Filmmakers don't blame critics for the failure of their films for nothing – they have a reason. Of course, there are films that do well in spite of being bashed by the critics because of factors like star power, good content and good word of mouth but their opinion determines the fate of a film to a large extent. So, the makers of Yeh Saali Zindagi makers have a good reason to be happy as the film has got rave reviews from all quarters.
Popular critic Taran Adarsh is all praise for the film. "Yeh Saali Zindagi is a striking example of new age cinema. A daring film with a brand new approach, it's impulsive and engaging with skilful direction and power-packed performances as its strong points. This is one more solid attempt that takes the graph of Hindi cinema to a greater level," He wrote. "Sudhir Mishra is back in form. You need a strong belly to stomach this one!" he added.
Nikhat Kazmi thinks that one finds Yeh Saali Zindagi difficult to understand but is a good film. "It does sound a bit confusing but if you're alert and attentive, you're going to love this merry-go-round. Specially since the ensemble cast breathes fire and passion in their performances," she wrote. "Dark, devious and different, Yeh Saali Zindagi is brain-and-brawn drama. Wish the Censor hadn't beeped so much," she added.
Anupama Chopra describes the film as ‘most-twisted film'. "Yeh Saali Zindagi is the most twisted love story you'll see this year. There are so many characters, sub- plots, voice-overs, flash-backs, intrigues and counter-intrigues that you will need a master-guide to keep it straight. It is much too long, indulgent and exhausting but if you're willing to work with it, there is considerable fun to be had," she wrote. "Yeh Saali Zindagi doesn't hit all the high marks it sets for itself but it provides enough crackle to keep you entertained. Check it out," she added.
However, Blessy Chettiar is a bit critical about the film. She is of the opinion that one needs patience to watch it though a good one. "Yeh Saali Zindagi has romance at its core, and a lot of thrill is thrown in, too, taking the audience from the streets of Delhi to its outskirts in Haryana to Rajasthan and, finally, to a gripping climax at Mumbai's Bhaucha Dhakka (Ferry Wharf)," she wrote. She went on to say that the switching of scenes from one city to another confuses the viewers.
Yeh Saali Zindagi is a romantic thriller featuring Irrfan Khan, Arunoday Singh, Chitrangada Singh and Aditi Rao Hydari in the lead roles. It tells the story of two persons who go all out to win the hearts of the women they love. It tells how far one has to go to win one's love.
