Haunted Universities Movie Synopsis

Based on various horror and ghost tales set in universities, the film centers around some students who encounter paranormal events in their university. They must fight against their fears and scary things that are haunting their university.
Thailand has an abundance of urban legends and horror stories about its universities. The movie tells of one main character that leads the audience into four different urban legends. The urban legends are experienced by different students, which are related to their fields of study. Watch how urban legends such as The Red Elevator, Vanishing Corpse, and murdered girl crawling to life to deliver food to a friend, among others, come to life in this horror movie.

Haunted Universities Reviews:

Ahh... remember the good ol' days in uni where we would spook each other with ghost stories or urban legends involving the campus grounds? "Haunted Universities" explores some of the most famous university urban legends and brings it to the silver screen for the audience to relive the spine-chilling moments we feel when we were left alone late at night in our dorm rooms. Combining four different tales that have been passed around students, "Haunted Universities" follows Muay (played by the gorgeous Parnward "Peoy" Hemmanee, "Bangkok Dangerous") as she takes an internship with an emergency service organisation. In the first few days of her internship, she gets herself involved (voluntary or otherwise) with some terrifying incidents surrounding universities.
Although the film aims to bring out the best in urban legends, this writer feels the directors (Banjong Sintanamongkolkul and Sutthiporn Tubtim, of "Colic" fame) tried just a little bit too hard in emulating the many styles of some of the best Asian and Western horror films to date. One can't help but to recognise scenes similar to "Ju-On", "The Ring" or even "The Sixth Sense". The storylines within each story also were a bit too choppy, going back and forth with flashbacks. One can barely pause to breathe before being bombarded with another flashing scene. Definitely not for someone who has photosensitive epilepsy!
Still, the film does have its moments - mostly with laugh-out-loud scenarios. One that comes to mind would be where a medical student 'bravely' takes on a shift at a hospital without realising what he has gotten himself into. When he finally sees the department he is supposed to be at, the expression on his face was priceless! Here, we also get to experience the annoying antics of the 'best friend' trying his utmost best to freak you out but at the same time being super funny. A definite good distraction from the bad makeup and cheap scares.
Leading lady Peoy was wonderful as Muay, bringing a lot of emotion that the audience could empathise with throughout the movie. However, the stars of the film were definitely the supporting characters, particularly Pongsit Pisittakarn and Prinya Ngamwongwan, who play Prasert and Joke respectively. The dynamics between the two were spectacular to watch.
All in all, "Haunted Universities" falls short in being an all-out Thai horror film. Whether it's intended or not, the movie veers more toward the 'hor-medy' genre (a la "Where Got Ghost?" by Jack Neo). So, if you like your horror films interspersed with a bit of humor, give "Haunted Universities" a go. Expect lots of typical 'in-your-face' ghostly shocks as well as rib-tickling moments in the midst of it all.
