Srinagar, Sep 27: After three months 'vacation', schools and colleges in troubled state Jammu and Kashmir reopened on Monday, Sep 27.
The violence in the Valley and the curfew caused the shutdown of schools and colleges. Education system has suffered immense damage during the violence. Many students were also killed in the ongoing unrest in the Valley. Re-opening of the schools was the first point in the eight-point agenda initiated by the Central government for the Kashmir peace.
"We will ensure that our children go to schools and schools remain open. We appeal to the parents to send their children to schools. However if there will be disturbances, responsibility will be fixed on the troublemakers and hooligans in case of a disturbance," said Peerzada Syed, J&K Education Minister.
However, the separatist Hurriyat Conference party leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani asked the Kashmir parents not to send their wards to schools and colleges. He also announced a fresh calendar of strikes for the next ten days.
"No right thinking person can deny the importance of education in society, but to think that the government are concerned about the future of our children is like a mad man's dream," said Geelani.
