Flatmate English Movie Review:
While the sequel to Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza's huge hit [REC] is still deep in post the fine people at Filmax have wasted no time in announcing Balaguero's next project. Titled Flatmate, Filmax have a huge poster for the film on the side of their booth here in Cannes but if they had promo flyers out that contained a hint of synopsis I didn't see them. Thus details are sketchy but this very clearly seems to be some sort of ghost or haunting film. More details as we get them.
Fans of REC, Romasanta and one of the 6 Films to Keep You Awake ("To Let"), get ready for Flatmate, the latest Spanish horror-thriller from director Jaume Balagueró. When originally announced, the details were slim: "Alberto Marini's screenplay is set in New York." That was it. Well guess what? Beyond the break you'll find a monster synopsis and some early promo art that comes straight of the AFM. What a week I tell ya.
Received a small tip today that Luís Tossar (although I'm pretty sure they meant Luís Tosar) will be toplining Flatmate for Filmax International. Tosar starred in Cell 211 and about a gazillion other Spanish films. Flatmate is to be directed by Jaume Balagueró off the success of his collaboration on REC and REC 2. He also directed two other genre films, Darkness and Fragile: A Ghost Story. Check out a synopsis below along with the early promo art.
"We all know who our friends are but what about our acquaintances? Those people who play a small part in our everyday lives, how well do we really know them? And how well do they know us?
Marcos works as a doorman in a Barcelona apartment building. Happiness eludes him and he feels the need to reaffirm his reasons for living on a daily basis. He goes about his day to day work mainly unnoticed by the residents of the building, but he pays close attention to them. He knows all the intimate details of their lives, everything about them, especially one of them. Clara King is a happy-go-lucky young woman, who always looks on the positive side of things. Her cheery attitude to life makes Marcos' skin crawl. He won't be happy until he has wiped that smile of her face once and for all, because Marcos feeds off other people's pain. He delights in the unhappiness and anguish of others and he loves nothing more than to plant the seed of misery and watch it grow. In Clara he has found the perfect target, and he will go to extreme lengths to make her life miserable. But Marcos is starting to get a bit too cocky, and soon his carefully thought out plans will start to unravel…
teaser poster has been revealed for Jaume Balagueró's next horror project, Flatmate, courtesy of Spanish horror site Aullidos. After the success of Balagueró and Paco Plaza's [Rec] 2 at the Spanish box office, either director can likely do whatever they want, so it's nice to see Balagueró is sticking with the horror genre.
Balagueró gave a brief synopsis of Flatmate to Aullidos, but, since it's in Spanish, we ran it through an online translator:
The director has confirmed to us who the film will be acclimated in a very luxurious building in New York. In him, a perverse plan (until it could be said perverted) at the hands of the manager of the building will be developed.
We think the key phrases here are "luxurious building in New York," "a perverse plan," and "manager of the buiding." but, just to be sure, we took the English translation and converted it back to Spanish. Then we translated it back into English just to see if more would be explained. And just to be sure you readers get the straightest shit possible, we did this three times.
The director has confirmed the movie that acclimated in a very luxurious building in New York. In it, a bad plan (until can be that corrupted) in the hands that he is responsible for the building he will be developed.
All cleared up! Sucks that I gotta wait until 2010 to see "a bad plan in the hands." At least the movie has acclimated in a luxurious, New York building!
