S
halini daughter of producer B P Srinivas debuts in Kannada Movie Mussanje Gelathi in which she plays the role of a young college student.

Shalini can’t wait for her debut film, Mussanje Gelathi to release. The daughter of producer, BP Srinivas, Shalini’s debut film is about a college student (played by Shalini) and a professor (played by her father) who fall in love. The movie has already drawn controversy because of its sensitive subject and also because father and daughter are playing the lead roles. She is, however, unruffled by controversies and thinks that people should comment on whether they’re right or wrong after they watch the movie.

Meanwhile, Shalini has a lot of other films in her kitty. In Harishchandra Ghat, audiences will see her opposite Akshay (of Ganga Cauvery fame). The shooting of the film will commence very soon in a real location (crematorium in Srirampuram, Bangalore). Her other films are Black Forest which is about a plane crash and its three stranded survivors– a boy, a girl and a baby surviving in a forest. She will also be seen playing reel life daughter to her father BP Srinivas in Yaru Hitavaru Yee Moovarolage. Shalini also has another offer from director Om Prakash Rao but as of now, she’s focusing on the shoot of Harishchandra Ghat.Mussanje Gelathi in this movie Srinivas B P and Shalini are in lead roles (Father and Doughter in real life). Srinivas B P is the professor and Shalini is the student in the same college. He falls in love with student and it goes to the extent of marrying her. Later how he realises and come to the right track forms the rest of the story.

The father and daughter in real life BP Srinivas and Shalini are playing different roles in reel life. In the Kannada film 'Mussanje Gelathi', father Srinivas is playing the professor of a college and the daughter a student. What is further more interesting is that the professor falls in love with his student! It is a mistake that the professor makes which he eventually realizes and goes back to the right track

Actor-cum-director BP Srinivas-Shalini starrer movie Mussanje Gelathi is all to set to release on August 28. It has been reported earlier that BP Srinivas and Shalini, who are father and daughter, are playing the lovers in the movie. Now, this has irked many associations. These associations have protested the release of the movie stating that the movie encourages illegal relationships.

Buzz up!
BP Srinivas is the director as well the hero of the movie Mussanje Gelathi. These associations have threatened to protest in front of the theatres, where the movie will be screened. Talking about the issue, the director says, “I know that some associations are against my movie. They have already filed a case at Chitradurga to stop the release of the movie.”

Srinivas plays a professor, who falls in love with his student. And Shalini plays the student. “The Censor Board has already watched the movie Mussanje Gelathi and has given U/A certificate to it. I don’t appear dancing with my daughter Shalini in any romantic scene. We have just done justice to our roles. And this will not affect our relationship in anyway,” adds the director-cum-actor.

It is said that Dr. Jayamala the president of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) was invited for the audio release function of the movie Mussanje Gelathi, but she had gently refused to attend the function as she herself would oppose and protest the release of such a movie that deals with father-daughter romance on-screen.

In a sense, this kind of issue will benefit the movie. It’s kind of free publicity. “I’m not at all bothered about such issues,” says the director. But many students, parents, audiences, psychologist and social thinkers have expressed their deep concern over the loss of human relationship.

M Shrinivas, the Professor in Psychology at NMKRV College Bangalore, opines, “The movie Mussanje Gelathi will have a bad effect on the society. Reel life is influencing real life in a greater way these days. This movie gives a wrong message to the society. But I know that director is not in a mood to think on this issue.”

Do you think that Mussanje Gelathi should be allowed to screen?
