August 25th, 2010

Miley Cyrus's new film managed to knock Steve Carell and Tina Fey's comedy off the top of the home video charts with The Last Song debuting atop the DVD and Blu-Ray sales charts, for the week ending August 22.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Date Night, which swept all three charts last week, fell to third place in the DVD sales chart and fifth place on the Blu-ray sales charts, although it managed to maintain the top spot on the DVD rental charts for the second week in a row. Taking the second place spots on the DVD sales and Blu-ray sales charts was the TV DVD set Dexter: The Fourth Season and the only other notable new release was Furry Vengeance, which took fourth place on both the DVD sales and rental charts.

While The Last Song scored a win on the Blu-ray sales charts, only 10% of the total units sold came in the BD format. It wasn't an amazing week in the BD format overall, with Dexter: The Fourth Season only selling 14% in the BD format and 16% for Date Night.

The Last Song was released March 31st, 2010 and stars Miley Cyrus, Greg Kinnear, Bobby Coleman, Liam Hemsworth, Hallock Beals, Kelly Preston, Stephanie Leigh Schlund, Nick Searcy. The film is directed by Julie Anne Robinson.
