Blast was shown well but the feeling which should have come to the mind of Viewers is missing, directer fails to execute it well. With such a sensitive theme, he should have more careful with the presentation and the theme doesn't ask for this kind of style. But still is the best Amal Neerad movie till date.
Everything which is used in Big B and Sagar alias Jacky is same in Anwar also, same Slow Motion walks (Sometimes too much of slow motion irritates us, for a story like this), Leather jackets, sea shore shots and actors using the same color of dresses.In this movie also he uses popular other language actors like Prakash Raj and Sampath, we saw the same in Sagar alias Jacky (Suman, Sampath etc) and Big B (Pasupathi). Prithviraj fans will be pleased to see him in such a stylish outfit.
The directer who cared well with the bomb blast scene more than the Script, its shown as people flying (Coimbatore Bomb Blast) who were walking through the road but the Glass of vehicles near to blast is shown as unchanged. When showing same scene 3 to 4 times viewers will be more looking at the surroundings than the blast.
Only three songs in the film, and the songs are placed well enough not to make irritate anybody. Even the back to back songs in the second half will not make you loose your interest.
The Main negative view is 'the directer failed to create any kind of sympathy towards Prithviraj nor to anybody died in the bomb blast'. That sympathy was the main reason for viewers to be with the character of Naseeruddhin Shah in 'A Wednesday'.
Technical aspects are top class and watch out for Action sequences which is very stylish, but sadly is too long. Notice: The action scene with 'Shaji' and the first one in Jail.
Some of the scenes will attract you well like the reaction of Lal to the people who shouts 'Pakistani' at him.
Though have some good dialoges, at times lacks the punch needed. Unless like his earlier movies with Mohanlal and Mammotty.
Mammoty in Big B: 'Kochi may not be the same Kochi but Bilal, its the same old Bilal'
Mohanlal in Sagar: 'You know only Sagar as a Friend, but not as an Enemy'.
