CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Grammy Award-winning singer and philanthropist Shakira has been honored by Harvard University.

The Harvard Foundation, the university’s center for intercultural arts and science initiatives, gave Shakira its 2011 Artist of the Year award on Saturday.
Foundation director S. Allen Counter says the Latin music artist, who has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide, was honored for her “distinguished history of creativity” as well as for her charitable contributions

After accepting the award, Shakira challenged Harvard students to do more to improve education in developing countries.
Shakira founded the Barefoot Foundation to provide education and nutrition to children in impoverished areas of her native Colombia. She is also a Unicef Goodwill Ambassador.
Previous winners of the Harvard award include Sharon Stone, Will Smith, Jackie Chan and Herbie Hancock.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Britney Spears has lined up her first appearance in support of her new album, “Femme Fatale.”
Britney herself reportedly announced the performance on YouTube on Thursday in a video message, saying that she would perform on “Good Morning America” on Tuesday, March 29, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The YouTube clip with the pop star and her message about her performance has since been removed due to a copyright claim from Disney, which owns ABC, the network that airs, “GMA.”

According to EW, Brit said the performance would “be a morning to remember,” noting it would take place in the traditionally gay Castro district of San Francisco.
In more Britney news, producer Dr. Luke released a short listen of an upcoming track from her new song “How I Roll,” also on YouTube.

The 30-second clip features Brit’s heavy breathing, cut up in a dance beat, followed by lyrics about drinking “tequila on the rocks ‘til you make your body pops” and going “up, downtown, where my posse’s at.”
In yet even more Brit clip news, the singer dropped a sneak peek at the song “I Wanna Go,” on People on Tuesday.

Queens couple Monica Alcota and Cristina Ojeda are fighting to stay together.

A lesbian couple from Queens fighting to stay together in the U.S. found new hope this week after President Obama abandoned the Defense of Marriage Act.

Social worker Cristina Ojeda, an American citizen, petitioned for a green card for her Argentine wife, Monica Alcota, in August - even though the feds don't give gay couples immigration rights.
Now that the White House won't defend the 1996 law that bars recognition of same-sex marriages, Ojeda and Alcota hope the petition will be approved one day.

"Finally, the light of hope! Of being able to be together and live in peace," said Alcota, 35, an antique furniture restorer.
"I filed the petition because I love her, and she's my wife," said Ojeda, 25. "I should have the right to live my life with the person that I love. Those are my rights as a citizen. In a way they're being sort of violated."

Alcota - who overstayed a tourist visa and is fighting deportation - plans to appeal if she's turned down for a green card.
Their lawyer is planning to file petitions on behalf of other couples after Obama's announcement.
"It forces the government to take a position - to write a letter to an American citizen and say, 'We're denying this petition because you're gay,'" said the lawyer, Lavi Soloway.

Soloway and law partner Noemi Masliah have filed petitions for a dozen couples as part of a pro bono project.

They are bracing for a flood of new clients because of the White House's position change.
If the petitions are denied, they will take them to the Board of Immigration Appeals. The board is part of the Justice Department, which has been ordered to stop defending the Defense of Marriage Act.
Soloway hopes the board will put the petitions on hold - keeping undocumented partners from being deported until the courts make a final decision on same-sex marriage.

"Dynamic change in this area of law is currently underway," he said. "Pretty soon we all think they will be approved."

Until then, he and other experts say gay couples should not file without legal advice because of the risk of alerting the feds to an undocumented partner.
"It is increasingly easy for the government to remove you from the country," said Rachel Tiven, executive director of Immigration Equality.
"There are terrific set of potential new options on the horizon. Unfortunately, it doesn't change the game today.

The Imagine TV’s reality show hosted by actor Shahrukh Khan had its grand finale on Friday (February 25). It was a tough fight between the final 16 finale contestants. But, the man who walked away with the big amount of Rs 5 million is none other than the most consistent performer on the show, actor Kushal Punjabi.

Television actor Kushal, who also acted in films like Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal and Salaam-E-Ishq won the show after fighting it out with the final four contestants, who reached to the final round. The
finalists Claudia Ciesla, Kushal Punjabi, Captain Albert and Jai Bhagwan made it to the deciding round of the "Wipeout Zone", where Kushal emerged as the winner of 'Zor Ka Jhatka'.

'Zor Ka Jhatka' was an Indian version of internationally popular 'Wipeout'. The main backdrop of this adventurous game was set in Argentina, with 28 celebrity contestants, fighting it out to win the water challenges given to them. Katie Price a.k.a. Jordan, who has recently parted ways with cage-fighter Alex Reid, has revealed that she has maintained good friendship with her estranged husband Alex. The former glamour model has confessed that he is still coming to her house and sleeping with her occasionally.

In an interview with the Evening Standard newspaper’s ES Magazine, Katie Price spoke about Alex Reid and said, "We're separated. Yeah, he still comes to the house but we're not together. Do I go and f*** Joe Public or do I go and f*** an ex? Can anyone here tell me that they've never f***ed an ex?"

Meanwhile, Katie Price claimed that her relationship with Alex is completely different from Peter Andre. She said, "We are still friends, we are adult and amicable... The contestants who will face the public vote are:
Karen Rodriguez, a New York native, who won her audition via MySpace
Robbie Rosen, the teenager who bears a resemblance to “Saturday Night Live’s” Andy Samberg, and was once confined to a wheelchair
TaTynisa Wilson, the curly haired girl who sang out of tune during Hollywood Week and lost the lyrics for “I Hope You Dance,” but got it together for her final performance
Tim Halperin, the cutie from Fort Worth, Texas, who told Jennifer Lopez he had a crush on her

Julia Zorrilla, the brunette whose parents fled Colombia in the ‘90s

The Top 12 guys will perform on Tuesday, with the gals following on Wednesday.

Reality star Kim Kardashian is back in control of her Twitter page after a hacker accessed her account. The 30-year-old star managed to post a message from her mobile phone telling fans: "Twitter please help me get my password back! How is it that I can tweet from my cell but my home computer says wrong password!" The Twitter hacker even posted a message on the site claiming to be from Kim saying it was all clear and she was back in control.
The message said: "Everything is resolved thanks to Twitter!" However it seems this wasn't the case and she was still blocked from using the site on her computer. But a few hours later she was back on and she said: "ok guys its really me… i'm back! that was sooo annoying! hackers are so lame. like whats the point!"...

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian is set to star alongside John Travolta as John Gotti's daughter in a new mobster film, according to US reports. The 30-year-old has been named as a possible actress in the new movie, which stars Travolta. Kardashian, who is best known for her role in US reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians, has been in talks to play the role of Gotti's daughter-in-law, also called Kim, according to TMZ.com. Gotti was one of New York's most feared crime bosses and the film will tell the story of three generations of the Gambino crime family, who John Gotti led after the murder of the previous boss, Paul Castellano. In 1992 he was convicted of several crimes including 13 murders, illegal gambling, loansharking and tax evasion, and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Gotti died from throat cancer in 2002 at the United States Medical Center for Federal Prisoners in Springfield, Missouri. Hollywood star James Franco could also be starring in the movie as Junior Gotti, who is believed to have taken over as the head of the family during his dad's incarceration....

Justin Bieber may be getting ready for his upcoming world tour, which starts on March 4, but he revealed to ET Online what his plans are for his upcoming 17th birthday, which falls on March 1.

Bieber said, "I only have, like, four days, so I'm just going to relax, because I start my world tour starting on [March 4] -- so just going to mentally prepare and just relax."

He did reveal that he had no plans for a large birthday bash. He said he hopes his grandparents would be coming to his home to celebrate with him, and he hopes to spend some time with them.

He also had another reason for wanting his grandparents there and that was the all important birthday cake. "My grandma makes the best cheesecake -- cherry cheesecake. She made that for my 13th birthday."

Bieber, however, did not reveal if rumored girlfriend Selena Gomez would be attending the birthday party.

Bieber even talked about why he cut his famous hair a few days earlier. "I just wanted to, that's all, not really a big reason; I just woke up and said, 'I don't want this anymore,' so I just cut it."

He also mentioned he was interested to see what his fans thought of the new style. "It's not really about that. You know, the fans really liked it, but they'll like me no matter what, because I think it's about the music. I'm really excited to see what the fans overseas think and take it day by day.

Rap star Eminem has become the most popular person in the world – at least, on Facebook, according to one measure.
The Detroit-born rapper officially became the most-liked person on Facebook this week with 28.9 million fans, beating out Lady Gaga by about 5,000 "likes" as of Thursday afternoon.

The accomplishment was first noted by Yahoo!’s music blog, the Amplifier.
While she may have lost the Facebook crown, Lady Gaga has 8.4 million followers on Twitter – more than twice as many as Eminem’s 3.2 million.
The Facebook "like" record isn't the only record broken lately by a rapper.
Last week, rapper Lil Wayne, who has 20.4 million fans on Facebook, broke the record for likes on a post. The idea came after an ad campaign where Oreo cookies tried to convince users to "like” them the most.

The brilliant post? "Everyone, please 'Like' this post. I'm trying to break the Guinness World Record for most 'likes' on a post in 24 hours. Let’s get it!"
All three of those musicians lose where it really matters, though: the charts.
Teen pop sensation Justin Bieber's album topped that measure of popularity this week, according to Billboard.
Earlier this month, Eminem won two of the 10 Grammys he was nominated for at the annual awards ceremony. His most heartbreaking loss was album of the year, to Arcade Fire's "Suburbs."
Luckily for Eminem, they can't touch him on Facebook.
The band has a mere 704,711 likes on its Facebook page.
