THREE top Premier League clubs are poised to kick off a classroom revolution by setting up their own schools.
Education Secretary Michael Gove has called on footie teams to help educate local kids through his radical free schools.
On-the-ball directors at Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Everton will meet the minister soon.
Anyone can now set up a school free from council control. A football club running one could base its timetable around fitness and fixtures.
Mr Gove hopes a cash boost from clubs and the inspiration of footie heroes will help pupils zoom up the league tables.
Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said: "I can envisage the day when there is a Premier League school. If you have an elite athlete why not work on their education?"
Tottenham's Foundation already runs breakfast, after-school and lunch clubs providing sports for primary schoolchildren - and will have more facilities when White Hart Lane is redeveloped.
Club executive director Donna-Maria Cullen, said: "Football is a magnet so we teach through sport. Nobody truants when our coaches go into schools."
