Kerala police have filed a charge sheet against actress Dr. Jayamala and two others on Tuesday for violating the Sabarimala temple's religious practice. They have been booked under Section 295 A of IPC for outraging the religious sentiments.

The Sabarimala controversy broke out in 2006, when former president of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) Jayamala claimed that she entered the holy temple at the age of 18 and touched the the idol of the presiding deity. The actress had also claimed that she wanted to do penance for her sin.

Later, the government was forced to order a crime branch probe, which reported that her claims are illogical and implausible. It also said that she had fabricated the story with the help of astrologer Panikker and his associate Raghupati.

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Ayyappa is a celibate, so, women between the ages of 10-50 are not allowed to enter the temple. Women in the menstrual age group are prohibited from entering the temple.
