Competition between the three women since each of them had a point to prove and hence had to take an extra step to make the best of the opportunity?

I've let my hair down in Hello Darling: Gul Panag

After being in the making for two and a half years, Hello Darling is finally up for release. For leggy females Gul Panag, Celina Jaitly and Eesha Koppikhar, this comedy around sexual harassment at workplace could well be a good opportunity to showcase their talent (and glamour), more so because Hello Darling is an out and out female centric film. One wonders though whether this also led to some added sense of competition between the three women since each of them had a point to prove and hence had to take an extra step to make the best of the opportunity?

"Aisa nahi hota hai. Whether there are three women around you or three men, as an actor you have to put your best foot forward", comes an (expectedly) diplomatic response from Gul who was earlier seen in Rann this year, "You have to consciously give your best. In fact it is great to have good actors to work with; after all it only helps you elevate your own performance."

She does go on to make a confident statement though. "In any case, I am not someone who is conscious of her looks. I am sure I would have my performance speak for itself, whether it is with three people around me or I am the only one on frame."

Hello Darling has taken a long time to reach the finishing line. Didn't that frustrate her?

"No, it did not because one has to look at the horizon, not at the past", Gul gets philosophical here, "Maybe it was all 'karma' and one can't have control over such matters. In any case, I was busy working in other films in the interim. I finished Straight and then Rann. That's the way to go because you can either sit and feel upset or move on. Now that the film is ready, we girls are trying our best to get the promotion rolling."

Talking about her films before Hello Darling, she has been seen in mostly offbeat stuff like Rann, Straight or a forgettable Anubhav (pun intended). Though she has done well in working on her own terms in the film industry, doesn't she sometimes feel that she could have perhaps deviated a little and done something which was out and out Bollywood? Why this aversion from stepping into that garden and running around those trees?

"Well, Hello Darling is precisely the kind of commercial Bollywood film that you are talking about", Gul lights up here, "It is the kind of film that I have done for lark. See, those typical hero-heroine films do not interest me much but it isn't as if I want to do only serious or performance oriented cinema. I too occasionally love to let my hair down and this is what I have done in Hello Darling.

Talking about her choice of films, Gul says she is happy to be mixing up her masala outings with offbeat cinema. "I like a mix of everything in fact", smiles Gul, "I have had been part of films like Rann, Dor, Manorama - Six Feet Under and Dhoop and I am extremely proud of them. Similarly, I am proud of films like Hello and now Hello Darling which would be seeing me in a glam look. I am a hot, hip and a sexy chic and I am proud of that."
