EXPECTATIONS:
In Bollywood, one can't remember when was the last time when a kiddie flick actually boasted of a good, chartbuster music. There is none that comes to mind. Due to that reason, one doesn't carry many expectations from Toonpur Ka Superhero either. Moreover, the music here is composed by Anu Malik who hasn't tasted much success off late in the times when a fresh bunch of composers have taken over the musical scene during last half a decade. One reluctantly plays on the album with hopes of one or two numbers that would be catchy enough to hold your attention to some extent at least.

MUSIC:
The beats that kick start the title song 'Let's Go To Toonpur' are actually catchy enough to make you listen to the track carefully. Ok, so lyrics by Kumaar, despite trying to be funny, aren't really arresting enough but the sound of 'Tunak Tunak' is good enough for the kids to relate to. The opening line of 'Tussi Jaa Rahe Ho' is cute as well which means that amongst the target audience, this fun number rendered by Mumzy, Veronica, H'Dhani and Anu Malik himself is not a bad start after all. No wonder, the makers too felt the same and hence included a 'remix version' of the song as well.

The song that follows next is actually a better hear with something for all age groups. 'Nach Mere Naal' is a dance number written by Kumaar which has Master Salim, Mumzy, Alisha and a bunch of children coming behind the mike. Yet again, the song is no great shakes and does bring with it a sense of deja vu. Still, from an album where one didn't have many expectations to begin with, even a conventional song like this is not a bad deal after all. Still, despite a 'remix version' following next, it doesn't quite make you play it on loud in a repeat mode this celebration season.

A song like 'Jeetoge Tum' comes out of nowhere which is actually a motivational track picturised on the lead protagonist (Ajay Devgn) who could possibly be a superhero one day. An outdated composition which is rendered by Roop Kumar Rathod along with Javed Ali and is written by Munna Dhiman, it has a sound of 'Superhero Superhero' playing in the background. Still, the song doesn't manage to create a mood of euphoria and ends up being a totally dull piece.

This is followed by 'Rubdoot' [shown as the son-in-law of 'Yamdoot']; a situational track where all would depend upon the way it comes on screen. More of a conversational song than the kind which is sung along, 'Rubdoot' (which is written by Munna Dhiman) has dialogues by Ajay Devgn with mimicry by Sudesh Bhonsle who imitates many Bollywood actors. There are some singing portions by Sonu Nigam and Altaf Raja as well and though at points the song does promise some fun moments, one waits for it to be actually seen on screen rather than just being heard.

There is some interest that develops in the album with 'Baliye' which has rap portions by Hard Kaur kick starting the proceedings. Soon, Shaan, Alisha and Anu Malik join the proceedings as well for the song which is about a 'journey to Toonpur'. A number which basically has some rhythmic beats helping it's cause, 'Baliye' written by Munna Dhiman also just about manages to be passable and leaves one to wait for the eventual picturisation.

OVERALL:
Toonpur Ka Superherro is hardly the kind of album that makes one jump with excitement. In facts one starts wondering that how could Ajay Devgn, who is generally quite conscious about music in his films, actually clear this album given the fact that there isn't any song that could be a potential chartbuster. All hopes now lie on how the songs appear on screen because a mix of Live and animation action could just about manage to help its cause.

OUR PICK(S):
Let's Go To Toonpur, Nach Mere Naal

He is someone who has made up his mind that it is going to be only horror films for him. Whether it is first film Ho Sakta Hai, his subsequent release Mallika, his ready film Ghat - The Hill Station, his in-progress Shout or his Friday's release Kaalo - each of his outings has belonged to horror genre. As India's first ever day-horror flick, Kaalo, which has a 'unknown and unnamed creature' as the central protagonist releases today, Wilson Louis talks about what fascinates him to pick up the horror genre time and again. Here is presenting director's cut, in his own words.

Why horror?
One of the reasons that horror has appealed to me is that it's an awesome amount of fun. I mean, directing sequences that have a very clear and concise goal to scare the audience, or to take the audience on a journey of suspense. My personality is sort of trial and error and I do carry "everything as a learning experience" kind of approach. We all go to see movies to escape and to be swept up in that moment, and so I don't think there's any other genre that allows us as much complete and total separation from our everyday lives as horror does--you're never any more separated from reality than you are when you're totally scared, And that's a very intense feeling.

Once upon a time
From my earliest days, I used to have vivid imaginations to see ghosts in shadowy shapes, to be emotionally connected to the unknown and to fear things that are improbable. Watching a horror film gives me an opening into that scary world, into an outlet for the essence of fear itself, without actually being in danger. Weird as it sounds, there's a very real thrill and fun factor in being scared or watching disturbing, horrific images. So why face it alone? It is better to make others scared than being scared alone. So do not blame me. I am a fan of the classics but more so a fan of what horror and sci-fi can do as an artistic tool, the way it can get to the heart of social issues and our very humanity in a way straight narrative cannot.

I had a dream
I knew I wanted my first film to be horror. So when I made my first horror film Ho Sakta Hai, it was based on black magic - one of its first kinds in Indian cinema which is now being explored by other filmmakers in India. I felt I could be experimental and explore the boundaries of film making and also felt the horror audience would be more forgiving if we were sincere in our efforts, and I believe all of that proved true. Horror films should frighten, be eerie, entertain and keep audiences on the edge of their seats and not make people run out of the theatre to the bathroom.

And then came Kaalo
I got an offer to direct my next which came from Yash Patnaik, who saw a creature in me, and I won't let him down off screen and for the on screen result. I always believe it's easy to make a feature film but it's very difficult to sell one. Yash Patnaik and Mamta Patnaik will leave no stone unturned to make this project to be seen for a wider audience. We believed that horror film's USP is its horror itself so the idea to rope in a star in film was not even considered. On the location hunt, in the deserts of Rajasthan, what inspired me was the scorching daylight, the sandstorm and the real haunted areas of Jaisalmer which obviously couldn't be captured in night time. It was thus challenging to a day horror film, for you can't hide details of the visual effects or any hidden action sequence in broad daylight. Moreover to scare the audience in total daylight without a shot of night is something I guess was never attempted before.

Kaalo - The creature
For me, tone is the most interesting thing a filmmaker has and so the Creature is a creature, it's not a ghost. Kaalo is still going to be empathetic, she is still going to be deadly, she's still going to have extreme mode of killing people intruding her territory, but it's uniquely the Creature. It's empathy for a deadly creature and tone plays a big part of that. It will deliver action and excitement, but I want it to be scary. Kaalo is not a boring creature for sure, which I'm afraid she could have been if at all if she had to mouth dialogues. She had to be physically present on the set and to be something I could film. And my skills as a visual effects director came into play only in retouching and patching whatever it is to bring it to the screen. When you use real people in real creature outfits, something magical happens and that exactly what will happen to Kaalo as a creature. I am extra happy whenever I'm shooting a kill scene; you have this sparkle in your eye. You're bouncing around, you're glowing. While filming, it was more of a horror waiting for Kaalo in full make up than filming it.

The calm complacent and ever smiling wrestling champion Khali made a tough choice when he entered Bigg Boss. He knew that food here will be limited, and work a little too wayward given his style of life. But probably he dint know that if he survived long on the show, his life would get tougher! Bigg Boss has punished Khali the bali!

Bigg Boss has noted that Khali has been somewhat inefficient in doing what he has been asked to. And that brought on some anger from the boss’s cabin. Khali has been given all those house tasks from which he was saved earlier on in the show.

The other contestants, including the likes of Samir Soni, seem to be enjoying Khali’s fall from Bigg Boss’s eyes! now people check out Khali’s culinary skills as he has been asked to cook for everybody in the house. And just like the women of the house in India do, he has been ordered to eat post everyone else has completed their meals.

If this was not enough, he will have to do the washing utensils task too, which means he gets to do the entire kitchen work by himself, without any help.

We guess Khali will manage to do this much, as he is a real hero! Best of luck!

Manoj Tiwari, the Bhojpuri star who was evicted out of the 'Bigg Boss 4' house a fortnight ago has been constantly raving about the fact that it was only because of the Khan brothers Salman Khan and Arbaaz Khan that he was made to leave the house so early.

The Bhojpuri star is miffed more so because he had to leave the house while the eviction was between him and Ashmit Patel. According to Manoj Tiwari, Ashmit had not done as much work as he had and thus the fan following for Manoj is much higher than Ashmit’s, but in spite of that it was him who had to leave.

Now after these reports were doing the rounds there were no counter arguments from either Salman or Arbaaz regarding this issue. The brothers had shown no retaliation towards Manoj Tiwari.

But recently there have been reports about Arbaaz having said that who is Manoj Tiwari? Signifying that it was not important to pay heed to what the Bhojpuri star was alleging. Moreover Arbaaz also said that since his family had known Ashmit Patel and his family since his sister Ameesha was in the industry for some time, so he had asked the fans to vote for Ashmit. But that did not mean that he had asked for Manoj Tiwari’s eviction.

Now reports are that Manoj Tiwari is alleging that the 'Dabangg' item number Munni Badnaam is actually someone else’s song and the Khan brother’s had taken someone elses’ rights to the song. He also alleged that earlier when he had pointed it out Arbaaz had asked him to shut up. At this, Arbaaz has reportedly gone on to say that since the movie has come and gone, Munni is now forgotten so why talk about the past? We wonder what Manoj Tiwari will have to say to that?

It is reported that the duo will soon be seen together on Bigg Boss 4. After all ups and down in their romantic relation in the past, the couple are way ahead of digging them again and spoiling their present and future relations. It looks like they two have no heed in coming together on one platform for a good cause. Katrina was seen walking the ramp for Salman Khan's Being Human fund raising show, while Sallu was seen performing an item number with her and Akshay in their most awaited film Tees Maar Khan.

However the earlier two instance did not show them live on-screen, thus the coming Bigg Boss 4 episode will first time bring them live on a plat wherein they will interact with each other.

Bhushan Kumar's Ready that promises action and comedy like never before is set to release on 27th May 2011.

The film, which is currently being shot in Mumbai from the house of T-Series, stars Salman Khan and Asin in the lead roles and is already creating a stir in industry circles much before its release.

After breaking all box office records with his last film Dabangg, Salman Khan is back at his comic best in Ready directed by Anees Bazmee of Singh Is Kingg and Welcome fame.

Says Bhushan Kumar, "The schedule of Ready is moving smoothly and it's been great fun working with Salman. We share a great friendship not to mention a fantastic working equation. It's overwhelming to see his commitment towards the movie. He is a thorough professional and is always there with interesting inputs wherever need be... As far as Salman is concerned, he is like family."

The man with the Midas touch says that his film has just the right ingredients that will have audiences asking for more.

"I was always looking for a script which has everything and I found that in Ready. The film has lots of humour, there are 2-3 action sequences which Salman fans will love, there are a lot of dramatic sequences, and we also have good scope for music. In short it's a total masala entertainer with proper story and screenplay," adds Bhushan Kumar.

Ok Ok, I proposed Anushka Sharma for marriage. And so what if she hasn't said 'Yes'. The good news is that she hasn't said 'No' either. A bit of playfulness is required when you interview someone, and probably more if that someone is Anushka 'Shruti' Sharma. There's nothing more Indian than being a Mumbai-ite'. Except, maybe, hard-working, irrepressibly bubbly Anushka. Perhaps that's why her 'Delhi-ite' drama Band Baaja Baaraat took everyone by surprise last week.

Sharma seems that rarest of creatures: a level-headed Bollywood young person who is more concerned about her roles than making it big in Mumbai, her current home. Creativity precedes over films for her and she really dips into her characters like the Dorito's get dipped in a hot Salsa. A perpetually busy actress, Anushka has Patiala House up for release early next year but I've already put in a word to the actress that she needs to start making or clearing some shelf space come the awards season before she embarks on yet another of her 'critically acclaimed' performances.

Our correspondent chats with the actress waiting for her flight to Delhi. What she doesn't know is that her film is making more noise in the theatres than the many descending and ascending planes at the airport.

"Band Baaja Baaraat proved a point"
What Band Baaja Baaraat proves is the fact that the audience is respectful of cinema and they want to watch good films. The film breaks the myth that only superstars make good cinema. I feel that a good film will make stars. The script is the most important here and I have, from day one stressed that it is the script of the film that is the real hero and nothing else. The audience has really made my faith stronger.

"Original and not inspired"
Before the movie came out, everyone compared our film to the Wedding Planners. We didn't raise a voice and a certain section of the media wrote negative things about the film too. Honestly speaking, we were the underdogs. But the day the film released, we knew our patience has paid off and our calmness has paid off.

"Better written role will always give out the best performance"
I am really happy that the new pairing has worked in everyone's favour. It's something that the audiences must've waited for a long time (laughs). We've been hearing from critics that after a long time they've seen a very good on-screen couple which I think is a huge compliment. It was Ranveer's first film and I was only two films old. I am so happy. But a good scripting has made our parts strong and I hope that such good parts are written for not just me, but every actor in our industry.

"Delhi as a character worked the best"
There were three main characters in Band Baaja Baaraat. That's what Maneesh would say each time we had a brief from him. They were Bittu, Shruti and Delhi. There is something Delhi about everything in the film. We have shot on actual locations and it wasn't easy. Delhi brought out the best in all of us because we all were young and were raring to prove a point, and we did, didn't we?

Anushka Sharma "Awards will come and go but I want good roles"
I had imagined I'd get all awards as a debutant in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (laughs). But that didn't happen and so I will now leave it to the panel of judges and the members of the particular awards ceremony to decide whether I will be eligible for Band Baaja Baaraat or not (laughs).

"My trust in Aditya Chopra"
One needs to be given that role. Aditya Chopra and Maneesh Sharma had that trust in me and gave me to play Shruti Kakkar. If people give me the opportunity to show my talent, I will. But not if I am not given one. Adi understands my range as an actor and is throwing me in different roles all the time and because of which I am not getting stereo-typed. I am looking forward to do more work and hope to get more such films like Band Baaja Baaraat.

"I charge what I think is my value in cinema"
After Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, a lot of offers came my way in terms of endorsements, events and films. I said no to a few because I wasn't running behind money. Money was never important when I was modelling and it isn't important for me now when I am doing films. I love acting and that's why I am here. I am a very straight forward person and when I say that money doesn't mean anything to me, it really doesn't. What I charge is always what I think is my value.

"I like to go beyond anyone's expectation"
Adi said that when he cast me for the role of Taani from Rab Ne, he thought that I would never be able to pull off something as good as that. But after Band Baaja Baaraat, he told me that I have proven him wrong. Adi Chopra for me is the ultimate person because he is my mentor. For me, if anything comes from him, it's a huge compliment and I hope I go beyond his expectations just like I have with this film.

Says the actor, "Our whole gang of friends Lovely Singh and Kareena's hair stylist Pompi were there. Luckily, I managed to get two weeks off from the shooting of Hum Tum Aur Shabana, so I could make the most of it."

His saving grace was his yoga. "Payal, who is the yoga instructor to Kareena and me, was there. So every morning, I would do my yoga." He also relived his childhood by visiting an amusement park, "After 25 years, I sat on a rollercoaster. We also went to shows and musicals like the Chinese show Ka and French one, La Ve. I even went to the casino at Caesar's Palace but didn't gamble heavily."

In return, the teenagers would be given their supply of the pills, he said.

Watch Hindi movie Rakta Charitra 2 Review - Engrossing and gripping
By: Taran Adarsh, Bollywood Hungama Friday, December 3, 2010, 11:04 [IST]

Brutality has a new name and it's called Rakta Charitra. The first part was gruesome. The second part, well, is not as violent, but is a bloodbath nonetheless. I don't think Hindi cinema has ever witnessed such gruesome murders, such manslaughter and such scenes of carnage ever. But beneath the blood and gore, slaughter and assassination lies the shocking story of enmity between two families.

Rakta Charitra undertakes to enlighten the story of vengeance in two parts. Rakta Charitra 1 depicted the rise of Pratap and how he became a demigod for the poor and the exploited. The Part 2 unfolds a new story, although it's linked with Part 1. The challenge lies in making it more attention-grabbing than its precursor.

Brutality, gore and violent behaviour are indispensable attributes of Rakta Charitra 2. The story in itself is nothing more than a customary vendetta drama, but what makes you connect compellingly with the narrative is the fact that Ramgopal Varma [RGV] has treated it like he was recounting a first-hand version of what really transpired between the adversaries.

RGV is a veteran when it comes to making films on gangland or aggression and he proved his credentials in Rakta Charitra 1. Frankly, Rakta Charitra 1 wasn't a masterpiece, although it held your attention like RGV's accomplished works, mainly Satya, Company and Sarkar. However, you cannot refute the fact that RGV is a proficient storyteller. The characters in his films are passionately built and emotions are meticulously captured and there is the trademark agitation in an RGV film. Rakta Charitra 2 has it as well.

The storyline of Rakta Charitra 2 can be elucidated in a few words, but RGV takes a strong grip of each sequence and absorbs the spectator into the goings-on. The screenplay techniques and shot compositions make him poles apart from the rest of his ilk and the flashes of brilliance can be observed at several points in Rakta Charitra 2. Also, the film has a speedy pace and doesn't give you time to contemplate over the proceedings.

Final word? Much more engrossing and gripping than Rakta Charitra 1.

Surya enacts the role of Surya, who is determined to settle scores with Pratap [Vivek Oberoi]. Surya's decision to eliminate Pratap raises several questions. What was his [Surya] background, what forced him to take this extreme step, what was the driving force behind his act, was it really justified? The Part 2 is based around the conspiracy theories enveloping the elimination of Pratap.

The first part of Rakta Charitra ended up creating enthusiasm for Rakta Charitra 2. One discovered, in the final moments of Rakta Charitra 1, that vengeance had a new face and his name was Surya. The story of Rakta Charitra 2, therefore, is crucial since those unaware of what actually transpired between the two warring factions would get their answers in this part. In fact, Rakta Charitra 2 begins with a recap of the crucial moments of the first part and only after the lengthy summary concludes does the story of Rakta Charitra 2 unfold.

I genuinely feel that Rakta Charitra 2 is amongst RGV's most significant works, not only because of how well he has implemented it, but also because of the subject material. The enmity and hatred between Pratap and Surya is justified. The turning points in the tale - Surya's wife Bhawani contesting the elections and the subsequent assassination of Pratap - take the drama to a new high. The screenplay writing [Prashant Pandey] is spellbinding; it completely sucks you into the proceedings. Conversely, there are times when you feel that certain scenes are too extensive and prolonged and should've been trimmed for a stronger impact.

RGV's visual language is stimulating. His frames speak the unspoken. RGV's penchant for unusual camera angles have also come in for sharp criticism, but it makes his films stand out from the others. In fact, the cinematography in Rakta Charitra 2 [Amol Rathod] also comprises of extreme close-up shots, unusual angles, erratic movements and complete 360 degree turn. But it works wonderfully well. I've repeatedly heard people condemning RGV for going over the top or getting loud in various departments, especially when it comes to the background score. In fact, I strongly believe that the riotous background score [Dharam-Sandeep] works very well in a film of this variety.

Javed-Aejaz's action sequences are realistically gruesome with blood essentially written all over them. Splitting the throat open, stabbing the stomach and what not, everything seems so natural and so well choreographed. Being a vengeance saga, the dialogue need to stab both your mind and heart and the lines in Rakta Charitra 2 are completely in sync with the theme and temperament of the film.

Performances are unvaryingly of a high quality. Vivek Oberoi does complete justice to his character. He delivers an equally powerful performance in the second installment. But the focus is on South superstar Surya in Rakta Charitra 2. He delivers, without doubt, one of the most aggressive and forceful performances Hindi cinema has witnessed this year. I am sure, Surya will woo not just his Tamil fans with his tremendous performance, but also find a new audience base with Rakta Charitra 2: The Hindi movie-going audience. Southern superstar Surya is a welcome addition to the ranks of A-list heroes in the Hindi film industry.

Shatrughan Sinha doesn't really get much screen time in Rakta Charitra 2. Sudeep, who didn't have much to do in Rakta Charitra 1, is in top form now. Priyamani [as Bhawani, Surya's wife] is first-rate, while Radhika Apte is superb in the sequence when she confronts Vivek. Zarina Wahab gets limited scope in this part. Anupam Shyam is satisfactory.

On the whole, Rakta Charitra 2 highlights the emotion called vengeance most convincingly. It is chilling, raw, revolting, crass and ghastly, the kind that is meant to repulse you. But let's face it: It's a true depiction of human emotions. It's a film which is easy to devour if you can absorb brutality. It is for those who don't wince easy. But I'd say, watch it for its audacity and valour. Watch it to experience the work of a rebellious film-maker who never takes a break from telling an innovative story in film after film.

The girl is strong-minded, unwavering and focused. The boy has no aspirations in life and is typically interested in having a ball. Two conflicting characters. Band Baaja Baaraat parks its plot within the 'opposites attract' blueprint, a theme common to numerous rom-coms. These two characters are poles apart, diametrically opposite and therefore mismatched. But they end up falling in love with each other.

There's talk that Band Baaja Baaraat borrows heavily from The Wedding Planner. Perhaps, the allegation germinated because The Wedding Planner and Band Baaja Baaraat talk of wedding planners. However, The Wedding Planner dealt with a female wedding planner falling in love with the bride groom, while Band Baaja Baaraat tells the story of two youngsters who start a wedding planning business and who eventually fall in love. Sure, the background setting of the two films is slightly similar, but the stories are as diverse as oranges and apples.

Band Baaja Baaraat rests on two actors - a two-film-old actress [Anushka Sharma] and a rank newcomer [Ranveer Singh]. It's a major task undeniably. They have to deliver, they have to keep the viewer's interest alive, they have to make the goings-on look convincing. If they fail in their endeavour, band-baaja baj jaayega.

Thankfully, Band Baaja Baaraat works on every level. The writing [screenplay: Habib Faisal] is crisp, the execution of the material [director: Maneesh Sharma] is worthy and the lead actors [Anushka, Ranveer] steer the film to the destination smoothly. Of course, there are minor hiccups halfway through the film, but the fact remains that Band Baaja Baaraat is, without doubt, one of the most appealing films to come out of the production house.

Final word? Band Baaja Baaraat is honest, fresh, youthful and extremely entertaining. Recommended!

Shruti [Anushka Sharma] is a 20-something no-nonsense girl from a middle class Delhi household. Focused and determined with pre-planned ambitions, her goals in life are well laid out by the time she reaches her final year of college. Bittoo [Ranveer Singh], on the other hand, has no real aim in life. As a final year college student of Delhi University, he whiles away his life having fun with his buddies.

A chance and inopportune meeting brings the two of them together on a tumultuous journey where they become partners in their very own, "Wedding planning ka bijness." The rules, however, are clear: "Jisse vyapaar karo, usse kabhi na pyaar karo" [Don't mix business with pleasure]. Together, their friendship and business enters the ups and downs of the lavish Delhi weddings. And while trying to find themselves, Shruti and Bittoo discover each other and realize that they are made for each other.

The first thing that catches your eye is the novel concept of this film. In a country obsessed with marriages and merriment, the Indian weddings are filled with rituals and celebrations and continue for several days. Of course, Band Baaja Baaraat isn't about pre-wedding ceremonies, baaraat and pheras, but about two wedding planners and how the 'bijness partners' become life partners eventually. 10 minutes into the film and you get drawn to their world: The setting, the ambience, the lingo, the overall tone and mood transport you to North India instantly.

The unique plot keeps you on toes all through the first hour. The writing is oven fresh and the situations, thoroughly absorbing. I would like to single out the sequence at the intermission, which is deftly executed by the debutant director. You know something is amiss, even though no one utters a word. And you realize how true your intuition was towards the second half, which starts off with abundant promise, but deviates into the predictable zone when the lovers have a tiff. Several sequences consequently tend to get repetitive and tedious, but even in its most flaccid and drooping moments, what saves the film from derailing is the chemistry between the lead pair.

Debutant director Maneesh Sharma, who worked on Fanaa, Aaja Nachle and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, makes a confident debut with Band Baaja Baaraat. Sharma narrates a quintessential Delhi tale most effectively. Band Baaja Baaraat would've lost the plot had it been entrusted to a lesser talent. The screenplay is wonderfully penned by Habib Faisal, a gifted writer who directed the immensely likable Do Dooni Chaar. In fact, like Do Dooni Chaar, which was also set in Delhi, Band Baaja Baaraat also captures the Delhi flavour diligently. In fact, Aseem Mishra's cinematography captures the North Indian ambience with precision.

When you attempt a film with North Indian wedding ceremonies as the setting, you anticipate nothing but frolicking compositions that don't let the fun component plunge. Music composer duo Salim-Sulaiman and lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya come up with a lively score. You take to 'Ainvayi Ainvayi' instantly; it has smash hit written all over it. 'Tarkeebein' has a certain evocative feel to it, while 'Band Baaja Baaraat' has a hugely appealing tune and goes extremely well with the mood of the film, that of marriages and merriment. It's amongst Salim-Sulaiman's best works. I would also like to mention Vaibhavi Merchant's choreography in the 'Ainvayi Ainvayi' track. It's very energetic.

Anushka is truly wonderful. The toughest part of her job must have been to speak like a typical Delhi Punjabi girl and she does it so skillfully. For the first time in her 3-film career, a film rests mainly on Anushka's shoulders, as opposed to her prior films [Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Badmaash Company], and she handles the responsibility so well. Debutant Ranveer is the lifeline of Band Baaja Baaraat. In fact, the youngster adds a lot of spontaneity and sparkle to his character, which is unsophisticated, but charming. He actually catches you unaware in the emotional moments, which he enacts so well. Here's a talent you just can't disregard. The super-energetic performance should be met with equal enthusiasm by the audience.

The supporting cast includes relatively unknown names, but I would like to single out Neeraj Sood [as Maqsoodbhai], who's excellent. Manmeet Singh Sawhney [as Rajinder] is good, while Manish Chaudhari [as Mr. Sidhwani] is first-rate.

On the whole, Band Baaja Baaraat catches you with complete surprise. It has an appealing plot, which has been handled with dexterity and most importantly, it has characters that instantly make a place for themselves in your heart. I suggest, go for this pleasant experience and illuminate your weekend.

Actress Daisy Bopanna’s Bollywood career never looked very appealing. As a result of this, she went back to act in South Indian films after Priyadarshan film Garam Masala. Daisy was also absent from action from South Indian movies for quite some time now. But if media reports are to be believed, the actress, who is famously called ‘Spicy Daisy’ down south, is back in a new avatar.

When quizzed on where she was in spite of her last film Gaalipata doing well at the box office, Daisy Bopanna says that she had taken the time off to get back in shape. The actress said in a statement to the media that she was overweight by at least 13 kilos at the time of filming ‘Gaalipata’ and felt that her looks did not do justice to the roles being offered to her and that was why she felt the need of a break in her career.

So does it mean that Spicy Daisy will spice things up in her upcoming flicks? Unfortunately, for her fans, Daisy Bopanna is not ready to do only skin shows in the second phase of her career. Though the actress wants to be a part of commercial cinema, she does not want to do a film which does not showcase the talents she had acquired during her stint as a theater actor.

Though Daisy Bopanna comes back to filmdom with a Sandalwood project, she will be based in Mumbai, from where we hope the revamped actress will get offers in Bollywood as well!

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Ayyappa is a celibate, so, women between the ages of 10-50 are not allowed to enter the temple. Women in the menstrual age group are prohibited from entering the temple.

Movie Plot Summary :
Kaalo is based on the story of a Rajasthani folktale about a witch named Kaalo, who was killed and buried by angry villagers of Kaligarh 600 years ago. Villagers believe Kaalo's ghost looms over Kaligarh village.

The village has been deserted because the villagers feared that Kaalo's ghost may return to take revenge. In the film the witch targets Young Sweeny's character and is thirsting for her blood.

Movie Full Story:
Hundreds of years ago witchery/witchcraft was practiced heavily in Europe, Africa and Asia. It has been found that between 11th and 19th century as many as 9 million women, suspected witches with supernatural powers, were mercilessly killed in these regions. In India, eastern and northern India had witnessed many incidents of withcrafts and witch-hunts.
Kaalo's story is inspired by a floktale about a witch named Kallo who used to sacrifice young nubile girls for her immortality.
Kaalo lived in Kulbhata two hundred and fifty years ago. She was killed and buried by angry villagers for sacrificing young nubile girls to satisfy her greed for immortality, but her fear lived on. Years later villagers spoke of Kaalo's sightings yet again. They claimed she was even more angry and dangerous... and she was back to finish what she left incomplete...
Kulbhata was vacated overnight by scared villagers.
All roads leading to Kulbhata were sealed by horrifying tales of Kaalo killing anyone who dared to enter Kulbhata... Until a bus carrying eleven passengers on its way to Kuldevi had to pass through Kulbhata.
One of the passengers on the bus was a twelve-year-old girl named Shona (Swini Khara) who was travelling alone to spend her vacation at her grandmother's house in the neighboring village.
Shona was clever, witty and cheerful. She soon became the life of the journey. Everyone loved her endearing manners. Especially the reclusive and reticent Sameer (Aditya Srivastav), who was traveling with a bag loaded with gun powder to blast a small hillock which would give way to a water canal for his drought hit village.
Badly disfigured and thirsty for blood, Kaalo could smell the girl from miles away... and headed straight for the bus...

She would kill everyone who came in her way... She had to have the girl anyhow...
When the passengers realized they were staring into death everything changed... from being the life of the journey, Shona became their very reason for dying...
Everyone wanted her out of the bus... Some even used her as a bait to lure Kaalo away from themselves... Human realtions changed as people fought for their survival...
One man stood upto Shona...
For Sameer it didn't matter if Kaalo was a creature or a witch...
All he knew was that he has to protect Shona... And time was running out!

Sudhir Mishra has just fought a long and hard battle with the censor board again! This time its over the content of his latest much-delayed ensemble drama Tera Kya Hoga Johny.

Apparently, the censor board objected to a sequence showing a police-man trying to rape the young hero (Sikandar Aggarwal) in custody. Sudhir not only put his foot down, he refused to cut down the sequence.

Laments the veteran-auteur, "Why does this always happen to me? It's almost as if there's a separate censorship code for me from other filmmakers. Invariably my films get into a situation on matters that are allowed to remain in other people's films."

Sudhir finds it strange that the censors objected to a sequence of atrocity in police custody. "It isn't as if I was showing something that doesn't happen. And I didn't even show the boy being sodomized. I showed the cop attempting it. The boy escapes. But so many real-life under-age delinquents go through unmentionable torture. Are we not supposed to show that?"

In another sequence, a cop shoots a man and says it happened because his hand accidentally moved on the trigger.

Says Sudhir, "They also wanted me to delete all the maa-bahen ki galis. As if we haven't seen characters abusing in other films! I really don't understand these double standards."

Rather than fight a long battle with the censors Sudhir Mishra agreed to accept an 'Adults' certificate with relatively lesser cuts.

Says Sudhir, "I had two choices. I could fight a battle or accept an 'A' certificate with fewer cuts. There was no time for a fight. I took the 'A' certificate. But I feel we need to have more uniform rules of censorship."

On a happier note, the film's leading man Neil Nitin Mukesh has finally agreed to do some promotional activities for the film. And yes the film's young protagonist, the real-life street child Sikandar is 19 now.

Says the proud surrogate-father, "Sikandar is good on the computer. He's qualified to take up a job. But he wants to continue living out of my office where I put him up after picking him up from the streets of Kolkata to play a role in my film."
