Reviews
Sushmita Sen, last seen in a Tamil screen through 'Ratchagan' opposite Nagarjuna in the late nineties, is back with a bang. Though the movie is a dubbed one, it has all ingredients to become a 'Sen'sation, as the movie exploits both the beauty and acting skills of the former Ms. Universe.
Sushmita Sen's critically acclaimed Chingaari (2006), directed by Kalpana Lajmi, is all set to be released in Tamil with a sensational title: Peyar Sandhya, Thozil Dasi. Since the film has steamy scenes and on-your-face language, it has been among the most wanted films in the dubbing market.
'Peyar Sandhya, Thozil Dasi' is said to have great potential to be a hit, as it is based on a real story. The movie is based on the novel, The Prostitute and the Postman by Bhupen Hazarika. It is all about a sex worker (played by Sushmita Sen) and a love triangle between a sex worker, a postman and a priest in a village. Director Kalpana Lajmi looks deep into the devadasi system and the exploitation of a sex worker by an 'Aghori' priest played by Mithun Chakravarthy, a sadist who brutally rapes girls.
Sushmita played the role very well and received rave reviews for her performance. The Tamil dubbing has been cleared by the censor board with 'UA' certificate. The film will be released by the end of March with 30 to 35 prints.
