Eddie Murphy stars as a successful financial executive, Evan who has more time for his BlackBerry than his seven-year-old daughter, Olivia (Yara Shahidi). When he has a confidence crisis and his career starts going down the drain, he soon finds the solution to all his problems in his daughter’s imaginary world.
Eddie Murphy’s Imagine That: Fun filled family-comedy movie. In a light hearted way movie depicts the importance of balancing work and family life in order to be successful in all spheres of life. Directed by Karey Kirkpatrick and written by Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson.
The divorcee, career-oriented dad – Evan (Eddie Murphy) is a topnotch investment banker. His daughter, Olivia (Yara Shahidi) talks to imaginary friends, is being raised by her mom Trish (Nicole Ari Parker). When Olivia fails to adjust to school because she goes into imaginary conversations with a blanket called Goo-Gaa that she refuses to part with in class, the unhappy girl is asked to live with her extremely workaholic dad.
Evan is simply not into parenting thing. He is more concerned abou magnesium futures and their impact on Bolivian currency fluctuations, in Western metallurgy and other economical trends and growth predictions.
Olivia seeks friendship with invisible playmates in a fantasy world. Evan is irritated by Olivia’s tendency for make-believe – until the invisible playmates start to provide, through Olivia, extraordinary investment advice. Evan starts out playing along with Olivia only to get the financial information he wants, but the more time he spends with her, the more he realizes that the moments are as magical for him as they are for Olivia.
Evan’s chief rival at the firm is a Native American named Whitefeather (Thomas Haden Church,). When the firms head Tom Stevens (Ronny Cox) decides to retire, the choice to takeup the top position narrows down between Evan and Whitefeather.
Olivia informs her dad that the only way to get to the princesses is through her blanket – the Goo-Gaa. While Evan is looking like a stock fortune-teller at work, he forgets about the things that are important to Olivia. He goes to unprincipled lengths to get the Goo-Gaa, so he can make the biggest presentation of his life, but he later realizes that his big opportunity comes at a big cost. At the end, Evan makes a tough decision between his family
