New Delhi, Jan 21: Refusing to accept the money offered to them by Hockey India (HI), the women's hockey team said that it will continue its protest against the non-payment of dues.
Reacting quickly to the revolt launched by the national women's team, HI decided to give an amount of Rs 50,000 to each member of the team on Thursday, Jan 21.
Besides this, the sports' governing body has promised to later release an additional amount of Rs 50,000 to each player.
Announcing this decision, HI interim president Vidya Stokes, said that that the national body has also requested the government to give each player Rs one lakh for their silver medal winning performance in last year's Asia Cup in Bangkok and gold in the inaugural Champions Challenge I in Kazan, Russia.
However, the players say that the money offered to them is too little as they were promised Rs 50,000 for every tournament they participated in and the amount offered does not cover incentives.
After the men's team got their incentive cheques following a massive coup launched by them, the women's team decided to launch a silent protest over non-payment by sporting black arm-bands in practise at the ongoing national camp in Bhopal, to signify their protest.
