German director Oliver Hirschbiegel has signed on to direct the thriller The Dark Side of the Moon, based on Swiss author Martin Suter's bestselling novel.

According to Variety, the film is based on a screenplay by David Marconi (Live Free or Die Hard).

The novel centers on a successful attorney whose life is turned upside down after a mind-opening mushroom trip.

Production is slated to begin in spring in Switzerland, Germany and France.
