A love triangle forms between the legendary do-gooder Robin Hood, his Maid Marian and the archer's arch nemesis, the Sheriff of Nottingham. Robin Hood chronicles the life of an expert archer, previously interested only in self-preservation, from his service in King Richard’s army against the French. Upon Richard’s death, Robin travels to Nottingham, a town suffering from the corruption of a despotic sheriff and crippling taxation, where he falls for the spirited widow Lady Marion (Oscar winner Cate Blanchett), a woman skeptical of the identity and motivations of this crusader from the forest. Hoping to earn the hand of Maid Marion and salvage the village, Robin assembles a gang whose lethal mercenary skills are matched only by its appetite for life. Together, they begin preying on the indulgent upper class to correct injustices under the sheriff.
Hollywood Movie Robin Hood Reviews :I saw this film tonight at a pre-screening in New York City.
So why the four stars? Well, the problem is that it is exactly what I expected. Yes, I deliberately went in with low expectations and came out amused and entertainment (the point of the movies, right?). But I guess I was hoping for something that would make this film stand out among other Robin Hood movies/books - something unique. I found it in some areas, but it lacked in the areas where it would work best. For example, a positive is that this film is not a depiction of the Robin Hood legend as we know it, but more of a prequel to the legend. What happened before he became an outlaw? Beyond that, the story, it's plot, characters, jokes, dialog, action scenes and cinematography are copies of what has been done before.
