Kannada actress Dr. Bharathi Vishnuvardhan, who is planning to take up several charity works on the eve of her late husband Dr. Vishnuvardhan's birthday on 18th September, has become a real life heroine by saving the life of a boy named Akshay Rao Salanke. She gave financial assistance to this 18-year-old boy, who suffered kidney failure.

Akshay Rao Salanke, a PUC II student of Shanthi Niketan College, Bangalore, collapsed while writing II PUC final exam (English) on March 29, 2010. He was rushed to Victoria Hospital. The doctors at the hospital diagnosed his illness as kidney failure and suggested transplant, which would cost more than Rs.4 lakhs.

Akshay's father Mr.Parashurama Rao, who is working with a small private company, could not afford to pay the operation charges though his wife (a housewife) was willing to donate one of her kidneys. As fate has it, Bharathi Amma, wife of late legendry actor Dr. Vishnuvardhan, learned about the boy and offered to pay a portion of surgery charge.

Akshay is currently recuperating in the hospital after successful surgery. However, his parents are finding hard to meet his post-operation expenses, which amounts to approximately Rs.8,000/- per month. Anyone who wishes to help Akshay can contact 9844321011/9343536585 or deposit the donation to Account
