Ramesh Arvind aka Ramesh is a Kannada actor, director and writer. He started his career with a brilliant performance as a villain in the film Sundara Swapnagalu. He has had many successes in a long career as actor, notable ones being Panchamaveda, America America, Amrutavarshini, Aaptamitra and Rama Shama Bhama, which was also his first film as director. Ramesh is known for his witty, classy movies and is a darling of the family audience. He has had considerable success in the Tamil and Telugu industries as well.Ramesh started his acting career with a villainous role in the K Balachander film Sundara Swapnagalu. He did several more supporting turns in films like Mounageete, Elu Suttina Kote, Kempu Gulabi. It was PH Vishwanath that recognized the potential in Ramesh, and made him the lead actor against actress Sudharani in the film Panchamaveda. A tragic tale of love, this film was a major commercial success. This was the first movie in a string of tragedies that Ramesh became known for. The film’s success still did not much of a difference for Ramesh’s career. He did more supporting roles in films like Shanti Kranti and Belli Modagalu. He took up the lead yet again in two more PH Vishwanath films – Aragini and Shrigandha, both against Sudharani. Both were successful, and Ramesh’s acting was appreciated critically. He then took to acting in the Tamil and Telugu film industries were he was quite successful. He returned to acting in Kannada cinema with a brilliant turn in Anuraga Sangama where he shared screen space with Kumar Govind.
In 1996, he appeared in the Sunil Kumar Desai film Nammoora Mandara Hoove where he played third wheel to the Shiv Rajkumar-Prema screen pair. His performance was the best reviewed in the film. Ramesh followed this up with his two major releases next year, America America and Amrutavarshini. While he was an unconventional hero in Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar’s America America, Amrutavarshini saw him return to a villainous role. Both films won rave reviews from critics, and both were major commercial successes. Both the films fetched acting awards for Ramesh and consolidated his position as a serious actor in the Kannada industry. His next set of movies like Mungarina Minchu, Prema Raga Haadu Gelati, Tutta Mutta, Chandramukhi Pranasakhi established Ramesh firmly as a bankable star in Kannada cinema. He explored comedy in films like Ulta Pulta, Joke Falls, Kurigalu Saar Kurigalu, Rama Shama Bhama (his directorial debut) which were box office successes.
Movie Story:
Ramesh continued to act in support to lead actors. In Aaptamitra, Ramesh played Soundarya’s concerned husband who turns to the psychiatrist Dr Vishnuvardhan for help. A good friend to Dr Vishnu, he appeared in two more films supporting the thespian – Varsha and Vishnusena which were less successful than the massive hit Aaptamitra. In 2008, Ramesh had a single release – Accident, which he directed as well as acted in. The film revolved around a murder termed as accident, and though Ramesh was appreciated for changing his genre, it didn’t work well with the audience. Ramesh will return to familiar territory in 2009 with two comedies – Krishna Nee Late Aagi Baaro to be directed by Kurigalu friend Mohan and his own Venkata in Sankata.Ramesh proved that he was a talented writer when he wrote the script and screenplay for the national award winning film Hoomale. He took up direction with the 2005 film Rama Shama Bhama and achieved a coup by casting Kamal Hassan in a supporting role. The film was a remake of the Tamil Hit Sati Leelavati. It was appreciated and was a commercial success. This enabled Ramesh to direct another remake, this time of the Hindi film Maine Pyar Krun Kiya. This too was a comedy, but was less successful than his previous. Ramesh switched gears and directed a thriller next, called Accident loosely inspired by the English film Constant Gardener. While this film was appreciated by critics, it was not a commercial success. Ramesh is directing a comedy next – Venkata in Sankata from three leading ladies.
