Summit Entertainment is moving forward with its remake of 1983's The Osterman Weekend, hiring screenwriter Jesse Wigutow (It Runs in the Family) to adapt the original Robert Ludlum novel upon which the first movie was based, according to Variety.

Robert Schwentke is directing The Osterman Weekend, which was the last movie made by legendary director Sam Peckinpah. The story centers on John Tanner, who, on the eve of an annual weekend getaway with friends, is visited by a popular news reporter who informs him his friends are actually plotting to overthrow the government. When the reporter turns up dead, Tanner gets caught in a deadly cat-and-mouse game of doubt and paranoia and, ultimately, a desperate fight to stay alive long enough to figure out who he can trust and who's out to kill him.

The project had been in development at Summit since 2007, where it was initially set up as the directorial debut of screenwriter Simon Kinberg (Mr. and Mrs. Smith). Simon Kinberg is still on board as a producer, along with Peter S. Davis, Doug Liman and Jeffrey M. Weiner.

The Osterman Weekend comes to theaters in 2013. The film is directed by Robert Schwentke.
