Synopsis:
Set in modern day Saigon, Vietnam and Orange County, California. A charming playboy and his best friend come to the United States to study, thinking it will be a quick few years apart from their loved ones. But they soon discover that the Vietnamese-American women are a little more than they bargain for.
The Story
Passport to Love” is a romantic comedy set in modern day Saigon, Vietnam and Orange County USA. Khang is a charming and handsome playboy; Hieu is his honest and hardworking “Bill Gates” wannabe sidekick. The boys are sent to study abroad to bring home a coveted American University degree. Once in America Khang’s life spirals into chaos, he falls for a young single mother who also happens to be the police officer who books him. Meanwhile, Hieu is trapped between the tempting Viet-American pageant girl, Jennifer and his almost too perfect fiancée, Thao back home. When Hieu’s mother falls ill, he must return to Vietnam. A distraught Jennifer follows in secrecy. As Khang stays back in America and seeks love in a whole different direction, the once self-assured Hieu finds himself riddled with indecision.

I saw a hilarious, sweet and a little sad film last night, Passport to Love, aka Chuye^.n Tình Xa Xu+'. The writer and director is a Vietnamese-American named Victor Vu. The film was in Vietnamese with English subtitles, and takes place in the present day Saigon and Southern California.
The central characters are Khang, a spoiled playboy son of a business tycoon, and Hieu, the studious and serious devoted son. Khang and Hieu go to SoCal to study and the experience changes both. Khang falls in love with the sexy Viet-American policewoman when she saves his life, then books him for DUI. His father cuts off his funding and he gets a menial job to support himself and win the policewoman’s respect. Khang is hysterical, always mugging for the camera and stealing scenes with his over-the-top shennanigans.
