Small-town boy Shawn MacArthur (Channing Tatum) has come to New York City with nothing. Barely earning a living selling counterfeit goods on the streets, his luck changes when scam artist Harvey Boarden (Terrence Howard) sees that he has a natural talent for streetfighting. When Harvey offers Shawn help at making the real cash, the two form an uneasy partnership.

As Shawn's manager, Harvey introduces him to the corrupt bare-knuckle circuit, where rich men bet on disposable pawns. Almost overnight, he becomes a star brawler, taking down professional boxers, mixed martial arts champs and ultimate fighters in a series of staggeringly intense bouts. But if Shawn ever hopes to escape the dark world in which he's found himself, he must now face the toughest fight of his life.

Fighting is both written and directed by Dito Montiel, of only A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints previously. The script was co-written by Montiel and newcomer Robert Munic, of a few episodes of "The Cleaner" to his name. Rogue Pictures will debut Fighting in theaters on April 24th this year.

Those of you that recognize Dito Montiel's name should be proud of themselves. Who is he? Dito Montiel is the New York-born filmmaker who made his directorial debut with the autobiographical A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints in 2006. That film went so well that Montiel decided to continue directing and set off to make Fighting, a rough-hewn heroic tale about high-stakes underground street fights starring Channing Tatum and Terrence Howard. We actually ran a first look for this in December of 2007, but Rogue Pictures has sent over two more new photos. This may not be Fight Club, but it might come close.

A brand new trailer of "Fighting" has made its way out along with a series of first pictures from the action drama. Sharing a look at the world of underground street fighting, the trailer posted by MySpace focuses on introducing Channing Tatum's character, Shawn MacArthur, who is given a chance to get something more than selling counterfeit goods on the streets of New York City.

For small-town boy Shawn MacArthur, everyday is a struggle. That is until he meets scam artist Harvey Boarden who sees that Shawn has a natural talent for street-fighting. As the two form a partnership with Harvey becoming Shawn's manager, Shawn is introduced to the corrupt bare-knuckle circuit, where he becomes a star brawler almost overnight. But if he ever hopes to escape the dark world in which he's found himself, he must face the toughest fight of his life.

Teaming up Channing Tatum and Terrence Howard as Shawn MacArthur and Harvey Boarden respectively, "Fighting" comes from the helmer of "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints", Dito Montiel. The script was co-written by Montiel and newcomer Robert Munic.

Sean Arthur (Tatum) is a young man who scrapes up a living scalping tickets in NYC. With family tragedy in his past and his father keeping him at a distance, this outsider has little to motivate him. A chance encounter with a veteran street-fighting coach leads to a whole new career for Sean. The ensuing bouts get tough, especially with the criminal element horning in, so Sean gets tougher. He will fight to win, not only the prize money but also the unexpected new relationships that are strengthening him.

Writer, director and musician Dito Montiel first came to the public’s attention in 1989 when his hardcore band, Gutterboy, signed to Geffen Records for $1million. In 2003, he published A Guide To Recognising Your Saints, a memoir of his life growing up in Queens, New York, during the 1980s hardcore punk scene, which chronicled his time touring, his brief modelling career and his old neighbourhood.

Adapting aspects of the best-selling book into a screenplay, he was persuaded to direct it by Robert Downey Jr., who starred in the 2007 film adaptation as the adult Dito, alongside Shia LaBeouf as his younger self and Channing Tatum.

Montiel’s second novel, Eddie Krumble Is The Clapper, about a professional audience member who’s transformed into a celebrity by Jay Leno was published last year. His second film, Fighting, starring Tatum and Terence Howard as underground street fighters, is released in 2009.

He speaks to Future Movies about genuine fight scenes, the grim reality of being a television clapper and his latest project, based on real, unsolved murders.
