Bleeding Cool reports that Marvel Studios is looking to shoot their huge superhero ensemble The Avengers with a relatively low budget. Unnamed insiders (that term alone moves this story into rumor territory) claim that Marvel is demanding the movie be completed for around $139,000,000, the same amount Sony spent in producing their first installment of Sam Raimi's 2002 Spider-Man, and much lower than what was spent on producing Iron Man 2.

It's being reported that some people have walked off the set, while others are holding tight with the hope that once the production runs out of money, Marvel Studios and their investors will come through with the extra cash needed to finish this huge undertaking; a project which combines characters from Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and The Incredible Hulk. The staff changes needed to cover the walkout has delayed the pre-production process by weeks. Maybe even months.

It is unclear how this will affect the actual production of the movie, which is scheduled to begin shooting late next year, or how the SFX will be affected. There is no official word on this matter from Marvel Studios or Disney Studios, who recently paid a hefty sum to be able to distribute this Marvel Comics adaptation. If a serious delay does occur because of financial troubles, the studio will surely not be the first to admit it.
