Movie Plot Summary:
An adaptation of Nobel laureate Ernest Hemingway’s novel, The Garden of Eden, which was published posthumously in 1986 to great success. The novel remains one of the author’s most debated novels and is considered a departure from Hemingway’s usual work as it is widely accepted the novel is far more reflective of his personal life, perhaps even semi-autobiographical. The fact the book was not published until after Hemingway’s suicide has sparked debate as to whether the erotic nature of it was such that he never wished it published at all.
Set in the jazz age of the 1920s, the story follows a successful young American writer, David Bourne (Jack Huston), and his beautiful wife, Catherine (Mena Suvari), on their extended honeymoon in Europe. Catherine soon becomes restless and starts to test her husband’s devotion, pushing him to the limits of her erotic imagination and luring a sultry Italian girl Marita (Caterina Murino) into their inner circle. The Garden of Eden Picked Up by Roadside Attractions. October 19th, 2010
Roadside Attractions has picked up U.S. rights to Ernest Hemingway's The Garden of Eden, a feature adaptation of the famed writer's final, posthumously published novel, and plans to release the film in theaters Dec. 10, according to Risky Business.
Mena Suvari, Jack Huston, Caterina Murino, Richard E. Grant, Matthew Modine and Carmen Maura star in the Jazz Age, erotically-charged romance.
The story follows a successful American writer (Jack Huston) and his beautiful wife (Mena Suvari) on an extended European honeymoon as she becomes restless in the relationship and draws an Italian girl (Caterina Murino) into their lives.
John Irvin directed a screenplay adapted by former Paris Review editor James Scott Linville. The novel, titled "The Garden of Eden", was published in 1986, a quarter-century after Hemingway's suicide.
The Garden of Eden comes to theaters December 10th, 2010 and stars Jack Huston, Mena Suvari, Richard E. Grant, Caterina Murino, Carmen Maura, Matthew Modine, Alejandro Arroyo, Dritan Biba. The film is directed by John Irvin.
