London (ANI): Historical drama The King's Speech won the top accolade at the Directors Guild of America Awards, with director Tom Hooper winning the Outstanding Directorial Achievement award. Hooper, 38, paid tribute to his mother, who had drawn his attention to the story after she attended a reading of the tale.
"She came home and she rang me up and she said, 'I think I found your next movie'," the BBC quoted him as saying. "The moral of the story is, listen to your mother," he stated.
The film, which tells the tale of how King George VI overcame his stammer, has also been nominated for 12 Academy Awards.
