EXCLUSIVE: Mark Duplass Talks Jeff Who Lives at Home
September 16th, 2010
I had a chance to speak with actor/filmmaker Mark Duplass on the red carpet of The League premiere event in Hollywood this week. While most of the talk revolved around the FX series, where he plays the super-confident Pete, I also asked him about his new film, Jeff Who Lives at Home, which will be released sometime next spring. The movie stars Jason Segel, Ed Helms, Susan Sarandon, and Judy Greer. It's quite clear that the writer-director has high hopes for his latest movie:
"It's probably our favorite movie that we've ever made. We've been holding onto this script for years, waiting for the right time to do it. It's something new for us. It's still that small, intimate relationship movie that we've made, but it's on a bigger scale and it tackles some bigger things. I'm really excited about it.
The movie centers on Jason Segel as the title character, a slacker who starts to realize that there might be a higher calling in life after running a mundane errand for his bothersome mother (Susan Sarandon). Ed Helms plays Jeff's more successful and obnoxious brother and Judy Greer plays his wife.
Mark Duplass also told me that Jeff Who Lives at Home was one of the earlier scripts that he had written with his brother and writing partner, Jay Duplass:
"Yeah, I wrote this thing about four or five years ago with my brother and we didn't want to make it on the micro-budget scale like we had made our other movies, because we knew it needed a bigger budget. We just kept it in the drawer, waiting for our moment, and when we did Cyrus and people liked it, we were like, 'Let's do it.'
Jeff Who Lives at Home currently doesn't have a concrete release date at this time, but we'll be sure to keep you posted with any further news (including any new trailers) as soon as we have more information.
Jeff Who Lives at Home comes to theaters in 2011 and stars Jason Segel, Ed Helms, Judy Greer, Susan Sarandon. The film is directed by Jay Duplass, Mark Duplass.
