The Good Life Movie Synopsis:
Edmundo is a hairdresser who wants a car. Mario wants to play in the Philharmonic. Teresa wants her husband back. Santiago can be a very cruel place for people. "La Buena Vida" or "The Good Life" combines three stories of different inhabitants of Santiago de Chile. The experiences of a girl and her undesired pregnancy, an unemployed musician and an unsuccessful beautician touch each other in a subtle way, although their lives on the surface do not seem to be connected at all.
The Story The Good Life :
We have long admired Chilean director Andres Wood. Having seen his "Historias del futbol" and "La fiebre del loco", we were eagerly anticipating the arrival of his new film "La buena vida". Co-written for the screen by Rodrigo Bazaes and Mamoun Hassan, this film follows in the favorite narrative of a lot of Latin American creators, most notably Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, and his long time collaborator, Guillermo Arriaga. Supposedly, this film is based, loosely, one would suspect, in real stories. We are taken to meet a few people in Santiago that have nothing to do with one another, much less, know anyone of the other characters in the story, yet, at some point of the film their lives touch each and everyone of the lives of the people being followed. As the film opens, we are taken to a class being directed at what appears to be a group of prostitutes where they are shown how to avoid being exposed to AIDS, or other sexually transmitted diseases. Teresa, the therapist, needs all the help she can get; unknown to her, her teen age daughter is pregnant. Her estranged husband is fond of visiting places where encounters can be easily arranged by the same women Teresa is trying to teach safe sex... The Good Life Hollywood Movie Review: The next story centers around a male beautician, Edmundo, who at the start of the movie goes to ask for a loan. Esmeralda, the lending officer, tells him in no uncertain terms he has no chances in what he wants to secure because he has no collateral. Esmeralda, who feels attracted to the man, becomes involved in an affair with Edmundo that seems to go nowhere. Edmundo, who wants to convince his mother to help him financially, gets no help from anyone. Eventually, Esmeralda realizes he is not the man for her. The third narrative involves a talented clarinetist, Mario, who goes for an audition with the Philharmonic. His performance is rudely interrupted by the judges, who don't seem to pay attention to the musicians they are supposed to rate. Mario's most treasured possession is the clarinet his girlfriend gave him as a gift and which he takes to all important dates. When the orchestra position doesn't materialize, Mario applies, and gets a position with the police band. The last and most eluding story involves a woman who is obviously a prostitute who is seen with a young child. She appears to be sick. She cuts a tragic figure snubbed by other street workers because of her appearance. What Andres Wood has accomplished is excellent performances from all the principals. Aline Kuppenheim, stands out as the tormented Teresa. She gives a nuanced performance. Eduardo Paxeco makes a valuable contribution as the taciturn Mario, who knows that in spite of having a great talent, he is ignored by the people that can help him. Roberto Farias is seen as Edmundo, in a role that was tailor-made to show his abilities. Cheri Hollywood Movie Review :
"Cheri" is the nickname given by Lea (Michelle Pfeiffer) to the young, much younger Fred, whom she brings to discover the truth about lovemaking, and unintentionally but inevitably, about loving. The actor playing Fred is handsome, attractive, but who really hits the sign (as usually, I would say) is Michelle Pfeiffer, who proved to be very courageous in playing a role where she constantly repeats to herself how old she is. Indeed, her beauty, elegance and refinement are always there to remind her and us how difficult it is to come to terms with ageing, mainly when beauty has been the very essence of your life.
The plot is almost absent, being the story more based on emotions, moods, sensations, rather than facts, and the movie in the end manages to capture the viewer, thanks to its capability to render the emotional side through glances and through effective and intense framing of both characters and situations: the last one is incisive, almost paralyzing.
Ironic and funny moments are not absent, mainly when Cathy Bates, playing the odd, high spirited mother, enters the scene, but the overall tone is a melancholic one, above all for the female public, we cannot but sympathize with Lea's inner strength, and at the same time feel moved by her deep suffering. From an aesthetic point of view, the movie is to be visually appreciated for its pleasant settings, its refined costumes and in general for a deep care for precious details.

Plot Summary
The rags-to-riches story of Chinese ballet dancer Li Cunxin who, at age 11, was chosen to train at Madam Mao's Beijing Dance Academy and later went on to become one of the world's greatest dancers. A drama based on the autobiography by Li Cunxin. At the age of 11, Li was plucked from a poor Chinese village by Madame Mao's cultural delegates and taken to Beijing to studyballet . In 1979, during a cultural exchange to Texas, he fell in love with an American woman. Synopsis:
This is a film that's irritating and rewarding in equal measure. The first half is fascinating though it is unshaded China bashing, like BALZAC & THE LITTLE SEAMSTRESS, which also puts Western culture against Asian oppression in simplistic terms. Clara Law's REINCARNATION OF GOLDEN LOTUS or FAREWELL CHINA are better, showing imperfect people twisted by the horrors of ideology run amok - more convincing, more involving. The new film's sensibility is of someone with a season ticket to theballet rather than an Asian heritage. However this is a film which will reach people who would never seek those out. It certainly has it's moments. The business of the secret Nureyev VHS is great and Chen sending the village officials on their way is worth a cheer. The Madam Mao figure demanding the gypsy-musicalballet be re-figured into a People's Opera is sharper on ballet than anything since the Herman Ross NIJINSKY and carries on through, with the Americans commenting that what they see is more like athletics. However the thing which should be the heart of the piece, the lead weighing up what he's believed all his life against what he finds in the US, is frustratingly reduced to a few mall bought consumables and a virginal blond. The film has it's strengths - MacLachlan's performance, the montages, the dream of an execution at dawn are stand outs, some of the ballet material is striking but the big finale with the suspiciously brief performance, followed with the on-stage reunion with the family, again lacks all the culture shock material thatthe film could have pivoted on and that Asian films that deal with the subject foreground.
Mao's Last Dancer English film Review :
The movie, Mao's Last Dancer, will be first premiered at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival between September 10th and 14th of 2009 as a Special Presentation film. It will then be followed with four gala premiers in Australia to benefitthe Australian Ballet and the Bionic Ear Institute, which are the two non-profit organizations that Li supports and is involved with. The premier dates are: Sydney on September 21st, Melbourne on the 23rd, Adelaide on the 24th and Brisbane on the 25th. We would like to share with you that Li has screened the film twice now, and he thought that it’s a very good film. Li is very happy with how it portrayed his life. Bruce Beresford has done wonders bringing his story to the screen. The entire cast of actors and dancers are wonderful. And Li also liked the music very much.
In Australia, Village Roadshow, Hoyts, as well as other independent cinemas such as Palace and Dendy, will exhibit the film. The official release in Australia and New Zealand is Oct 1st. Jaganmohini movie is a remake of yesteryear hit of the same title directed by Vittalacharya. In this movie Namitha played a role of a girl who gathers pearls and falls in love with the prince (Raja). But Raja's family does not accept her and she is killed. Later she comes back as a ghost to stop his marriage to another princess.

Cinematographer - director N K Vishwanathan, who wields megaphone for 'Jaganmohini' needs no introduction. A skilled technician, he is the man credited with bringing in a lot of visual effects and technical nuances to filmmaking. A close associate of veteran director Rama Narayanan, Vishwanathan says, "When we decided to remake Jaganmohini, Namitha was the name that popped up in our mind immediately. She combines glamour with performance. She is the USP of the film." Namitha plays the role enacted by Jeyamalini in the original directed by Vittalacharya, while the rest of the cast includes Nila and Tollywood actor Raja. Produced by H Murali, the shooting for the movie is complete and it is all set for a Deepavali release. Jaganmohini 2009 is a remake of the same titled old flick of veteran Vittalacharya. The movie also featuring a wicked prince from a nearby state Riyas Khan his father Bala Singh and Vadivelu(brother of Namitha). The script has more availability to attract all the audiences but with the chopped screenplay and the lacked visual effects the movie looks normal. There are certain areas the movies visual effects come good but as far as these types of movie the visual effects plays a vital role in the entire movie but missing.
