Romulus My Father Movie Plot:This story is based on Raimond Gaita's critically acclaimed memoir about Romulus, his beautiful wife Christina, and their struggle in the face of great adversity to bring up their son, Raimond. It is the tale of a boy trying to balance a universe described by his deeply moral father, against the experience of heartbreaking absence and neglect from a depressive mother. It is, ultimately, a story of impossible love that celebrates the unbreakable bond between father and son.

Who wants to watch a touching movie like this? Everybody, I hope!
Eric Bana as Romulus aka the father is absolutely brilliant in his performance. The haggard look of a kind father with a big heart is fleshed out perfectly by Bana. However, the scene-stealer award goes to little Kodi Smit-McPhee, who played Raimond. Yes, he's a little actor with a big talent! His performance stands on par with Bana's and I'm sure the writer must have been proud that this kid played him for the role. The mother aka Christina is played by Franka Potente with beautiful precision, making the role entirely hers. The rest of the cast are also convincing.
Cinematography work is commendable. It's bold and the application of close-ups and wide angles with strong contrasts effectively invites feel for the drama. Most of the scenery in the movie will amaze you. The outskirt area in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia dominates most of the scenes, fitting the story well.
One goof in "Romulus, My Father" is the constant changes in the wounds, black eyes and cuts on Christina's face with different scenes. Nonetheless, at a glance, the audience would not catch this, just as director Richard Roxburgh didn't. Oh it's no biggie. Perhaps what is more worrying is that this movie might cause a little boredom to those who don't follow dramas or indie flicks too well.
All in all, "Romulus, My Father" is a simple story with a great narration that would touch anybody's heart. You could watch it just for the great scenery! It's not everyday you get a tasteful drama to stir your soul and conscience.
Absolutely a classy artwork not to be missed!
