Malaysia: New school solely for pregnant teenagers

Kuala Lumpur, Sep 1: The Malaysian government decided to open a new school exclusively for pregnant teenagers in Malacca state on Sep 16, 2010.
An official told that the purpose of opening the school is to help the girls overcome the stigma of having children without being married. The school chairman Abdul Rahman Abdul Karim told that new school will accept about 30 students and offer classes in math, science, English and other subjects as well as religious counselling for the girls.
"We want to give them a second chance to rebuild their future. After they deliver their babies, the girls can go back to their ordinary schools," said Abdul Rahman.
The school will be look after by the Islamic affairs department in Malacca state.
Earlier in Aug 2010, Malaysian media reported that he country is facing growing problem of abandoned babies. Later the Malaysian education officials reported about the teenagers who become pregnant and drop out of school. Government aims
to provide a solution for this by the new school plan.
