But what of the visual artists responsible for bringing views of this architecture to the mass public? Time and again, architecture photographer Julius Shulman perfected this unusual and highly specialized art form, defining not modernist architecture per se (he left that up to the designers) but how the overall public perceives modernist architecture. Utilizing a pronounced visual style, this program joins Shulman on a cross-country journey to many of the structures he immortalized with his camera, complemented by the artist’s rich and detailed recollections of his work

Get ready to watch Bollywood’s most expensive film till date – ‘Blue’, with a budget of over Rs 100 crores. Blue Hindi MovieIt is also India’s first ‘official’ underwater film, based on the concept of a shipwreck and a treasure buried along with it. The movie has been directed by Anthony D’Souza, who has tried to give it a truly international feel, by hiring many top notch technicians from Hollywood. Then, there is also Australian singing sensation Kylie Minogue, who has sung for the film and also features in a song, with Akki.

‘Blue’ takes you into the depth of the Pacific Ocean, where a shipwreck has been resting for ages. With time, many fables have come to be associated with the ruined ship, of which one revolves around a treasure buried deep inside. Lured by the alleged riches, many treasure hunters have dived into the ocean. However, none of them has ever come back, with or without the wealth. Rather, the bloody trail of treasure hunters has added even more fascinating rumors to the alleged fortune, waiting to be discovered.

It is said that the treasure buried 250 feet deep into the sea is not only unreachable, but also dangerous. The reason – it is guarded by deadly sharks night and day. Now, three men have come to seek this treasure – Aarav (Akshay Kumar), Sagar (Sanjay Dutt) and Sam (Zayed Khan). Each one of them has a different motive behind his hunt for the riches. For Aarav, a filthy-rich guy, finding the treasure will give him a new high, while its search will allow him to seek the additional risk that makes life a thrilling venture.

The sincere and honest Sagar wants the treasure only for the purpose of saving his girlfriend Mona (Lara Dutta) and his brother. Last, but not the least, is the daredevil Sam, for whom it’s simply a matter of life and death. Whatever be their motives, the aim is the same – diving deep into the murky ocean and laying their hands on the treasure. As they move ahead, they not only have to deal with the sharks, but also the sinister side of human nature. Will they be able to win over the greed, treachery, and their pricking conscious?

Director: Prem R Soni
Producer: Ronnie Screwvala, Sohail Khan
Music Director: Sajid Ali, Wajid Ali
Lyricst: Junaid Wasi, Jalees Sherwani, Suzanne D Mello, Arun Bhairav
Release Date: 16 Oct 2009
Genre: Drama
Language: Hindi
Plot

Main Aurr Mrs. Khanna revolves around the story of Samir Khanna (Salman Khan) and Raina Khanna (Kareena Kapoor) who have a fairytale marriage. Samir gets his dream job and they have a great life until one wrong decision leads them to part their ways.
Kareena Kapoor falls in love with Sohail Khan and eventually breaks up with Salman Khan.

Debutant director Prem Soni is amused that some idle minds are terming MAIN AURR MRS. KHANNA as an extra marital tale. Since Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor play a married couple in the film, rumour mongers are having a field day spreading the word that Sohail Khan and Preity Zinta turn out to be third and fourth angle in the love story of Khannas.

"Hello, this is entirely the story of Khannas. Kahaani poori Mr. aur Mrs. Khanna ki hai! Yes, Sohail does play a third angle in the film and his character is quite substantial too. But please, the film is not about an extra marital affair though", protests Prem who is quick learning the trick of the trade as far as pre-release buzz, hype, rumours, scandals and 'source stories' are concerned.

MAIN AURR MRS KHANNA Music Review

"God bless all these sources and their plug-ins", says Prem in a cheeky tone, "The movie has two lead actors - Salman (Khan) and Kareena (Kapoor). Of course Sohail is important as he represents the 'main' part of MAIN AURR MRS. KHANNA. He sees a lot of things from his point of view which perhaps Salman can't. Having said that, he has a lot of on-screen interaction with both."

Talking about Sohail being roped in for the part of Aakash, Prem adds, "Once Salman agreed to do the film, he made me meet Sohail. After going through the narration, he too was game for the role. In number of movies we have seen Salman and Sohail fighting out, though in a comical way, for a girl. Rest assured, you will see an altogether different interaction between the two this time around."

Produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Sohail Khan, MAIN AURR MRS KHANNA is all set for a worldwide release this Diwali on 16th October.

Movie Review

f you’ve ever heard the classic Rush song “Tom Sawyer,” you may have found yourself flailing your arms in a rhythmic motion known as “air drumming.” Neil Peart, Rush’s legendary drummer, casts a wicked spell, but if you’ve managed to avoid it, or think air drumming isn’t cool, I give you – Power.

Adventures of Power tells the comedic tale of a New Mexico mine worker named Power, who sets out to change the world through his love of drums. But he has never learned how to play. Instead, he air-drums at his aunt’s bar on talent night. After participating in an underground “drum off” in Mexico, he is spotted by a trainer from New York and asked to train with the team. As his fellow mine workers fight for their rights back home, Power finds himself in the air-drum fight of his life against a formidable and despicable rival. Summoning strength from inner desire, Power learns what’s been driving him his whole life: he doesn’t need drums. He is drums.

Having had three shorts in the Festival, Ari Gold returns with his feature debut and shows off his multifaceted talents of writing, directing, acting, and air drumming. Enlisting a terrific group of comedic actors, he has crafted a funny and charming tale of a man, his dream, and the passion that it takes to chase it. – Trevor Groth

When hard times hit a small mining town, Power (writer-director Ari Gold) doesn’t wish for riches; he only wishes that he’d learned to play drums. But his father (Michael McKean, Spinal Tap) could never afford to buy him a drum set, so Power has embraced the next best thing: air drumming. Tired of the constant ridicule, and with nothing but a few dollars, some breakfast cereal, and the support of his Aunt Joanie (Jane Lynch, Role Models), Power sets off across the country to the “paradise” of Newark, where an underground air drumming crew has invited him to join their team. But as the big air drumming competition looms, so does a rival—multi-millionaire drummer Dallas H. (Adrian Grenier, Entourage), who thinks air drumming is an abomination and seeks to destroy Power and his crew. More than just a rock’n’roll comedy, ADVENTURES OF POWER is an epic fable about the American Dream—about making something out of nothing, and trusting in your own heartbeat as a way of changing the world. With a phenomenal soundtrack featuring original songs alongside hits by Rush, Phil Collins, the Dazz Band, and more, ADVENTURES OF POWER will have you drumming in your seat and cheering on your feet.

Review

What happens when a group of best friends from college reunite after 4 years; a pleasant mix of comedy, romance and slices of life that all of us can associate with. 3 nights and 4 days starring youthful stars like Samir Aftab and Hrishita Bhatt promises to be a surprisingly refreshing change for our recession stricken movie industry. The movie is about 6 friends who come together in Goa for 3 nights and 4 days to attend the wedding of Rocky (Samir Aftab) with his two year old girlfriend Marianne. But things are not the same with Rahul, Priya and Zoha; they have been busy making their careers and have different ideologies, whereas Amay and Antara are the same. The central role is being played Samir Aftab as Rocky, who is a trained musician and is settled in Goa. Rocky’s talents have always landed him at the right places, and he plays as the lead guy in a popular Jazz band in the beautiful city of Goa. He met his wife to be Marianne during a concert and now they are settling down together. The friends come together to remember old times, have fun on the beach and enjoy the wedding of their best friend. But surprises and emotional roller coasters are in store as they all witness Marianne backing away from the commitment of marriage. The story shows how the group evolves with each other and convinces Marianne to come back with Samir as she soon realizes that falling in love with Rocky was the best thing to happen to her. Throw in some very catchy songs, hilarious moments and romance in the air; and you have the perfect recipe for a feel good film to be enjoyed by everyone.

While for the most part, he’s been overshadowed by his elder brother Anu, composer Daboo Malik has steadily been making his mark within the music industry for a long time now. With films like Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya Yaar and Kisaan under his belt, Daboo now returns with his latest release, titled 3 Nights 4 Days, which is releasing on 9 October 2009. And he does quite well for himself…

Directed by Devang Dholakia, 3 Nights 4 Days is a youthful flick starring Anuj Sawhney and Hrishita Bhatt along with a host of newcomers; and like the film, its soundtrack, with Daboo at its helm, is similarly geared towards the youth in the listeners.
Sunidhi Chauhan at Kal Kissne Dekha concert at Ahmedabad on 21st May 2009 (6)

Khawahishein, the opening number of the album, sees Sunidhi and Daboo himself on vocal duties. A bit too heavy on the techno sounds and beats, the song works nonetheless, as Sunidhi Chauhan works her magic. While Daboo is average as a vocalist, son Amal Malik’s fast-paced arrangement ensures that the song doesn’t slag when he’s on the mic. Not exactly the one that’ll turn into a club anthem, Khawahishein is still a good start.

Sheesha brings Neeraj Shreedhar to the mic with Sunidhi. A fast-paced track again, Malik gives this one a bit of a Middle-Eastern feel, in tune and vocals. While the Hin-glish lyrics are a bit jarring, the groove of the track is quite captivating.

Amal Malik sounds a bit too much like a karaoke singer on the under-produced Jaane Yeh Kaisi, which might just be the weakest link on the album. Something in the vein of the numerous Atif Aslam tracks doing the rounds of Bollywood, the song is hampered by Amal’s less-than-competent vocals and doesn’t garner a second listen from the audience.
Akriti Kakkar at Blood donation drive – Rush of Blood in Carter Road on 6th Sep 2009 (14)

Daboo does well to pick up the slack with Har Mausam, the only ballad on the album. Akriti Kakkar and Soham sound perfect on the vocals and the soft, toned down arrangement adds to the mood. Malik’s composition also accommodates lyricist Panchhi Jalonvi’s English interludes and makes sure that the track stays in a listener’s mind for a long time.

Shaan and Sunidhi come in strong on Dosti…Forever, the peppy follow-on to the previous ballad. The foot-tapping composition and the light arrangement use the two singers’ voices perfectly and make the track a very catchy listen.

Macha Shor, which could be called the title track of the album, brings back Amal Malik to the mic, along with Shweta. The Mediterranean sound and the fast-pace help the track and Amal sounds much better than his previous track. The Hin-glish lyrics, with its Spanish sounding interludes, penned by Amal himself, are catchy, and when the track ends, one could be surprised to find oneself asking for more.

The remaining tracks, Marianne’s Sorrow, Dosti Theme, Retro Party3 Nights 4 Days Theme and are all instrumental or semi-instrumental shorts. Marianne’s Sorrow is a short instrumental track arranged to sound a bit foreboding, Retro Party isn’t much more than instrumental stock music drawn and arranged from the ’80s. Dosti Theme and 3 Nights 4 Days Theme are simply short, reduxed versions of Dosti…Forever and Macha Shor respectively and could be considered fillers on the album.

Overall, while album has its weak points, especially some of the choices for vocalists and the lyrics, they are outnumbered by the strengths of the album. Daboo Malik’s compositions are all well-etched and arranged and while there isn’t a lot of variety to it, 3 Nights 4 Days is a commendable effort from the composer.

Four individuals sign up for a psychological research study only to discover
that they are now subjects of a brutal, classified government program.

Movie Story
Four volunteers sign up for what initially appears to be a typical paid research study, only to discover that they’ve unwittingly become involved with a classified government program that was said to have been terminated nearly two decades ago, in this tense psychological thriller from director Jonathan Liebesman. The allure of a little extra cash proving too powerful to resist, four strangers decide to partake in a paid research study. As the study gets underway, the group is presented with a series of questions, and given a finite window of time in which each individual member must submit a unique numerical answer. At first, the participants all assume that the subject who gives the most obviously incorrect answer will be removed from the experiment, though it doesn’t take long for the group to realize that the correct answer isn’t always the answer that the researchers are looking for. Meanwhile, as the brooding Dr. Phillips (Peter Stormare) attempts to manipulate the study to get the answers he wants, the newest member of his team, military psychologist Ms. Reilly (Chloe Sevigny) begins questioning the ethics of such a diabolical experiment.

This goes to one of the worst movies i have seen list.
Whole movie is shot in one room. Director seems impressed with saw series and tried to create similar one room kind of horror/thriller, but sorry to say it’s an awful story and end leaves a really bad taste in the mouth. I love saw series not to mention but this movie is nothing more than a low budget, cheaply done poor scripted movie!!!

I don’t think this movie even can make it to theater but if it did I feel sorry for the the people who paid the money to watch this horrible movie.

And on top of that director has a balls to let the viewers know that there will be part 2

Reviews :

I was completely honest with actress Michelle Monaghan yesterday when I told her, right at the beginning of a one-on-one interview, that I’d been waiting a long time to watch her come alive in a role. In her relatively short career, Monaghan has already racked up quite the resume — appearing in films like Mission Impossible III, Gone Baby Gone, The Bourne Supremacy, The Heartbreak Kid and the soon-to-be-released Made of Honor. She’s got a great, girl-next-door quality about her, but is she memorable? The good news here is that Monaghan finally delivered the sort of performance I’ve known was trapped somewhere inside her, hidden behind a variety of big, flashy Hollywood films. Make no mistake, this is her film. She owns it. But is that enough to convince you to see it?

In Trucker, she plays Diane, a female truck driver with one helluva edge — not to mention a knack for drinking lots of hard liquor and taking part in more than a few unhealthy one-night-stands. She’s a selfish woman with not many friends; she knows just what she needs to keep on truckin’, and she knows just how to get it. Thing is, you’ll never see her give anything back. These personality traits become a problem when Diane’s 11-year-old estranged son (Jimmy Bennett) shows up on her doorstep one day — brought by his soon-to-be stepmother (Joey Lauren Adams) when colon cancer forces the kid’s dad (Benjamin Bratt) into the hospital. These two, mother and son, don’t care for one another, nor are they interested in getting better acquainted. He needs a place to crash for three weeks, and she needs to find a way to let that happen.

REVIEWS

“Peter and Vandy” is a love story told out of order. Set in Manhattan, the story shifts back and forth in time, juxtaposing Peter and Vandy’s romantic beginnings with the twisted, manipulative, regular couple they become. The film explores the question most couples ask themselves… ‘How the hell did we get here?’ The answer is found in the little moments. Peter and Vandy communicate through truthful, every day dialogue. They begin with the hope of new love on the horizon, adoring the little quirks about each other. As they continue, the way they bicker while trying to order takeout and begin to criticize the smallest of gestures reveals more about them than “couples therapy” ever could. Through these iconic moments, we see just who they are… and it’s familiar. By going back and forth in time, we are able to pinpoint the subtle causes that lead to the larger effects within their relationship.
We see “Peter and Vandy” through everyday scenes in their life together. Trying to have sex… Meeting for the first time… Having dinner… Small, seemingly disconnected moments, but moments we all recognize. These moments are what we are comprised of. Ordering food. Picking a movie. In these moments we see who people really are.

As the film progresses, these moments begin to connect, revealing a larger story. It becomes a game, tying together the clues, figuring out how they came together… how they end up. It’s part of the fun, but ultimately their story is told out of sequence for a greater purpose. Imagine if you could go back in time and watch yourself falling in love. Imagine if you could watch your first date with your significant other and hear the exact words you were saying. Chances are those words would be a lot different than you remember… and a lot more revealing. People come together for very specific reasons, whether they realize it or not. By first seeing Peter and Vandy’s future, we can really understand what is happening in these “small moments” in the past.

“Peter and Vandy”, like a lot of couples, don’t always know why they stay together, or why they are the way they are. But because we see things out of sequence…We do.

A haunted house makes no secret of the fact it is not pleased with its new tenants in this independent tale of supernatural horror. Katie (Katie Featherson) and Micah (Micah Sloat) are a twentysomething couple who've just moved into a new home in San Diego, California. Katie has an interest in the paranormal and believes that malevolent spirits have been following her since childhood, though Micah is not so easily convinced. However, after several nights of loud noises and strange happenings, Micah starts to agree with Katie that some sort of ghost may have followed them to the new home. After a paranormal researcher tells the couple he can't help them, Micah decides to take control of the situation and sets up a battery of video cameras so that if a spirit manifests itself, he can capture its behavior on tape. Once the surveillance cameras are in place, Katie and Micah bring in a Ouija board in an effort to talk to the spirits, a move that deeply offends the ghosts. PARANORMAL ACTIVITY was the first feature film from writer-director Oren Peli. After a young, middle class couple moves into what seems like a typical suburban "starter" tract house, they become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be demonic, but is certainly most active in the middle of the night. Especially when they sleep. Or try to.
The second sneak preview of the Telluride Film Festival, the indie-turned-studio horror pic "Paranormal Activity," unspooled in perfect conditions late Saturday: outdoors, in the dense darkness of midnight under pouring rain. And the audience, which stuck it out under makeshift ponchos and umbrellas, were primed for the experience.By now the backstory to "Paranormal Activity" is the stuff of indie-film lore. Made with a single camera for$11,000 in one house, the movie caught the attention of Paramount, which noted the film's low-budget spooks, saw it as a potential breakout along the lines of "The Blair Witch Project" and proceeded to acquire the title. The movie almost didn't make it to the fest. Telluride programming directors invited the film but could only schedule it for the Abel Gance Open Air Cinema, which screens 35 mm prints. But two days before the festival kicked off, Paramount said that it had converted two 35 mm prints and was flying them up. The movie arrived two hours before showtime.Oren Peli's film follows an an unmarried couple harassed by paranormal forces and their attempts to uncover the culprits. The essence of its psychological hook comes with several time-lapse shots of the couple asleep in their bed while all manner of bizarre but subtle phenomena unfold around them.At the screening, the crowd often muttered admonitions to the terrified characters onscreen and gasped in unison at impending threats. And while the film indeed can flirt with the obvious -- it stretches its concept a little long and repeats itself -- it also plays on our most basic fears upon falling asleep. And the ending? The less said about it, the better. Let's just say I walked back to my hotel looking over my shoulder every few steps. When people begin describing a movie as being "Very much like 'The Blair Witch Project,'" there’s a collective groan and eye roll that emerges from audiences. Whether you loved the movie or hated it, people are very turned off by the whole mock documentary/found footage movie theme that was popularized by "Blair Witch," but in all respect, it’s become a great way for indie filmmakers to tell their story and save money. It’s cheaper, and it allows for a grittier realism that sometimes works and sometimes falls flat on its face. "Paranormal Activity" succeeds with flying colors. It’s a brutal, exhausting, and genuinely horrifying little ghost flick that really makes me rethink my stance on horror films altogether. The last independent film to use this medium that won me over and has yet to catch on is "In Memorium" a movie very much in the vein of "Paranormal Activity" with pretty much the same arc and concept, and "Paranormal Activity" is in that small sub-genre that works, thanks to great performances and wonderful direction that sell the packaged concept of the entire film being "found footage" depicting a supernatural occurrence that inevitably ruins a happy couple. "Paranormal Activity" has become a slightly controversial independent film that has continued the pretense that what we’ve seen here may or may not be fictional.Like "Street Thief," the folks behind this have declined to truly explain if what we’re watching is pure fiction from innovative filmmakers, or the most realistic footage of a demonic presence we’ll ever see, and the approach toward blurring the lines of fiction and reality have split the audience for this. Fictional or not, "Paranormal Activity" acts upon its illusion wonderfully with incredible performances from its duo (if they ARE performances, that is), and utterly incredible special effects (If they ARE special… you know the rest). "Paranormal Activity" may be intent on deceiving us in a way, but for all intents and purposes, it’s a wonderful horror film that truly convinces me that the ghost sub-genre isn’t dead, after all.Every bit of dialogue feels natural, and every moment of misery, mental torture, and pain feels genuine. Micah and Katie have moved in together, and Katie is convinced that she’s been haunted all of her life. This presence that’s watched over her has apparently followed her everywhere, including this new house, and the apparition that resides with them seems to have a fond interest in Katie. Her vain and selfish boyfriend Micah is a man who seeks to document the spectacle with his camera and equipment and purposely ignores Katie’s pleas to respect the paranormal presence and refrain from taunting it. But as the nights pass, the events in the house become much more harrowing and the deliberately paced "Paranormal Activity" takes us along for this grueling experience with every breath.Micah is first amused by the proceedings and gradually comes to the realization that this benevolent force will be the death of the two and no one can help them. Every day there’s a wash of relief over the couple and the audience who feels safer but will dread the night. Every introduction of night time footage in the master bed room brings with it a sense of sheer terror of what unfolds ever so slowly. There’s nary an explanation of whom or what is terrorizing this couple, and there’s barely any hint to what is bringing terror to this household. Claw prints appear along the floors, recollections of a childhood fire Katie experienced is constantly alluded to, and the night takes on a whole new force of evil that makes every passing moment an experience that will actually leave you covering your eyes with caution.

In an alternate reality, lying -- even the concept of a lie -- does not even exist. Everyone -- from politicians to advertisers to the man and woman on the street -- speaks the truth and nothing but the truth with no thought of the consequences. But when a down-on-his-luck loser named Mark suddenly develops the ability to lie, he finds that dishonesty has its rewards. In a world where every word is assumed to be the absolute truth, Mark easily lies his way to fame and fortune. But lies have a way of spreading, and Mark begins to realize that things are getting a little out of control when some of his tallest tales are being taken as, well, gospel. With the entire world now hanging on his every word, there is only one thing Mark has not been able to lie his way into: the heart of the woman he loves.

Tala, a London-based Jordanian prepares for an elaborate wedding with her fiance, when she encounters Leyla, a young British Indian woman who is dating her best friend Ali. Spirited Christian Tala and shy Muslim Leyla could not be more different from each other but the attraction is immediate. Tala's feisty nature provokes Leyla out of her shell and soon both women reveal their feelings for each other. But Tala is not ready to accept the implications of the choice her heart has made and escapes back to Jordan where her chain-smoking high-brow mother finishes preparations for an ostentatious wedding. As family members descend and the wedding day approaches, simmering family tensions come to boiling point and the pressure mounts for Tala to be true to herself. Meanwhile heartbroken Leyla relishes her newly found sense of identity and self-respect and moves on with her new life - much to the shock of her tradition-loving Indian parents. Single again, Tala flies back to London - but it will take more than just a date set up by Ali and Leyla's sister Zara to win Leyla back.
It's a pity that films about alternate sexuality have to come wrapped in diverting and or glamourised packaging. Hence Deepa Mehta's much-applauded "Fire" was not so much about lesbianism as about two neglected daughters-in-law in a crowded Delhi home finding comfort in each other's arms.

Even Ang Lee's "Brokeback Mountain" was set in the Wild West, where apparently rodeos and ranchers have their own moral codes.

Where is that one modern film on alternate sexuality set in a normal humdrum place we all can recognise and be comfortable in?

Shamim Sarif's "I Can't Think Straight" is set in the urban jungle. And the most amusing aspect of the rather-flimsy plot is that the characters' genteel gestures of classiness are often shown to have desires and cravings that don't tally with conventional definitions of decorum.

So what do we have here? An upper class Muslim girl Leyla (Sheetal Seth) - soft, vulnerable and surprisingly in-sync with the character's sketchily-written inner world, whose snobbish parents (Dalip Tahil, Antonia Frering) are preparing for her lavish wedding when she meets Tala (Lisa Ray).

The bond that grows between Leyla and the mysterious, enigmatic enchantress Tala could have done with serious fleshing out.

The narration done in that breathy husky tone that women often adopt when trying to show they're in control, leaves out room for any deeper development beyond the surface gloss.

The film looks fetching, thanks to Aseem Bajaj's camerawork. The stately interiors of the homes and the jet-setters trying to look as if their suits are ironed while they are wearing them, give out the feeling of a film rich in texture. But alas, the content remains de-vitaminized, sapped of any life-giving energy.

Leyla's progression from self-denial to self-realisation is surprisingly devoid of pronounced punctuation marks. She lives in a world of SMS abbreviations rather than poetry. It's all done in one breathless take, in a manner of speaking.

Disappointing beyond the surface and empty to the core, "I Can't Think Straight" makes you wonder what the director was thinking...straight or otherwise.

The film's release-timing is rather unfortunate. People would want to see Lisa Ray for all the wrong reasons. But we can't feel kindly towards the film just because Lisa is ill.
