The story shifts perspective between the past and the present- a glorious but crazy past of 2 starkly different people falling in love-the differences at first being exciting. In Tum Mile, a couple faces two storms. The storm within, when they come face to face after their breakup. The storm outside, when a natural calamity strikes Mumbai on 26th July, 2005 [unprecedented rainfall devastated Mumbai on this date].
After Jannat, director Kunal Deshmukh [KD] chooses a love story yet again. It's about an estranged couple, but the wallpaper in TumMile is the Mumbai floods. Naturally then, the expectations from Tum Mile are colossal, given the fact that Tum Mile is the first film that attempts to chronicle the natural calamity on celluloid, with seriousness.
Had KD limited himself to narrating the ups and downs in a live-in relationship, Tum Mile may've struck a chord. But if you're attempting a disaster movie [its promotions send out strong signals], you'd be eager to know how KD recreates the horrors of 26th July on celluloid. Let's not forget, the catastrophe is still etched in our memory and has tremendous recall-value.

While KD succeeds in depicting the tiffs between the lovers, it's the disaster aspect that doesn't make much of an impact. The Story : Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans is a film directed by Werner Herzog and starring Nicolas Cage. Terence McDonagh is a drug- and gambling-addled detective in post-Katrina New Orleans investigating the killing of five Senegalese immigrants.

Although being promoted as a remake of Bad Lieutenant (1992) during its early production, director Werner Herzog claims that this is not a remake. He says he has never seen the original and therefore does not consider this movie a remake. Additionally, producers seemed to have added "Bad Lieutenant" to the title in order to get a better marketing. Whether remake, re-imagining, follow-up or none of the aforementioned, both movies are clearly connected by the basic plot of following a drug addicted, violent cop during his encounters with crime and sex



In a June 2008 interview with The Guardian, Abel Ferrara, who directed and co-wrote the original Bad Lieutenant (1992), said that finding out his movie was being remade was "a horrible feeling", "like when you get robbed", and that those involved in this remake "should all die in hell". Michael Oher plays the role of offensive lineman for the Baltimore Ravens NFL football team. The cast on the movie have really been very relaxed in the movie for it self and does have a good sounding story for the youth. How ever he seems to catch up all he needs to be stronger as a well made American player and with the help of white family he grows as a young prospect for the Americans.

It was some kind of a comedy at times and some times movie been completely out of woods with good adoption of book and biopic of sport. It was more favorable for teens with the game of football and most of the drama goes around the young rich white lady called Leigh Anne Touhy and its been so nicely script character for Sandra Bullock. Red Cliff Chinese Movie Review :

Part 1>> In the summer of AD 208 during the Eastern Han Dynasty, the imperial army led by Chancellor (or Prime Minister) Cao Cao embarks on a campaign to eliminate the southern warlords Sun Quan and Liu Bei in the name of eliminating rebels, with the reluctant approval of the Emperor. Cao Cao's mighty army swiftly conquers the southern province of Jingzhou and the Battle of Changban is ignited when Cao Cao's cavalry unit starts attacking the civilians who are on an exodus led by Liu Bei. During the battle, Liu Bei's followers, including his sworn brothers Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, give an excellent display of their legendary combat skills by managing to hold off the enemy while buying time for the civilians to retreat. The warrior Zhao Yun fights bravely to rescue his lord Liu Bei's entrapped family but only succeeded in rescuing Liu's infant son. Following the battle, Liu Bei's chief advisor Zhuge Liang sets forth on a diplomatic mission to Eastern Wu to form an alliance between Liu Bei and Sun Quan to deal with Cao Cao's invasion. Sun Quan was initially in the midst of a dilemma of whether to surrender or resist, but his decision to resist Cao Cao hardens after Zhuge Liang's clever persuasion and a subsequent tiger hunt with his Grand Viceroy Zhou Yu and his sister Sun Shangxiang. Meanwhile, naval commanders Cai Mao and Zhang Yun from Jingzhou pledge allegiance to Cao Cao and were received warmly by Cao, who placed them in command of his navy. After the hasty formation of the alliance, the forces of Liu Bei and Sun Quan call for a meeting to formulate a plan to counter Cao Cao's army, which is advancing slowly towards Red Cliff at godspeed from both land and water. The battle then begins with Sun Shangxiang leading a light cavalry unit to lure Cao Cao's vanguard army into the Eight Trigrams Formation laid down by the allied forces.

Part 2>> Sun Shangxiang has infiltrated Cao Cao's camp and she has been secretly noting details and sending them via a pigeon to Zhuge Liang. Meanwhile, Cao Cao's army is seized with a plague of typhoid fever which kills a number of his troops. Cao Cao cunningly orders the corpses to be sent to the allies' camp, hoping to pass the plague on to his enemies. The allied army's morale is affected when some unsuspecting soldiers let the plague in, and eventually a disheartened Liu Bei leaves with his forces while Zhuge Liang stays behind to assist the Eastern Wu forces. Cao Cao hears that the alliance had collapsed and is overjoyed. At the same time, his naval commanders Cai Mao and Zhang Yun propose a new tactic of interlocking the battleships together with iron beams to minimize rocking when sailing on the river and reduce the chances of the troops falling seasick. The Eastern Wu forces look on as Liu Bei leaves the alliance. From front to back: Zhou Yu (Tony Leung), Sun Quan (Chang Chen), Lu Su (Hou Yong). Subsequently, Zhou Yu and Zhuge Liang make plans on how to eliminate Cao Cao's naval commanders Cai Mao and Zhang Yun, and produce 100,000 arrows respectively. They agreed that whoever fails to complete his mission will be punished by execution under military law. Zhuge Liang's ingenious strategy of borrowing of arrows with straw boats brought in over 100,000 arrows from the enemy and aroused Cao Cao's suspicions about the loyalty of Cai and Zhang towards him. On the other hand, Cao Cao sends Jiang Gan to persuade Zhou Yu to surrender, but Zhou Yu tricks Jiang Gan instead, into believing that Cai Mao and Zhang Yun are planning to assassinate their lord Cao Cao. Both Zhuge Liang and Zhou Yu's respective plans complement each other when Cao Cao is convinced, despite earlier having doubts about Jiang Gan's report, that Cai and Zhang were indeed planning to assassinate him by deliberately 'donating' arrows to the enemy. Cai and Zhang are executed and Cao Cao realised his folly afterwards but it was too late. In the Eastern Wu camp, Sun Shangxiang returns from Cao Cao's camp with a map of the enemy formation.

Meanwhile, Zhou Yu's wife Xiao Qiao heads towards Cao Cao's camp alone secretly, in hope of persuading Cao Cao to give up his ambitious plans but she fails and decides to distract him instead to buy time for the Eastern Wu forces. The battle begins when the South-East Wind starts blowing in the middle of the night and the Eastern Wu forces launch their full-scale attack on Cao Cao's navy. On the other hand, Liu Bei's forces, which had apparently left the alliance, start attacking Cao Cao's forts on land. By dawn, Cao Cao's entire navy has been destroyed. The allied forces launch another offensive on Cao Cao's ground army, stationed in his forts, and succeeded in breaking through using testudo formation despite suffering heavy casualties.

Uncertainty Hollywood Movie Review :

I was in the audience of the premiere screening of this film yesterday in Toronto. The movie was a wonderful combination of romance, drama, action, and plenty of subtle humour.

The plot, which alternates between two distinct locations (Manhattan and Brooklyn/Queens), was well designed to keep audiences engaged. The concept of uncertainty and the possible consequences of all decisions was well presented throughout the movie. However, the plot and central themes may not have resulted in such a great film had it not been for the acting talents of the two stars (Joseph Gordon-Levitt andLynn Collins – both present for the screening and subsequent Q&A). The filming for this movie was unique because while there was a fully developed script, it contained no dialogue and the actors improvised it during filming. They did an excellent job and the characters were very believable and the acting appeared very natural. Overall, the unique plot, talented cast, and creative filming style combined to create a wonderful film, which I hope will be appreciated by a much wider audience in the near future.

La Donation is a deeply emotional and stirring film from Quebec auteur Bernard Émond. The final work in his humanist trilogy (following La Neuvaine and Contre toute espérance), it expands on the series' themes of faith, fate and healing. Émond's graceful script enhances his distinctively subtle visual approach and is aided by a quiet but moving score from Robert Marcel Lepage. Powering the movie are the stunning and knowing performances by Godin and Guilbault, two of Quebec's finest actors, who are perfectly at home in Émond's filmic landscape.

Inspired partially by Émond's own love for the picturesque region, as well as legendary filmmaker Gilles Groulx's documentary on the town (simply titled Normétal), La Donation is a remembrance of a more pristine past, when small towns thrived on money from natural resources, and doctors made house calls. Émond urges that connections be remade between people and place, and more urgently between each other, in order for us to recognize once again the beauty and shared bond of existence.

Synopsis

Homosexuality in the Orthodox community is the subject of a very dark and disturbing Israeli film, Eyes Wide Open (Einaym Pkuhot) which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Aaron Fleishman (Zohar Shtrauss) is a father of 4 who takes over the family kosher butcher shop following the death of his father. Aarons observant world is turned upside down with the arrival of a young Yeshiva student Ezri (Ran Danker). When Aaron and Ezri begin spending time together, Aaron is quickly ostracized within the Orthodox community. Confronted by Rabbi Vaisben (Tzahi Grad), Aaron declares he was dead before meeting Ezri. We see how quickly social control turns violent and ugly in the Orthodox community when Ezri is forced to leave. Eyes Wide Open is set during a dark and wet winter in Jerusalem. Einaym Pkuhot Israel Film Review :

“Eyes Wide Open” tells the story of a married Orthodox Jewish father who falls in love with a homeless Yeshiva student. When he hires him to work as his apprentice at his butcher shop, they form a close friendship which eventually develops into an emotional and sexual relationship. Being a devout religious man, he is torn between his family and devotion to God and his feelings for the student.

The film was chosen by the International Jury for this year, which includes Chairman Niki Reiser, Filip Peeters, Wang Quan’an, and Laszlo Nemes.

Other winners are: “Nathan Larson” for The Georges Delerue prize for Best Music; “Eran Merav (Zion and his Brother) for The SABAM prize for Best Script; and “Amor van Thomas Wangsmo” for Best European Short Film.

I attended the North American Premiere of "Eyes Wide Open" at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival. This is a somewhat provocative yet understated examination of what it's like to be gay in the Orthodox Jewish world. In his first feature, director Haim Tabakman, working from a Merav Doster script, introduces us to Aaron (Zohar Shtrauss) and Ezri (Ran Danker). Aaron runs a Kosher butcher shop that's been in the family for generations. Ezri is an outsider, already under suspicion for questionable behavior, who enters Aaron's world with possible intentions beyond purchasing a hunk of meat. There's a joke there but I'll resist. The cultural constraints placed upon gays, or anyone who is different, are painfully drawn out as the neighbors decide what actions to take. The Orthodox Jewish community sends in its own goons (enforcers of God?).

This character-driven film is haunting and poignant. Like many foreign films, natural lighting is predominant. The cinema verité style, without regard to shadows, is much more powerful than images in traditional Hollywood movies -- provided the images aren't too dark -- a problem I've seen here with some films. The score is used sparsely, only to punctuate the more emotional moments.




The pace is slow and deliberate, while long takes with little dialogue allow the actors to speak with their eyes, facial movements, and body language.

Juan Oliver wants to make a good impression at his new job as a prison officer and reports to work a day early, leaving his pregnant wife, Elena, at home. His destiny is forever changed by this fateful decision, as during his tour of the prison, an accident occurs that knocks him unconscious. He is rushed to the empty but visibly haunted walls of cell 211. As this diversion unfolds, inmates of the high security cell block strategically break free and hijack the penitentiary. Aware of the violence that is to come, the prison officers flee, leaving Juan stranded and unconscious in the heart of the riot.

When Juan awakens, he immediately takes stock of the situation; in order to survive, he must pretend to be a prisoner. Juan develops a dialogue with the violent leader of the riot, Badass, and the two begin a partnership, Badass fully believing that Juan is a new inmate. Negotiations go smoothly until the rioters take three ETA (the militant Basque separatist organization) prisoners hostage. When this hits the news, it triggers a stream of prison riots throughout the country as well as demonstrations in the Basque Country. Juan quickly realizes that he is on his own as the situation becomes more politicized and the government gets involved, afraid of potential ramifications in the Basque community. As the drama heightens, unexpected shifts in character both within and without the prison occur.

A rookie prison guard finds himself trapped on the wrong side of the bars in “Cell 211,” a satisfyingly intense and suitably incendiary prison drama that keeps the viewer tightly handcuffed during its first hour before falling victim to the fraud of improbability. But by that time, the pic has earned its parole by virtue of a compelling central perf from Luis Tosar, a script that focuses exclusively on the suspense, and sharp direction that suggests hitherto uneven helmer Daniel Monzon may finally have found his niche. Commercial prospects at home are solid, and positive buzz could aid an offshore breakout.

Enthusiastic Juan Oliver (Alberto Ammann) turns up for his new prison job a day early. As he’s being given an intro to how the place works (the solidly researched pic keeps things rooted in reality), a chunk of ceiling falls onto Juan, and he is rushed, unconscious, to cell 211. Parag seriously believes he's God's chosen child. In his mid-twenties, Parag already has everything going in his life, loves the luxuries of high living and is willing to work hard and party harder for it. He has his path carved out for him up ahead and is very impatient about getting there...until one fateful evening when everything changes!

Mugdha Godse as Maansi
Parag's love interest and an independent woman who lives life on her own terms. Maansi has never asked for the commitment yet because she would like Parag to arrive at the decision himself and she loves him too deeply to question the imminent commitment. A bond that only gets deeper and sealed across the bars because Maansi is Parag's only ray of hope outside the Jail and the reason to go on despite all hurdles. Maansi is Parag's resolve.

Manoj Bajpai as Nawaab
No one knew Parag's strength except for Nawaab. In his mid- forties, Nawaab is considered honest and humble. He has already served 10 years of his 20 year jail sentence. Very few people know Nawaab's real story and fear him for it. Compassionate yet ruthless when required, Nawaab is the conscience of the story and Parag's moral compass provided; Parag is willing to listen to him.

Arya Babbar as Kabir Mallik
In his late twenties, Kabir is a sweet faced, wily character who works for the underworld inside the jail and is their chief recruitment officer. Everyone knows who he works for, yet there is a humane side to his character that is his charm.

Jail Hindi Film Music Review :

Madhur Bhandarkar’s flicks has always been an expose on the underbelly of controversially social relevant issues, and JAIL is one more add to the list. This brings out Neil Nitin Mukesh in is most news-making and challenging role with his character’s insightful journey into the dilapidated status of present-day jails and prisoners.

Bhanderkar’s consistency with meaningful social subject has met with critical acclaim with accolades but music has never been instrumental in giving it razor-shaped edges. Barring the exception of flamboyantly brazen FASHION, all his films has met with average response musically with his favorite Shamir Tandon being there at the helm of affairs mostly. JAIL adds the names of upcoming Sharib-Toshi along with Tandon’s efforts with the surprise package of great Lata Mangeshkar singing mournfully soul track for the flick. It will be the controversial burning issue, path-breaking performances with inputs of absorbing background score that will be garnering major spotlight, rather than melodic amusement, but still surprises are always there waiting to happen.



Can the addition of hot-n-happening Sharib-Toshi be peppier enough to add spice and draw listeners? Can Shamir Tandon’s aesthetics be sufficient enough to make this musically happening album? Let’s break the shackles of impounding of such “ifs and buts” and analyze the music watchfully…

I just got back from seeing "The Men Who Stare at Goats" at the Woodstock Film Festival. I walked in knowing the main plot, and I expected it to be pretty good because of the great actors it has, the premise of the story and the music used in the soundtrack. My expectations weren't only met, but they were greatly exceeded.

The story follows a broken-hearted journalist (McGregor) who goes on the job to Iraq to prove to his ex-wife he isn't weak or frail. There, he meets Lyn Cassidy (Clooney) who is a "psychic" soldier for the US government, trained by his hippie instructor Billy (Bridges) to use his mind, peace and love to overcome hairy military situations. The story is the two mens' adventure together.

The movie is essentially broken down into I'd say 3 parts. The first part is the main story of the journalist and Lyn as they travel in Iraq on a special mission Lyn is on. The second is the very humorous back-story of the history of the creation and existence of the "psychic soldiers" of the military. When I say "back-story" and "history" I mean the main background to Lyn and Billy's character, as well as the main antagonist of the story, played byKevin Spacey . The third part is the first person narration provided by Ewen McGregor about the things that are going on. He offers insight into his mind and opinions on the things he says and of himself and Lyn as the story progresses.
